Hi all, I recently upgraded my PC's RAM, CPU and MOBO. However, upon reconnecting all the wiring, and plugging it in, a white light is shown on my MSI B550m Mobo. It is labelled "CPU". However, the CPU was unboxed today, and no pins are bent or missing. I then tried it with another CPU, and it was the same. My GPU and RAM isn't the issue because i switched those out too. The Mobo is new too, so Im perplexed. Any Ideas at to what's causing the light?
#PC doesn't work. Help Please!!!

White usualy means its posted or doing ram check at least on asus boards. Weird tho
I had issue when I bought completely new parts new mobo all new put it in together properly and finded out that the motherboard is dead frrom the start
Fans spinning no sign of posting nothing means the Motherboard is dead probably.
Have you tried to swap out monitor?
Disconnect GPU and plugging your monitor into motherboard
Running motherboard without RAM.
Than with 1 stick plugged in only.
Than with all but CPU in it it should display no CPU found that means the motherboard is ok
If nothing at all even after trouble shooting the basics and swapping parts and all doesnt work,
Might be a power supply or Motherboard failiure.
i have tried plugging it in directly to my Mobo, but that produces no results either.
Unfortunately. I had the same issue and could only return my motherboard to the seller and ask for a new one.
and it was working after that
if you are not able to get into bios, the motherboard is bricked by some reason
Cuz usualy it can diagnose itself like no RAM detected. Or no CPU or no Boot drive or no input
if absolutely nothing, its most likely dead
and in fact after returning they figured out it was a factory defect and I got a full refund
it happened on msi board
Also I hope the picture of your ram is just a try out and not for reals
This is the correct way to install it xD
But assuming all your other components are fine. It sometimes happens with motherboards. You will not be the first or the last one its a pretty complex sothering masterpiece. Something can go wrong sometimes
Does the light say CPU tho
Cuz all I can find on the internet regarding this is that the GPU is not detected
or CPU has bent pins
which you said is not a case
Try unplugging your gpu for a sec and flash the BIOS if you have Flash bios button somewhere in the back or on the motherboard
than restart, reseat it and try again
Seems right. Idk, check this post if you havent before refunding
but I guess if nothing works can be fault at motherboard, not detecting stuff and reporting faulty things. also make sure thru PC part picker if the components you are using are compatible with your motherboard
Interesting ...
Problem is when motherboard fails its so hard to detect what is wrong, if the part is new just returning it for a new one is the best you can do.
and try again.
maybe the CPU socket is damaged or faulty who knows
Whats your powers supply
GPU and CPU
I'm unsure
I have a ryzen 5 5600
And nvidia rtx 2060
Usualy says on the side of the powersupply what number is there
Big number
W
like 550W or 800W or what
cuz minimum what you need for that hungry AMD CPU is 650-1000W
with the GPU needing 550W minimum spec. Going mid range 800W power supply is good enough with 80 PLUS Gold efficiency
If you underpower your system this can be a result. Not detecting CPU or GPU
as its not getting enough power
than it can only be motherboard at this point if its not a power issue
and you are sure you tested all you could by guides
no mobo no gone
all turns on as per ur video
don't misguide
its only true of no components posting
his cpu socket is prolly damaged
the mobo is running rgb lights up
and fans too working as per his video
whats ur psu power?
and if not psu its forshure bent pins in the socket
He already checked and posted picture of cpu, it looks fine. Leaves me with cpu socket. I actualy had a dead motherboard with all lights and fans running
Power went thru but it was basicaly a brick
Still could be the psu but he didnt provided W so idk might be underpowered but we dont know
ok
ah
he needs to send a pic of psu and cpu socket
he died oof
Yea
And i returned my motherboard cuz it was fresh new as in his case they gave another one straight away and It worked fine later I received email that there was an issue from factory
It can happen that even maybe the cpu socket is just bad
Especialy on cheaper models
What is this connector for? Looks not correct on the pic 1! You have tested the motherboard in pic 2 without CPU? Why have you powered on the thing without CPU? Miss wiring can destroy something. Have you powered of the system while inserting the CPU?
I would try to disconnect everything you don't need for start from the motherboard for a test.
Can you send a pic of your full motherboard deployment and we can mark the things you should disconnect for a test.
At the end only MOBO, CPU and CPU Cooler, RAM and Power Button should be connected.
And the PSU to the MOBO I forgot.
Oh, good eye, I havent even noticed that, thats cpu fan header seems like, but can you even missplace that 👀
But on the video seems correctly placed
Could think of another way how not to make cpu work.
Plugging in PCI power cable into CPU on the motherboard
Can u even do that never tried, you can force it thats for sure
does the motherboard support 5xxx series out of the box? Might just need a BIOS update
I cannot say which type of connector that is. It is not PCI power and I think it is not a FAN connector. If it shorted something, the motherboard is gone.
yeah, was wondering why noone mentioned that ^^
that should be a pump header on those msi b550 boards
There is also a screw missing there, stop being lazy, use all the motherboard screws
Not only the screw is missing. Also it misses standoffs!!! Fix your mounting!!! Disconnect the power supply while working on it!!! And hope that the motherboard is not gone!!!
Omg ok I guess we found culprit
I still vote BIOS update, according to the compatibility list 5xxx was added later
but yeah, fix those standoffs
BIOS update after the MOBO is mounted correctly 👍
those were old photos!
hahaha
yes mobo is properly screwed in and everything plugged in fine
however just tried the bios flashback method which i think is the problem
but...... the sequence is not begining when i press the button
Which exact model board is that?
the msi pro vdh wifi b550m
so you followed the steps for it?
yepp
downlaoded the file
renamed it
plugged it in
presed the button
nothing.
PC was turned off when you pressed the button?
power needs to be plugged in but system should be off, motherboard should turn on what it needs for flashback
also press and hold the button until it starts flashing
oh yeah
its working now
thanks man
it flashed for a bit then everything just turned on
is that normal
flashed for like 2 secs
once it is finished it restarts the motherboard once
also the USB stick should be formatted as FAT32
But
When I did it
The red light never turned off. (Waited for over 10 mins)
My understanding is that it will turn off the light, then start all necessary components
@blazing vale
Any idea
ok I learned new things.
ok
so
the light signalling the flashback bios did not turn off
its just staying on, which i believe means it isnt completed
@atomic hornet any ideas
Did you try with no storage devices attached?
I once had a Samsung SSD that made my PC not boot if its attached.
From other flashbacks it should just be continous on. Then its finished. that is usually around 5-6 minutes.
FIXED LADS
mobo was fucked
got a new one
better than eve
ever
thanks everyone appreciate you loads
Thought so, glad we helped enjoy your new PC man 🙂
