Hi All,
Forgive me for being somewhat in the dark on this, but last night I found out by 'Smart Access Memory' and it's potential to increase potential in performance. I updated my bios on my motherboard (Asus TUF x470-Plus Gaming) to version 5809.
I did this via BIOS itself and using the Ez-Flash feature via the internet. I assume it updates to 5809 and not the most recent BIOS because 5809 was when they introduced support for some newer CPUs? Anyway, after doing so, I enabled Smart Access Memory - only to realise that there's a few further steps to take before actually getting it to work on my Mobo and GPU combo.
The steps are:
-
update my Mobo BIOS again to the most recent version, i believe Nvidia's site says that my particular Mobo needs to be updated to version 5833 - which is when ASUS introduced resiable BAR compatibility for RTX30 series cards (I have a 3080 Asus ROG Strix 10GB)
-
update my vBIOS of my GPU via the firmware update tool provided by Nvidia.
My question is... am i potentially risking bricking both products for the sake of no real gain? I've seen some places claim up to 10% performance increase.. but others saying its minimal. I must admit, updating bios sends shivers down my spine due to a time in 2005 or so when I bricked a board via updating them, so I'm quite anxious - but I also understand how much easier it is these days than it was then. Unfortunately since updating to 5809 on my Mobo, the Ez-flash option doesn't have an 'internet' option anymore, so i would need to USB-Device flash them. - which obviously adds +10 onto anxiety.
Any input is appreciated, if I am completely wasting my time for minimal gain - just give it to me straight 😄
Thanks alot,
Oli
