#How to port forward

Hello, I'm trying to portforward as UPnP is not working with this application. The port is 30000. On my network, I have both modem and router, the router is setup as a wifi router and not an accesspoint. Please let me know how I can do this.

#

The application using the port is allowed both public and private in the firewall. the port in question is allowed in inbound rules.

#

Quick question, the router app is asking me for service type for my port forwarding, I have it set to HTTP right now, is that fine?

It would help to know what you are trying to expose?
Are you behind CGNAT for example? Because then port forwarding does nothing for you.
If you have a port opened and you need to check if it's actually reachable try canyouseeme.org

I don't know what CGNAT is

#

Nvm I googled it

#

How do I find out if I am behind a CGNAT

#

Do I just call my isp?

#

@lapis ravine

#

I don't know what this means

  1. oh in your router set your PC as a static IP .
  2. in your router set the port forward 30000 to your static ip
plush jetty
#

Alright

clear beacon
#

save configuration and restart the router (power cycle)

plush jetty
#

The router or the pc

#

Aight

clear beacon
#

standard routers come with a firewall

clear beacon
#

pic?

plush jetty
#

Or is this something else?

clear beacon
#

screenshot

plush jetty
clear beacon
#

should be correct

plush jetty
#

Ok

#

@clear beacon

clear beacon
#

this would assign your PC when it connects to the same IP everytime you boot up

plush jetty
#

restart the router?

clear beacon
#

call the servicename FoundryVTT or a recognizeable name

plush jetty
#

Like turn all of them off and on?

clear beacon
#

" All of them off? " whats that?

#

be specific

plush jetty
#

router restart

clear beacon
#

just power cycle the router after

plush jetty
#

what's a powercycle

clear beacon
#

oh plug power out of the router

plush jetty
#

Aight

clear beacon
#

and reconnect it after 30 seconds

#

After this , when you are back start the foundry service.

#

and in the end, you could reach it using your external ip + Port so like SomeIP:30000

plush jetty
clear beacon
#

well without the foundry service being started

#

it wont show

plush jetty
#

Ok

clear beacon
#

well did you try to connect to external port?

plush jetty
#

Yes

clear beacon
#

is the service running?

#

is your local port correct?

plush jetty
#

Yes

#

website saying not working either

plush jetty
clear beacon
#

The computer which is running should be running on the local IP

plush jetty
#

Yeah

clear beacon
#

is your pc currently having the same IP? as itr should be?

#

like 192.168.68.109?

plush jetty
#

I don't know how to check so here's ipconfig

clear beacon
#

that seems correct

#

also did you try to run foundry vtt with just the internal IP? did that work?

#

and connect to it using the internal IP?

plush jetty
#

What do you mean

clear beacon
#

(check if Foundry is UP )

plush jetty
#

just go to this site?

clear beacon
#

no

plush jetty
clear beacon
#

as in go to your local IP and connect using the local IP to foundry

#

the 192.168.68.109:30000 IP

#

does that work?

#

if that works , we know Foundry is running

plush jetty
#

Yup

#

it works

#

It brings me to the session screen

clear beacon
#

Great, now we just need to make sure the port forwarding is working.

#

is the port forwarding Rule active?

plush jetty
#

It says yes

clear beacon
#

well try disabling windows firewall

#

just for testing purposes

plush jetty
#

Alright

clear beacon
#

and retry the test to see if the port is open

plush jetty
#

Didn'twork

clear beacon
#

restart PC?

plush jetty
#

Ok

clear beacon
#

Trying to eliminate most of the possibilities, since I tried this before on a factorio server also required port forwarding. sofar you are doing all things correctly. It takes some time before port forwarding becomes effective. ( Router being weird)

#

sometimes it take sometime for Port forwarding to be effective

#

I usually try to add port triggering as well on the same port

#

like port triggering on port 30000 if you can find it.

#

(router part)

plush jetty
#

Didn't owrk

clear beacon
#

add port triggering on the router as well

#

on port 30000

#

should be a simple setting

plush jetty
#

Welp

clear beacon
#

Welp?

plush jetty
#

Asked someone else about this

#

He's saying I am behond the uhh

#

CGNAT

#

So I have to call my isp to have them enable portforwarding now

clear beacon
#

well I would first try port triggering

#

since its something you can do

#

after that if it doessnt work you can always call your ISP

plush jetty
#

Didn't work

clear beacon
#

well restart router after

#

"Carrier-grade NAT usually prevents the ISP customers from using port forwarding, because the network address translation (NAT) is usually implemented by mapping ports of the NAT devices in the network to other ports in the external interface."

Me: " Really? , ISP use this?"

plush jetty
#

Dunno

#

But meh

#

WAiting on my router to restart now

#

Calling my ISP is gonna be pain

#

Didn't work

#

welp

clear beacon
#

Ok , so your behind CGNAT

#

Good luck calling ISP.

#

I did everything that should work to activate a port forwarding

plush jetty
#

Yeah

#

Thanks for your help

#

But meh

clear beacon
#

yeah understandable

plush jetty
#

I doubt they'll accept this request considering I live in a fairly urban area

clear beacon
#

good luck making that Service desk employee understand

plush jetty
#

Kek

clear beacon
#

Usually they are students

#

with basic knowledge

plush jetty
#

seriously?

clear beacon
#

🤷‍♂️ thats why I dont like calling ISP's

#

Well since you are a customer, they should help you with your request

#

Otherwise its time to transfer to another ISP

plush jetty
#

Probably

#

And they are closed

#

they open monday

#

Bruh

clear beacon
#

well we used table top simulator before

#

let me connect you as friend on discord

#

Ill add you to another discord with allot of Table top people

#

they might have alternatives, allot of GM's are on there.

#

and games you could join if you want to

plush jetty
#

Nah

#

I'm GM'ing a game

clear beacon
#

Great, they can help you with tips as well 😄

#

allot of book creators are on there aswell

plush jetty
#

All my players probably can't afford the 20 dollars for tabletop sim

#

I got foundry because uhh

#

It meant only I had to buy it

#

and I'm basically paying for 10 months roll 20, for an account I can use for years

clear beacon
#

That is fine, but they know the tools more as I do and can recommend you decent tools

plush jetty
#

Huh

clear beacon
#

for table top games as well 🙂

plush jetty
#

Well, thanks

clear beacon
#

They also play multiplayer games online as well , for table top games

#

and it doessnt hurt to look around and ask 🤷‍♂️

#

worst case you got a free tool which everybody can join in on.
