#PC wont POST after updating 3090 driver

Hi, I have bought a (used) 3090 TUF Gaming, the first time after installing it it worked without problems, although the fans were spinning really fast. GPU-Z told me they were spinning at 3000 RPM while still at 0%, still everything got recognized and it worked (did not test high load).

After a minute or so GeForce Experience asked me If I wanted to update my nvidia Driver (had a 1070 before the 3090 installed and didnt use DDU yet). I pressed yes and after an attempted restart the PC was stuck in POST and EZ led showed VGA.

So I put my 1070 back in and everything works without problems. tried DDU and CMOS reset but still cant boot anymore with my 3090.

Specs:
Corsair RM750 80 Plus Gold
2x8 Gig of Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz
msi B550 Gaming Plus
AMD 3700x

I know the PSU is on the weaker side, and I may also fucked up because im only using a Pigtail Cable from the PSU (currently cant access my other cables).

just want to know if I have any chance fixing the GPU or If i have probably fried it?

Update your motherboard BIOS. Also, if you can, boot with BOTH cards installed and update the VBIOS of the 3090

Ive tried booting with an 1050 Ti from my plex server (because it doesnt require any Power from the PSU) and the 3090 and its still stuck at the same step.
1050 ti alone works flawlessly.
looking up If I can update my bios right now

Boot with the 1050ti in the top slot.

also tried that allready, still not working

Okay. Manually set your PCIe lane speed to 3.0 and try again.

real granite
#

allright, goigt to reboot now and checking that

Maybe you don't have enough wattage you are using 750 watts maybe it's time to upgrade the psu and are you using two or three separate pcie cables?

modest moss
#

Do you have ALL of the power plugs on the GPU populated?

real granite
#

Yeah the card only has 2 power plugs, but as I said I am using a pigtail/y-splitter cable

modest moss
#

Y splitter.... show

You need to use more than one pcie cable

modest moss
#

Show the Y splitter now

Sorano chill

modest moss

If he's using an 8-pin to dual 6-pin the card won't boot

#

Oh. Just using a SINGLE GPU cable.

#

Yeah, no that's not going to fly at all.

wise slate
#

Yeah no you need two

modest moss
#

The GPU can sense that you are using a single cable.

real granite
#

Have I damaged my gpu already?

wise slate
#

No

modest moss
#

No. The GPU is just refusing to initialize.

#

It's detecting a short on the #7 and 8 pins on both connectors so it is refusing to initialize.

#

Those are sense pins on the PCIe 8-pin connectors.

real granite
#

So that it actually did start the first time was a failure?

modest moss
#

Probably because the driver was not loaded and the GPU not under load.

real granite
#

Alright

#

Well thanks, that's a relief

#

Seems like I will have to visit my mom then and have to get the cable from the basement

#

Thank you guys!

Because they are meant to simplify runs between multiple devices that won't draw the full power load.

#

So, for example, between a GPU and a capture card or powered sound card.

real granite
#

ohhh I see, thank you!

wise slate
#

You can use pigtails on lower end cards like a 3060ti since it doesn't need as much power as a 3090 for example if it has a 8 and 6 pin you can do that no problem.

So I came back today and it seems like I still have the same problem with 2 different cables ☹️
