So i have a msi b450 tomahawk max board and i have just upgraded my graphics card to rtx 3060. I have been having some issues since upgrading. After looking at the spec sheet for both the graphic card and my motherboard I can see that my motherboard's main pcie slot is gen 3 and the graphics card pcie requirement is gen 4. Is there anyway I can get the card to work through a bios update or a driver update or do I just need to send the card back? Can someone please help.

You don't need to worry about pcie 3.0 vs pcie 4.0 until you get to the higher end cards
It will run fine on pcie 3.0
Only reason I'm asking is whenever I try to open a game. My pc crashes. Do I need to enable something in my bios to stop this? Is the card trying to use my slot as gen 4? I'm at a complete loss.
I have a b450 tomahawk and am using a 3060ti and have had no issues is your bios updated to the latest?
I'm not sure. Can I update my bios without a flash driver? I vaguely remember something about the b450 tomahawk max having some sort of feature where you don't need a flash drive?
You need a flash drive you don't need a cpu for biosflashback
Ah right. I'll have to try and find my USB drive then.
I just went into my bios and enabled the pcie slot 1 to gen 3 instead of auto and I'm still getting the same issue.
What issue specifically are you getting?
Whenever I try to open games like warzone and fortnite, the game never gets back the load screen. My screens go completely black, freezes for a few seconds and then I get an error code and a bug report pop up (based on the game)
Funnily enough tho, WoW seems to work fine.
I've stress tested the gpu in furmark and benched it in heaven and there's no issues there at all.
I've even done a fresh instal of Windows and still the same issue.
When i put in my old gtx 1060, my games work fine.
Can do this but without rgb and just plain light to have better visibility 🙂
Pcie power doesn't look like it's properly seated in the port
I think it is because I'm getting pictures on my monitors just fine.
