Hey, so i just bought a 4090 over my 3080 ti that performed very well with my Ryzen 9 3900x and my 64gb 3600mhz ddr4 ram at 1440p, also have 1000w PSU incase thats needed. Basically my problem is the extreme underperformance in most games that have anything to do with my cpu, its not like my cpu is getting bottlenecked either cuz its sits around 40-60% usage while my 4090 is slugging at 20-40% usually, youd think this is just an upgrade cpu/ram situation but i recently tried Minecraft with this build nad got 140 FPS on decent settings!!! (for reference i got 600-1000 with my 3080 ti). Ive looked at tons of reddit forums and cant find a single answer for my gpu not using any of its power on lower quality/high performance games. Please help!

Ive tested this build with cyberpunk and itll get pretty good performance (80 avg fps) at max settings max RT no dlss but both my gpu and cpu will just sit around 30-50% usage

Your biggest bottleneck is going to be that 3900X. If you want to fully leverage that GPU, you will need a RE-BAR supporting CPU (5000 series), at least a 4K display, and raytracing.

Your CPU is rated for PCIe Gen 3 and the CPU is a threaded IO bottleneck.

i seem to get blazing fast fps on games like portal rtx and spiderman but any low end game puts my gpu down to anything below 20% usage

got this thing for animation cuz i work with rappers alot and need this kinda power for bigger projects

but this performance has been very dissapointing and almost worse than my last card

anything strictly reliant on my gpu will be as fast as ever, anything else plays like a gtx 1060

Yeah, you are probably looking at a PCIe bandwidth issue. Also it's been revealed that December and November Patch Tuesdays really dinged the Ryzen CPUs very hard so that could be affecting it as well.

It shouldn't be slower than your old card though, so something weird is going on there.

But obviously, it's also choking on the pcie 3.0 bandwidth.

Maybe try display driver uninstaller @gleaming gyro reboot and reinstall

Download DDU from Guru3d and download the latest driver for your GPU from Nvidia, AMD, or Intel from their respective download pages. Do not start DDU yet. Start Windows into Safe mode. To boot into safe mode, click on the start menu, click the power icon, hold shift and keep holding it, and then click restart. You should arrive at a blue screen with multiple options. Click on "Troubleshoot," "Advanced Options," "Startup Settings," and click on "Restart." Once you have rebooted into safe mode, run DDU and click on clean and restart. Install driver once windows boots normally. Yes you should do it in safe mode

DDU usually works fine even when you don't do it in safemode though.
