#INTERNET RELATED PROBLEM

you're plugged into ethernet thorugh an extender or straight into the router

gritty rampart
#

Did you change anything and then it went bad, or was it working fine and then it went bad without you doing anything?

If you didnt change anything, plug to another port on your router. If you got switches inbetween the pc and the router, Either swap those out or plug to different ports on them. Do those things one by one so you know where the problem might be. If you have another pc or a laptop you can plug the cable into, try that too.
Wifi doesnt have anything to do with it if you're using a cable, so you can rule that out.

It went bad overtime

timber wraith
# dense glen extender

Bypass the extender and hardwire directly into the modem/router combo potato from your ISP, even just temporarily.

#

This will prove out whether it's an issue with the signal coming from your ISP, or if it's WiFi related within the home.

dense glen
#

too high tech words

timber wraith
#

Plug your PC into the modem/router from your ISP directly using an ethernet cable. See how speeds are then.

gritty rampart
#

So then you're not plugged through ethernet, you're plugged into a wifi extender with a lan cable. Aka, you're using wifi.

calm leaf
#

they are saying that you should run an ethernet cable through your wall to your router

timber wraith
#

Move the PC temporarily. You're gonna have to put some effort into testing until you discover where the "problem" exists.

gritty rampart
#

Plug a cable directly into the modem, without using the extenders, and see what happens

dense glen
calm leaf
#

tbh just use wifi at that point lmfao

dense glen
#

my internet will get 50mbps if I move closer to the router

#

even with wifi

#

its slover

#

slower

#

I want my promised 1200mbps

#

😭

gritty rampart
#

Hence plug it in directly and see what happens. Directly to the router, not to an extender

gritty rampart
#

So?

#

Use a longer cable, or move the pc

dense glen
#

you want me to run a 100ft ethernet cable through my house?

gritty rampart
#

You want help, you'll have to do some diagnostic steps

timber wraith
# dense glen I want my promised 1200mbps

I've never seen an ISP promise speeds. They're almost always advertised as "up to" X speed because no ISP can guarantee your home's layout allows good WiFi connectivity, nor can they guarantee speeds if the customer is using an iPad 2 or laptop from 2012, for instance.

dense glen
#

I'm not just gonna run a wire through my ac vent

#

lmao

dense glen
#

but

#

you should at least

#

get

#

500 mbps

#

speeds

#

why is my mom paying 115 for wifi monthly

#

for shitty wifi

timber wraith
dense glen
#

its probably just this shitty xfinty router

#

ill talk it out with my mom

#

to get a netgear router

gritty rampart
#

Well, then good luck solving this. Most likely one of your extenders died, there's interference, you configured something wrong or a host of other issues that might be going on. If we dont know your router is ok, by you testing it, by plugging directly to it, we cannot help you. Simple as that

dense glen
gritty rampart
#

And sidenote, you wont get 1200mbps through several extenders. Prolly not 500mbps either

dense glen
#

Look

#

#

My xbox download speed was at 300mbps

gritty rampart
#

Moving closer does not equal plugging a cable directly to the router to see where the problem is...

timber wraith
# dense glen its probably just this shitty xfinty router

I do IT consulting for a company that regularly uses Comcast X1 platform hardware. While this can be true if the modem is dealing with a botched firmware update or otherwise just needs a reboot, in my experience the XB6/7/8 modems are all pretty reliably decent.

dense glen
gritty rampart
#

That also doesnt matter. One time is enough

dense glen
#

10 times throughout time

timber wraith
#

Test over hardwired connection directly to the modem to prove whether this is a WiFi or wired related problem. That's the first step. Once you know where the problem exists, then further steps can be taken.

dense glen
#

not continous ofc

gritty rampart
#

If the first time didnt fix it, doing it again a week later wont either

dense glen
#

It's not supposed to be the in the basement

#

but even though

#

before

#

it was working good

#

wifi is shitty now

gritty rampart
#

Putting the problem with someone else wont solve it either

#

Try a cable

dense glen
#

It's probably the shitty internet pole outside they haven't fixed yet

gritty rampart
#

...

dense glen
#

thank you for the information

#

I hope your not the 30yr old in your pfp

#

you look amazing in your 30s

#

ngl

gritty rampart
#

Me? Lol im 39

dense glen
#

damn

#

you aging slow

#

😭

gritty rampart
#

I'm Dutch, air is healthy here xD

dense glen
#

ahh

#

come to america

#

we will fix that for you

gritty rampart
#

I'll pass on that, tyvm

dense glen
#

lol

#

thanks for the help

#

imma gonna curse the living out of xfinty

#

paying for top tier internet

#

and getting worst speeds

gritty rampart
#

No prob. But really, try to plug directly to the router, use a laptop or whatever. If your speed is fine then, you could try other things like switching channels on the extenders and a host of other things.

#

If it isnt, trying all other things possible, wont do anything at all

dense glen
#

yes

#

my dumbass

#

is going to run a ethernet cable through my house

#

I mean

#

I already have that happening in my house with the cameras outside of my house

gritty rampart
#

And if there's a "broken internet pole" outside, well, thatll need to be adressed first. The cable is just for testing btw, 5 minutes will tell you what you need to know

dense glen
#

ok

gritty rampart
#

If you plug it and it then suddenly works fine, well then you know the problem isnt the router, and as such must be with one of the extenders

dense glen
#

I'm going to go on my camera's box thing

gritty rampart
#

Switch?

dense glen
#

uhh

#

no

#

like

#

the operating system

#

the pc for it or whatever

#

and there is a internet speed test

#

or somethng on it

#

imma check it out

#

since its plugged through ethiernet

#

ethernet*

gritty rampart
#

You could try that, but those things hardly are a good reference imo. That said, if its much faster than your wifi and it is plugged directly to the router, atleast you'd have some indication. I'd still advise you to try connecting the pc directly though

dense glen
#

ok

#

thank you for helping someone 3x younger than you

gritty rampart
#

Most the "camera box thingies" have a 100mbit port

dense glen
#

my brain is still configuring these shitty internet problems

gritty rampart
#

Just take your time, do things one by one

dense glen
#

ok

#

hope you age slowly continously through out your lfie

#

life

#

my guy looks like he is still in his early 30s

gritty rampart
#

4am here atm, so i'm going to lay my old ass in bed. I'm sure there's others that can help you along the way, once you can tell them you plugged direct and that didnt (or did) work :p

dense glen
#

hope you pull slechteriken

gritty rampart
#

Lol

#

Good luck, and good night

dense glen
#

did I translate that right

#

I mean baddies

#

meant*

gritty rampart
#

Not really, but its close enough

dense glen
#

ok

#

good night

#

make sure monsters under your bed dont come for you

#

and give you a heart attack

gritty rampart
#

Maybe i am the monster and theyre scared of me....
