pc crash, blank screen, only cpu fan stops | Linus Tech Tips | Page 1

hello, would love some input about this

I have amd 2700x, 1660 super pc that used to work just fine for the longest time, but now crashes less than 1 minute after booting into windows

the odd part is that only the cpu fan stops, cpu fan rgb still working, gpu still spinning, the screen goes completely blank and you have to cut power to even turn it off

i don't have access to spare parts, only tried changing the hard drive

are there any other troubleshooting tips i can do? is it possible to tell which part is likely screwed up with these symptoms?

sadly not advanced enough to know how to check that. can you point me to something should look up? i can't really boot into windows

have you tried booting into safemode?

also did you make any changes to the system before this happened?

trying to get into safemode now. the parts did not change

yeah so as soon as i got into recovery screen it still crashed, but now cpu fan is blowing full blast

i'll have to reveal something kinda shameful, but i was using pc's spare time to run nicehash, it was always on, didn't really change anything, the month of the crash i actually lowered the mining performance and didn't even realised when it crashed.

i assume some part of my pc is cooked, but would love to identify which

right now i'm letting it fully cool down to try booting it long enough to turn on task manager and see the temps

Well there you go , one of the components just died out, could be ram related on your video card.
Usually first part to give out since its used extensively

Try to add another GPU and try to see if everything is normal.

i kinda hoped that cpu fan stopping was an indicator that it's the cpu, but now i'll have to figure out how to get some other pc parts
