send a picture of the cable

#

and yes try a bios update

#

boards that have been shipped to you may have been in storage for months, meaning that theyre already on an older version of the BIOS that may contain some bugs

It is possible that the GTX 980 is not compatible with that board.

#

Remove the GPU and see if the error persists. You do have an iGPU on that LGA 1700 CPU, correct?

buoyant fern
#

still it couldnt hurt to try

verbal bough
#

Remove the GTX 980 and boot off the iGPU

#

Okay. Then your issue is the 980. You either need to flash the VBIOS on that card up or get a new one.

#

The issue could be PCIe speed detection errors. You may need to manually set the PCIe speed to 3.0 for that GPU slot.

#

Right

#

Flash the GPU VBIOS.

buoyant fern
#

flashing the gpu bios is much more difficult right?

#

nvm i guess you can just do it through software now?

#

i thought you had to get one of the thigns that clip onto the bios chip?

verbal bough
#

Given that card is almost 8 years old though, ehhhh I'd find something newer.

#

No you can use NVFlash
