I just upgraded my motherboard and cpu
In my pc but when I turn it on, my monitor looks all glitchy, it’s not a monitor issue and I don’t thinks it’s the gpu either. My motherboard has a little trouble shooting led next to BOOT but I’m not sure how to fix that. Also minor issues, my gpu is stuck in my motherboard at the clip. Thank you in advance if you can help.

My specs are

  • Ryzen 5 5800x cpu
  • ASUS rog strix B550-F gaming motherboard
  • ASUS rog strix rtx 3060 gpu
  • Corsair vengeance rgb ram
  • seagate barracuda 1 TB hard drive
  • Corsair 650 w psu

Have you tried plugging your display into the motherboard to see if you get a good output from your motherboard?

cedar vessel
#

Yes, when I plug it into my motherboard the monitor just says no signal and the light on the monitor turns red

atomic seal
#

weird

#

have you tried that with your GPU unplugged?

cedar vessel
#

Yeah, when I plugged the monitor into the gpu it will show the monitor brand and stuff perfectly fine then go to this glitchy screen

atomic seal
#

yeah I got that

#

but I asked if you tried taking out your graphics card and plug your display into your motherboard

#

that way you can identify which is responsible for the glitch

cedar vessel
#

I can’t get my graphics card out of the motherboard, the clip you push down to release it wont move

atomic seal
#

so it's stuck?

#

I'm not familiar with that motherboard but I know different motherboards just slide that clip instead pushing it

warm stone
atomic seal
#

Oh

warm stone
#

reseating the gpu may help, also checking with a different cable incase it's the cable itself

atomic seal
#

forgot about that

#

yeah it also could be that

#

otherwise it could be a damaged pin or bad slot(hopefully not)

#

or it could be a bad processor

#

there are many reasons that can happen

warm stone
#

a single bad vram could also cause that issue

cedar vessel
#

It’s not the pci-e cable

warm stone
warm stone
atomic seal
#

but it could

atomic seal
warm stone
#

if it was the cpu, you'd get no display at all

cedar vessel
#

The ram worked fine with my old motherboard

warm stone
atomic seal
#

anyway, if it really was only the display, it would be able to enter the OS without a problem

atomic seal
#

idk how a good graphics card could just randomly fail

#

but it could be possible

cedar vessel
#

Once I get back home I’ll try taking the gpu out and see if it’s dirty or something. If not I’ll try seeing if it’s the cpu or motherboard

warm stone
#

you'll need extra thermal paste if you take the cpu out

#

in regards to the boot led, it's relating to what storage you're using

atomic seal
cedar vessel
#

No, there’s a little led on my motherboard if there’s something wrong with my hardware, I hope the issue is just my SATA cable if it’s with storage, since I’ve never done a backup

atomic seal
#

oh

#

anyway

#

doesn't that led display anything?

warm stone
atomic seal
#

got it

#

not every motherboard got those but I guess his does

warm stone
#

nope, the cheaper more budget boards don't have anything for diagnostics, what he's got is a midrange rog strix mobo so a minor level of quick/easy diagnostics

atomic seal
#

I know

warm stone
#

bugs me that they have a 4 pin header on all mobo for speakers to replace the piezo speakers that used to be on all mobo's

atomic seal
#

they should really add diagnostics leds or something to the budget boards as well

atomic seal
#

it's like only rich people have the privilege to see why their pc isn't booting

warm stone
atomic seal
#

piezo speaker?

#

what is piezo

#

I've heard about system speaker but not piezo

#

but they were indeed a good thing

warm stone
atomic seal
#

you just got some beeps in a sequence, look up in the manual, and then that's your problem

warm stone
#

originally they was soldered to the mobo

atomic seal
#

wait, did they remove the speaker pin headers from new motherboards?

warm stone
#

nope

atomic seal
#

oh

warm stone
#

most mobo's it's combined down in with the front panel header

atomic seal
#

right

warm stone
atomic seal
#

but do new cases still have that speaker built in

#

cases*

#

I meant cases

#

not motherboards

warm stone
#

nope no modern case has it

atomic seal
#

sad

warm stone
#

it's not something that a case is required to have as it originally is part of the mobo

#

every pc i've built i keep adding the speaker to it

atomic seal
#

👍

#

do you mind if I ask you what your pfp is

#

looks creepy

frozen magnet
#

Pc not starting up whoa

warm stone
atomic seal
#

that

#

that made

#

that uhh

#

makes me have more questions

cedar vessel
#

What’s the monkeys name

atomic seal

asking the real questions

cedar vessel
#

This Information is vital for my pc

We’ll I think you need to change that

cedar vessel
#

Ok update, I got the gpu unplugged and I replaced the SATA cable. Now the light on my motherboard is DRAM, and the display isn’t turning on at all

#

Oh uh also now the power button isn’t working so now I can’t turn my pc off

#

Oh nevermind the power button works

warm stone
#

reseat the ram

frozen magnet
#

static pc whoa

cedar vessel
#

Ok I finally got it to work and I’m getting this screen, what do I do

warm stone
#

enter bios

#

you'll need to redo settings

cedar vessel
#

Ok I think I got my pc working now, I’m gonna get a new cpu fan because mine isn’t really working but other then that I’m good

#

Tysm for the help
