#I think my Power supply has died, after resetting breaker box my system is no longer responsive?

It was a older no named unit...
https://www.memoryc.com/16397-ocz-corexstream-500w-power-supply-uk-europe-version.html
I used it for about 7 years in two pcs no issues
It did not make a bang noise on its way out though just the house breaker box tripped out
Well some time has passed can you check if it’s still broken? Or turns on?
Somehow just expecting it was a heating issue / overdraw of power issue due to high gpu usage
Do you think i may have exceeded its limitations ?
Based on story it might be
Nope nothing at all happens
Alrighty how likely is it that it took out my other components with it ?
I have ordered the EVGA 600 watt bq unit is this a bad choice?
That’s a bad questions; better question is it a good choice? Keep questions positive 👍
It cost around 50 pounds in uk so hopefully aha
Money is kinda rough right now for a whole system replacement
Check your psu if it’s in here
Basically a psu tier list explaining good and bad cpu
Yeah always good to stay positive in these scenarios
I have saw some reviews of people saying the evga unit exploding or coming doa though based off amazon though
Well would not buy it then 🤔
Suprised you lasted that long with an unnamed psu
Yeah im tempted to open the unit up though to see what happened
But thats probably a stupid idea
The motherboard had surge protected printed on the box though
Yeah don’t open psu if you do not know what you are doing
As it might still be lethally charged.
There is a reason there is a@cage around it
I have opened it before to clean it out when it was working a couple months back
I of course discharged it with the power button
cleaning fan is one thing
Still after that more charge can remain
Yeah you may be right here no response at all from the system makes me think something fried inside the unit
However thats always followed by a bang or maybe im lucky and it silently passed away aha
I dont know though the EVGA unit has a 5 year warranty included with it
Do i atleast try it or send it back upon arrival is the question?
What do you mean just use the EVGA unit if you already ordered it
this thread is just a confirmation of your steps . If that’s all the money you had for it and it’s enough go for it .
Keep the receipt and make sure you know the guarantee
Alrighty i will do and yeah its the best i could do for this price range 50 pounds the others are also known to explode 😮
But idk amazon reviews are not always known to be trusted all the time i guess
All psu explodes because Amazon reviews say so. A fallacy argument , how can it be still sold?
Not all are exploding would be weird
I generally have limited knowledge on this area so cannot say but if i use this psu and it actually does kill my parts i wont be too happy
Even the RM 750 units from corsair have got exploding risk reviews...
I guess i risk it and stay positive though aha
Anyhow i appreciate your help and guidance on this matter 🙂
No problem time to do something else today 👍🏻to get your mind of it
Like cleaning the house
Always feels nice to have a clean house
Yeah i will focus on that aha 🙂
I guess ill update this thread if everything goes smooth sailing
There's a cheap fuse inside the psu that you can replace. Might wanna check if that triggered at the same time the house breaker box triggered.
The more serious issue though, is that there's a short somewhere in your system that caused the overcurrent.
Oh yeah i saw that when i cleaned out the unit a couple months back, i cannot say if it did though as those capacitors can be lethal if charged which assumably they are
I guess i could leave it for a couple weeks then check 🙂
Short probably happened inside the psu, killed the fuse and tripped your breaker box at the same time.. that's kinda the best case scenario. And if so, your other components should be fine
Psu might be dead though even if you get the fuse replaced.
Yeah i really hope this is the case but no burning smell or anything can only mean good but no idea until i inspect the unit when discharged 🙂
