#Will m.2 nvme ssd work in a m.2 sata slot?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
it most likely wont
Thank you!
If it fits in the slot, will it work?
whats the motherboard and slot
@viscid sorrel i think so
Try but dont force it in
But Google it and correct me if i am wrong
You welcome
What is the laptop and which slot in that laptop are you using
You should really see if the laptop specs state if it can accept an nvme drive
Acer aspire 5 with an i7 8th gen, the only ssd slot, M.2, currently has a SATA m.2 drive in it
will do that
Searched online, ppl said that it does, but is currently has an SATA, should I be fine?
You would be fine with a sata unless you are doing video editing you won't notice a difference
Thats correct, but I want to upgrade and they are abt the same price, so I was curious if it would work
As you can see in that diagram, slots can accept SATA and nvme, so just because it currently has sata doesn’t mean it ONLY accepts sata.
Also, you should only upgrade if the new drive is larger capacity. Like thor said, unless you’re doing heavy data transfer like video editing or machine learning, the swap would be a waste of money
It should but there is no performance increase using nvme vs sata unless you are doing a heavier task
I’ll try asking a third time, but after this you’re on your own.
What is the exact model number of your laptop
Yeah, I wanna upgrade from 256 to 512 or 1tb
One of the first google results when searching that model is the iFixit page, which includes an SSD replacement guide
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Acer+Aspire+A515-51G+SSD+Replacement/153700
The guide shows them using an NvME SSD and the slot being an M-Key
ooh, thank you so much!
