Kind of related, but are you using unraid for local media streaming?
Because, if so, you really want to just place it close to your router and use an ethernet cable
yes but like one low resolution stream at a time
and also im using it as a main pc aswell using vms
Ah
its not completely out of the question i just wouldnt be able to play vr in my room i would have to play wherever i find a spot for the computer at
but still i know that is always an option but i would rather not
According to what I'm reading, unraid is special when it comes to wifi. Apparently doesn't support it natively
yeah
thats why i am using this setup
i had it working somewhat decently on windows
i dont want to keep the dummy laptop running windows tho
If you have coax cable ports near your router and in the room you want to have your unraid PC, you could use MoCA adapter to carry ethernet traffic over coax. Powerline is another option that uses your electrical wiring to do the same, though it's hit or miss compared to MoCA.
As far as wifi, you're gonna have to do some kind of work around and I don't know unraid at all. I'd search around their forums for maybe if someone else posted how they did it.
thats not what im asking
i have a laptop with wifi
i want to use a network bridge to get ethernet to the unraid computer
yes
i cant get a wifi to ethernet network bridge to work on linux
thats why this is labelled software not hardware
Yes, it just wasn't clear to me that you wanted to bridge your laptop to unraid initially
This should help get you up
it didnt work
im prob doing something wrong i dont really understand most of it
but that is setting up a nat using the laptop as a router
a network bridge is using it as a switch
ok for now i will just find a spot to leave it where i can run a cable to it but i would like to get it in my room at some point
i have another more permanent solution later but i will leave this thread up
