so ive got windows on 2 ssds. A 250gb samsung 850 evo and a 1tb pny cs900. Ive got a basic install of windows on the samsung, and the pc boots into it fine, but when i select the pny drive in the boot order 1 spot, it just says "please reboot and select a drive with an os" (paraphrasing). My board is x79, could it be the old board not recognizing a new ssd?

when i got a new motherboard i had to turn csm in the bios settings on but i don't think thats related. Maybe bad installation of windows?
so ive built like 6 systems in the last week, and every windows install gives me trouble at finding and partitioning drives. Ive thought maybe i had a bad boot drive, but i made 2 different ones with completely different methods of installing it (rufus and windows creation media) and i get the same errors, so ive always just thought installing windows sucks and is tricky. Maybe its my boot media but i dont think it is. Ive got this system to boot off of 2 other drives, so ive thought maybe its a hardware issue, but the drive works fine for storage, and i can even see in windows that windows is installed correctly on the drive.
hmm theres not much i can help ya with here but I can only think of one thing and this is mbr and gpt but also have a look into trying csm on if you havent. Cables, bad drives, bad installation media, bad installation media usb, misconfigured bios settings? idk thats all i can think of unfortunately. good luck
Use the default Windows boot media. Also load up a 2nd USB drive with mobo and drive drivers- load those on boot.
windows boot media doesnt show up when i choose that drive, also if i have more than 6 drives plugged in, the pny drive doesnt even show up
ive tried using those in console (still not even sure what they are just followed a tutorial) and sometimes it works, sometimes i have to delete the drive and reformat it, sometimes if it was formatted its ready to go, sometimes i have to run the boot media like 6 times and change nothing for it to work
like i have 0 clue what my boot media is doind and if its causing this issue or not
Have you tried using a different cable and just leaving one drive connected?
I can't think of many other ideas to solve your problem mate. But just hearing about this makes me feel like I have a deja Vu moment. Maybe try a different SATA port?
ive done it all
i think im just gonna have to boot from my 2nd ssd
Unlucky. Well I hope ya bump into a solution or into someone that can help.
solution found. New pc. I thought it was an older board/newer ssd issue, and i cant say for sure, but its the only hypothesis ive not found a reason to count out
