#Just recently upgraded my gpu after what I thought was a gpu issue (1660ti - 3060) and my i7-9700k

Download DDU from Guru3d and download the latest driver for your GPU from Nvidia, AMD, or Intel from their respective download pages. Do not start DDU yet. Start Windows into Safe mode. To boot into safe mode, click on the start menu, click the power icon, hold shift and keep holding it, and then click restart. You should arrive at a blue screen with multiple options. Click on "Troubleshoot," "Advanced Options," "Startup Settings," and click on "Restart." Once you have rebooted into safe mode, run DDU and click on clean and restart. Install driver once windows boots normally. i thought ddu was for gpus am I mistaken?
it is did I read the beginning of this thread wrong?
Ye I couldnt fit it all in so i wrote it at the beginning
my i7-9700k is clocking at 0.97ghz
Just recently went from a 1660 ti to a 3060
that seems very odd
Right now its running at 0.8 ghz with only chrome and discord open
I've only ever experienced this issue with laptops (The laptop will thermal throttle and set the power plan to like 3 watts and it won't change back till the pc is cold booting)
Any help you guys can give is appreciated . After using almost 300$ already on this gpu I dont really want to buy a new cpu 😦
My temps are also at 90 I have a water cooler connected to it and I hear the water pumping through the tubes so it cant be my water cooler is broken
Could this result in a mobo issue? I just reapplied thermal paste last week and cleaned my computer.
Are they at 90 under load?
90 in the bios , it toggles from 89-90
I'm not sure if there's an application that can tell me what my temps are , but according to my bios ^
That is way too hot for the bios it should be in the 50s at most
That's what I'd assume as well , hence why my cpu is not clocking at its correct speeds?
What's your aio?
my cooling unit?
Yeah
I'm not sure where my box is , is there a way to check?
Send me a pic of the cooler
How old is it?
The aio ? About 2-3 years old id say
Do you hear gurgling from the pump?
I did something in my bios to where it boots but then turns off when it boots so I’m gonna have to reset my cmos . After I do that I’ll send a recording of what I’m hearing Z
Are you sure the cooler is properly on the CPU, with full contact and proper thermal paste?
Positive
You've tried taking it off and on?
Temps rely on ambient temperature, you don't happen to be in a sauna correct
Yes lol correct . I like it cold in my room as well .
@lyric latch re mount cooler with better paste
I agree it’s prob the AIO dead. If you have a stock cooler kicking around try it with that. But maybe clear CMOS before trying anything.
I already tried that but just earlier I did something in my bios and now my computer won’t boot up . So I’m gonna do that whenever I get to it which is probably tomorrow . Then I gues we’ll go from there
I already reset my windows , upgraded my gpu , reset my cmos , updated drivers , updated windows , cleaned computer , applied thermal paste , remounted AIO , rebuilt entire computer . The things that it’s coming down to are unfortunately the most expensive 😭😭😭 Either bad mobo , bad cpu and mobo , or bad AIO
If I reset my cmos do you guys think it could be a setting in my bios that’s causing my temps to be high therefore having FPS and a slower system?
Or it could be a bios bug did you check temps with hwinfo in windows?
No I don’t believe so how would I do that ?
Download hwinfo64 and check
I dont seem to see where it says my temps are in this software.
Close open it again and select sensor mode
Geezus that is a bad cooler
Dude wtf
This cooler must of went to shit on me
Its a corsair h60 or something like that
Do you recommend any coolers ? Preferably a not the most expensive 🙂
Yeah get a better air cooler
Do you have any recommendations ?
I have the shitty water cooler on my cpu now so what would I do with this air cooler once I buy it? Is this the one that mounts onto your computer?
Any liquid cooler won't idle at 90
@lyric latch try re installing the cooler
Maybe you left the plastic film on
Nvm that's a single 120 cooler
If you don't want it to be too expensive , i recommend getting a big tower cooler instead @lyric latch
And these just mount onto my cpu?
Yes
be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4, BK022, 250W TDP, CPU Cooler https://a.co/d/eLuVbWc

O mate my apolgies i just checked again and its an h60
Even this would be just fine
corsair
Hmm doesn't really make a difference, but try reseating it and changing the thermal paste
My brother just did that yesterday
put on new thermal paste etc
If the cooler is actually that bad , just get this or the dark rock on a budget
my computer is laying down rn
Damn
Did the problem exist before that?
Been happening for 3 weeks 😦
What about before 3 weeks?
First thought it was a virus , then I sent it to someone for 80$ and they did nothing to the computer
Nope, never
Hmmmm
Then thought it was my gpu , so I just started using my buddys 3060 and nothing changed
Is there a kink in the tubes?
and now were here rn
Can you try putting it upright
Definately the cpu overheating
yep
My brother had an idea that my cpu was shot yesterday. We saw an article of the same exact issues I was having .
So hopefully ... JUST THE FAN
I'll send a picture once my phone charges up here of what it looks like right now.
Alright
Does the fan spin or no?
I'm planning on selling a 1660 ti so i can get some money as well . How much would you recommend putting it up for? Been used for about 2 years
Well , i live in a country with bloated pricing so honestly I have no idea
Maybe 100-150
If what I'm touching is correct I feel air coming out of it , so i'm assuming so
Air can be passive pressure too, is your side panel transparent?
thats what im touching
In this pic, is there a fan blowing out on the left side of the AIO's radiator?
Yes I looked behind it’s
I see something spinning
And when I put my hand over it I feel cold air
cold air? it ought be hot
Nope lol it’s cold
sounds like your AIO pipes might not be working then, they should rotate the liquid and bring the hot to the radiator
Your cpu reports 100°C temps but the output air from the radiator feels cold.. so something is the issue between there
The air coming out from the radiator fan should be noticeably warmer than your breath.
Touch the AIO pipes, do they also feel cold?
There should be a clear difference between the two pipes, one is hot, other is cold.
I notice one is hot but the other one doesnt seem "cold" per say
Well cold might be the wrong word, more like room temperature I guess
Yes
I think your pipe is clogged, and water flow through the radiator is blocked at least partially
Can't really tell where the blockage is, could be inside the radiator or in one of the pipes, or in the cpu water block.
And since the AIO is a unit, can't really fix it either, it's easier to buy a new cooler and just replace the whole thing.
Gotcha , alrighty . Thank you boss man.
Do you have any recommendations ? Preferabbly not the most expensive? I have a i7-9700k
you asked about coolers before, I think the arctic duo 34 is a pretty decent air tower cooler for the money
The two techii sent earlier appear to only be amd compatable
and it's an air cooler, less chance of it going wrong than with an aio
I think the duo 34 works for intel sockets
ARCTIC, a leading manufacturer of low-noise PC coolers and components, initiated and continues to shape the trend towards quiet cooling systems. In addition to an extensive range of CPU/GPU coolers and fans, ARCTIC produces high-quality monitor arms and wall brackets as well as practical tech equ...
That's the thing I mean
How do I find out what intel socket I have? It lists some here but i just want to double check?
that's Intel's official database, doesn't get any more official than that. Socket is FCLGA1151
Appreciate it.... So it is 🙂
usually abbreviated to LGA 1151
It just says 1151
yep, that'll work
Anyway, from the fairly good data you provided, my guess is the AIO cooler is dead and that's why your cpu isn't working at top speeds (it's thermal throttling, basically limiting itself so it doesn't frigging melt and die)
So basically its doing what its supposed to do?
Exactly, it's protecting itself because the cooling is not good enough.
Cpu is doing exactly what it was designed to do in the case of overheating.
It just needs a new cooler I think.
Seems to be working fine otherwise.
The biggest clue was when you said the air from the exhaust felt cold.. that's a big wtf moment when your cpu says it's at 100C
Confirmed by you checking the input and output water pipes and neither feels particularly hot.
If I had to guess, the AIO pump is dead.
But yeah, getting a decent new air cooler for your cpu is an easy $50 fix.
Yep Im planning on buying this freezer 34
I PRAYYYYY it works
Been dealing with this for way to long , it was to a point where I was just like screw it lol
The thermalright cooler seems similar but it's not compatible with socket 1151
At least, that's what they say, and it's a bit weird that it isn't tbh
It's compatible
They forgot to put it in the name
I thought that might be the case yep, just a fail on whatever amazon employee was responsible for that page
Seems like it would be better at cooling, looking at the size and heat pipes
- it's a dual tower
I don't know anything about the Thermalright cooler though, so I guess.. read some reviews, maybe try to find if Gamer's Nexus ever tested it, or some other reputable PC hardware youtuber.
@radiant tangle lmao didn't expect it to be the best air cooler they tested
At time of posting, the Thermalright Assassin Spirit 120 is a $21 (it keeps changing!) CPU tower cooler. This review benchmarks it for thermals and more vs. the best CPU coolers.

Note that there's no included LGA1700 bracket right now. There will be in the future, but for now, t...
Found this on GN's youtube, not the same model, just same manufacturer
Soooo.... what are you guys saying? Dont go with the arctic freezer?
o wait a minute
I frigging love GN though, they are heroes for testing stuff and cutting through bullshit commercial advertising.
Id say if you don't need RGB , go with the thermalright peerless Assassin 120 Se
I can only vouch for the Arctic 34 myself, since I've got one. Can't say the same about the Thermalright.
Ye im not much of a red green blue person
The thermalright seems fine as well though.
This is more expensive and basically the same cooler just looking better
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler, 6 Heat Pipes CPU Cooler, Dual 120mm TL-C12C PWM Fan, Aluminium Heatsink Cover, AGHP Technology, for AMD AM4 AM5/Intel 1700/1150/1151/1200 https://a.co/d/h0lPSZE
I don't think you can go wrong, whichever you decide to get.
Probably just gonna go with the arctic freezer , thank you guys 🙂
Yep, good luck, and don't forget to buy some thermal paste too.
I have some right here
That's great too
just bought it a week ago lol
Noice
It will be ok but not better than a decent third party cooler
I was planning on just using it until I get this other one
Arctic freezer 34
Yeah that should be fine the temps will be high but not 100c
My brother has a pc too and he’s grounded I might just snag his lol
Lmao
That looks like an intel stock cooler. It's better than nothing/your broken AIO. Like Thor said, it works, not great though.
...they will be 100c
For a stock cooler maybe high 70s under load this isn't 12000 series.
oh sorry 9700k , I thought 11700k
11th series was really hot
Please don't be that guy who comes in 24h too late and goes well aschually...
Not going to matter much anyway since it's only temporary
Hello update ! I just bought my cpu fan and got it hooked up and everything …. But of course however when I try to turn on my computer it turns on just fine but nothing goes to my monitor and my keyboard is not turning on either .
Any tips would be fantastic
did you check if there is a debug light
ok so there you go, just fix that
From my knowledge that often refers to bad ram ?
Orre what
I have a different ram stick that I tried and still nothing
well most people would look in their owners manual, or an online pdf of their specific motherboard to translate the debug code to what the problem is, or look on the board to see what the light is showing, then go from there.
This would be a debug light correct ? It’s a solid light not blinking . I’ve tried to do some research and all I’ve seen so far was blinking debugs with a z390 ud( my same mobo )
bios?
My apologies. after looking at this pdf it is a ram issue . I ensured all of the ram sticks I have tried (3 in total ) have clicked in on the top and bottom and still nothing .
Yes when I posted that message I updated my bios and chipset .
kk i scrolled for a bit and didn't see that just wanted to check
👍
Just try with 1 stick
See if it posts
No it does not
I tried with two different types of sticks
The debug light goes to cpu for like a second or two then dram
Like so
