#Ram not running at speeds

Set the XMP profile, but Task Manager says it's running at half speed
Ryzen 3600 and AMD MSI A-Pro

#

Thats how it works

#

Its correct

#

1600 mhz double that is 3200 its just showing it halved

#

DDR double data rate SDR single data rate

shy cipher
#

that's rather unintuitive but I guess makes sense

cloud geyser
#

Its how it's designed

shy cipher
#

yeh if you know the trick it makes sense

#

Guess it's time for MOAR ram with these memory eating games

cloud geyser
#

If you need more ram then do 2x16 and return the 2x8

shy cipher
#

it's quite an old set
so IDK if that works?

cloud geyser
#

Oh

shy cipher
#

old as in 3 years or so

cloud geyser
#

Yeah then replacement and could probably sell it

shy cipher
#

also do I need the exact same ram if I would to let's say add another 16, or would another 3200 mhz set work?

cloud geyser
#

Adding another set would cause instability

#

Thats why I said replacement ๐Ÿ™‚

shy cipher
#

so I can't ""simply"" get another of the same set, plug it in?

cloud geyser
#

I mean you could but you lose out on xmp that's why if you wanna do that buy it all at once in one kit

shy cipher
#

ah so it isn't an easy upgrade
not exactly rich + it's a perfectly fine system, but not the newest
so looking to get a new system in let's say a year or 2
so don't want to invest in a 32 gig kit

cloud geyser
#

You probably should invest in a 32 gig kit if you stick with ddr4 a bit longer

shy cipher
#

Well it'll be next gen intel or AMD

#

Which is all DDR5 only probably

cloud geyser
#

12th gen and 13th gen Intel have both ddr4 and ddr5 variant boards. Am5 is all ddr5

cyan belfry
#

or it isnt?

#

mine shows normal 2667mhz

shy cipher
#

Now I'm really confused

cloud geyser
cloud geyser
cyan belfry
#

mine is 2666mhz cuz i have an i3 on a H410 mobo

cloud geyser
#

Ah that explains it

cyan belfry
#

I don't know how it works on ryzen systems tho

cyan belfry
# shy cipher

does intel PCs show transfer rate (like 3600mhz) and ryzen shows actual frequency (1800mhz in that case)?

cloud geyser
#

Think they show either or sometimes task manager shows 3200 mhz sometimes it shows 1600mhz but it translates the same I usually use cpu-z or hwinfo to confirm

cyan belfry
#

hm

#

well

#

common sense still works better

#

if i bought 3200 mhz and it shows 1600 mhz, then i can just assume it's undoubled frequency

cloud geyser
#

Its actual frequency is 3200 but since ddr is double data rate you just double it ๐Ÿ™‚

cyan belfry

oh
