i just rebuilt my pc since i got a new case for it and the gpu seems to not display anything? i’m using a displayport for it and i reconnected the same cables for it

#

posted it in the wrong chat

#

Let me get this straight. Your fans are spinning, but your lights aren't turning on and your GPU has no output, correct?

stiff spear
#

yup

thin mountain
#

@stiff spear

stiff spear
#

Sorry

#

I was checking the manual for it

#

i reconnected it to another gpu slot

#

used the hdmi

#

didnt work

ornate bramble
#

did you happen to replace your PSU?

stiff spear
#

nope

#

same stuff

#

its only the case i changed

#

because the last one was way too big

ornate bramble
#

all connections secure?

stiff spear
#

Yup

ornate bramble
#

oh, make sure your connecting to the GPU itself

stiff spear
#

Everything works but the gpu’s light and output

#

because the logo of it used to light up

#

Now it doesn’t after putting it in the new case

ornate bramble
#

so is it only the GPU? if you have integrated graphics can you atleast get a signal through them?

stiff spear
#

can’t use hdmi for the movo

#

mobo

thin mountain
#

What cpu do you have?

stiff spear
#

i7-3820

#

it works

#

i got windows on it, etc with the hdd

#

i had help from here

#

when it was on the old case

thin mountain
#

Sadly, your cpu does't have a integrated graphics card

stiff spear
#

yup

ornate bramble
#

do you have any old GPU?

stiff spear
#

nope

#

this is my first

ornate bramble
#

ok, uh try reseating your memory

thin mountain
#

Did you plug the 6+2 wire coming from the psu back into the gpu after you installed it?

stiff spear
#

yeah

#

could it be that?

thin mountain
#

Make sure its fully seated into your mother board

#

Also, Is your GPU modular?

stiff spear
#

i tucked it in tight, i’ll try again

#

what does that mean D:

thin mountain
#

It means that you can remove the wires from it

stiff spear
#

Nooe

thin mountain
#

It has a bunch of connectors integrated into the casing

stiff spear
#

Nooe

#

Nope

#

its only the 6+2

#

and for the mobo

thin mountain
#

Is there another 6+2 wire on the gpu?

#

If there is, try that one

stiff spear
#

it’s only this

#

Nothin else

thin mountain
#

Was this a prebuilt before you swapped cases?

stiff spear
#

Nope

#

Handed down to me from a friend, they built it

thin mountain
#

Check both of the motherboard wires

stiff spear
#

which ones?

#

I checked all of them

ornate bramble
#

send a picture whith your entire mobo in view please

stiff spear
#

do you want it turned on?

ornate bramble
#

Just so I can see it

stiff spear
ornate bramble
#

OK let's do what we can do

#

Try a new cable

#

Try only using 1 ram module

stiff spear
#

I don’t have any cables

#

t_t

ornate bramble
#

Oof

stiff spear
#

Its only those

#

This is my first tower

#

soo

#

i swear it worked on the old case, like everything was fully functional

#

it was doing fine

ornate bramble
#

The main problem is you could of shorted something

#

And the way to test it is to make sure it's not anything else

stiff spear
#

so i’ll try to take out some cables connecting to the psu?

ornate bramble
#

No, as far as we know it's something up with the GPU but we don't really have a way to test it

stiff spear
#

yeah i apologize:(

ornate bramble
#

Do you have a tech repair store anywhere near you?

#

Maybe a microcenter?

stiff spear
#

like an hour away from me, yea

#

or two

thin mountain
#

You are missing this wire

#

Your cpu has no power

ornate bramble
#

Oh shit, I dident notice that

stiff spear
#

oh

ornate bramble
#

Yea that would do it

stiff spear
#

that is not used

#

Lol

#

On the okd case

thin mountain
#

Ive been around the block a few times

stiff spear
#

when it was fully built

#

that was not used

#

or plugged in with anything

ornate bramble
#

Dosent hurt to try

thin mountain
#

That wire is the cpu power wire

stiff spear
#

This is whar it looked like

thin mountain
#

That pic was taken after everything was unplugged

stiff spear
#

It never had anything plugged into it ever since i got it

#

Ahh

thin mountain
#

Try plugging it in and see what happens

stiff spear
#

Oh i didnt notice

#

Um which do i plug in for that ?

thin mountain
#

should be a 8 pin

stiff spear
#

not a 6+2?

thin mountain
#

nope

stiff spear
#

got it, let me try to find it

thin mountain
#

6+2 is gpu only

stiff spear
#

Woohoo

#

got it

#

Thank you

#

I didn’t know that

ornate bramble
#

Ayyy

thin mountain
#

Your welcome

ornate bramble
#

And don't think your dumb I do it all the time lol was the first mistake I ever made with my first build

stiff spear
#

Ohh no

thin mountain
#

@ornate bramble I saw your post, it should be fine

stiff spear
#

Now the boot device led is red

#

And no signal still D:

ornate bramble
#

Reseat the sata power and data cables

#

Make sure there connected

stiff spear
#

How can i do that

#

Ahh

#

Okay

thin mountain
#

Make sure your drives are plugged in correctly, and that the sata data cables are plugged into your motherboard

stiff spear
#

Got it!

#

Thank u guys sm

#

I appreciate it

ornate bramble
#

Glad you got it working

#

It can definitely be stressful

stiff spear
#

it really is

#

ive been working on this since 3 pm and i didn’t expect building a pc can really be stressfull

#

stressful

thin mountain
#

If you want to, you could find a bunch of old parts and through them in a case so you can practice on that without frying anything

#

Thats what I use my old PC for

ornate bramble
#

Repetition is the best way to learn

stiff spear
#

i do have my dad’s old pc laying around somewhere

#

i could try to mess around w those soon

#

hahah

#

thank u sm i appreciate it
