Today when i booted my gaming pc, i had the bsod when starting the pc. I have 4 drives. 3x ssd's and 1x hdd. To fix this bsod, i have to reinstall windows 10(i think). I have set up an usb for that, but the problem is, is that it will apparently wipe all my computer's data. Will i just be able to unplug the important drives and get the install, plug the important drives back in and with all the important data in tact? Will the drives work fine? It does not give me the option to download the windows 10 to a certain drive from the usb.

i geet the following bsod error:
SYSTEM THREAD EXEPTION NOT HANDLED
Ntfs.sys

Okay, first of all you can try a system restore or repair

errant vale
#

It immediatwly goes to bsod, how do i do that?

random knoll
#

If you can boot into recovery, do an

‘sfc /scannow’
And
‘chkdsk /r’

#

Uhh

random knoll
#

You have a windows usb, right?

errant vale
#

Okay, so when you said that, i booted it without the 2 important drives

#

And now ot boots fine

#

Im very confused now

random knoll
#

Okay, you have 4 drives

#

3 ssd and 1hdd

errant vale
#

Yes, 2 are rwmoved

random knoll
#

Please list for me which drive is what

#

Tell me what is on it (roughly, like OS or games) and what format it is (nvme, 2.5 ssd, hdd)

errant vale
#

1x ssd 250gb is boot drive
1x 250gb ssd samsung evo
1x 1tb HDD (Important data storage)
1x 500gb ssd (important blender files and data)

#

The boot drive is plugged in the motherboard, i think its called nvme

random knoll
#

Ok, plug all your drives in, then unplug a SINGLE DRIVE until windows boots

#

That drive is the one with an error

errant vale
#

Okay, will do

random knoll
#

We wanna narrow down which drive has the issue to keep going

#

Make sure you only have one drive unplugged at any time for this to tell us

errant vale
#

Just booted it after plugging the 1tb hdd back in, the only unplugged drive is the 500gb ssd

#

It boots fine

#

Im gonna sgut off the pc and plug the 500gb ssd in and see what happens

#

I really hope the ssd isnt broken since its brand new and has a lot of important blender files on it

random knoll
#

I can try and help you recover the data if it is, so either way just stay calm!

errant vale
#

Everything seems to work now

#

All drives plugged in

#

I guess its fixed? Im gonna run a full diagnostics to make sure

#

That's odd so unplugging and plugging drives back in seems to have fixed the bsod atleast for now

random knoll
#

Chkdsk is a good option

#

Run with the /f command and it will only do safe operations

#

/r command is more vigorous

errant vale
#

Do you mean in cmd?

random knoll
#

So it would be chkdsk X: /f where x is whatever your drive letter is

#

So, apparently some windows files in the boot ssd were corrupted and now repaired

#

This doesnt supprise me since i think its a cacheless ssd from 3 years old

#

It had some minor problems in the past, but none this big

#

Im probably gonna swap it out for a much better ssd so i dont get these problems in the future, thanks a lot for the help!
