Reinstall windows not reset
This method only works on Windows 10/11 PCs. Please ask for other methods if using a Mac, Linux, or earlier versions of Windows.
https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10
- Insert an 8GB or higher USB stick into your PC. Format the USB to FAT32 or exFAT before installation. Formatting will ERASE ALL DATA on the USB. (Right click the USB > Format > File System: FAT32 > Quick Format > Start.)
- Download the Windows MCT (Media Creation Tool) from the link above.
- Run the MCT. Select "Create installation media for another PC." Follow the prompts to select your USB flash drive as your media and create the installer.
- Once complete, your USB is now ready to install Windows on another PC. Power down that PC. Insert the USB installer. Boot the PC.
WARNING: When installing Windows on a new PC, ensure only one drive (the drive you want the OS on) is plugged in. Unplug all other drives prior to installing Windows.
can you reactivate windows tho? if you already activated it
diskpart more reliable
go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO using chrome, (not any browser, chrome.) and you want to press on f12 to show dev tools, then click on the phone and tablet icon in the tope left of that dev tool page and you should see a phone emulation. click on "Dimensions" around the top and click on it. we want to unselect everything and have ipad selected, you should see your page change and instead of you needing to download media creation tool, you can download the file itself. then you open command prompt and follow these commands
list disk
select diskusb number
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
format fs=NTFS quick
active
now your usb should be bootable, go back to your chrome page and click on download and set destination to your usb, plug it in and everything should be fine
(this process should take around 5-60 mins depending on wifi and usb speeds.
if theres anything you need help with let me know by pinging me @marble linden in this chat

There is a online virus scanner eac I think if your still having problems
Yes, as long as the activation is tied to your Microsoft account, the activation will transfer
Yes, microsoft has been tying windows licenses to your MS account for a while now assuming you use it for windows login
So you login with a local only account?
ye
The older way was tying it to your motherboard, which I'm not sure if they still do that tbh
MAC address
No, that's a network identifier.
They do, but it's very flimsy. LTT had a video on it a while ago
i have it written down cuz i won't find the box
how it works then
can i just reinstall it and type in this one i have?
Just link your windows install with your microsoft account, and you'll never need that key ever again
Unlikely, it'll probably tell you it's already been used
How would diskpart solve the windows defender issue you can't format the drive since the os is running on it
If you're that dedicated to not linking a MS account, that works too
(look up massgravel)
i paid for it
then i have it
Windows keys unless you are changing hardware and don't have a retail key then you are technically stuck to the system that currently holds it.
For this specific machine, yes, unless you link it to your MS account. Then, when you change hardware/reinstall, Microsoft can deactivate your old install and reactivate your new one.
It's a massive upgrade from how it used to be many years ago
Yes it is.
Unfortunately my entire set of SanDisk cruzer blades inconveniently disappeared right at this moment
Well better get a new flash drive
which is why i said get another usb
