i think the pump in my aio is starting to fail but im not posative if the randoum sound i am hearing is normil ore if the pump is starting to faile.

it tipckily macks a gurgling sound when i boot up my pc but randimilt for a breef moment this last week i have herd a noies that i truly sont know how to discribe maby somthing between gergling and dry runing pump.

i have the pump on my aio canected directily to the 12v on my psu as using a mother bord fan haeder was moer trubble then its worth.

if this is normil for an aio to do this after a few years of runing then thats good however if this a sine of dieing pump then oh crap.

thenks for any info and im realy sorry my atroshis spelling

I have never water cooled so take it with a bunch of salt, but i would check the loops tubes for any trapped air and make sure the pump is at the lowest point in the loop

#

If it's not at the lowest point, it might just be struggling to get liquid. You can test that by tilting your pc carefully

chrome mortar
#

it literily statrd making the sound as i was moving to take the pick

buoyant patrol
#

That seems to be the lowest point-

chrome mortar
#

its as lo as it can be

buoyant patrol
#

Although

chrome mortar
#

?

buoyant patrol
#

I would still try to lie it down on its side

#

It might have some trapped air

chrome mortar
#

i can try the one moment

#

that was not easy

buoyant patrol
#

Did it make any noises while you did that?

buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

it made it the hole time i was mobing it but it seams to have stoped for now

#

however it tends to come and go so.......

buoyant patrol
#

I would keep it like that for a bit and observe.. its the only thing you can do with nontransparent tubes..

#

In an aio

chrome mortar
#

I am making a mental note if I ever have to invert this thing again I'm taking the side panel off first opening this was a pain and as soon as I tried to grab the tubes it started making that sound again

buoyant patrol
#

Tried to grab, or grabbed?

chrome mortar
#

i grabed both at once then ea h on its won

buoyant patrol
#

Sounds like air trapped in there to me..

chrome mortar
#

if i just ligjtly tap them.it sounds like the pump runs try

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Its possible.. how long has it been running?

chrome mortar
#

this is year 4 i think

buoyant patrol
#

Yeah, certainly possible..

#

Sometimes they arent even fully air free to begin with..

chrome mortar
#

oh

buoyant patrol
#

What im guess would be that because of that "U" shape it does around the cpu block, air gets trapped at the exhaust

#

Or maybe even intake?

#

But i have no actual experience, they are just "educated" guesses

chrome mortar
#

And educated guess is better than an uneducated one

buoyant patrol
#

Well.. yeah i suppose. Im just trying to imagine what could be going on in those tubes

#

I would probably try to have the air move away into the radiator, to try to get it as far away from the pump as possible

#

And running it at 50% speed would reduce the amount of air it would kick around

chrome mortar
#

Okay the fan speed I could probably do something about as for moving air through the radiator honestly that one you kind of lost me on I'm sorry

#

Currently I believe the CPU radiator fans are automatically controlled by CPU temperature I'm not entirely sure it's whatever the default of this motherboard is

buoyant patrol
#

Well, just imagine a bubble of air in the tubes

#

Now try to move that bubble to the radiator

#

Water is heavier than air

#

The fan speed shouldn't matter much since it doesn't interact woth the water directly

chrome mortar
#

So are you suggesting I just start tipping my PC different ways I'm sorry if I'm not fully understanding

buoyant patrol
#

Not nessesarly the whole pc, maybe its enough to tip the tubes

chrome mortar
#

thay rotate

buoyant patrol
buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

not a one

buoyant patrol
#

Mhm. Well, now the pump shouldn't have any air

#

Since well, water is heavier

#

You could try tipping it back upright now

chrome mortar
#

ok

buoyant patrol
#

And hope you don't hear any air in water noises

#

(although ill be afk for a little

chrome mortar
#

no sound

buoyant patrol
#

Then id observe and see if its "fixed"

chrome mortar
#

i have not herd enething and i left the side proped open with a wood brick to make it easer to hear

buoyant patrol
#

Alright

chrome mortar
#

im going to a tempt to up right my pc 🤞

buoyant patrol
#

Good luck

chrome mortar
#

one back paine latter

buoyant patrol
#

Ay, the pc is on its legs again

#

Any noises?

chrome mortar
#

Okay I am definitely vaguely concerned now because there's the pump is getting hot with the CPU but the radiator is not rejecting any heat oh dear

buoyant patrol
#

Yeaaah.. that.. awfully sounds like air in the loop

#

A heck ton of air tbh

chrome mortar
#

I may actually have to shut down my PC because it's going to overheat if I don't oh this has not gone well

buoyant patrol
#

I'd shut it off

#

Do you have by any chance a boxed cooler?

#

So you can fall back to that?

#

Until you sorted your aio?

chrome mortar
#

This is the only cooler I have that I can put on this computer I have a really old Intel stock cooler from the Pentium 4 days but the chances of me mounting that cooler to this board is zero

buoyant patrol
#

Fair

#

That sucks

chrome mortar
#

Sir you're telling me I was mid video game when this happened

buoyant patrol
#

I don't think the pump is dead, but i certainly think there is air in it..

buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

I mean it may as well be dead if it can't force the water through the cooling Loop

buoyant patrol
#

Well, yes

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

But there needs to be water touching the pump for it to pump

buoyant patrol
#

It has all kinds of security mechanisms

#

In the worst case it would have auto shutoff

chrome mortar
#

You know I often forget about the whole CPU thermal throttling being I typically deal with much older CPUs

buoyant patrol
#

Kind of same here

#

I get very uncomfortable by anything above 70C

#

60 is cozy

chrome mortar
#

Oh honestly I prefer my temperatures as low as I can possibly get them like I came from the era of the PGA pin good or whatever it is called Pentium 4 that was my last custom computer

buoyant patrol
#

Just dealt with one of those IBM ThinkPad 755C (Type 9545)

buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

I will confess and be completely honest I have never been one to constantly monitor my CPU temperatures I I know my motherboard has a built-in warning that will pop up if things overheat but for the most part I've just left the automatic everything settings and have had zero trouble up until today

buoyant patrol
#

Yeap

#

I like to monitor if under load, but otherwise, i usually let stuff be at default unless it runs too hot/slow, then i do some tweaking

chrome mortar
#

That is completely Fair I wish I was better at doing that maybe I would have noticed this sooner because it's been making this noise for a few weeks and I've been wondering why my games have been having moments of hiccuping and I thought it was just my video card being way overpowered compared to my CPU

#

This is going to sound incredibly stupid and it's going to look even dumber but I actually took the time and sealed all of the holes in the top of my case that aren't needed for holding the top on just to improve the amount of air that is put through the radiator instead of having it go somewhere else

buoyant patrol
#

All you really need to do so is MSI Afterburner

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

that macks me feal a bit better

buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

i guess im going to haf to find some way to run my pc on ots side untel i can save up for a new AIO

buoyant patrol
#

Mhm..

#

Or

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Invest in a decent air cooler

buoyant patrol
#

You can make small, big, left right, enable if you want to see certain things, disable others

chrome mortar
#

i have a quad momiter set up

buoyant patrol
#

It can on its own but not as a overlay or a stats display very well

chrome mortar
#

bummer

buoyant patrol
#

It works, but its clunky.. would rather use hwinfo64 for that

chrome mortar
#

i may haft to look in to both a bit more

buoyant patrol
#

Maybe even taskmanager could do the job

chrome mortar
chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Fair

#

How much tdp are we talking?

chrome mortar
#

i dont know the numbers i just know i have had desktops with air. oling and my games wood suffer untel i tuck the side off

#

and it was like a space hetter next.to me

buoyant patrol
#

Hm..

#

Well the heat output is the same

#

Either aio or air

#

What was it? A 9700k?

chrome mortar
#

I may have explained something poorly on my part I apologize for that this computer has always been liquid cooled from the day I built it to today the overheating issues I have described have been all my previous computers

#

And the only difference between this computer and my previous desktops is my previous desktops were all air cooled

#

I do apologize if I had explained something poorly

buoyant patrol
#

Yes, I've understood that so far. air coolers have evolved though

#

Some of them being able to handle 250W of heat

chrome mortar
#

oh

buoyant patrol
#

Your cpu has a tdp of 95W

#

Just like my ryzen

#

(5 2600x)

chrome mortar
#

I'm assuming the 95 watts is the stock configuration

#

This is not currently stock I definitely should have mentioned that and I apologize that I didn't my friend overclocked this for me and I'm not going to turn it on right now to check because I I don't want to risk this overheating if there's a problem with my AO but they should be running at 5 GHz or close to it

buoyant patrol
#

I personally use the BeQuiet Shadow Rock Slim, capable of 160W, and it holds up well for a quiet 20€ cooler

buoyant patrol
#

Although

#

Its funny

#

Most aio's are barely ahead of simmilarly priced air coolers. Ltt made a video about it. Either ways though

#

You should be fine to turn the pc on and check the bios

#

It'll emergency off if too hot

chrome mortar
#

I vaguely remember watching that video

buoyant patrol
#

And you can also try further Messing with the aio a bit to get it going or something

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Just be careful to not create any leaks

#

Yeah, it has a slight oc

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Yup

#

24c

chrome mortar
#

The temperature just kept going up and I turned it off

buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

He said something about 5 GHz maybe it boosts to five I don't entirely know this was about a year ago when my buddy overclocked this for me

buoyant patrol
#

Probably base clock overclock and them it boosts higher

buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

i know nuthing aboutover clocking

#

90c°

buoyant patrol
#

Yeah thats not normal

chrome mortar
#

nope

buoyant patrol
#

Turns out your cooler is just not mounted properly

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Seems fair

#

Although probably isnt anything too complicated to achieve

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Maybe has come loose, but doubt it too

#

Mostly a joke

#

Ah, im at 3% battery.. nice

chrome mortar
buoyant patrol
#

Yeah

#

Seems about right

#

Well, could try getting the aio to run again

chrome mortar
#

Well kind sir I have to thank you greatly for your massive amount of help but I'm going to have to stop as I need to go to bed it is extremely late at night and again thank you immensely for your wealth of knowledge that you have provided to me this is been a great help going forward

buoyant patrol
#

Or, you could undo the oc if needed, and fall back to something like the 20€ cooler i told you

chrome mortar
#

I well absolutely look into that thank you very much

buoyant patrol
buoyant patrol
chrome mortar
#

UP DATE
so my pc will onily work on its side if i put it up right it over heats :(

buoyant patrol
#

Hm..
