Hey, i am running into the problem that my ssd is like always full, its an smaller one and i dont even have big things on there, i wanted to know if i could move like some documents and downloads folder to a driffrent drive and what other stuff that isnt impacting my performance, because i would love to put my paged file onto the ssd because a sata ssd is still faster then my hdd, is there a way to do that?

I always move my Downloads folder to a HDD for space reasons (No need to delete downloads for long periods of time) and also SSD health (downloads tend to be the most written directory).
You can change it in Downloads properties' Location tab
ahh cool
You can do it for most special folders under This PC location
ok
can i also move the standart save game location then=
because like i reset windows that often and i never touch my other drives
Standard save game location tends to be in Documents folder
Yeah when you change the location it will ask you if you want to move everything to the new location
ok
is that going to slow down my loading times in games
or is that like a minor thing
It definitely could do that, yes
Depends on the game though. Most save files are pretty small so there will be no effect
yeah
Generally for games that take a long time to save/load it will take longer
ok ok
Yeah it's part of Documents
so i cant move that seperatly
You can technically move any folder by linking it
cool
yeah right
so i could keap That folder on my ssd but move the rest
and just link it
Yeah you can manually move any folder to any disk and then create a symlink with same name linking to the new location
cool that i finally know hot to move the downloads folder
i have a folder where i always move like my downlaod folder contents into
its like 40gb big :d
ok
thanks for the help
np
Do some reading on symlinks/hardlinks/junctions though
It's not hard but it's always better to know what you're doing :D
ok
is it even possible to move the page file
windows just automaticly uses my hdd for that
that is also used for the games it self 😄
and idk if that is to good for the speed of both
Yes it's possible to move the page file but you should probably keep that one on SSD.
You can change size of it but I'd leave it in default
Yeah
I want to move it there
Windows automatically put it on the game hdd
Settings/System/About/Advanced System Settings/Advanced/Performance/Advanced/Virtual Memory
Very hidden :D
Thanks
This is for windows 10
you on 11?
Yes
Lemme check on my laptop
Xd
holy shit my reserved memory are 26gb
i hope i can get that much of free space 😄
well it's the same on windows 11
It looks different but the path is the same :D
ok
what does your diskmgmt.msc look like?
why is your system on harddrive 2
also you made the mistake of making the game drive a dynamic disk
the one up there is my stuff hard drive(it has some weird old windows stuff on there) and the other one is for games,
thats my ssd
idk why windows calls it like that
i didnt do that
that was so already
the drive was a not dynamic before
then i reinstalled windows because virus
and now its like that
well. not that it really matters for a mechanical.
Yes. Basically you want to move all your stuff To another drive
it might be the virus. Anyhow, you can't change it back unless you wipe the drive
Not that it matters
and i am not going to do that
because my internet is fuckin slow
100mb download and then i have like 800gb of games
yes.
I think, going forward, in addition to moving your stuff to another drive, maybe get a larger SSD (at least 250GB and upward) since they aren't as expensive as they used to be
and maybe clean-up your old system drive in the process so migration would be easier
i tried
are you dual booting by any chance
nope
thats just some old windows 10 partition on there
that still works btw
it says needs repair
but i can boot into it
and idk why
because i wiped that drive after i switched to the ssd
well, clearly you didn't wipe it.
Or you did but the boot sector (the first two "system partitions") still says that your old disk's primary sector have windows
yeah can be
but like i dont realy care
i can use it as an backup when my mom turns my pcs power off during an update again
because that totally broke windows so often
AHH
it's not very important, but I find it beneficial to actually know what is going on
especially for multiple systems like that.
me too
how does windows even decide which drive to name 0 1 and 2?
is that like random
it's probably dictated by your motherboard/drive controller
or, if not, the order the disks are discovered.
so like, drive 0 becaue that's your first system drive
then you added drive 1 (and 2) later
mhh
makes more sense that the bios dictates it
because i know that the ssd is in port 3
and the other two in 1/2
ok
anyhow. Viel Glück.
Danke
cant i just delete those partitions trough power shell?
ok that worked
i tried making the one bigger, now they are two dynamic ones...
but windows seems to be gone
ah. so partitions can only extend to the right
it cannot extend to the left, because partitions are marked by their length, and the starting offset.
The exception is dynamic disk, which is technically one giant partition spanning across the entire disk, BUT Windows create "fake" partitions to work within it
ok
and they are bad for SSDs
is that some weird hdd thing or is that like some windows thing
ok
no it's a windows thing. It's not a huge deal, but its more trouble than worthwhile. usually.
moment why accutally?
Since Dynamic disks can be across multiple drives, any individual drive cannot be read outside of the system (it can only be accessed from the system that created those disks)
So if the system dies ...
ok
ok
i had the ssd on 0mb free sometimes 😄
so i should remove like 11gb from the ssd partition at best
you can fill the partition, but you should leave some free space on the disk unused by any partition
Re-allocate is a SSD controller thing, and so it won't touch anything inside data containers (partitions)
for a cheap ssd, yes, and worsened by the fact that you put your personal important files on there
nah most important stuff is on the hard drive
because i reset windows so often :d
because issues
harddrive is frankly no better, because a hard shock can destroy those drives
my drive shoudnt not be a cheap drive i think
i know
but in my case its more safe
because i have to reset windows likes once a year because some stuff
and one hardrive lasts longer then a year i think
did microsoft redu the hard drive section in the settings
i remember it as realy stupud
know its somehow helpfull
what hard drive section
is diskmgmt not enough
i mean in the normal settings
this
Now i know where my ssd space is.. XBOX installed two games on there
the fuck
lol
