ok
well that's something it does better
so the kbd67 is better quality and feeling than the akko ...
I don't care about sound unless there's spring ping or stab rattle
I don't care about the pitch, the click, the thonk or whatever sound a keyboard makes ...
so like it's stiffer, heavier, better quality control than the akko ?
The typing experience is not stiff, well at least for the one I built since it was pom plate
But yeah it have some weight
Quality is definitely better than most alternative in the price range
huh ... south facing
No interference with cherry profile
yes ... but it's not something I really care about ...
is there a way to swap the right ctrl for the contextual menu key without having to install a software ?
north facing interference is still switch dependant as well btw
You need via, a software
Which can do overlay and stuff
Pretty important for custom keyboards
Kbd67 lite pcb is flashed with via iirc
meh ... is it bluetooth only or is there a dongle for 2.4ghz ?
cause I only see mention of bluetooth
Bt only
sad
also once you configure it with via ... do you need to have via on the pc all the time or I can just uninstall it ?
cause I don't like having software I don't use on my pc
if it doesn't need to have the software after first config I'll just uninstall it
like there's already enough stuff I don't want to add more than needed
https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-k4-wireless-mechanical-keyboard-version-2 does this site also deliver to the Netherlands? because its twice as expensive at dutch retailers.
Keychron K4 (Version 2) Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. 96% Layout but Compact. Wireless or Wired. Bluetooth 5.1. For Mac and Windows. Optical or Gateron Switches. Connect up to 3 devices. Inclined bottom frame. 15+ RGB Backlight. Dedicated caps lock indicator light.
You'll find out at check out
I have no idea
hey guys which mechanical switch should i get for gaming? red or brown? I can't get blue cause my pc setup is next to my dad's room so i cant be too loud when i use my pc at late nights, i heard red is better for gaming and not as loud as blue but i'm still considering brown
it's preference and nothing more
there's no such thing as a switch better for gaming
^
unless the only thing you play is hardcore osu ... then you should get something with the lowest total travel possible which is most likely ultra slim keyboard with scissor switches
well its just valorant and apex
then any switches will do ...
don't get into the gaming marketing bullshit
get the swiches you like the most and that's about it
if you want silent stuff get something with silent switches ... like cherry silent red, kailh silent box pink, kailh silent box brown, aliaz silent, zeal zilent, bobagum, boba u4 and many many more ...
or if you are rich ... topre silenced
yall know the car mats on the floor of cars right
i used it on my keyboard and it works supeisingly amazing compared to foam
ofc brand new car mat that hasnt been used
dont know any of the methodology of it but it makes a deeper sound signature
ye ik
its just another sound dampening material
hello keyboard nerds
hey
nah a Kailh Choc or Speed Silver would be better for osu
They have longer total travel
yes, but they are much better-optimized
Still shorter would be better
it would be better if a mechanical keyswitch was widely available with an even shorter travel. But a Choc or SS would be far better than the best of the best scissor switches
actually im unsure it its because its denser than foam or if its just bouncing back the sounds that makes a deeper sound sig not sure
thoughts?
I've never heard the nimble back. Have you looked into it?
Personally would jsut get a keychron c1 but if you're confident in that board alr
Also pretty sure the c1 is cheaper rn cause of a big sale they have rn
Lubing station is probably gonna be low quality but fine
Idk anything about akko switches so I'd wait for another response on that
Rust wrest kinda looks low quality but I'm sure it's fine
I'm 90% sure those keycaps are low quality although they would probably be fine
I've heard good thing from akko switches but I've never tried them so I can't tell ya
I would get it on there website
idc about lube station because ill just use it once
cheaper from amazon
It's completely configurable on there website
like 40 dollars shipping from them
Really?
yeah
I thought it was 30 but alr
hey guys do reds and brown switches have a noticeable loudness difference or no?
No
different feel
Not in my experience they sound basically the same
linears are softer
^
browns are usually used in a basic keeb
reds are linears so they're a bit lighter for gaming
I would get it off they're website over amazon that's a third party seller and they're not very clear in the marketing
yeah, reds are more tactile and uses less force but overall im looking for a bit of quietness but i dont have the budget for a quiet mechanical keyboard so im buying the more basic ones in which im debating in whether brown or red, ive heard browns are the quietest but if it's not much difference with red then im probably going with red
if you game more get reds
I'd get on website lmao, it's +10 for hotswap
It's all preferences. It doesn't matter what your using it for unless it's osu
well its mostly to not wake my dad up in the night when im late night gaming since my pc setup is right next to my dad's room ;-;
ofc blue is out of the question 💀
https://www.amazon.ca/Keychron-Swappable-Mechanical-Bluetooth-Gamer-Version/dp/B09NKRWYTY/ref=sr_1_13?crid=2X398EI22E0XS&keywords=keychron+c1&qid=1646539016&s=electronics&sprefix=keychron+c1%2Celectronics%2C164&sr=1-13 125 for a numpad and hot swappable
reds are slightly queiter since theyre softer
What do you think you would prefer a smooth motion from to to bottom or a small tactile bump in the middle of the keystroke?
Not really
but tactiles are close, just feel more like something from a library computer
is there a TKL or 67 version of this?
What's your budget?
thats the hot swappable one
non hot swapable is a 100 cheaper
That's over priced
Dude jsut link keychrons website instead of some third party Amazon seller lmao
If you want tkl get keychron c1 or for full size c2
Keychron C1 Mechanical Keyboard. Tenkeyless Layout. Connects via wired type-c cable and users can hot swap every switch in seconds with the hot-swappable version. Compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux. Gateron Switches. 15+ RGB Backlight
WHAT
reds = tactile???
meant linear
well based on my experience browns arent the "quietest"
on par with reds with the noise
then ill go with reds
really?
red and browns are basically the same for me, just the type of sound they make is differnty
yes but what i said that it isnt quiet
I wouldnt base a decition like that on how loud it is I'd get the one I like the feel of better, your not gonna wake anyone up with a brown
yea, neither switch is "quite"
but they're not loud
yea
I mean I dont have reds or browns but comparing a phantom brown build to a gat yellow build I'd say they're pretty close in sound
the gat sounds alittle more muted but thats more dependent on the case then the swithch
i put like a layer of foam on top of the car mat and that top parts sounds clackier than the bottom parts with no foam
i think i shouldnt put any foam
still on that tester 68
heck yea
sick
even if its wireless
actually being wireless is kinda good for reducing cables lmaoo
also i don't understand why people would build a silent mechanical keyboard, idk it just takes away the mechanical keyboard to it in my opinion, if you'd want silent then just stay with a membrane imo
Akko lavender purple are better imo
Silent mechanical are nice
Way better feeling than a rubber dome board
silent mechs feel way better than a membrane
like first of all you don't get linear silents
and sound isn't the only thing people care about re:boards
there are plenty of silent switches that have the same feel as non muted ones as well
It will be somehow different just because of the silent rubber
But yeah some with harder rubber will feel similar to non-silent ones
ayee even if it was 15s first time getting 100wpm
W
I agree
Pog
Keychron c2 would be a nice upgrade if you wanted to stick with full size
Ah
Also pretty nice for putting development key binds in games
Cause the number pad generally isn’t used in games
Thank you for your suggestion
Yea I'd go with c2 then
Ah that's handy
Hotswappable right?
It's all configurable on there website, yes they have a hotswap version
Np
Ngl that keyboard genuinely looks good
Only complaint with it really is it's abs keycaps which is fine cause I like abs but lots of people don't, north facing rgb so cherry profile keycaps have interference
Build quality is excellent for plastic build
Ima add it to my list of things I cannot afford yet
If you care about acoustics tho it's ehh, it's a very high pitched board and kinda hard to combat
Lmao
Welp I have a birthday coming up so I better start begging my parents
Acoustics aren’t really something I generally worry about. As long as a keyboard doesn’t feel like there sand in it or sound like an echoy mess it works for me
I mean rn is as good a time if you could get some extra cash, they having a sale thing. 30% off most baords
Yeah
It’s going to be interesting getting a keyboard like this since my pc gaming life I’ve been using keyboards like k55s and k70s
Today I'll show you how to disassemble/take apart your Keychron C2 or Keychron C1 for repair and how to mod it to give it a deeper less hollow noise/sound signature. Keychron disassembly link: https://www.keychron.com/pages/how-to-disassemble-c2
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Other-=-=-=-=-=-...
First bit of it is before and after modding if you were curious
Aight
Damn
Yea that would be a big improvement
My first gaming keyboard was a 15 dollar xtreme gaming keyboard I got at menards while my dad was shopping for wood
Along with a matching xtreme gaming mouse
It was shit
The keyboard was echoy rubber dome junk
The mouse felt cheap
Ah, I actually recently "fixed" of one those 15$ extreme gaming boards
Ah that's handy
It was the upgrade I got from that cheap keyboard
It served me well. I gave it a deep clean recently as well
I've actually touched a Corsair board
It was so filled with crumbs and the keys were sticky
Some isopropyl alcohol and about a hundred q tips later it was clean
Yikes
Surprising
Since corsair makes their keyboards so hard to open
I don’t even know why
I can't stand dirty keyboards so
My current keyboard is in need of a good cleaning too
I probably spray my board with canned air at least 5 times a day
I eat at my desk so my keyboard gets filled with crumbs and stuff
I do too but I don't use my board as a plate
And since I was busy with school and a little bit of yknow mental shit I haven’t cleaned my keyboard
Ah I mean that's fair
Gonna give that bad boy a deep clean when I wake up
I’ve had pretty positive experiences with corsair keyboards
My k55 was great never had an issue with it
I Jsut can't stand knowing anything is dirty, except my mouse that thing looks fucking discussing
My k70 was decent except the volume wheel is a bit wonky
That's good
My mouse is filthy
Corsair fans I’ve had the worst experience with tho
2 of the 3 corsair fans I’ve bought failed after a year
One of them started making a weird grinding noise and the rgb went out
I would love to clean my mouse but I'm a drag clicker and when ever I clean it I can't drag properly for acouple days till finger grease gets back on the surface
The second one started making a grinding noise
And since I lost the screws it’s held in with zip ties and remains forever off
Also never had they're fans
Lmfao ever tried tape?
The g502 doesn’t drag click for me
I've used Corsair lpx ram which has been great and a random vorsain power supply that's been good bit I've had friends have there power supplys fair from Corsair so I'm kinda jsut 🤞it
Never got it to drag click ever
Don't like it, don't get as high
Surprising since this cheap little wireless hp mouse I have can drag click
But it’s so terrible it doesn’t register half the clicks
Logitech has a really high debounce time
Yeah
I can get a constant 25~ short drag and 40-60 long drag
I don’t even use half the buttons the mouse has tho
But I like the ergonomics of the g502
Yea
I liked my 502, but I switch it for 305 then 705 and now I'm on roccat kain 100aimo
Well I didn’t buy it, my dad got it for me as a Christmas present
Ah
I honestly didn't mind the weight
I had all the weittghs in, it could have been heavier for all I care
It’s a surprisingly good desk tho. Very sturdy. I just don’t like that it’s red since I’ve kinda switched my whole vibe from red to blue-purple
Nice
Ah, yea the gamer red
Red phone case, red switch controllers, all the rgb set to red
Now my rgb is constantly on rainbow mode and I don’t rlly care enough to change it
Since I have like 7 different lighting softwares
I've got one lmao
I kinda wanna make my setup a white blue purple setup
White desk, white pc, blue purple rgb
My monitors tho
They aren’t really the greatest
They are good tho
1080p 75 hz led panel for my main monitor
And a 1080p 60hz lcd panel for my second
Fairly good monitors never had any issues with them
Might swap em out for 1440p 90hz tho
My secondary display is color accurate but 22" and 75hz while my main is 165hz, 1080p, 24", and it's ips but colors are absolutely gargabge aswell as Contrast ratio
Ah
Oof
I believe my main monitor is color accurate
My second one is a bit less saturated tho
That be nice, what specific monitors have you looked at if any?
Not many
Ah
Have been looking at some Samsung monitors tho
I also have a random tv above my setup
Since this isn’t rlly about keyboards anymore should we move the convo
That's handy, as someone whom does a fair bit of video editing it's a pain in the ass having to move premiere over to the second monitor to do your color adjustments
Yeah
Ah, damn that tv tho
Yea prolly should
Nice nice
these are Space Invader Keyboards
these have Space Invaders switches
can look it up as to what those looks like
these are the black linear ones
heavy

why not grab a 1080p 165hz or 1440p 144hz?
neat! my normal typing rate is 60wpm but I can get it to 100 if I type fast
also that's on my heavy tactile board, I kinda wonder how fast I'll type once I finish building my linear (probably either Kailh Speed Silver or something) or my clicky board (box midnight jade)
also I'll be building a board on silent Bobas one of these days
haha immediately
new best on a vintage board
i did not reach 120 on my current boards
any thoughts?
im sorry if theres a lot of mic feedback
still testing where i can put the mic where theres not much mic feedback
the spacebar is a bit too hard but it sounds alright
what do you mean by a bit too hard
what is a good threshold to detect chatter with a program like EK switch hitter
in miliseconds
Best keyboard over all?
there's no such thing as best keyboard
it depends of what you like and what features you need
Um ok
i would just avoid corsair
i had two of them with cherry mx brown that had chattering out of the box
avoid any gaming brand
unless you are deep into the ecosystem ...
ive used durgod k310 for over a year now with blue switches and it seemed good
has a really heavy switch plate
i think 6 switch options on amazon
i replaced all the switches on mine yesterday
which is even sadder
yeah I don't want to bother with desoldering
i cant tell if these switches are chattering though
or if im just not used to linear
a few keys i double type sometimes
box black and box yellow
never had any keyboard do that
it happened on i think corsair k68 with brown switches
happened day one of use on specific keys
then i returned it to the store and got another one same issue but different keys
went away if you hit the key like 10 times in a row but would come back later
that's some defect there ...
might be happening on a few keys now on the keyboard i finished putting back together but i dont really have any spare switches
only ordered alittle over the amount needed to replace the old switches
Corsair boards are extremely prone to chattering
I've had 4 k95s chatter on me
it's a defect of the PCB most likely
ive had 30 dollar mechanical keyboards with 0 chattering
then 100 dollar corsair with it
great brand
only thing i liked was the software
yea Corsair is just a brand to stay away from in terms of periferals, all of them are garbage
I've had mice double click and brick, headsets brick all from corsair
i had a corsair PSU that survived being abused repeatedly
coolant spilled into it while running
just washed it out and it worked again
only things Corsair sells are good are PC components and cases
theres a clip of someone sponsored by corsair playing tarkov
picking up his keyboard blowing on a key
all corsair peripherals
What layout do you want?
Honestly I'm ok with there mice
Only big gaming commpany that can double click
well, cases maybe. their ram is dogshit
anything happen with yours?
I don't use corsair
it has a high DOA rate
and it doesn't hit specs
normal
I havent had issues
65
keychron k6 is pretty nice, or theres the rk61
rk61
I think thats what its called
gk61?
ah yes, sorry I forgot the name
hold on
this is my config
for the ketboard
but im probably gonna swap the keycaps
Expensive
And my eyes can’t tell a difference
a good 1440p 90hz panel is definitely going to be more expensive than a good 144hz 1080p panel
note good
your eyes can def tell the difference, you just think they can't
reduces eyestrain and reaction time by a lot, especially if you play shooter games
just note those are optical switches but looks fine
ik
Way less
Aesthetic keyboard
I mean they look nice but why
Half of the ones I’ve seen aren’t even mechanical
Plus they are overpriced
It’s just like I don’t see a point it’s too expensive and you aren’t even getting that good of a keyboard
Plus iirc you can get a solid board and get these pastel key caps for it and it will be way cheaper
Hi everyone, I am thinking about buying packs of optical switches to build my own keyboard. But how would I check their compatibility with the different PCBs?
Who needs a gaming keyboard when the SAMSUNG PLEOMAX PKB-720B kicks ass?
Big fan of Keychron keyboards
I've gone through 3 keyboards and I always come back to this one, super asf durable
gimme a USB version and i'm set for life
I do like me some girthy enter keys
It's a gaming keyboard
the superior enter key
seriously for those 1 space backspace keys
how the hell do you survive
(im sorry that was too harsh, i'm just used to 2 space backspace key)
Looks kinda wack with those keycaps ngl
Why optical?
Yeah
These keyboards were a trend
Kinda died off tho but i still see some people using them
They aren’t good keyboards idk why people buy them
afaik almost no standalone pcbs support the optical switches
Yea it doesn't even look good quility
I thought that they have a longer lifespan and faster response time.
Durability is prolly to but the response time is marketing bullshit, your not gonna notice it
i'm still using cherry switches from the 80s without issues
I wouldn't get optical there's no choices for switches and very little board options as a whole
lifespan is usually not an issue lol
Ehh i wouldn’t say they are worth it
Old cherry was good
New Cherry's are terrible
🤔
That is true
sometimes miss my vint cherry collection 😔 they're good boards
Didn’t cherry used to kinda dominate the switch market
but at least i only have ones that i use now
Yea
I think they still do for the most part?
But then gateron and other companies started making more variants of switches
They do t make good switches anymore though, they jsut running off reputation from when they did make good switches
So there’s more variety outside of cherry
cherry was good for like 5 years in the 90s lmao
Yea
Pretty much
My current keyboard has cherry mx silvers
They suck
i have a single board with mx blacks now
they havent been good for the most part of the internet age
They are pretty cheap and terrible sounding
yes those vintage blacks mmm mmm
Might also be because I’m using a corsair k70
Yea
And corsair keyboards are a bit echoy and bad sounding
Yeah
It’s just overpriced
I got it as a Christmas present tho
Way before custom keyboards took off
The build quality isn’t that great for being metal either
My volume wheel is already screwed up
G915 and I think it was the g905 or smthn?
It was a full size membrane that's all ik
hot dcs
i'm glad i have a board for soware now
Pretty board
gonna try dolch replica at some point, when i have a second plate/pcb
What are y’all’s favorite switches
topre 30g lol
lmao
fav mx will be a good batch of vintage browns
topre 55g and skcm orange
but most browns are fine
did you ever get into vint blue memes
ah nice
Kenetic labs penguins atm
i fuck with them, and i figure putting into CL would be funniest
just gotta find one first T_T
Lmao
i missed one for good price, and since then i've been hunting hard
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/443851583546195980/949597096242217031/cachedImage.png mx do u know shit about this connector? i wonder why its so popular, i much prefer normal connector
gotta ask the koreans lmao
Oh I was jsut looking at those
this shit was built by gon
I wonder why more people dont use XLR
his building isnt bad at all, but i dont love it
stabs are overlubed to my preference
builders are overhyped as hell anyway, its not like they have a standard to follow
i think he usually signs the pcb
i gotta take the board apart sometime to check
my cheat flexes more than this, i was quite surprised
it doesnt feel bad but its not particularly impressive
still nice to have a linear board though i guess
how many kustoms do you have btw?
i have more vint stuff - 2x ansi 5k
i had an LZ-S a while back but i traded that for a couple artisans
yeah i remember those
you said you keep the spare incase the first one dies right? kek
heheh
gotta justify hoarding somehow
its the board which truly made me fall in love, having both variants (in a layout i can actually use) is neat
Lmao
its quite disappointing how the tx case seems to have nowhere for fixed cable to go
almost as if fixed cable customs arent common anymore 😞
good riddance 🙂
I mean I dont see why you would want a fixed cable, it's alot nicer having a detachable one
yeah thats very fair
i think they look nice
and detachable ps/2 cables arent common
Ah yea
guys is the TT esports by thermaltake good
I wouldnt think so

Heres my recommendation: https://www.keychron.com/products/keychron-c2-wired-mechanical-keyboard?variant=32294074581081
https://www.logitechg.com/en-us/products/gaming-mice/g305-lightspeed-wireless-gaming-mouse.html
Keychron C2 Mechanical Keyboard. Full-size 104-keys Layout. Connects via wired type-c cable and users can hot swap every switch in seconds with the hot-swappable version. Compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux. Gateron Switches. 15+ RGB Backlight
120$ cad
yea nah I woudnt get that
if you want a full size kb I'd get a keychron c2 and g305
oh hek naw
oh ok
I need a recommendation for a keyboard. I'm looking for something that is good to type on, isn't obnoxiously loud, has a numpad and media keys, and preferably rgb. Any suggestions? Thanks!
I tend to like red switches, so something with reds would be ideal
keychron c2?
Keychron C2 Mechanical Keyboard. Full-size 104-keys Layout. Connects via wired type-c cable and users can hot swap every switch in seconds with the hot-swappable version. Compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux. Gateron Switches. 15+ RGB Backlight
yeah but that's a mac keyboard
no its not
it has a mac layout in the picture
you have to switch 4 keys and flick a swithch
but the media keys are on the function keys
but ig those are just accessible with fn?
yea fn and then the f keys
idk many full sized with dedicated media that arent terrible sorry
all good
it does look good apart from the white keycaps, but ig I can replace those
For Linux users, we also have a dedicated user group to help with the experience.
hm
this seems good
oh weait
they mean a literal fb group
not a linux users group lmao
you dont like them? yea you can get third party just note if you get cherry profile the rgb is north facing so theres some interference
np glad to help
is having both a 60% and a full sized keyboard a good idea
if you have a separate gaming and productivity rig then it makes a lot of sense, if you only have one desk setup then i dont see the point
cause i kinda wanna have a keyboard i can put on a mount on my wall to look cool but then can be swapped out when i need to actually use my full sized keyboard
if you see yourself using a numberpad you could build a separate little numpad board
those are cute
but if youre a frequently productive person id recommend staying at 75% or TKL
hmm
i dont use the number pad too often but i do have some keybinds set to the numpad in a few of my games and i do use it as developer shortcuts and debug keys
but i do like the idea of having a smaller keyboard when i dont need the extra keys
i probs could get a tkl then make a numberpad extension
me with 5 keybaords
then just put the numpad extension away when i dont need it
lmfao
im kinda in a race to upgrade from my old corsair k70
its a good keyboard but im starting to realize its flaws
speed silvers arent really that great of switches and corsair keyboards just have an overall bad quality for their price
I just like trying things
if you enjoy the hobby you could justify having a load of keyboards but if youve never built one before i suggest making one thatd fit your usecase best instead of making several immediately
the keychron q1 is my daily driver cause its super bounce and I like the typing feel
hmm
and then others are jsut idk they're there
I use the keychron k6 pretty often too, I use it for my laptop
I like the idea of a keyboard for games and a keyboard for work
preferably linear and sounds decent
a linear switch with your preferred weight
its all preference
linear or clicky if you like how it sounds
if you have no idea what you prefer and it's your first time id go with a medium weight linear
I have no suggestions for linear I cant stand them
also is switch lubing a really tedious process
for linears gat yellows are pretty decent as a starter. cheap and are quite smooth once lubed
I'd presonally say tactile since most people are coming from membranes, a tactile is gonna feel closer to home
akko brand switches are really cheap and have a lot of options for weight and travel
https://www.amazon.com/Akko-Switches-Compatible-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B09K7QX9QK
eh, I dont mind it
I also do it "wromg"
they also have tactile if youd rather that
I just lube the stem, just use double the lube, and bag lube sptings
would it be a smart idea to get one of those switch testers
switch testers are more about feel than sound
do you have a local tech store?
sorry for all the questions this is my first time actually doing custom keyboard stuff
sound will change depending on plate, mods and case and keycaps
sound has a lot more to do with the case and mods than individual switches of the same type
theres a microcenter about an hour away from me
i really advise against going all the way down to 60% your first time especially if youre a developer and use the extra keys semifrequently though
Also mounting styles
i wouldnt look any lower than 75% in that case
if you want to see how a switch sounds no, but for feel they could be alr, or you could go to a tech store and just try the display units
you can find compact full size or TKL boards
hmm
1800
i dont rlly use the home cluster at all so that seems viable
You can just get a 60% and a separate numpad
that's a lot more money and work for somebody who's never done this before
i'd just get a keychron c1/2 cause there cheap
if you want a compact but fullsize board like this theyre usually called 96%
compact full size's look so nice
i want a tight-knit TKL like that
i dont like how most TKL boards have unneeded space between key sets
75% is getting pretty popular
everything is there but it doesnt look cramped together
i prefer cramped
it is, I never really saw many people using it till like gmmk and q1 now it seems quite popular
75% is nice but the majority of them have spacing between keys or rotary knobs
a rotary knob is useless to me i use a dacamp
75% is getting old
yea the knob is jsut a novelty I never found them usfull
like fn f12 and 11 work just fine
i want to see more quality cramped TKL boards
that are basically the same size as these larger 75% boards anyway
hhkb >
why is it that 75% boards almost always have insert keys but i havent seen a cramped TKL that has it
ive used pgup/down maybe 4 times in my entire life but use insert every day
it's used to open a lot of gui menus within games
o
namely cheat menus
I think they're just fillers to get a rectangle tbh
peace
I use pg up and down a fair bit tho
ive never used it
and I use home and inspect in some of my games
i use home and insert frequently but not pgup/down
only reason I use it is cause I dont like having to scroll a ton just to get back to the top of a website
ah
exploded 65 much better than exploded 75 tbh
all ur needed keys are in exploded 65
well maybe u dont need pgup and down too much but yea lol
i meant for me
since i dont use f keys much
ah i see
i recommend 75% to most people because there's far fewer quality value TKL options
ah
60%
There are plenty of 60+% options
It's when you hit the barren wasteland that I live in aka 40% that there are frighteningly few options
Esp rgb wise
use a 60% then
Are holy pandas still any good or are they dead trends
depends on preference, but the holy panda x is apparently an improvement
Speaking of holy pandas
I saw something feker holy pandas
Supposedly holy pandas but a bit cheaper
ive heard feker pandas being described as 80% of a holy panda
Those any good?
you can try them out but i can't vouch for their quality as i have not tried them nor do they use the holy panda ingredients
yea feker pandas are basically like 80% close to a holy panda
but feker pandas are slightly higher pitched than holy pandas
goddamn first time filming my switches and its so fricking satisfying for having tight top housings
They also die like incredibly fast
I'm very sure that Feker just doesn't do any QC for their switches
It's like 30$ for a full 120 set you'll deffo have backup switches
Pros: Cheap
Cons: CHEAP
i mean, its cheap so expect it to not last long
the quantity is good enough that your odds of borked switches are low
I had 75% of mine fail within the first 6 months
the percentage i should said
Though they weren't Feker Panda, they were Feker Airy
Like every week they'd have issues registering keypresses
oh dang
So... I have a membrane keyboard rn, I was thinking about getting a razor mechanical keyboard (since I have a razor mouse already, having one program for both would be nice) never used a mechanical keyboard before and don't have a lot to spend, any recommendations?
Razer mechanical keyboards are quite bad, what's your budget and where you live?
They're not
What layout? @random sleet
Whatever full minus numpad is
Tkl
No as in american or UK @random sleet
Uk
Ok so that's like 90% of keyboards off the table lmao
May be able to get a used filco majestouch 2 on eBay
What's different about us layout?
Lao
https://www.amazon.co.uk/TECWARE-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B084RBZJ13/ref=sr_1_1
@random sleet This is the best UK layout keyboard on a budget
The GMMK Outemu hot swap version
I'd say durgod or something but I don't think you can get them for 70 GBP
What's the difference between a uk layout and an american layout?
UK
☝️
@random sleet USA
Basically ANSI and ISO
I'm trying to figure out if I care enough about the difference 🤔
You do
I learned to touch type pretty recently so I'm still flexible enough to switch without any problems
If you learned to touch type then it's extremely important that you stick to what you know lmao
Ic
Lmao
Changing layouts do a number on touch typing
Ok, uk layout it is then
Use the keyless
No idea lol
Clicky, Tactile, or Linear?
I really wish there was a place I could just go and try them out 😣
It's called a store
Ok, from what I'm reading, tactile
I think my freind has linear switches and it felt kinda bad to me so tactile sounds like more my thing
Didn't go out much before covid... covid didn't help that 😅 but yeah, should definitely just go to a shop and try some out
https://www.amazon.co.uk/TECWARE-Phantom-Mechanical-Keyboard-Outemu/dp/B084RBZJ13/ref=sr_1_1
@random sleet this is the tactile one then
smooth linear without noticeable bottom when
the one thing I dislike about mechanical honestly
Isn't this like the Apex Pro?
no idea
The ones I tried had a very low actuation force too, felt super mushy and hard to tell when the key's actually pressed
Go topre then
Thanks for the recommendation @full hull
yea
then theres iso-uk, iso-de, iso-fr and a bunch of other subset that stems from the iso layout
I just use qwerty anyway
never liked how mechanical switches feels like I am tapping on a brick honestly
t o p r e
not an option tho
L
unless I want to be limited to basic black keyboard
about the only reason I even touch custom keyboards
Swapping keyboard layout is annoying I used to use Belgian azerty now I use UK qwerty but probably going to us qwerty tho iso still
Tho might get an ansi board in Alice layout tho I plan on an iso 75% first
Get ortho
Nah 75% wireless iso first. I need a wireless board as my main keyboard is a fullsize iso wired I have a few other cheaper fullsize boards that are also wired and need a compact wireless keyboard
I don't use wireless, I just run a 5 meter cable under carpet and through the heating
just can't turn it on now
unless I want to melt the cable
I need it so I can work in vr and do rapid testing mouse is already wireless
I would like wireless, just sucks it isn't as common
wireless mouse is easy to find
tho I've used Mx master line for a few years now
There are options tho not a lot most boards I find are ansi
For wireless keychron has some iso boards wireless
I most likely will just wait until MX master 4, lol
don't play games much, and they are actually a proper size, tho MX master 3 is great ergonomically, no gaps to be found, and no wrist pain
Yeah Mx master mice are good I always use Logitech mice when I can. They just are the best Vs some other brands
mx master 3's scroll wheel will hurt me in the future
because it is just so nice in comparison
only issue is, it is extremely heavy
but for most uses, doesn't matter
ain't lifting your mouse much unless you actually play games
well, another issue is
discoloration
Idk even for gaming the Mx master 3 is nice it's my daily user and I used to use a g502 before the og g502 but it's just broken over time tried a g502 hero se it's different the Mx master at the same dpi as the og g502 is almost the same Vs the hero g502 it's different
any liquid, fat or whatever just stains it, because it rubber
and it is pretty much glue'd onto the mouse, can slowly peel off
At least you don't use a mice/keyboard from the dumpster. Have to use them at a refurbisher some of them are crap tho work still
no reason to, have enough money to buy anything I need or want (except for like 6000$ PC or smth)
tho honestly, there are some cheap mice that are fairly nice
Annoying when I get an ansi keyboard I miss the enter key always
I wish there were more TKL options
and options that aren't black
white, or some light tint would be nicer
75-80% pretty much
I quite like filco
Not flashy like some of the newer brands but well made and nice to use
Annoying thing being stuck to iso enter gonna get a 75% this year and possibly a Alice style tho in typing I don't care about iso enter just for going into a bios and installer really prefer it. Might get a jis topre board sometime tho
I don't really have any options for keyboards, as I want white + pastel color mostly
fits best with the rest
I found some nice looking iso keycaps on bangood for 40. Will get those when I get my 75% and swap my main keyboard keycaps to the 75%
Not sure on the switches yet I like my box white but probably not getting clicky switches in my 75 tho tactical for sure as when doing productivity I like the bump
Want to try linear switches at some point probably when I get an Alice tho gonna get hotswap on the 75% and alice
nah, just buy 150$ keycaps
Issue is iso and the colour way...
Probably getting this Alice style board https://ymdkey.com/products/gbymdk-wings-aluminum-cnc-top-bottom-qmk-rgb-hotswap-v1-pcb-diy-kit
Package Included New wings case+Hotswap RGB South Facing PCB+Black Clear screw-in stabilizers+Cable+Screws+Aluminum Feets New wings case will support 1u and 2u backspace key,but hotswap wings v1 pcb only support 2u back space key. Case of color can choose from this links,we will add more images of details after GB. Add
But my main keyboard is iso I know I can get used to ansi getting a bit used as have one ansi and want to get used to it but iso is just nice
first time filming switches even if ive built a few keyboards now, not sure what kind of difference there is to an unfilmed switch
but i kinda think its unifying the sound of the switch because it removes the top housing wobble noise and stuff but idk
correct me if im wrong
yea but what are its benefits
¯_(ツ)_/¯
probably not much
at least compared to many other things you could do
but you would open the switches either way to do those other things, so might as well
yea i think acoustically wont do much lol
but it is satisfying comparing thr top housing wobble of an unfilmed switch to a filmed one lmao
what is insert used for ... I don't think I've ever used it in 30 years of typing ...
yea
what keyboard should i buy, my budget is 120$
what layout?>
full size, tkl, 65%, ect
I have a ducky one 2 mini, love it
reduces top housing wobble
and switch wobble
to the swich wont wobble on the pcb
so
anyone got recommendations for some brown/brown-like switches?
no because brown switches are a curse on humanity
there are good tactile switches and there are browns
I would recommend the Kailh Box Royal
Or the Boba U4/U4T
Akko lavender purple
Best tactile for the price
If you want to pay more go for what is recommended above
Boba u4/u4t are premium
Cherry is a good brand
I'm looking for some Blacks or Super Blacks. are there any non cherry brands that make those?
blacks are linears btw
I'm gonna have to disagree but if all you want is browns ig it alr
any clicky switches with the weight of blacks?
Gateron Green
anything heavier?
Kailh Box Navy
tf is that, a sparker
if that's what you call it
Hello! So I've recently been thinking about going to a new keyboard from my razer blackwidow ultimate (mainly because the spacebar has no stabilizer, the t key double clicks sometimes and because the d key doesn't register half the time).
And I found the ZET GAMING Edge Optical with Keith black switches.
Is this a good option?
How much is that keyboard?
6k rub
It's not Keith, It's kailh btw
You don't have access to say Tecware Phantoms? @thin roost
nope
Actually @thin roost how much is the non optical version?
It should come with Kailh Box Switches
Those are MUCH better in terms of longetivity
same price
how is it better?
The switches are better than optical
yeah but how
The switches last basically forever
and also have IP56 rating
and are pretty good stock
at least better than Cherry imo
should i go for gateron or keith?
It's their best lineup after all
both red
Up to you I'd say whatever is cheaper
same price
I personally prefer Kailh Box Red stock
Just go Kailh Box then imo
working on the workman layout
well its really hard lol
in my case, I am limited by my hands, not by the layout
coming from an avg of 90 wpm on qwerty
120-150 here
but my hands hurt if I were to type at 150wpm
110-125 more consistently
but this layout is actually so good
could probably get higher WPM, if I weren't using just 7 finger to type
i have minimal hand movement compared to qwerty
im a 7 finger typer too
I twist my hands a lot, at least it helps with wrist pain
my left thumb ends up doing both space and U for example
helps a bit with longer times, just because I never end up sitting still
this is probably going to take months but im committed
be like me, and just don't bother after 30 minutes
how'd ur thumb go to U lmao
twist the wrist
nah i really wakt to learn this layout
ill still use qwerty if i need fast typing
I can get fairly consistent burst speed on type tests mostly
but outside of that, usually a bit lower
I don’t even use a chair
i got a logitech g213 prodigy, but most letters double type or just dont type at all, is it just a bad keyboard or could i have got a faulty one?
Both
It's oem so they're all pretty bad but I would assume it's mainly faulty
It should at least function properly
Indeed
yeah i had a 20 quid cheap mechanical keyboard that was better than this
Like not registering key is not supposed to be a feature
Who is good to buy lubed banana splits from
well someone that has good ratings lmao
Lube it yourself, also banana split is pretty ass
Im 2 lazy
it really doesnt take long
I dont wanna buy expensive switches and then fuck them up bc I over lubed them
I heard I think it was durok? has a decent preplube but im not sure
its hard to do that, and you can just wipe the lube off. . .
Nah
wdym nah, unless your dumping your whole brush with lube I wouldnt worry about over lubing
Looking for keycap recommendations, not looking for quality or sound, just want some creative/funny individual keycaps
Gmk knockoffs
Or like anything on aliexpress.com
Who tryna spend 300 on some keycaps
I do
I dont
