sounds like you accidentally engage a layout on your keyboard
if you can devote the time hand lubing is MUCH better for anything but springs
you can be more consistent and your switches dont end up completely coated in lube
only true for grease
although who in their right mind would think bag lubing with grease would work out
samsung smart keyboard trio 500 vs logitech k380, I can't decide which I like, I'll be using either with my Phone, tab s7+ for like study work while on the train, and the odd time at night at work when it's quiet
im pretty sure this channel is for mechanical keyboards
watch taeha types's video on lubing switches
is mk 61 better than gk 61 i want the less lateency one
well both will have the same latency ngl
so choose one that you like the most
as opposed to linear clickies?
actually that would be hell
is there a mechanism that generate the click but without the tactility?
the same story
we dont like royal kludge here
Then why do they have diff names
is there really anything that can affect the latency of a keyboard besides polling rate?
rk is fine but its not a fantastic option
cables i guess?
connection method plus quality of the components
pcb, chips, cable etc
size?
size ehhhh
no i was asking aqua
personally i like the glorious gmmk
kinda but not really
like the shape and form factor is the same
but the rk61 is soldered, the gk61 has many version (optical and hotswap switches)
and then the mk61 is just optical
gk61 is also a kit but don't get it
i used to have a hotswap rk61
rk61 hotswap is like the thing that rk sell whenever they feel like selling it or smt
nah i put rose reds in it
are trash pandas any good
i heard they had some quality issues at one point but idk about the more recent ones
im surprised theyre still being made
ehhh
i probably wouldnt get trash pandas unless u were making holy pandas ig
my thoughts tho
theyre kinda heavy
but they do feel great
how heavy?
70g operating
70g
bottom out is 80 i think so yeah
its funny i game with tactiles and type with linears
black ink v2s if youre interested
i kind of like to type with tactiles but i want linears for gaming
even as a clack guy i think black inks sound great
so imma get those later
oop
mmmmmmmnah
just buy off of aliexpress or taobao
i dont need amazing i just need normal looking
it was literally printed upside down
the gmmk has weird breaks in characters and stuff
i just dont want to group order and wait two years for keycaps
gmk are lucky they have a whole community of copers waiting in line
i bought an infinikey set on ebay for 230 euros
my friend ordered $120 gmk keycaps and has been waiting two years and the expected delivery is still q2 2022
ugh
because the batch was rejected by quality control
huh
wait you can get pom jelly on amazon
did people even use those
question mark
sorry dz60 no question mark
Anyone know if these caps would fit my SteelSeries Apex 7? https://hyperx.com/collections/accessories/products/hyperx-pudding-keycaps-pbt-full-key-set
yeah i put puddings on an apex pro you should be fine
is there any type of mounting that wouldnt fit on the gmmk
im still pretty new to the keyboard stuff
Anyone know of any sites for buying like custom keycaps? I'm new to all of this keycap stuff myself.
But I think I'd like some custom keys for certain ones.
Switches
uhh well gmmk is 5pin so you should be fine
etsy (surprisingly), kprepublic, carousell, drop.com i guess
they have stuff like character/keycaps you think?
Sounds weird I don't know how to explain it I seen like some character keycaps
like this?
no, sec I'll try and find a pic
k
ah
artisan keycaps
you can find some cool ones on etsy or jellykey
Does pcb vs plate mounting or anything like that matter
well
@dull compass ty!
np
i wouldnt go plateless
maybe with 5pin
but yea no
I mean platemount can be more durable with a good plate you can eliminate flex
stabs are annoying the first time
so of its your first build id get preassembled ones
or just come here lmao
?
Buy topre, you wont have to worry about keycaps, case or switches
if you're modding stabs why would you get preassembled
Mx is just cope until you get into vints or topre
just saying if its your first build its easier
@pallid trout never noticed how uneven my mousepad is until now lol
mine shifts soooooo often
Lol I’m bringing back the keycaps I bought. I wonder if the return employee is gonna be pissed seeing them like this.
well glad to see you got new ones
is the ducky one 3 mini a good keyboard?
Nuphy air 75
for what
its pretty good for the price the build quality is ok
Wow that’s pretty insane, right?
Nice!
Anyone know if it’s possible to purchase Varmilo EC Ivy V2 switches? I’ve tried keyboards with them and love them, but I’d like to use them in a custom build
looks like a varmilo special, cause they dont sell single switches on the market
Opinion on Corsair k100?
cool switch performance but overpriced af
Big oof, guess I'll have to go through the oh so lovely process of buying a prebuilt and desoldering the switches :/...gotta get that Shinobi, no real competition for that guy
Tips on a good gaming keyboard
Get something not from a gaming brand ...
get something that feels good to you
and generally speaking avoid gaming brands cause they are not good price to performance products
Agreed with others, my best advice is to try anything you can with your own hands to get a feel for what you want. If you have stores near you with options, you can start there and keep trying stuff until you get exactly what you're looking for. You can often also order individual switches and the like to try, so that can also help narrow things down
Are there any relatively cheap prebuilt keyboards that you can use 5 pin switches in
If not how frowned upon is it to cut pins off of 5 pin switches and make them 3 pin
Rate my Keyboard. Gateron ink black v2, brass backplate, hotswap pcb, kbd75
ayy not bad 🙂
Any good keyboard reccomendations?
30 usd max
rk61
that's a nice profile, tkl without any wasted space
with blue switches, you will get a tactile feedback and an audible click sound midway down the keystroke
theres none of that on red
brown is blue but no auditory feedback and the tactility level is noticeably weaker
black is red but harder to press down
ok, i currently have one of the "mechanical feel" keyboards
what is similar to that
So far i think I might go with a blue
what keyboard do you have exactly?
My man there are so many more options than that, check out MechanicalKeyboards.com for the more mainstream options you can go buy in a physical retail store organized neatly, but there’s way more than that for more enthusiast peeps that wanna custom build stuff
yea i have no idea then
but considering most of em are rubber dome with more tactility than the cheapest rubber dome
prob switches with the tactility of mx brown would be the most similar in feel to what you currently have?
ok, Thanks
this decent?
ehhh
i would aim for the hexgears gk707 at least
link?
HEXGEARS is specialized in the construction and layout of e-sport industry chain, in the R&D, design and sales of high-end e-sport peripherals such as mechanical keyboard, mouse, earphone and so on, in the development and introduction of software and so on.It also commits itself to providing time...
wait thats clicky tho
very light clicky switch
box white
ah, very expensive though
HEXGEARS is specialized in the construction and layout of e-sport industry chain, in the R&D, design and sales of high-end e-sport peripherals such as mechanical keyboard, mouse, earphone and so on, in the development and introduction of software and so on.It also commits itself to providing time...
really
54 right?
tkl?
Well box white are really good tho ... prefer them over any blue
tenkeyless keyboard
ah
full size with the numpad chopped off
Just finished my nk65 this thing is amazing
short key travel is good imo
Well check on amazon for slim keyboard and you'll have plenty of those
thanks!
so like scissor switch keyboard style
the only thing you can get with that style i believe is the apple magic
Hp have some too
Corsair makes a low profile keyboard with cherry mx witches
And so does Dell
Logitech has some lp ones too but there very expensive
And also some noname brands
mx is not low profile switches tho
well
low profile compare to the stuff predates the cherry mx, sure
I actually have this board it sucks ass
https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Gaming-Keyboards/RGB-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboards/K70-RGB-MK-2-Low-Profile/p/CH-9109017-NA
a lot of the lp ones have mice lol, Im prolly gonna go with one of those or the $25 one i found
looks like its good quality though
Lowest profile mechanical I know are the kailh shock switches and some others that looks like them ...
You can find them cheep on amazon
oh yea
low profile mx mount are shit
so bad
do you guys care about mice or keyboards more?
Both
which one more?
None
If you mean for gaming then mouse
ok
If you mean for typing then keyboard
right now its my mouse cause the scroll wheel wears out and its binding
looking for a scroll wheel replacement, but it seems impossible
ah that sucks, I really recommend the G502 Wired
Unless you play osu then keyboard for sure
it has good functionality w/ good build quality. and doesn't have another 100 useless keys on the side
i mean thats the disadvantage of how my mouse generate the step feel with the scroll wheel
the scroll wheel is made out of rubber, and the dpi change button grinds on the rubber groove to create that feel
That's some kind of design flaw ?
Ah that sucks
I've gone through lots of both finding what I want
I'm not done trying to find what I want
what are your top picks? @limber dove
thats cost cutting
g102/203 is like 20 usd a piece
they could just let the scroll encoder to create that step feel
but i digress
Strange ... it's about the same as the 305 ... haven't had that issue with the 305 ... the wheel is hard to press tho and sometimes one scroll don't register and sometimes it registers 2 times... but that's about the only problem I've had with it
And it's not that often
i mean, the g305 uses the same shroud like the g203 and the g pro wired
im not gonna be surprised when the dpi button also grinds on the scroll wheel as well for that step feel
I should check that
i think you can see the wear on the scroll wheel right now ngl
tho the problem you described sounds like a dying scroll encoder and not the wheel being worn out
It was like that brand new tho
huh
Aight i gtg to play cod, thanks for they help guys!
then theres something wrong with the pcb or something
brand new scroll wheel doesnt have any wear obv
Might be ... I don't use it that often anyway ... I use the mm710 for now
Maybe some off adjustment of the scroll vs the encoder
u play osu for sure
Hi question does polling rate affect overall response time of a keyboard? Like lets say you brought a huntsman mini with a switch latency of 0.2ms but it has a 1000Hz polling rate, does that mean the mini is stuck at 1ms overall latency
So what is a cheap but decent keyboard with multimedia keys?
whats the best switch for mechanical keyboards
theres no such things, its all up to your preference
okaay i guess

My first build. I’m in love with it.
Looks nice
Looks like a keyboard
I like the layout ...
65% layout
It is just a keyboard, but it's a keyboard I put 10 hours into making
thats because I'm a noob, not because it's like super nice. its a budget build
Should I get a gaming keyboard or make my own? The budget is max $150. Can I make something good with that budget?
depends on the layout
You can get a decent hot-swap board for around that price. That would let you be able to change out switches when you want
say tkl
tenkeyless you can def make your own
are those cheap
k2 is squished 75%, c1 is tenkeyless
ive seen stuff saying that k2 is hit or miss
cause it is
quality control issues and uncomfortably thick
Im a laptop boy so I want something to throw on my desk
also, if you know how to solder you could also get a stacked series board
from cannonkeys
no soldering
Thats going to be an upcoming purchase for me
im not getting one just yet
what is?
CannonKeys practice 75
65% but with no small keys on the bottom row ...
Oh true. I got a novelties set just in case, but I did not know that when I bought it
wait what board is that anyway
this is my life too
- FUCK
Those Obliterated are nice
- damn lucky
well i promised myself id get a stacked75 if i was unable to get an obliterated
so i'm not too angry ig
still waiting for the keychron Q2 to replace my durgod fusion
f keys are very important
this is my first go on it. switching from a tkl
I never use F keys
so you can accidentally hit alt f4 mid game
very important
instead of hittimg alt f 3 to check my fps i always hit f4 lol
also the F keys are still there on the second layer
Yeah the layering stuff is cool
i bind rina tuner to ctrl + shift + O
I've only been looking at them for about a month but i fell in love with the Mammoth 75
No idea of it's quality, but it says hotswap and I found it on a Switch&Click article
tecware makes decent stuff
i think you can program what it does in qmk
you can
not sure what it does stock
hm there are so many boards
I've seen people who do a lot of video editing say it works for them
something about scrubbing and color accuracy blah blah
I don't see any useful thing to do with that ...
i just want beautiful, good sound, but most importantly, reliablility
if i got a mammoth75 id only use the knob for volume control
same lol
I want a sexy panzer for a keyboard pretty much
i prefer dedicated media control :)
which is why im maining a modded corsair k65 lux rn
I don't need media control on my keyboard ...
i'm looking hard for a macro pad that has the knob on it. literally for no other reason than i think it's col
kbdfans is a start
In my brief time i have shopped from many many places
I'll get the Q2 without knob
https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/ check this list for vendors in your country
good list there
nice
everywhere seems kinda sketch ngl lol
I felt that way at first too but they all have discords pretty much which made me feel better
so what would i want to do to my keyboard to make it better. Say if I got the c1
lube, and maybe switch changes
here when it's not free shipping it usually kills the deal ...
lubing my switches was the biggest difference for me. it makes such a difference to the sound and feel. I will never go back to unlubed I dont think
well i still have crusty hp 2009 membrane boi
I did do the mod where you put tape under your stablizers, but the kit came with those
i dont use of course now I have laptop
do people sell Ultra Low profile keycaps?
tbf the bobas im using in my corsair are so good they dont need to be hand lubed
oop
I've heard that..... so i ordered some!
lowest I've seen with cherry mount is some dsa profile ...
like
bobas are obvs better hand lubed but it doesnt affect the smoothness much
only sound
and you're supposed to donut dip the springs but stock theyre fine
i ordered some bobas, holy pandas, and some owl lab tungstens because i went on a bit of a spree one night
theyre on teh way too lol
and im so tempted to get those and halo trues
i dipped a toe into the mystery keys
to make og holy pandas
and i saw the trash pandas on sale. couldn't resist
They need lube, for sure
I haven't tried them out too much yet, but they do feel okay. I just don't like the sound right now
yeah I wanted to get the mystery switches ... but when you add shipping and exchange rate it gets really expensive ... for that kind of money I should just get some akko switches from amazon instead
are penyus still on sale?
those sound incredible and i want them
...being that i'm a fan of BCPs
that sounds like a nice switch for sure
idk how well they compare to something like
ink blacks
but i just hope they feel nice
there's dsa profile, and theres also kailh choc
dsa is mx, kailh choc is kailh choc
how low you go depends on your dedication and price.
oh my goodness, so many things I don't understand
just tryna get myself a costum keycaps for Redragon K614
just get dsa
dsa profile keycaps*
Is it compatible with my keyboard?
Idk what style do u mean by MX
Is it the + thingy?
yea
that + keycap mount is the defining characteristic of mx style switches
tho the image above is just a categorization of all cherry mx offerings
ah
that thing is stem stabilization that some manufacture implemented to reduce stem and keycap wobbling
Oh ok
since the mx keycap mount only needs the cross section
just as long as whatever the heck you add on the stem doesnt surpass the height of the keycap mount, you would be fine
is there anyone with RK61 keyboard pls DM me asap
What do you think I could sell my old huntsman for
It has those clicky optical switches that are nice and annoying
I might buy a gmmk pro instead of cut these pins off
is it the huntsman te or the normal huntsman elite?
Id guess around 80 bucks you could get, depending on how clean it is. Dont quote me on that tho, I dont really know alot about razer keyboards
Not an elite just a normal full size
It's in really good shape because I really only used it for a year before going to a gmmk
Also keep in mind the gmmk pro is a kit where you dont get switches and keycaps, just to be sure you know
My black inks that Ill be using for frankens with nk cream stem will arrive tomorrow
Im hyped
The reason i want to get the gmmk pro is because I need a 5 pin keyboard
blade65 will only arrive in march tho sadge
I don't want to cut pins off
Take a look at keychron's Q-series as well then
Similar board, but often cheaper
And is 5-pin as well
This maybe obvious but I would need a desoldering gun to separate the plate from the pcb, right?
and to also take out the switch and stabilizers?
Which keyboard is this ?
Victsing Tkl Mechanical Keyboard RGB
Then I would say yeah most likely you have to desolder unless they come with outemu hotswap socket but that would be surprising
yeah, rn i trying to find a switch puller/keycap puller
imma try to mod this keyboard over time
Check on amazon ... you can find that for cheap
how muhc should i max pay for one?
no idea ... paid my wire switch puller under 10$ cad
k then
also, do you think the foam mod is a good start?
I just bought some on amazon, let me get the links
depend if you think it sounds hollow or has too much reverb
I'm not a sound chaser so I don't really care ...
people say that the gmmk sound awful but I think it sounds good so ...
I don't care much about sound unless there's spring ping or rattle ... therefore why I don't like click jacket switches
For someone that switched from ISO to ANSI, how well did you adapt to longer enter and shift key?
I've been using ISO for my whole life, my hands posture would make me press backslash key if I were to switch to this
about 2 minutes
and can't go back to a short left shift anymore
cause that fkng stupid annoying key always gets in the way
best layout would be big ass iso enter key but with the long left shift cause I always use the left shift
I havent made a switch from iso to ansi, but i have made much larger ones (standard to split ergo, qwerty to a different layout) and I can tell you you will likely adapt quite fast
What is the best 100% keyboard with numbpad I can get for 65
well all 100% keyboards have a numpad, so thats a given
however assuming you mean usd the tecware phantom is good under your budget, if you can stretch it a little more the keychron c2 is better in every way for $70
UK but I think its relatively similar
then the c2 might be in your budget
yes, wireless adds cost and complexity, which mean necessary sacrifices especially at this pricepoint
if you want wireless im sure there are options, i just dont know of any good choices off the top of my head
100% wireless at that budget is... tough
especially if you want it with decent latency
anybody have recommendations for some good budget 75% and 100% mechanical keyboards?
wireless is preferred but wired is fine too
i dont need it for gaming, its mostly for general use, and the occasional minecraft
because ill be docking my laptop and using a monitor
How much better do all perform in games with a keyboard of your choice versus having a regular manufactured keyboard?
Like does having a certain type of keyboard help perform better or is it just more of a preference since its just a keyboard??
there is practically no difference tho some may argue that faster switches are better
it really depends on your feel with a particular switch
cause if you got used to and in the flow with a particular board, you can go fast as fuck on something like the run of the mill corsair rgb puke
with that in mind, faster switch is not better unless you really got used to it
I'm still not use to my new keyboard and ive had it for at least 3 months now.
How long does it take to get use to something?? Is my brain slow at learning??
I mean i can type up to 80 wpm on it, but using the backspace i tend to hit then \| instead
i think i will try my luck on a entirely 3D printed keyboard. a guy ive met on discord released some quite intresting 3D printed switch design on github.
I'm interested to hear how that goes
Any way I could get you to send me that in DMs?
I might try that but with a macropad or something
cant send you a DM
but i guess sending the link for the github here should be fine
It's probably fine
he plans to sell PCBs for entire keyboards, but thats still in planning
Now I have a reason to try to get my 3d printer working again
you will have to tune the printer quite well, since you deal there with quite tight tolerances
Might just go to a makerspace to do that then
Kinda forgot to mention that the switches are configurable.
It doesn't
Keyboard is always preference ...
Don't believe gaming marketing bullshit like that keyboard is faster with 37% more kill and such shit
Get something you feel comfortable with and that's about it
i mean you shoot with your mouse so really the keyboard shouldn't matter
tactile switches do make a difference to typing speed though
because your fingers feel the tactile bump and know they can move on to another key before you actually see the letters appear on the screen
you can do the same with linears if your muscle memory is good
You can do the same with linear
yeah with linear you could just get a low force key and the tactile feeling is from the key bottoming out i guess
Also tactile bump often is not the actuation point anyway
it should be just at the end of the bump
You can do that with blacks ...
The actuation point is not always as the end of the bump
what's the point of the bump then? those sound like bad switches lol
And for some clickies it's sometimes before the tactile event
idk i only have my own browns to compare, seems the activation is just at the end of the bump
Cherry brown ...
my only problem with linear is getting multiple activations because there's no bump separating on/off
tactiles actuate at the peak of the bump fyi
but maybe that's just from bad switches with not enough hysteresis
Not all tactiles are the same tho
and yet that feature still stands
oh wait no linears have hysteresis
unless optical because internally those are analog
yes
but over time you start to get multiple activations on optical switches too in my experience
Pretty sure not all tactile actuate at the bump
it still operates right at the end of the bump
yeah that's what i thought, it's at the end of the bump
huh i must've gotten my facts wrong then mb
which one is that?
speed copper?
that does look great, tactile bump right at the top
gold is interesting too
Yes kailh speed copper
keychron q1?
does it support most polpular switches?
like glorious pandas
yep
gmmk yes
pro not?
pro is good, non pro is meh for price
I wish there was a full sized pro
I want a keyboard that supports 5 pin switches but is also full sized
At the gmmk pro price
i guess theres the akko mod003
its 1800 and not really true full size tho
you can always clip the 2 pins off, you cant return the switches then but they still work
the new asus keyboard
but dont know if it released yet
Todays challenge - will I get pissed off with this red switch keyboard enough to overcome my laziness and get another keyboard
which one? I want a rog claymore II.
dont know the name but its like a custom keyboard
with foammod
and a hotswappable option
Proof that red switches are junk and mnobody wants them
surprised
liniar switches are so nice
i currently have gateron blues
and i want to switch to a glorious panda or kailh
red switches are fine
at this point i prefer outemu reds to gat yellows
Would say blue switches are bad vs other switches and I like my clicky switches atm using box white
Red switches just... Ugh. Do not want.
Although I can't actually find an Australian retailer selling blues, so they may not have even bought any in the country
fairly
and probably
does anybody have a schematic of the gmmk full size
i want a full size keyboard that supports 5 pin switches but that isnt really available so i thought if i could get a pcb schematic for the gmmk i could see if it was possible to punch the extra holes necessary for 5 pin switches
and if the pcb is easy to remove get one printed and swap it
no, maybe don't do that
get something like a keychron C2
yes but drilling holes in PCBs is never a good idea
i was saying put the holes in the schematic and get a new pcb printed
oh, ok
misunderstood that
would still be a better idea to get a keychron C2
or an akko mod003 if you have more budget
it isnt full size though
nope
but as I said, the akko mod 003 is pretty good I think
just more expensive
@dire mist why do you want 5 pin lol
It’d make sense if using a half plate, but it doesn’t seem like you are
Just clip the legs off of the 5 pin switches and they’ll work fine lol
I got black inks but don't want to to cut the extra pins off
Like what if I don't like them
Or I mess up
Or one is faulty
I guarantee it’s impossible to mess up cutting little plastic pins off
Iirc they’re just boring linears - if you’ve ever used another linear switch you should have a decent idea of whether you like it or not
If it’s too heavy etc you can mod them
Usually faulty switches will have obvious damage to the leaf in my experience
And I’ve only had that happen with old switches, nearly everything brand new is good
You bought straight from novelkeys? I guarantee they won’t require you send back a single dead switch lol
i want to buy a custom key board where should i get it from
How much do you got
If you have about 100usd to 150, you should try akko mod series. Akko made some fine kits for newbies. I got mod001 for my first custom keyboard.
akkos pretty great nk and keychron have decent options, if you have more money you could get kbd67
My boss also is a player, he suggested me akko. He also helped me modding plate from tray mount to gasket mount.
corne case arrives tomorrow im hype
Ok
Total player
Ye, i think he's a player, he has like 20 keyboards. Even the pre-build ones that he spent time removing every single soldered switch. He have a modded k100, and he did it all by himself. He has real passion with mech key you know
I used pre-build a keyboard, a fuhlen subverter. When it's dead, my boss told me to try modding a keyboard, it's a fun experience that i think everyone should try once
do you have to buy the switches seprate?
Yes, i buy gateron yellow
key caps are 60$
I know, but if you buy abs, it's only 20 bucks
But abs keycaps are not long lasting, you can buy pbt double shot after abs is blurred
you can get keycaps that're 60 bucks PER CAP.
or more, if you look around
You can get good pbt caps for $25-45
my " and @ are mapped to each other, how do I fix this?
all the others work fine
nevermind the hastag is now a £ as well
I dont know where to find it
I have ¬ this instead of accent grave, " swapped with @ and £ instead of a hastag, what language is this and how do I change it?
nevermind, my windows automatically changed it along with display language, I set it to UK English, and it thought maybe I wanted to have UK board inputs aswell, whoops
Widows always does some shit like that
what are y'all's favorite gasketed keyboards? any cool group buys to hop on right now?
I don't have any gasket mount keyboard
thoughts on Gateron Brown switches?
i have them in my Keychron K8
Q1, such an insane value
ofc it needs mods to sound and feel decent but compared to gmmk pro, a competitor, it needs way less
glad I don't care about sound
good lol
a lot of us are obsessed with it.
less work and I enjoy stuff more easily
unless it's rattle or ping ... then I try to fix it
for me it's like
yeah idrc how my board sounds either, i just want my stabs to sound and feel acceptable
mostly yes
but I still can say that the best sounding switches I have are the gateron yellow for now ...
and the best sounding board I have is the durgod fusion with sadly cherry brown
cherry browns, as much as theyre memed on
but I won't put any efforts to change the sound and such
yeah feeling of cherry brown is quite meh
one thing id like to try
brown stem or clear stem in blue housing.
i reckon itd be quite nice tbf. blues apparently have the most tactile leafs out of p much any cherry afaik
i just go with lavender purple if I want more tactility
I recently got some tangerines and they were honestly life changing? they just feel so perfect.
what did you have prior?
I used cherry browns for many years then mx reds and then mx speeds
the mx speeds were nice but too easy to actuate. the tangerines feel luxurious compared to a red
they were a potentially expensive gateway drug for me :p
i should try jwicks tbh, apparently theyre like 85% of the smoothness of a tangie but at a cheap price
i'm indifferent about tactiles or linears
i like a smooth linear but a good tactile is nice too
I need the tactile bump
apparently kiwis use the same stem as durock t1s
so you're essentially paying extra for a slightly better sound
durock t1 are also quite expensive ... about the same as kiwi here
what country?
canada
ooof.
it's all around 100$ for 90 to 110 switches once you add the shipping, taxes and import fees
within 20$ last I checked yes
same for the boba u4t
which are those I would get if I wanted to spend 100$ ± 20$ on switches
man i spent £55 on 90 boba u4ts when i restored my k65 lux earlier
so $95 cad
i feel ripped off
from aliexpress it's 93 $ for 110 boba u4t
yeah, i paid ~100 us for a board worth of lubed and filmed tangerines. still probably the best keyboard money i've spent?
they're in a portico right now and feel great, i just want the board to look and feel more "premium" even if that's dumb
will probably grab a q1 or q2
i do like a lot of "gamery" features though. supposedly the logitech g pro x is hot swappable and standard 5 pin
I'm supposed to get the Q2 when it comes out
the open buy for the q2 is tomorrow so i'll probably try and snag one
you're supposed to?
who's making you buy it
what are some 50$-75$ preferably full size but size dosent matter, keyboard kits with a knob that arent trash?
Yeah still trying to decide if it's worth it or not
that's a hard question
tm680 is budget and has a knob but
65% layout
is it the tm680 a decent kit tho
oh well then....Have you heard anything about akko's full sized keyboards and if they are good?
akko mod 004 is a solid deal
but its a tray mount board so your comfort might vary
mod 003 is great too but rn it's out of stock
if you know how to solder just go with cannonkeys stacked
what about the already prebuilt ones like the ones with switches and keycaps already in them
decent
alright one last question does the same go for the 3068b?
I mean I asked them and they said that they are going to realease a year of the tiger edition for 90$~ should I go for that or do you have any other prebuilt recommendations
not sure, don't know much about prebuilts but those seem fine
its about what id pay for a prebuilt hotswap 65%
the 1800 layout board seems like a far better deal though
like the 109$ one?
yeah
I will keep that in mind and proceed to ask the dumbest question ever....thoughts on the logitech g pro league of legends edition
I have a g pro that I used before going custom mech, it's a good board but you have to like logitech switches obviously which can be a lil hit or miss
the software and lighting is really nice, uses non standard keycaps but works well if you want to use it stock
trying to track down a g pro x so i can try and get that feature set with tangerines :3
but then you'd have tinted rgb
which doesnt sound that amazing ngl
thats an oddly specific switch to want to buy
yeah
is there any reason why you couldn't do it yourself?
too much work
true, but i mostly use solid pink or purple in my setup and it's not terribly hard to correct to one color
you could probably hire a service off r/mechmarket to do it for you
but id recommend just doing it yourself honestly
people lube switches differently, and you might not like the consistency at which someone might lube it
@lament crypt
when you do it yourself its much easier to redo it to get the consistency you like
and cheaper
Who pinged
If you want to know more about 3D printed switches/keycaps/keyboards I'm the guy behind all that stuff 😄
That was me, I just replied to your earlier message and included a gif which got removed 🤷♂️
Aside: It would be nice if Discord's automoderation features didn't remove the entire message and instead could remove just the offending link from the message. SIgh. I typed up a long thing with lots of details then by the time I noticed it was removed I forgot what I wrote! Up arrow didn't work 😦
Anyway, I'm currently working on a bunch of tutorials on how to design your analog keyboard PCB in Kicad 6. Other folks are working on ways to make keyboards using my Void Switches without the PCB too 👍
I type on my analog hall effect key switches all day every day 🙂
doubt it's discord
I'm pretty sure it's a limitation of Discord... I used to moderate the Keycap Designer's Discord (it doesn't exist anymore, sigh) and we talked about this same sort of problem before... Not having the ability to just X-out/remove links or images in a message. We had to remove the whole message
Would argue it's not a limitation. I'd rather have it
Yeah, it's better than nothing for sure. But we shouldn't be discussing that here.
Oh that's sick
As I'm trying to mess with that stuff I'm sure I'll have more questions but right now my printer isn't operational and my makerspace is closed to college students and staff only because of covid
I just got the Logitech g613 it's a good mechanical keyboard but has one flaw that sometimes bothers me
that being?
the keyboard switches sound like there echoing on the inside.
That can be fixed with foam inserts (or bandaids) but it can be a lot of work
My key switches don't have that problem but I did try inserting some fabric between the top plate and the PCB and that dampened the sound of the keyboard a bit. Not as much as I thought it would though. Needs more experimentation with different kinds of fabrics/foam.
With a traditional mechanical keyboard you can do something similar by putting little bits of foam/bandaid material inside the switch housings or just generally inside the keyboard case.
I looking to replace the keyboard anyway. the switches are to quite for me
Too quiet? Haha. Not the type of complaint you usually hear about keyboards
You could attach relays to your keyboard to take the clicking sound to the extreme like I did a while back haha: https://youtu.be/6hMOGKTudcg
Keyboard: Custom Riskeyboard 70 analog hall effect with custom 3D printed magnetic separation switches (Void Switches), custom 3D printed magnetically-stabilized stabilizers, custom 3D printed case and top plate, custom 3D printed keycaps (made using my Keycap Playground), custom PCB (from scratch), custom firmware (written in Rust from scratch)...
I am looking to build this keyboard beam spring + click solenoid
I am looking for a keyboard around 86 db
Beam spring with solenoids? That's serious!
yea its seriously loud
You going to use actual IBM beam spring switches or just something similar (e.g. Input Club Silo switches)?
actual IBM beam spring switches
Which keyboard is more worth it the ACR 98 or a 3098B variant (both from akko)
I built a keyboard recently and everything sounds good apart from both shift keys where I’ve bought new stabilizers and tried new switches but whatever I try it just sounds so dampened with absoloutly no click can someone help
owie. that's so loud
how does it sound without any post processing, recording equipment or anything? like from a distance
@eternal wraith do you know?
did you holee mod it lmfao
i gave a gpro x keyboard and i bought red switches for it because they where loud it said it was hot swappable but i took out the switch and it got shredded
thats what it looks like help pls
I think you just need a switch puller. the top half of the switch came off
They are cheap on amazon. like $10 for a 2-pack
easy fix
it doesn't look destroyed, and the website says it comes with a switch puller
if you destroyed the switch, nbd you were gonna replace anyways
i bought the wrong one thought i bought the gpro x but i bought the gpro its not hotswapable
i cant get a refund
ive spent too much money in this company
Pretty damned loud and clicky, haha.
If the switch isn't destroyed you can still put it back together. That is still easy
jesus.
I typed on it for two whole days straight and my wife could hear it on the other side of the house. It wasn't deafening though. Just the sort of sound that you can hear from pretty far away haha
i wonder how it compares to something like an actual typewriter.
if you reeally want a cheap hotswap, that is guaranteed to be hotswap, try this one out though @cinder zephyr Tecware Phantom 87 Key Mechanical Keyboard Currently $46 on Amazon (plus RGB for more FPS)
ok i will see what i can get i guess
That one was Switch & Click's budget pick, so it should be decent
I like the pruple and green one myself, but its a cool keeb
I haven’t seen the other colors but that one looks nice
Desolder + solder a new switch. Ez pz. Linus just did this on his wife's board. Might only be on floatplane right now though....
I am stuck between two keyboards right now don't know what Keyboard to buy
which ones?
Keychron K2 or Keychron K3 Ultra-slim
explain why you'd like one or the other
I like both not sure witch one is better for long term use
i think both would be quite good
I am using it for class mainly typeing
imo i wouldnt go for k3 since i kinda hate low profile switches
neither are hotswap
hmm
probably k3, since it looks like it'd make less noise
idk how much you like the keycap profile tho
I am rocking the blue switches and noice is somthing I don't care about
is the razer synapse software as bad as people say it is?
it ok some people make it sound worse then what it is
idk if this is the right place to ask for it, but would you recommend the Razer Basilisk Ultimate HyperSpeed?
yeah the price is a bit high, what do you think of the hyperx pulsefire dart?
for the price it's really good
have you got any ergonomic wireless mice recommendations? sorry for asking a lot...
I run a mx master 1 and it's my fav gaming mouse
I restored a free keyboard someone was giving away
Here’s a before and after
Don’t even know what model it is but it’s cooler master
Oh it runs super well. I’m unsure what type of switches this keyboard has
But thanks - took like an hour to clean all the key caps and run a vacuum on the board
That thing was nasty lol. I love how tactile it is
nice
Typewriters can sound like machine guns when they get going
Mine does
Though mine is electric
About halfway in it goes full machinegun mode
Yeah I have a smith corona word processor and it's a lot of fun to hit the print button
First stuff I typed was on a mechanical typewriter...
That key travel... the clacking sound
And then it was a model m equivalent with out first computer
Buckling spring were really quiet compared to that typewriter we had
Not surprised, tbh. Whilst some cite buckling springs as being modelled to replace typewriters (in fact, buckling spring typewriters are a thing), that's not really correct. The closest to something like that would be IBM's beam spring switches from the '70s, although keyboards that had these largely relied on solenoids inside to make more noise.
And before beam springs, IBM's first generation of keyboards were literally typewriters with more advanced electronics or keyboards using their elastic diaphragm switches. The latter being a hybrid of typewriter mechanism and metal 'proto-membrane'.
Is the Logitech G915 still a good keyboard in 2022?
It never was (insert picture of the meme there cause I don't have it)
oh
welp
I just watched a bunch of reviews that said it was really good and stuff but now you've put me off
What would you recommend instead?
That was more of a joke tho
But if you want prebuilt then leopold, durgod, varmilo, keychron (with hotswap socket) and maybe ducky
I'm literally a complete noob in keyboards
I just want one I can use without too much effort
Check out every brand that I mentioned and check if there's something there that suit your needs
Those usually have better build quality than what most gaming brands can offers for the same price and even less
btw, I don't do gaming, I'll be using it solely for typing
Varmilo has really nice keycaps options too
Doesn't matter what you use it for
there's not such things as that keyboard is for typing and that one is for gaming and such
it's always and only a matter of preference
Okay
What layout you like, what switches you like, what color scheme you like and such
Actually, in regards to the Logitech release cycle, when will the successor to the G915 be released?
Most reviews I've seen of it are quite old
No idea
I don't follow gaming brand releases ... well most keyboard release except the keychron Q2
So maybe I should wait a few months?
Find a place where you can try some switches
So it can help you determine which ones you like the most
RIP because covid
Well that's where a hotswappable keyboard comes in handy
I don't want to go too deep into the rabbit hole of keyboards lol
Hotswap is not deep and it offers easier way to fix the keyboard when there's a problem with it
Oh I see
are hot swappable kbds expensive?
Oh - one thing I forgot to mention - I live in NZ, so PC components and peripherals are expensive here
Linus Tragic Tips
Check keychron ... they have some ... not expensive ... less than the logitech you were looking for I bet
ouchc
I don't think there are local sellers
so I'd have to import it
not worth it if the import fees alone are like $200
Well where are you then ?
Oh that suck
Yeah :/
:/
Sorry, GMMK?
Hotswap keyboard
Kemove snowfox for 60%
Durgod fusion for 75%
Gmmk for tkl
Only the durgod fusion is not hotswappable
I also have a k552 in pieces
Sorry for the ignorance, but why have different sized keyboards?
seems expensive lol
Maybe you can check the akko keyboard...
Well I got the fusion and snowfox from a keyboard reviewer so they were under half the retail price
Oh, nice
Totally yes ... he's a really nice guy ... we talked for more than an hour
sounds awesome
Indeed it is
I saw a lot if nice stuff that he sold ... but I can't get everything tho
That suck
so idk
g915 might be the best option
how are other "big" brands? like coolermaster or steelseries
I have a Razer Blackwidow V3, with their clicky green switches, but they are waaay to loud for me, so I'm going with tactiles next time
Steelseries probably have the better switches out of the gaming brand or so I've heard
Get what will have the features you want like layout, size, macro or not, rgb or not and such
Pbt keycaps are better
No problem
there's just such a limited selection of keyboards where I am, damn it
Well here we also have a hard time to get some stuff for cheap
Not just for cheap, but shipping times and import fees
Same here
any cool duckys come out lately?
I kind of have a weird question, are there any keyboards available in Japan with Hall switches?
Or at least, Japanese layout with Hall switches?
No
I think my typewriter is broken. The spell check on it says "yeet" isn't a word
Huh?
It's saying "yeet" isn't a word when I spell check
looks like thats a thing on electronic typewriters
tho tbh
yeet is a relatively new word in the dictionary tho
maybe your typewriter is still on the 1899 update
Its gotta be at least 1946 for it to know yeet and sheesh tho
Made in 1986 so IDK
Xerox Memorywriter 6020 with 64k rom
and spell check
I need to see if I can update the internal dictionary
yea yeet got an entry on dictionary.com in like 2021
so i dont think that most 1985 dictionaries have it
