my wooting sounds rattly af coz of the plastic case
bottom out just sounds...rattly
it's a pun
oh
it makes less sense without the characters
coz this discord does that autotrasnalte thing
李小龍包 lol
you thinking of 小籠饅
xiao long bao
李小龍 is bruce lee
put the two together = dumb pun
Li small dragon bao
:p
did i hear biden???
whats yalls recomendation for switches for a 108 key keyboard
already chose the keycaps
and maybe the PCB and stuff also
hot swappable cause first time
here r the keycaps https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=3295 if someone could tell me if that brand and this site is good
and here is the other part https://epomaker.com/collections/full-size-104/products/epomaker-gk108s-kit
100% Layout Hotswap Keyboard Kit GK108/GK108S kit is designed with the full layout to be more suitable for traditional typing habit. It is equipped with hot swappable terminals, with which you could install the switches directly without soldering. It’s compatible with Cherry MX switches, Kailh switches and Gateron swit
I swear by WASD keyboards. I use the code v2/v3 with cherry mx clears. This is for programming though. It’s expensive. I can justify a $200 keyboard because I literally make my livelihood from it. If it was just for gaming, not so much.
They do have cheaper versions though and open box discounts
And tons of different switch options. I don’t think the codes are easily hot swapable but I think other models are
WASD keyboards?
WASD Keyboards offers custom mechanical keyboards, custom Cherry MX keycaps, and other mechanical keyboard accessories.
those r expensive af tho
They’re kind of a boutique manufacturer. Again. Expensive
Yeah, they are.
Honestly you probably won’t go wrong with a Corsair base
corsair keebs suck?
If you can’t find one with the switches you want just get a hot swap PCB and it’ll be fine
yea
i somewhat want a wireless keyboard also just bc i may end up using this hooked up to a TV
I have a Corsair with cherry reds and it’s great. It’s the one with the foam under thing and a mousepad on it.
oh yea
i got the razer chroma crysona rn
i dont reccomend gamer keebs from name brands
ok why is that
most of the people that are veterans on this channel would agree
I’ve never had issues with Corsair keyboards. Razer stay away from though.
corsair keebs are terrible compaired to cheaper alternitaves iirc
Those and wasd are the only one I’ve really used though.
wait for a actual keeb nerd to show up
i havent had many issues with mine so far and i got it as a gift from my grandfather who prob has no idea about this world of DIY keyboards
That may be. My friend had the same model I ended up getting (k63 lap board thing) and I liked it enough that I was find with it.
i mean it really comes down to preference
The trick is to find good enough quality with good enough customer support and good enough price.
is this keyboard good and i would just swap out the keycaps for something that i like a little better https://www.wasdkeyboards.com/discontinued-v2-code-105-key-german-mechanical-keyboard-cherry-mx-clear.html
I’m definitely not a keyboard enthusiast. I found what I like and I don’t need to keep trying new ones.
my gk61 was 90 bucks and is the best keeb ive ever had
just a really nice keeb with modding out the wazoo
sorry if im interupting your keebs talk but is this a good pcb and housing or no https://epomaker.com/collections/full-size-104/products/epomaker-gk108s-kit
100% Layout Hotswap Keyboard Kit GK108/GK108S kit is designed with the full layout to be more suitable for traditional typing habit. It is equipped with hot swappable terminals, with which you could install the switches directly without soldering. It’s compatible with Cherry MX switches, Kailh switches and Gateron swit
check out leopold
and epomaker makes some good stuff
ok
also keychron
so then ill prob get those and some switches
the k10 is full size iirc
Yes. I have a code v2 and it’s fantastic. The v3 has better features (usb c, better programmability) but that’s a really good price. Again, my focus was programming not gaming.
and is https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/ a legit site or some sketch ass site
legit
I have no problem recommending it, but I also suspect you’ll find something you would like better.
yea like i will use it to code a decent bit but not for a living and its mostly gaming or typing
ok thanks
so now im on the hunt for what keycaps
check out the keychron lineup tho
ok
ill check that rn
It’s fantastic for typing. It isn’t an “ergo” keyboard but it is designed well.
they have gaterons so really smooth
Heavy as a damn brick too. I could beat s zombie to death and plug it back in and I’d expect it to still work.
lol
for 94 bucks i might just need to cause its hot swappable, rgb for whenever i might end up needed that just in case, and gateron reds and wireless
i would just get keycaps
and im all good
akko makes some good ones
That sounds like a good deal to me. Keycaps can be pricy though
Code isn’t hotswap or RGB or wireless.
ok
So if those are big wants, I’d say that board sounds better.
those things are nice tho
yea ill be paying like $50 or smth crazy for 108 keycaps
like i dont need rgb
but i rlly prefer wireless and hotswap
I don’t need wireless because If I’m working, I’m at my desk where my keyboard is. It has backlighting which is enough for me. I don’t need unicorn puke personally. Hotswap would be a plus but again, meh, I know I like what I have and I don’t personally have a need to try out bunches of different switches. I probably would sometimes if I could though.
i would use the RGB for white or to match the LEDS in my room so it doesnt look odd
or maybe purple backlight for the purple keycaps
I have a separate wireless keyboard I keep near my couch and tv. So I do see the benefit. I just don’t need it for this one if that makes sense.
That would look pretty good. Purple is a good color.
i want wireless cause less cables and also so i can use it with TV PC
yea ima prob be using the joker keycaps from ducky
well they r purple and blue
and pink
but still
yea
i wish i could just build 2 keyboards so i can have 1 at desk and 1 for tv pc but the prices on these things
Yeah, absolutely.
like i might just buy like a gk61 for my pc and use the built one for my tv pc
Can always be a future thing though!
yea
Anyway I need to sleep so I can wake up and work so I have money to pay for a place to sleep. It’s a vicious cycle. Hopefully this has helped!
yea i got to sleep cause i got classes bright and early tmr morning and its already 2am for me
so gn
thanks for all the help
Glad to!
its 1 for me and i dont think of sleeping any time soon hehe
drummeur if i have any more questions is it ok if i ping you or dm you (they prob wont be for hours if not days)
105g0 on springs for linear switchess?
for bag lubing yes
id use 205g0 for that
there arent grades of oils. but yes, 105 is fine for springs if not a bit excessive
the pack I got comes with 105 and 205 so i have choice
What do you think about the ergodox?
quick question but overall what switches are considerd best, and with housings does it matter what housing the switch is in?
Just like Sound, there is a limit to how far you can go with "best" objectively in this case, you get about 50% there and the rest is Subjective (your personal tastes)
true but im more reffering to best in regards to quality, as i havn't dealt with anything more then romer g (both variants) and cherry red and cherry brown
prefferance i havn't build up due to that, but so far its tactile kinda like the browns but bit heavyer bit smoother and silent thats what id immagine looking for
so id probably lube whatever i end up going for
topper
^
Someone help me choose a keyboard
Kailh silent box brown, boba u4, aliaz silent, maybe gateron make some silent brown ... not sure tho ... that's about those I remember that are silent tactile switches
dont forget gazzew silent boba
I'm learning German and speaking a lot more of it online
If I upgrade my keyboard ever I'm thinking of getting a German one
Would the differences between it and English QWERTY be too hard to get used to?
It really depends on the person.
Wdym?
Some people acclimate to different conditions better than others. If I found out my keys were swapped around then, depending on which keys were switched, it would take a bit for me to get used to. But some people are very quick to readjust their muscle memory, others, not so much.
Ah
I don't know the German layout, so I can't really say too much. I'll just say that you'll have to try it for yourself.
Happy to help.
I'll look into it
Tbh you can use any layout without a special keyboard I was typing Belgian azerty on a French azerty board and now use azerty boards to type qwerty
My lshift key is making a weird springy and continuous noise when I press and release it lightly, what’s up with that?
It arrived!!
Any alternatives to the keychron k2 or Q1?
the RK hot swaps so that would be the RK84 for an 80%
Thank you
And do you know of one that offers iso support like keychron?
The GMMKs have ISO versions @sleek bronze
if you want a linear keyboard the Apex Pro I think comes in ISO
from steelseries
The gmmk is hot swap you can put any switch you want i there
Noice. What do you plan to use it for?
I'll look at the gmmk iso ty
springs and stabs
can anyone speak to glorious lynx switches?
Yeah didn't know there was an iso version for the gmmk pro
Indeed it's the direct competitor of the Q1 apparently
And the RK84 a direct competitor of the K2
I like options
what would you recommend for switches that are high quality?
Oh an btw I have a keychron K2 which is dead cuz of kitty, I asked if I could buy just the PCB, I'll see what they tell me
is keychron a better build quality then the gmmk?
do I want my keyboard to be flexible?
I dont see why I would 😅
I've only had razer keyboards, im looking for something with a bit better build quality
From what I saw none is better, just different
I'm asking myself the same lmao
Buy yeah considering that a big selling point of those keyboards is the flex it's a plus for the keychron technically
Also I think that price wide keychron is more interesting for EU people
Price wise *
i started with a varmilo miya pro and now im looking at gmmk and keychron since it gets brought up a lot
i dont want fine though I want good 😛
Btw are there any 0-150$ split keyboards ?
Or do I have to go the full custom way?
but is it better to have hot swappable or no?
I would rather hotswap but the miya pro is prebuilt so I wont have to touch it again
nah, razer blackwidow v2
I think it may be a fun hobby, I like building my own pc's and stuff. honestly id be looking for a full kb anyways
yea
Don't forget the tm980
and the gmmk right?
its just called the gmmk is the one im looking at
cause of build quality or?
yeah its just hard to tell whats fact or crap
thanks for all your help!
This is the only good suggestion
whats wrong with the 980m?
It’s not topre
topre?
Fc980c has topre switches
They’re really nice
I have an fc980m it’s not “bad” but it’s not even close to any topre keyboard
I've only had razer products so idk what that means
The switch is the bit inside each key you press and it’s the main thing that determines if it’s linear or tactile or clicky, how hard it is to press
Topre switches are really nice to type on
what about to game?
cause im looking for a keyboard that can do both: coding, and gaming
I don’t game so can’t comment there
But I don’t think any keyboard really is bad for any specific thing
Its preference
i just dont want to get stuck into buying another razer product because I feel like I go through them too fast
Do you guys have any ideas how to clean/restore this worn yellowish hue?
the material is rubber-like. I ussually use alcohol wipes or hand sanitiser to clean my peripherals, but nothing of this sort works here
it used to be gray
but dont I want tactile for gaming?
ive never had it idk everything im reading says linear is for gaming not tactile sorry
shoot, well that doesnt make anything easier on me XD
I have only used razer keyboards, right now im on a blackwidow v2 and I like it a lot it's just a little too noisy
razer yellows
Yeah I like it a lot, the feel is nice and smooth I just get told quite frequently that its really loud.
I tried linear (mx red) and NEVER again. I pressed keys so many times by mistake even lost games because of it (accidental ultimate trigger when you were just resting your finger on it)
Clicky types or bumpy types for life. No matter if gaming or typing
see I have linear but I rarely if ever accidently push keys. I typically pair the keyboard with a wrist rest and am hovering over my keys
Its just not for me. I need the response
Using logitech switches now romero-g tactile
My favorite so far, like em even better than mx browns and blues
I wish I could test the feel for free XD
You could get a switch tester for like $20
Amazon?
Yeah there are some on Amazon
Not every tactile switch is equal so the one you get wont reflect them all. Its just to get a feel for what it will be
Why? I really like them
cause im also looking at this keyboard: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=5479
They aren’t known to make great keyboards. Its fine if you like them
G413 was one of the most asthethically pleasing kbs for me and I really liked the switches
Sorry im starting to repeat myself
I know! Totally true
Honestly I couldnt find a keyboard I would really like visually and G413 was it for me. Just stylish enough but still subtle. Also the led engravings are really well made, it was the selling point for me
Like barely any light pierces outside the keycaps
Brushed aluminum, what else could you ask for. And a very fair price. No rgb tough. Not a fan anyway.
If you dont want to overpay for a quality keyboard and want to try something else I would still recommend the G413
yeah at the moment it sounds like I need to buy a switch tester and go from there

Would this be OK for a first custom keyboard build?

currently using a corsair k55
im thinking of getting the huntsman mini, is there any better alternatives for a similar price
@weary moth i would get different keycaps because of that font but it's a preference thing. also get some lube for stabilisers
Thanks, will lube the stabs and the switches
205g0 good?
yep
I really like the lavender purple ...
The switches are quite smooth out of the box ... personally I don't feel the need for lubing them ...
For the stabs yes either lube them or just replace them by some dock v2 stabs, will be a good improvement over the stock stabs
Ok, thanks a lot, ill look at how to lube stabilisers on youtube
Also one more question
Ive seen people add plasters to the insides of their stabilisers, is this worth doing?
What would you think about constant force switches?
Not sure, as i said im new to the concept of customs
Ah ok, sorry
Np sry for confusing you
Should be doable with electro magnets
You would have to lower the current at the same rate that the switch goes down ...
Might be weird yes ... shouldn't buy any of those tho
Less demand for 60%
Or maybe they have different switches
But regardless ~gaming brand bad~
Because most people prefer 60 percent
Or tkl
which full size to which 60%?
@unkempt dome 👋 did you see the Akko sponge tactile switches?
Yes indeed, 2 stage yes
I got a new k70mk 2 se and so I'm using my old keyboard as an rgb light
I'm tented to try them
Full-sized keebs are more common.
Giving more incentive for manufacturing optimization in assembly and overall cost, especially when the tooling will be used in bulk more.
Also explains why all three sizes of GMMK are the same price.
no I haven't seen those ... I'll check them out
EPOMAKER AKKO CS Sponge Tactile Switch Set for Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, 3 Pin Switch, 45 Pieces https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09G9CGQ1D/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_XS7M2DXHSGC83WP4YFK1
ordering that
@unkempt dome for real ??
yeah why ... those are quite inexpensive ... like under 50 for 90 switches ... I wanted to try them
CAD btw
I know, didn't think you'd pull the trigger that fast 😄
well the force graph is interesting and I want to compare those to the ocean blue and lavender purple
they marked up by 1 usd than akko msrp
on the akko website too
Tell me what they're like compared to the ocean blue.
The Starfish linear look sweet too.
I'm not a linear person so ... yeah not for me
Me neither. Meant aesteticaly
oh yes they are
The bottoms are polycarb instead of POM, should have a different sound profile then the Lavender.
you mean the ocean blue or the new one I already forgot the name ?
The sponge have polycarb bottoms
ok .
Regular spring like the lavender. No 2 stage springs like the blue
that's what I don't like about the blue ... the 2 stage spring
I replaced the 2 stages springs with 62g golds in my Ocean Blue
how do they feel ?
Great and spring ping's gone
nice ...
Are glorious lynx switches worth it?
Which one do you guys prefer ? Blackwidow v3 vs Huntsman mini ?
Hi! Can someone tell me what's the difference between GEEK GK61 and HK Gaming GK61?
And does the Geek GK61 come with optical or mechanical switches?
just different brands really
and normally speaking the gk61 comes with mechanical contact based switches
The only difference I see is the price and the keycaps
The geek yellow one is 67 USD
And the HK Gaming Yellow is 79.99 USD
Both are optical ig
i would say that get the one thats cheaper
for the optical switch thingy, it will listed with optical switches
Ok one more question, is a big difference between the silvers and the yellows?
Nvm, already ordered
Why?
Also has anyone here tried the Azeron Cyborg?
Cause the closer you get two opposing magnets together the higher the repulsion force is ... and you said constant force switch
I was thinking about a permanent magnet in a coil
it's the same
a magnet is a magnet ... when two opposing magnets come closer together the opposing force becomes higher
No, it’s a homogenous magnetic field
if you say so
I don't see the point of using magnet since a spring can do that imperceptibly perfectly
Constant force feedback? You could configure the force too btw
and how is that possible ?
can someone give me link to sorbothane foam if you used any xd
cuz I dont know if you need higher duro or lower
Depending on the magnetic field strength
and how you adjust that besides changing the magnets ... kinda the same as changing the springs to me
How much power you give the electro magnets
no idea .. I'm not an electrical engineer ... would be fun to see a keyboard with 4 usb plugs and most of them being for power ...
I mean that’s how you would configurable the resistance
yes
and no
not sure about if changing the force of the magnet around would make that much of a difference without going to a really high force ...
Why wouldn’t it make a difference? That’s what powers the keys in the first place
cause the force applied by the magnetic field is not upward to create the resistance ... at best it's at a 45 degree angle so you lose half the upward force ... I don't know how much force you would need to make a real difference and how it would translate in the power needed by electromagnets to achieve that ...
yes
where the force is coming from then ...
the side
you can't have a 100% upward force unless the force is coming directly from the top and/or the bottom
Why?
well I don't care much about linear in the first place
also constant force is not interesting to me
and I don't see any use for adjustable weight of the switch
but probably some would be interested in that of course
I see
also that would make a keyboard quite expensive most likely
But I would encourage you to keep developing the idea ... we never know how it might turn out ...
Nice
That’s definitely true
what are some 65 keyboards custom kits ready to buy rn that are worth
is Genesis rhod 500 RGB a good keyboard?
If you by 'good' mean it gets the job done I guess? I'm guessing you aren't looking for something fancy?
@lusty bear do you know of any good mice in 60-70 dollar price range?
@trim cedar Maybe check out the logitech g703 lightspeed wireless, Razer mamba wireless or even the logitech G pro hero. They are primarly "gaming" mice though
thats good enough
i mean i want a gaming mouse
i have the razer mamba wireless bro
after 2 months synapse cant even detect it anymore
so dumb
i tried everything
Nice, not to be that guy but isn't this the wrong channel for questions regarding mice?
Damn, sadge
Excuse me thats my job
What to buy in 50-100$ range
Well you seemed to be slacking on the job so I hopped in and helped you on your shift, you're welcome :))
I can respect that. Thank you, sir :)
i didnt see a mice one lol
Understandable, have a nice day
there's no mouse channel... that one here should probably be called peripheral
And then they left
They joined this server to ask for mice only to to be disappointed and left
Possibly
Damn, strange. First ever interaction I have with this server and this happens 🤷♂️
I have to say, I've been using the Keychron K1 low profile for a little bit now, and I absolutely love it.
correct me if im wrong but it sounds like the gmmk pro has a better build quality then the gmmk?
Whats a good keyboard for $150 CAD?
40% only
Would anyone know if $105 is a lot for the glorious lynx switches from glorious prelubed is worth it or not? It's for a custom full built keyboard.
What that’s tiny and out of the question
I rlly hope ur joking
I am looking at building my own keyboard. Would yall recommend buying from Cannon Keys?
yeah they're a decent vendor and designer as well
i use a 40% ortho for everything except gaming which I don't do that often
@wispy saffron Any other vendors you would recommend? This is my first time really looking into this kind of thing so I don't know a lot of different vendors.
there's a list somewhere
scroll down to your country
and it should have 99% of them
Ah thank you! That is exactly what I needed!
Now I can look at everything and properly do my research before making a choice.
Also if you don't know much about custom boards, there's also Keyboard University
Thank you!
does razer have good stabs?
Nope.
I just cleaned my keyboard for the first time in 8 years. And holy cow that was disgusting
TW: Gross AF
One of those things I just kept saying I’d do later
Damn there's a unicomp full size for sale near me ...
What ddid you clean it with?
Alcohol and Q tips
Does using alchool damages the keycaps_
does it work on ABS and PBS i think is the other kind? also how strong is the alchool?
I use dawn dish soap for keycapse
It didn’t damage mine. But I don’t know if it will with all or with longer exposure
I cleaned the key caps with a Clorox wipe
This is an 8 year old keyboard I really didn’t care if I damaged it
what yall wpm here
70 max
Like 80 or so
i just use onefinger
That’s better than mine after a few months of no cleaning lol
Second pic is underneath the plate and pcb, and that’s only a couple months after the last time I’d cleaned it
avg is 80 but ive gotten 100 before
I need some help (not sure if this is the right channel for it)
A key on my laptop keyboard broke
I can put it inside but when I click the top half it pops off again
I think that the issue is that the top clips on the retainer are broken
But I can’t find a new one
I have a Lenovo l340 gaming
I did
They saying it’ll cost 14k INR Or about 200 USD
Yes
thx
Should have bought that over my Q1 damn
Anyone have a good suggest for a hotkey app?
Maybe autohotkey
what does {GB} mean on the stores of some stores?
basically pre order - lots of the vendors in the community are smaller and dont have the capital free for a large production run out of pocket. so they take orders for a period of time, and then they submit the order and get it produced.
cheers!
np
what would the price of an average custom kb cost? i just want a 75%
sorry ive got no idea how all this works
idk tbh 😅 i've been quite disconnected from most of the offerings in the hobby for over a year
what would it have costed last year?
cant remember
ok all g
the things you need really depend on the kit you go with.
you need: case, plate, pcb, switches, stabilisers, keycap
its a pretty hard hobby to get into isnt it?
lots of the kits you can buy will include case, plate and pcb. and some of the budget options come with their own stabilisers
theres a lack of information as well as hard to get stuff outright then and there
the former was worse when i started lol
i was shown a good site lemme find it
i checked out Rama.com (aus website) and they had products that i really like which suits my taste as well as the arrow stuff
you can search for stuff there
most of the higher end stuff yeah
some of the cheaper stuff like kbdfans is readily available
is there any hierarchy over switch brands?
i jsut use cherry browns cuz they came with my corsair kb
its mostly just preference really
i havent followed most of the stuff available now, i just use cherry browns too
o ok, i recently heard browns are ass
lots of ppl say that, i think its dumb
the whole hobby is about preference, who cares if you dont like something that others do lol
agreed
sure, its good to try more things to better figure out what you like but there's nothing inherently wrong with mx browns if you like their feel
do u lube?
i havent lubed my switches
i've lubed some stabilisers
lol
i wanna try lubing but i cbb taking my keys apart since they are soldered on
been meaning to lube one of my board's stabs for a year but i've been too lazy 😩
1 of my boards has lubed stabs that is good enough..
kbdfans has products i like
Update: The PCB has been changed to the black color Specs Tray Mount 75% layout Soldered Version Unassembled Include Case: Aluminum Material. Tofu84 Color: Black, Burgundy Red, E-coating Grey, Silver, Blue, Tiffany. PCB: Soldered version; Type-C interface; RGB underglow; Support VIA and QMK; VIA firmware Download Pl
thats a decent budget option i believe
i cant immediately think of any
maybe the gmmk pro?
i cant remember if that has per key rgb
at least its hotswap
oh you were talking about the gmmk pro
yee
Specs: Soldered vesrion: KBD75 Rev 2.0 PCB (PCB0005) (RGB underglow), also fits with KBD75 v1/ v2/ v3 Keyboard, Tofu84 Keyboard, D84 Keyboard Hot-swap version: KBD75 hot swap PCB (RGB underglow, no Per-key RGB) , fits with KBD75 v3/ v3.1, D84 keyboard. Fixed layout (84keys), not support other layouts. Typing angle: 7°
there's a hotswap version of this one
oh lit
i can pick "add switches" and select RGB cherry switches, that gives perkey lighting too right?
sorry im a huge noob at this lol
nope sry
that just means they are "cherry rgb" keyswitches
they're different from other cherry switches as they have clear housings
so, if you had per-key rgb, the clear housing would let that shine through more
does PCB matter here if i get a perkey rgb switch?
like would certain pcb support perkey rgb
I don't think there's a hotswap RGB PCB that wouldn't.
It depends, not all pcbs fit that case. Just have to see if it says it supports it
Hopefully somebody who follows the scene more closely will be able to give a concrete answer
oh its fine, your helping me heeps
thanks so much
cheers!
Np, I remember it was hard to get started too
i feel its more complicated than building a pc, at least most of them are cross compatitable lol
i think it depends, i find keyboards less complicated but i've been into them for a few years
- if something breaks, you don't lose much money ... compared to GPUs lol
i accidentally bricked the controller on a friend's ~$5k keyboard
lol
I mean ...
but yee is true
Let's just say not everyone is spending 5k on a bloody keyboard
True
i wouldnt be flashing random untested code on a gpu for fun
how do u even get a 5k keyboard
aftermarket prices if they're rare & desirable
whether its 'worth' that would be your judgement to make, but there definitely are ones which sell for that
i literally feel like if u give me 5k, ill go learn how to make that shit and make it myself
I hope that whoever bought that 5k keyboard and wanted to use untested random software on it didn't have the expendable income to repair it cause of living above their standards
oh i'm going to fix it for him cus i was the one to fuck it up
I mean
if a keyboard breaks u can always salvage most the switches, case and keycaps at least
If someone would go to me
and they are worth the most i think?
Ask me to do this
Then I'd tell him "If it breaks, it's on you cause you should know the risks"
lots of the higher end ones have their own custom plate and pcb
well
at the end of it he'll get a free new pcb once its designed, so i think its worth it for him
custim pcb can still be made again if u ask a third party manufacturer
this keyboard used custom spacing
Yui
the distance between each key was different
Got a good soldering iron for me?
no i mean there are companies and stuff out there that would make pcb based on ur specifications and stuff
idk bro i use a $40 iron. it says "yihua 926 led soldering station" on the front
yeah but you'd still have to design the pcb
true
to get them to produce it
china real cheap for that
5k keyboard just for the sound and the feel of it
Sadge. I am asking a tone of people in here and always get different results 😄
he didnt pay near that
Or recommendations
he's had it a few years
Guess I'll just go for a random one as well with somewhat of a reputable brand
i just dont see the price justification for a case thats 500+
The production costs
i think it depends. i wouldnt jump to spend that much on any board lol
no lol
production is surprisingly cheap for high quantities
My 10€ g80-3000 says hi
i have a friend whose prototypes cost $2k per keyboard.
ofc for high quantities
each unit gets cheaper, the more u produce
But they are still high depending on what you do.
but production costs for CNC alum or steel, then machining/anodising or painting
the size of a kb is really only gonna take a few hours for cnc
each case would cost atmost 100 in materials and labour
unless exotic materials like gold plated or smth ofc
i've seen quite a few prod quotes, the price does vary a lot. especially when you consider buying extras to account for qc. your estimate of 100 is very optimistic to say the least.
^
its fine to question the prices of things, i think its good, but just stating things like that as fact when you dont actually have experience is quite misleading imo.
i agree, but it definitely 100 is already quite a high production cost price
i have experience in making my own stuff from raw materials from hardware stores and machining items thats all
to the precision and quality of high end keyboards? accounting for extras, paying experienced machinists, getting them finished to a high standard?
i see your point
a friend's costs for prototyping a 65% keyboard
is the brass a backplate?
Eye watering
brass switch plate, badge, and weight
(just get a g80)
how do u justify a 200$ backplate?
not trying to say that the price is justified or reasonable, just showing that it is quite expensive
i meant that the numbers you were giving are too cheap lol
How do you justify spending thousands more on car stuff?
If it gives you joy, your call.
I'd never do it but alas
car stuff?
I for one would spend most of my money on vacations
sadly, the quantities in this hobby are quite low to most machining shops, so economies of scale dont go into great effect
yup, i know that, thats why its so expensive
the higher end u go for any product, the price to value ratio lowers exponentially
not really, will u put it to 100% load?
cant say that most of the higher end stuff is 'worth it' to a sane individual
unless u mining 24/7
Sarcasm is the use of words usually used to either mock or annoy someone, or for humorous purposes. Sarcasm may employ ambivalence, although it is not necessarily ironic. Most noticeable in spoken word, sarcasm is mainly distinguished by the inflection with which it is spoken or, with an undercurrent of irony, by the extreme disproportion of the...
i feel like you missed a bit of sarcasm there
yeah i didnt see it lol
i just think it the general public will be wtf over someone with 2k keyboard which is like 100x a cheap one they probably use
Not the average gamer but average joe for sure
and I'm like wtf someone spend 40 000 $ on a car
yep totally, its mad to most ppl
but with cars or vacations, its hard to have it 100x another ones price without having a major jump like first class flights and hotels or like a sports car
na, u cant get a new car for like 20k
yes
the difference in price is lower
- you can't really put a price tag on different experiences
^agreed
it all depends how differnet ppl value stuff
you can get a new car for 9k even
i'm approaching maybe $10k value of all my keyboard stuff
yeah if u wanna die
No
but my pc is still running fx8350
lol
lol
i may be getting a better desktop, i may just move to mbp. undecided for now
but yeah. i can justify that because a faster pc wouldnt make much difference for what i actually do
lets say toyota is a entry level car right, then 3x that price, u can already get an astronomically better vehicle
mbp?
macbook pro
but a entry level keyboard for 20$, then a 60$ keyboard still both preatty shit
I'd tell you to get a framework but they don't sell in Europe yet
Actually not lol
i was really considering framework but i just like macos.
New mbp shits all over framework
its 3k aud
they're different classes of product
framework is 1.6?
Framework and ElementaryOS
its not worth the conversation trying to dissuade
i was considering air also, but external display support and such leaves me uncertain
i nuked all my drives and installed gentoo for fun a few months ago
linux is cool
i just want macos on a mobile device
is GMMK Pro worth it? if i ceebs building and compiling my own kb?
Someone actually told me that she thinks Windows 10 is worth over 100$
I found that funny
i fucked up when i bought Win10 for retail
gmmk pro is a decent entry level board i believe, i havent tried it myself
i didnt know CD keys when i was younger
iirc i bought win10 retail like 7 (6?) years ago
Should've went for Linux X)
I bought win10 for 15 bucks
macOS best
maxOS and Linux work the same
still based on linux
Same structure
unix, not linux
do O Rings actually do anything or na
No
continuity and handoff, icloud
o rings do do something but they're shit and should be avoided. if you want it to be quiet, just get silent switches
They do, but I'd not do it.
Using o-rings on my G80 cause I find the MX blacks a liiiiiitle bit too stiff
is there such things as a silent tactile or clicky? lol
tactile yeah
except for those ofc,
and they're one of the biggest selling points 😉
i wouldnt consider my Cherry brown silent tactile
just spring swap
thats because they're not silenced.
lol
there are aliaz, zeal zilents, gateron silent browns, boba u4t
I know, but I already had the o-rings laying around and I am currently not really into swapping out my springs to be quite honest
off the top of my head
Topre
silenced topre is really good though
U4T is not silenced.
Doesn't have any dampening.
is there a silenced version? i remember a friend telling me about it
Good tactiles tho
I think Gazzew has some silent switches.
But it's not the U4T's.
There is a silent u4
should i buy switches form other places when i get GMMK Pro so i dont pay overpay?
i havent actually been interested in new switches since jwk was hated for making the fake zeal switches, just going off what friends have mentioned
Bobagum is silence
If you got a Topre, you don't have any reason to look for new switches x)
New switches are just recolors of clones of a clone
i did use a friend's topre board for a few months before sending it back to him lol
and i only sent it back after i had bought (and received) one of my own
Let's hope that in 5 years all of this shit has gone away so that I may just find a Topre board in stock 🙂
I wouldn't even mind the various weighted ones as I would just install custom domes
Aka none in stock
whats so special about topre boards?
If you want iso de but don't bother to try finding it then what's the point
The best tactile switch you will ever try
Only one board was in stock and it was the old varied weight board in black
Other than brown alps
oh really lol
Then why didn't you buy that
are they loud af or na
No
Cause that is not the board that I am looking for
I'd love a return of the NovaTouch
Never happening
would they be cheaper in japan?
Idk
Best bet is to buy one from r/mechmarket in na
whys that?
Shipping
oh im not NA so doesnt matter anywya
can u get topre switches and build a KB urself with them?
not really rn
settle with
if i had to choose only 1 keyboard i would choose my hhkb over my >$3k custom
whats hhkb?
a topre board
how did u reply just a certain section of the text lol
oohh cool
@boreal rivet red otd
Pro bt is shit compared to hybrid
Don't need device quick switching
Ah then sure get it
Just buy all metal keycaps
Hhkb good
Fuck it, I'll buy some keycaps to offset the cost
Buying from jp?
Sg good
I don’t have my sg flipper emote anymore
apart from foam what can i pit here to make y kb sound nice
A bluetooth speaker
would any of these make it sound nice
Any tips to upgrade my stock Anne pro 2
put foam on the case
tempest mod (aka putting tape on the underside of the pcb)
Does anyone know from where I can buy lube in Romania with low shipping price?
Fuck the hhkb
I still do wonder if I should try to make an electromagnetic keyboard
Which actually needs power to function
That would be cool
Custom actuation force for every key
what are some good budget keycaps?(the rest of the build is rk61 and gate yellows)
Exactly
Maybe even custom tactile bumps and stuff
id buy
Nice
Low shipping from Germany?
Maybe for the measurement, but the keys would be moved by electromagnets!!
The stems would be inside magnetic coils
And if the coils react quickly enough, you could even configure how the resistance changes over distance
But sounds expensive haha
Glad you like the idea
Make it and make it@good
Ill pay quite a bit for it
Esp if it thoccs
Just thought I'd share my boards with y'all
Think6.5v2 & Savage65, both with DMK Semiconductor :))
What's with that button looking thing on the top right
thats prob a decoration key that doesnt output to anything?
No clue I prefer r2
Nice
Might integrate speakers lmao
That exists?
As usual the Jelly mod (also called the PE foam mod)
hhkb and filco
I don’t get why you would omit the bottom corner keys
wont use them anyway. hhkb layout is amazing
you don’t use control? Excuse me?
capslock is control
because its more comfortable to get to there
i have control there on every single keyboard i own
And what about caps lock?
Why not just a key on the bottom row?
You can’t reprogram keys that aren’t there
Looks like just an inefficient use of space to me
Just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean that no one would use it
Also you could just put macros on there
and nobody is forcing you into buying this specific keyboard lmao. if you want a key there then just... don't get this keyboard which doesnt have a key there?
I just don’t get it
and clearly i'm not capable of explaining it well enough for you to get it, so there's nothing more to really say
that pic i sent is of mine so yeah lol
I‘m glad you enjoy it!
You made these pics?
ty 😊
Thought it was promotional content at first haha
i've only been getting back into photography since yesterday so i'm still quite rusty
been getting some help from friends much better than me
Nice
p much all of them taken in dark room with the light coming from my monitors
OTD The Cheat?
OTD 356N MK2. Cheat is 7u bottom row.
i put a sticker on the bottom of it!! ^_^
Yeah
Still not too familiar with all the of the OG boards. I'm sure I can find in the forums of KBDMania but my Korean isn't too good
RIP
It’s definitely hard to justify anywhere near market for them
Otds
Kmacs are easier to justify, they’re still 3 figures ish
Yeah I think I'll stick to Duck and Geon for Kustoms for now
geon is good
Sad couldn't get an F2 but still happy with my F1-8X built with vintage browns
just get topre though tbh, much better value
BASED
vintage browns good
every single mx board i have is browns
Yeah it is pretty pog, but I might rebuild it with Hyperglide blacks and save the vintage browns for some other board. It's plateless and I don't really like the sound, especially the MX Grey spacebar
F1 has a nicer look imo
Much more box looking
f1 sides too thin imo
I ended up skipping f2 because of aesthetics
Only to then also skip kage because I was dumb and forgot to put money aside lol
lewis 👍
Also sad I missed the Haus but I'm not a huge 65% fan anyway
I have an angel on the way from max to scratch my 65% itch
need to set aside switches for mine
the corners on angel and prophet really offputting to me
959 mini is possibly the prettiest board of that form factor
yeah they did a good job of it
I thought the same but I’m actually really happy with how my prophet looks in person
Going to have an all black angel and all white prophet
i havent seen it irl, i have enough to satisfy me for 60s so i passed
that'll look good
Very excited for that
Yeah I’ve been saving a godly batch of mx blacks for the all black build too lol
i only wanna use browns and topre
I wonder if alessio would rent his 959 mini again
it doesnt need to get dented more
I didn’t hear about the dent
Rip
i probs wont take any of my boards if i ever go to meetup
i'd be going to meet people, not to see boards
Same here but also mx blacks
Yeah same
Any board I could bring would also probably be there
I don’t have anything crazy really
Yeah
Though I’m less interested in the build, more so the board itself
If that makes any sense lol
sorta does
Like I won’t type on a board at a meet-up and go crazy over how the switches feel lol
Anyways I could maybe buy something really cool if I sold boards, but I am not sure if it’s worth it
Oh god no
No OTD is really worth market, but boy I’d buy a 356 mini if I had the money
mini is cool
i'm only really getting things that are unique or by friends
Time to become a jaded keyboard nerd
Time to only use cherry and topre
I’ve been on the cherry and topre stage for a while now actually lmao
no reason for anything else 😌
i really havent tried much but i'm more than content with what i have
I let all the zoomers go crazy over ktt and akko
I gave up on keeping up with stuff like a year ago
that otd was my first ever tkl custom, first top mount, etc
Oh wow you went straight to the deep end
nice
i had cheaper stuff
