then tell him that with the redragon, he doesnt have to press the key all the way down for it to actuate
and non o ring outemu mx clone will feel more solid when bottom out than that rubber dome membrane.
i kinda explained that
tell him it will last a lot longer
i said a mechanical keyboard will last like 5 years and will feel better to use
he doesn’t really know that much about a keyboard
then literally copied the marketing from the steelseries apex 5 to your friend.
k lol
idk
also what is kermit drinking in your pfp lol
k
dont worry about it its a slav healing drink
gives you more HP in games basically a irl cheat code
nah he just had a lot of these healing drinks
lol
yeah he just pro
but can he survive a scooter to the ankle
dont think so thats like instakill
yes or he has to stop drinking this "healing" drink
but that wont happen hes an alcoholic
kermit the infinite health alcoholic
yeah he grows stronger after every drink
i wish there was a keeb with kermit on the back
i googled it like 5 actually support it
paint it on your case
me and art dont exist
its interest check.
they can list whatever price they want.
but obviously with that price tag it will affect ppl decision.
But still thoooo, it better be made out of gold tho 🤣
amogus is still funny
whats top tier linear
That's not gonna be the final price lmao
If you look at their other boards, none of them breach the $200 mark.
I figured lol but it's just a funny sh*t post
what are all the best tactiles
I'd recommend watching videos about people testing all different types of tactile
Pretty much. There is no "best tactile" because the best one is the one you think feels best.
The keyboard hobby is very subjective
Will pudding key caps work okay on the keychron q1 due to the South facing rgb ?
Yeah they’ll be fine. I don’t think the position for those matters as much
Anyone familiar with the Razer Huntsman TKL? It's on sale on Amazon and I want a TKL keyboard
Yeah I don’t think you should get a Razer keeb
What is your budget for one
southfacing with only legends transparent can be a bit dim but thats about it
ight
Depends on where the legends are on the key.
of course
Appreciate it first time putting a keyboard together and wanted to know before I ordered the key caps
I'm not sure tbh. I mostly just want something that feels good to type on. What are your recommendations?
Are the Corsair TKL keyboards good?
As much as I like mine I don’t think they’re a good recommendation. That goes for all “gAmER” keyboards
Appreciate it sorta new to keyboard building so didn't know if it made a difference lmao
Since you have enough for it, maybe a keychron Q1 or Glorious GMMK
I don't care too much about customization and hot swapping tbh. I mostly just want something that feels good to type on.
Those are good to type on
Do you know if any of the cheaper brands on Amazon are good? What's the minimum you would spend?
What about brand names like Corsair and Steel series?
oh actually steel series has some decent boards
Since there is no clear answer on the best tactiles anyone know what tacticles to stay away from
Not for any reasons that can be explained by preference just general reasons that make them bad
cherry brown ... unless you like really like tactile bump and scratchy switches
scratchy?
yes scratchy
hg browns has equivalent smoothness with gateron smd
my guy stop listening to sterotypes
given that you got the good batch?
i have them and they are probably the most scratchy switches i have
cause i know that bad batches of hyperglides are a thing
my batch is fine, I still wont call them a really good batch
I don't know ... I tried them first in the blackwiddow stealth 2013 ... i didn't even noticed they were tactile ...
and then I got them in the durgod fusion ...
so thats the pre hyperglides in the blackwidow
yeah still not much tactility ... still scratchy
the ones in the blackwiddow were smoother than the ones in the durgod fusion
tbh, mx design are not the place to find "tactile" switches
totally agreed
but hey I give them another chance and I still don't like them
but I really like the durgod fusion ... really nice color scheme, nice look, nice layout ... bluetooth and 2,4 dongle
but damn the cherry brown in there
Hmm, any got any 65-75% recs for kits around $300 USD?
Isn't that Owlabs Jelly Epoch money?
Hard part is actually getting it when it stocks lmao
Are Kailhs Box White good?
yes imo.
I can get this case and PCB
with Kailhs Box White

Yai
that case might produce some hollow sound profile, just a note.
Guys what are your thoughts on Keychron Q1? I ordered mine barebones, I think it’s really good for the price.
So I'm painting my keyboard and key caps with black 3.0 but I still want RGB to come out of the key caps, any tips
If they were shine through to begin with you could avoid the letters that are translucent
seems to be pretty decent with a bit of mods
the stock sound is slightly hollow
kailh has like 5 clicky switches right? how do they differ'm
kbdfans has a few kits around that
Box while has the lightest spring and thinnest clickbar.
Box jade uses box white spring but with the thickest clickbar out of all box clickbars.
Box pale blues has the heaviest spring but the same clickbar as box white.
Box navy has both the heaviest spring and thickest bar.
Box pink has a unique spring weight and clickbar thickness that makes it in-between box white and box navy according to spec.
oh ty. been thinking of trying it. need to buy/learn soldering first
what’s some good rgb silencing white key caps for k87
I want to do that too lmao
I'm not gonna be using masking tape on the keys at all
Can sombody please help me.. I am looking for some information on the Asus TUF K3 keyboard I bought yesterday. They market the keyboard to be compatible with different switches:
"TUF Gaming K3 features heavy-duty mechanical switches with 50-million-keystroke lifespans, and they're customizable with Blue, Brown or Red switches. 100% anti-ghosting and n-key rollover (NKRO)"
Does this mean I can swap out the keys? I'm noy exactly sure
Thank you in advance
By "swap out the keys", do you mean the keycaps or the switches themselves?
The switches themselves :)
If I'm not mistaken they use the kailh switches or something, but i have read something where companies solder the switches to the pcb.
I believe when they say "customizable with blue, brown or red switches" means you can purchase them with either of those options
if they were swappable then they should allow for more switch options than just blue, brown and red
with some soldering, yes
@ionic briar thanx for answering for me, i was away for all the afternoon and a good part of the evening.
@sour peak there's also the kailh speed bronze switch that use click bar as the click mechanism
How do box jades and box whites compare
Also how do box navies compare to those two
Ok thanks
probably higher tactile bump cause of the thicker click bar
Also has a chance to be stuck under the the click bar after being pressed down as noted by chyrosran22
yes indeed cause the spring is not strong enough ...
some other reviews mentioned that and that's why I didn't get the jade and got the white and navy
Thank you all for helping me 🙂
Modern problems require modern solutions
whats the cheapest mechanical keyboard
someone send me a vid of u smashing a keyboard i love destruction.
Eh, I don't really want to smash any of my keyboards. Except the Corsair k70 with MX reds.
You’ll have to be more descriptive. Are you looking for a specific type of switch? Are you looking for tenkeyless? Will it be a no go if you don’t have a Numpad?
Also, what are you using it for
ANYTHING just mechanical
idc bout quality if its like 10 bucks ill buy it for science lmao
…
Here you go.
Just a numpad
Like I am joking
But if you are buying this to use, I am going to recommend something in the $50 range. Otherwise, you start to get “mechanical” keyboards. Which i don’t know if you just want a $20 “mechanical” keyboard for your next tiktok loop
Redragon K552 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard RGB LED Rainbow Backlit Wired Keyboard with Red Switches for Windows Gaming PC (87 Keys, Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016MAK38U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EN0V4SSE0FE6W975GNW5?psc=1
i alr have a 65$ mechanical i just want one as a second one
i dont see the price
$29
Also this one
The second one is 60% but saves $10
There may be some for just a little bit cheaper
nevermind lmfao
i mean
i saw some "clickbait"
some dude
ordered
"5 dollar mechanical keyboard"
that is also waterproofed
Ooooh. You are wanting some “wish.com”/ “alibaba” clickbait garbage
Waterproof!!!
Wholesale Mechanical Keyboard Wired RGB LED Computer Gaming keyboard from Foshan Yayu Cheng Import & Export Co., Ltd. on m.alibaba.com
Have to order two, but 5.20 each
Hey, I'm new to building keyboards and I'm wondering where I should be looking for parts.
ShopMech and MechMap are two shop aggregators that can possibly help you out.
Thank you I'll have a look at them
Gotta know what to buy, though.
And what not to buy lol
If you're new, start with a hotswap board, where switches can be popped in and out at will without soldering.
Kbdfans?
thoughts on glorious g-lube? seems like its not rebranded krytox like some ppl thought initially
i can get it at a discount from work but idk if its worth it still lmao
ill have to check how cheap it gets lol... if its like $3 or under ill go for it lol
thanks! otherwise i will probably find somewhere to get more 205g0 as cheaply as possible
ah yeah
is the Keychron K3 good
Is it possible to swap a 2 pin switch with a 5 pin switch?
Yes. You either have to clip your switches or hope the socket supports it
Whats the diffrence between keyboards?
What should i look for for gaming?
Plz @me so i know someone responded
thats a very broad question
for gaming only thing really is that odds are youll be holding down several keys at once unlike typing so key roll over / antighosting number matters a bit more than for typing
for gaming just get something with gateron or cherry red switches
if you are buying a keyboard that doesnt have nkro in 2021 its probably crap
everything else is the same as normal. find a keyboard with the layout and keys you like
ehhhh. while i am a fan of reds when gaming theyre not for everyone
There are no specs i should look for?
thats also true
the things to pay attention to is layout and key type.
Damn this is kinda like getting a case, but easier
both of these things are personal preference though
yeah its really 100% up to personal preference
but i would say for gaming, tenkeyless layout (that means no numpad) and red or brown class switches
beyond that other highlights are really just quality of life things. is the cable detachable? backlit? etc
Huh ima go look
my go to keyboard when gaming is a bloody lightstrike with left side keypad
linear* not clicky for it
or a wooting for the analog keys sometimes. but uhh yeah not everything even supports it. but those are my big 2
but yeah i usually steer people towards a basic TKL with reds or browns for a first time good keyboard
yeah for sure. thats likely a great starting point
if entirely clueless id suggest the same
i mean im ever so slightly biased since i make more money if they buy something fancy but even so... usually the $250 razer boards are overpriced crap
razer anything is overpriced crap imo. very poor QC given the high cost and overall cheap builds. i have heard theyve improved but thats my current view of them
yeah and im not a huge fan of kailh switches either honestly
they started out as the "clone cherry switches as cheap as possible" brand when the patents first expired and theyve done nothing to convince me that they are doing better now
also afaik only cherry switches are now rated for 100m presses
lightstrikes are rated for 100m
I like kailh switches ... feels better to me than any cherry I've tried
Kailh box clicky are also the only clicky I can stand ...
Actuation ratings mean almost nothing, you will never even reach the 20mil actuations regular membrane keyboards are rated for
ehh. depends on the user. some of us type for so many hours a day that it can start to matter after a couple decades
yeh, razer is over priced. But if you could get their items for cheap, it'd be worth it
I got my razer mouse for 20$, that's lasting me more than 2yrs, so I'd say that's a good deal
suggestions for aluminum cases compatiable with gk61x, on a bit of a budget e white is prefered
viper mini?
What switch are you using?
Gateron blues
uhh yeah you're not gonna make that thock lol
yea lmao
Death adder essential
oh
how u like it?
i got a viper mini that i daily and a spare deathadder eliete
It's the same as the 60$ death adder, but without a few features
It's got the same feel and Everything, it's just missing the option to change it's rgb colour
Everything else can be changed in the software
nice
same sensor?
yeh
niceee
:>
im an average big hand small mouse man
Essentially What the tape mod does is act as a low pass filter, kind of reflecting lower frequencies/ absorbing higher frequencies, at least from the bottom-out. The click mechanism that gat blues use won't be as affected due to it being located higher up in the switch... and also basically having no low frequency response to speak of
Isn't surprising you're not getting a "thockier" sound out of a click switch, due to that
So I put tape on my pcb for no reason
yup
Well I mean it might have some effects, but to the extent of thock, it's likely doing little to nothing
Since you guys are smart at this stuff
A more 'marbled' or 'poppy' sound is still usually observable with clickies in my experience, but it isn't huge
Does Vaseline make keyboards Thoc
noooo
I would not put Vaseline in your switches lol
dont use vaseline
You'd be likely to damage your switch that way
it erodes them big time
and kill the clicks
Vaseline is pretty thick, if you put it in the wrong places or enough of it you'll turn your clicky switch into a tactile or linear
^
Ok
Is there a way to make a keyboard Thocc without lube
Well.. With gat blues it might be possible but it'd take some effort, It'd depend on your case/ the other components of your keeb
It would take some effort to do it with your current switches, if you swap them out it'd be significantly easier
Keychron c1
It's not hot swap
pepehands
lmao
You could buy switches and a cheapo soldering kit as well as a solder sucker
That's what I did (but I already have a soldering iron) to mod my blackwidow elite.
Takes some effort, time... And some cash honestly... But it's a fun experience imo and it can surprise people listening to a generic prebuilt that actually sounds quite good
Could I lube my Keyboard with desoldering
Lube... Your switches?
I don't follow
Yah
Well yes, but it's not going to be a great experience lubing clickies
If you want to replace your switches with tactiles or linears, yeah I might recommend it as well
So clickies can't be thocc
Well uh, not gat blues at least
Box navys or jades... Maybe
Whyyyyy
The best possible build:
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ScroppyIsDead/saved/#view=bBGQP6
What do yall think?
Wrong place my g. You just price sorted anyways lol, not too hard to do.
there are so many things more expensive than that
prolly
its the right place, (how do you think anal was invented)
Are you okay?
are abs or pbt keycaps better for holy pandas?
ABS wears like ass
very few people are actually hitting that number, but its still a very good indicator of overall quality and durability
also in terms of membrane switches rated for 10 or 20m actuations, i regularly get people coming in at work who have been using the same membrane keyboard for 10 or 15 years and wore it out - and often when i explain the lifespan ratings to them they're more than willing to upgrade to a mechanical keyboard for the durability
you'd be surprised how often it's relevant to people who aren't gamers or enthusiasts upgrading to the latest thing every few years
Hi, I am new here. Have been roaming around for a little bit suggestion. One of my friends suggested to ask me here. That is - I wanted to buy a wireless gaming keyboard. And I really like this two:
- ASUS Claymore II
- Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro - Green Switch
But, the problem is, I can't decide which one to get. Yes, considering the price - it's pretty high for me. Still, I want to get it as I don't want to switch anytime soon after getting any one of them. Can you suggest which one to get? Of course, I want the one that is long lasting.
If 2, which switches (Green or Yellow) to get?
Gaming keebs are generally a sham but do their job
Can always go custom
Choose what you want, what caps, cable, etc
Hi @velvet trellis thanks for the feedback. I am a bit confused because both of them are having each companies mainstream switches. Previously, I have used Corsair K68 with red switches. So if these two were having any of the Cherry switches I would get the one depending on the connectivity. However, they are not. ASUS one is having ROG RX RED Optical Mechanical Switch and Razer on is having their Green tactile/Yellow silent switches. Now in my mind - how are they compared to Cherry switches, will the key caps break (my one used to break to the point where caps are connected to the switches; not exactly break but kind of; it would still work) like Corsair one, the feeling of them (is ASUS one too smooth; same question for Yellow switches), etc. Obviously, durability being the main concern.
Durability is fine. Idk how caps break, thats insane. The yellows are smooth, linear switches so they won't have a bump or click when they actuate. The greens will have a bump to tell you you've pushed the button and has entered input.
They're both using dirt cheap switches so pick your poison
what is the cheapest hotswappabe keyboard out there
I will get the ROG one, maybe. IDK. 😦 Over here in Germany getting a US EN layout is a disaster.
Anyway, thank you for your time. Have a nice day. @velvet trellis
suggestions for aluminum cases compatiable with gk61x, on a bit of a budget e white is prefered
simply wrong pal
Wdym
is this keyboard good?
hard to say cheapest, i got a random brand ive never heard of off massdrop called "womier" for like $60 that is hot swappable and seems pretty solid
the gmmk modular ones are good too but prices can vary
also depends if you are looking to get a complete keyboard that is hot swappable down the line, or if you're just looking for the cheapest possible barebones board without switches or caps
you can probably get a GK61 clone for around $60 too without switches
but it really depends what size and layout you're looking for
actually also definitely depends on whether you're willing to buy it direct from china and wait 2 months
brothers i wanna build a fully custom keyboard around $200-$300 USD, size 60-65-tkl ish, what should i be looking at?
thanks g
looks good bro. what’s the best type of switches to put in a board liek that, accounting for the fact that it’s all metal?
and should i pay the $20 more to get the switches and key caps even if i swap the switches?
thats really up to preference. do you know what kind of switches you like?
i like tactiles n i can fw clicky, not much experience w linear. ik since it’s a metal board, wouldn’t clicky switches just resonate in the board and sound super metallic?
mm the board comes w foam i believe
it does but theres still issues
gotcha. my rk w box royals is alr loud asf so maybe something a little more muted
what kind of tactile switches do you like? ones with a big bump or small one?
Durock T1s have been recommended in the past for something budget and they have a big tactile bump apparently
In the MX range yea.
theres also boba u4t
i think i like a more prominent bump, i’ll look into those. i might go w some good linears that sound good jus to change it up
thanks man
np
if you wanna try some linears the q1's phantom reds are a good demo. they're an extra $20 anyways
mmm good shout 👍😼
you might as well anyways since its not much more
rught
thats a scam
I'd suggest the Kumara K552 Reddragon, it's about 35$ and has a very good build
Got the Womier K87 for $99 Cnd on Amazon. Solid board North face 5 pins PCB. With a little bit of time and love it sounds and feel pretty good.
Tried my best with the stabs but will eventually replace them.
yeah, definitely didn't mean to imply it was sketchy, just that i hadn't heard of them before - and I'm pretty impressed with it
Keychron K8 finally came in the mail today. Have to say, I'm pretty disappointed that the windows replacement keycaps that come with it are a slightly different grey than the rest of the keycaps
really more disappointed that I care so much because so far it's a great keyboard
I would be disappointed too. We expect custom keyboards to at least have better and more consistent aestetics than run of the mill generic ones.
No offense taken! I just shared mine so people could see and hear what it looks and sounds like.
yep! it's very helpful to have a sample, i appreciate it
Mine has Gateron reds, I changed the springs for 60g ones, lubed and filmed the switches, add thin foam between the PCB and bottom plate, lubed and band-aid the stabs and hand made the base ( painted white), and wrist rest (vinyl wraped) out of white cedar wood.
eh the k8 is a pre-built?
Ah! Didn't check if it was pre-built. My bad. Still disappointing that the caps colors is not the same for at least the set that comes with the keyboard.
yea, thats some qc issues that keychron need to sort out.
although, tbh, i feel like the intention of those caps is just to make to keyboard functional. its not exceptionally good quality or something, laser ablated abs caps is not the best by a long shot.
but who knows, maybe the mac caps with a different shade of gray is intentional.
Could be! All companies have their kweeks anyway. Even the ones that sells expensive parts make less then stellar parts sometimes.
I dont think it's intentional, it's a pretty close grey but when you look at it you can tell the windows caps are slightly darker for sure
welp, thats qc issue then.
Like Lâm said, it could be intentional
honestly think its QC, look how close it is
it'd be a weird choice for those 2 keys on either side of the keyboard to be very slightly darker but only if you swap out the mac caps for the windows caps
yea, i do think its qc
plus the replacement caps came in a separate bag so likely they were just made in a different batch than the rest of the keys that were pre-installed
Ill let them know, feel like they should be aware of that if they aren't already. good to know Im not just seeing things tho lol
Anyone know if the Asus tuf gaming K1 can have the keycaps replaced? The ones it has are badly designed, looks great from straight down, but at an actual using angle the keys are only half lit and look blurry
yes you can, with other mx mount keycaps
Sweet
That'll fix half the problems I have with this keyboard if I can get keycaps with better light diffusion
Steelseries apex pro or Razer huntsman elite
what’s some good rgb silencing white key caps for k87
Then what
Self explanatory key caps that hid the rgb more
Look at the buyers reviews, looks like most of them gave more then 4 stars. If it fits your budget and you like the colors. Keep in mind that they are not GMk caps. Might not be 100% perfect or super thick. But for the price they look good.
thin double shot caps are pretty rare but definetly exist
These do not look all that thick at all
I ordered these last night for $30 on Amazon.
how effective is poron at reducing case hollowness?
This is an other option in the same colors https://www.amazon.co.uk/YMDK-Switches-Mechanical-Keyboard(Only-Gradient/dp/B08MDZQQGG/ref=mp_s_a_1_61?dchild=1&keywords=gradient%2Bcolor%2Bkeycaps&qid=1630444764&sr=8-61&th=1&psc=1#
First, choose your budget, for what use ie gaming or work or both?, make a list of what you want on a keyboard ie full size, TKL, 60%., type of switches, linear, clicky, tactile, and watch good Youtubers like, Glarse, Shoobs etc. Then good luck for settling your choice on 1 KB 🤣
All it takes is one keeb to start a lifelong addiction...
Amen to that !
I’d take neither but out of those two the steel series
When I get new ones next week I'll post a picture with the new caps on my K87. Aside from the letters, the caps won't let light shine through at all. It will mute the RGB for sure.
hmm have you guys seen the portal65? Any thoughts on it?
only good 65/75 i've seen in a while
the hardest part of putting my keyboard list together has been key caps
hardest part is being in time, when what you want is limited, and you'll never see it again
any other fellow BOX Royal users?
I want to buy a gaming mechanical keyboard, which not only is cheap but good for gaming
A good mouse would be good to thx
does anyone have a link to an Australian custom keyboard company where i can design my own mechanical keyboard for ~150 AUD? or is that too low of a price?
Any mechanical keyboard that just works will work for gaming. The best is actually what you prefer.
My recommendation is get a linear switch. Those will make it so the tactile bump of tactile and click switches won’t be in the way when you go to press a key. This is good for gaming
Hey
this is a good starting point but i would say it's really just whatever feels most comfortable and most efficient to you
no offense, it's good advice i just think that "gaming -> reds" isn't always the answer
there's no such thing as gaming switches ... it's only a matter of preference
exactly
True, but at the same time blues or box whites or some of the crazy custom clickies wouldn't be my first recommendation either
I didn’t say get reds. I said get linears
In my experience (and logic) linears are better for gaming
However if they prefer tactiles for gaming that’s fine too
Light tactiles like browns are quite nice as well, heavy tactiles and clickies not so much
this should really be the only answer to "what switch should I get?" it's best to learn about how each switch is different, maybe order a few of each, and go with what you prefer
I gamed on blue and there's nothing wrong about it ... same for kailh box white
also there's the kailh speed bronze which is a clicky with click bar that is "made for gaming" cause of the spring weight, actuation distance and total travel ... it doesn't mean that it's better or worst than other switches ...
All I can say from personal experience is that from the dozen or so people I've introduced to mechanical keyboards and let try my collection of boards, not one picked a clicky board as their favorite (They were all gamers)
Still it's preference
it's not cause they gain an advantage with one type of switch vs another type of switch ... unless the switch is so bad that it's close to be declared broken
right but someone buying their first cheap mainstream mech is not going out there and finding some exotic group buy linear switch.... they're getting kailh, gateron, or cherry reds
1st dive in the switches sea
I didn’t say that either lol. I suggested linears and that was all
Can y’all recommend a gaming mouse?
- Must be FPS- or RTS/MOBA- style. (Could use something smooth & light but additional buttons for macros would be nice)
- Wired or Wireless (Don’t care, just not Bluetooth only & wireless must have dongle storage, USB C & an option to use with a wire would be nice)
- RGB or not(don’t care about lighting but I already use Corsair iCUE for other stuff)
- Infinite scroll would be nice(like Logitech Hyperscroll but if it’s available on other brands)
- adjustable weights for FPS style would be nice
same, im in the market for a weright adjustable wireless mouse myself
my last one just died on me 5 minutes ago, cant tell if its because of the mouse, the receiver, or the usb port
yadda yadda there is no "gaming switch" but like, as a first time switch linears are like the easiest to get into. you'll be able to decide whether you like them from there or prefer tactiles
i didnt say they were a gaming switch i said i recommend them for it....
yeah i was just saying re: past replies
that and cherry mx browns or any light tactile switch. best way to decide what you want in a board imo
tactility in mx browns is light enough that you can at least picture what it's like to have linears and the bump is present enough to decide if you like tactility and want more out of it at all
Swiftpoint Z gang
You guys know if kailh pro burgundy housings are going to be similar/identical to cherry mx housings (black, red, whatnot) or not? [www.upgradekeyboards.com/product/kailh-pro-switches/]
Hey Guys, anyone knows a mechanical Logitech keyboard with a wrist rest, but without the numpad?
since i have a g502 mouse wich is wireless too, can i use the same adapter for them? Like the one for my mouse is pretty close to it, so can i use the one for the keyboard to?
Im a bit confused, what adapter are you talking about?
I was going to say no because Ive never heard of that being possible
but Logitech has "unifying" software that can apparently allow you to do exactly what you are looking for, link both wireless logitech devices to the same receiver
so yes I guess lol
you 3d printed a prong style top housing with 3 prongs?
yeah, with 4 but 2 broke lol

cherry sized top piece, on an outemu base
very interesting, still 2 prongs broke is not great for key wobble imo
more of a proof of concept, gotta modify the file to be compatible and it should be fine
Cherry top kailh / outemu bottom
how does it look like?
how does the space bar look like atm?
on the keyboard
also, you can use virtual keyboard for space
can i have a pic?
spacebarsreallyarentthatnecessaryanyways
gotta clip that wire back on the two thingies before pushing it on
Does anyone know about rk61?
I have a problem with my rk61
All of my key suddenly stopped working and the keyboard is glitching my pc
I can't press anything
And when I try to reset my keyboard by hitting fn space bar it won't work either
And my window key keep lighting up
thats indication for windows key lock
I though it was at first but I tried fn and click it
It won't turn off
Plus all of my key isn't working
The keyboard also messed with my pc, when I click a video on YouTube it download the html file of the video
some spot under the pcb being shorted is my guess
but im not sure tbh.
I did spill some water on it but not alot
But it didn't even when down the base
Just on a keycaps
seems like one of your alt keys is being pressed
I can buy a returned laptop from amazon for a really good price
but the keyboard is portugese
anyone know what the looks like?
Nice
The one you like the most.
Finally got my first mechanical keyboard and its so clicky I love it
no like whats a one with a good quality case, plate which u can change the materail and good pcb
So basically
The one you like the most.
I'm sorry if I sound very unhelpful but this hobby is very subjective. On KBDFans alone there's half a page full of barebones and complete keyboards for under $150 USD.
https://kbdfans.com/collections/fully-assembled-keyboard?sort_by=price-ascending
Even more options if you buy individual parts yourself, which you can do there as well.
It would be an entirely different story for ultra-budget options, because there's not a lot to go around there.
thank you
thank you
It does however it is sold out
Decided to buy a sub 30usd mech keeb JUST to practice lubing, if its a 60% layout, how much lube do I need?
5mL should be plenty?
5mL is more than enough
Aight
Thanks
Any rookie mistakes in lubing that I would like to keep in mind?
Don’t overlube, that’s an important one
Three strokes each part right?
Yeah just some light even coats. I’d follow a lubing tutorial
Are you lubing linears or tactiles?
If I'm going for a white/pastel purple with a little bit of pink setup theme, what would be a great colour for a custom sleeved coiled cable? White, pink, gray?
anyone know good keyboard sites i can go to get switches/board etc (looking for bananas, tangerines, novel cream, etc.)
whatever u like
Mechmap and Shopmech are aggregator sites, so you can look for the stuff you need without having to search for each site yourself.
oh ty
Happy to help.
I was asking for help since I was having a hard time trying visualize which one would look better
you mean low profile?
means laptop like tight keys
hey your pfp says you're stuck in the washing machine 🤣 So sarcastic 😂
Do you want a laptop with a mechanical keyboard, or do you want a keyboard that looks like a laptop's?
a keyboard that looks like laptop
umm somewhat
what's different?
I mean how I can now type from my laptop is so tight so just like that
like apple keyboard
i don't know about the others, but I'm having a difficult time understanding you, sorry
Anyways first get out of that damn washing machine
he wants scissor switch keyboard is my read
all I got from him is that he wants a low profile keeb
What does it mean tho?
@grizzled parcel
Did you want a slim mechanical keyboard or a mechanical keyboard on a laptop?
slim mechanical keyboard
I was answering
to rephrase, what would you think would look better in your opinion, I'm trying to look for second opinions
Orange
ahh, thanks!
White pink or grey
Um
I would say white pink ir Grey would be a nice choice
White will get dirty too easily so grey
aight, thanks alot for you input :D
What input
Audio?
input here means opinion.
Oooh thanks for the input?
yep
Anyone have a wireless mechanical keyboard they are in love with?
Keychron offerings?
I really love my brother's Jelly modded RK84. It sounds really good for the price, though the software is trash.
You can also buy a separate numpad.
Where can I buy custom keycaps for the 4 keys in the top right hand corner of a 110% keyboard
any recommendations for white fingertip grip mouse around the 25-40USD range?
you guys know of any keycap set that has the same look and feel of the sega teradrive keyboard? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFGkz3XvuSM
Skip to 9:17 for a typing demonstration.
Today we look at one of the prettiest keyboards ever made, as well as the most mechanical-sounding one I've ever heard. Quite a lot to talk about, then. Hope you enjoy the video! :)

what does hot removeable independent switch means
does it mean that you can only chang your switches with the same type of switches or what
change*
It means the switch can be removed without solder
Np
Should i get the gk61?
Nice, keyb channel
Sound test of Akko's Ocean blue switches (lubed) on my Womier K87
is the viper mini white?
me likey
Not too shabby for cheap switches and keycaps
indeed
Hi can anyone help with my keyboard draconic k530
The light up ones are not working and others keys are just working fine
What's wrong with it ?
And the battery indicator is also white
Did you drop liquid on it buy any misfortune?
I just cleaned the key caps and the switches i just brushed them
The lights were working fine before you cleaned it ?
Yeah i turned the lights off but the 3 E D X
Wont turn off and when you press it it does nothinf
You could try to open it, spray electric contact cleaner on all the contact points on the PCB and use air pressure to dry everything off.
I'm pretty sure some of whatever you used to clean found its way onto the PCB.
You gonna blow a bunch of dust from the vaccum. Buy some compressed air cans instead.
Hi so i want to get a mechanial keyboard and mouse setup (if possible with a extended rgb mouse pad even non rgb will be fine if rgb isnt possible) and my budget is a max of 20,000 lkr any suggestions?
and the switch type idk what its called but i love the keyboard on the HP pavilion keyboards idk what switches they are
anybody?
Pavillon keyboard is a membrane type.
This might help you https://leaguefeed.net/best-low-profile-mechanical-keyboards/
yeah I have decided I need to get a portable mechanical keyboard for my roadwarrior setup. I mean, it doesn't HAVE to be mechanical, but it has to be bluetooth, and not shit.
Budget and form factor ?
There's a shiiit ton of bluetooth 60% keyboards but not that much tkl.
It's also the peripheral chat but yeah lol
A car is a car and yet there are thousands and thousands of different models at all price points.
yeah we can say that about anything ...
Yeah
A phone is a phone and yet most of us aren't running the most basic of smartphone.
Or how most drivers aren't driving a Mitsubishi Mirage.
There's luxury somewhere.
Some more than others.
This channel is to discuss the luxury side of keyboards. There’s a surprisingly big community for it
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Wireless-Bluetooth-Portable/dp/B07S34MJD7/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=rk71&qid=1568599321&s=gateway&sr=8-1&linkCode=sl1&tag=techsource02-20&linkId=107d36c89c109ecf89bc76b4843a5e9a&language=en_US&th=1&psc=1
Is this a good budget keyboard I was recommended rk61 is this better and it also comes with a mouse I plan on using this as a temporary mouse till I can afford something better and also since this is a combo for around 60 want a mousepad as well extended and rgb if possible
And all things peripherals
Any help? ^^^
chill man
It's been like three minutes lmao
I didn't even finish typing
My brother has an RK84 and it's pretty good for the price. Sounds hollow because of the lack of case foam but becomes a lot better when Jelly modded, as usual. Software is trash, though, so if you really want remappable keys you'll have to look elsewhere.
Is it much more than the 71 in price? And does it come with a mouse?
Not sure if there's an RK84 bundle.
I mention it because it's from the same company and they're usually pretty good when it comes to budget hotswap keyboards. I've tried the RK84 and 61 and both were nice.
That keyboard you sent is probably good
I would prefer the rk84 as it has the usb hub but the keyboard alone goes to the max of my current budget with shipping I will get to know if it will increase in a few days if it dosent I will go for the 71
My budget is 100usd for people wondering with shipping to sri lanka
are gateron browns good?
ive tried them. they feel like linears with a very small tactile bump. whether you like that or not is up to you
they are better than cherry switches tho right?
Gateron are less scratchy
what do you mean by that
When you depress the switch, you can feel the friction between the stems and the housing (stock unlubed).
Are you gonna only game with your keyboard ? Or use it for work/school too.?
depends on what level ur talking abt
hyperglides > any stock cherry/gateron board
but inks are smoother than hyperglides
but personally im more focused on sound so hyperglides > black inks
only time i think they sound better is on a pom plate
Well, I was comparing the regular cherry and gateron
When you make the jump to switches over 0.90$ a piece it's an whole other story.
hyperglides are mad cheap for what they are tho
45c ish per
and inks are around 78c
only switches above 90c are zeal switches, vintage shit, and frankenswitches
nothing compares to jwicks on a price to perf fr
also
does anyone mind if i do a wttf type post here
cuz mechmarket and tiktok servers mad dry
WTTF: JELLY EPOCH OR 7V
CURRENTLY HAVE: FULLY BUILT GRID 650: built w lubed holy bobas, durock v1 on all 2u mods, sb durock v2 holee modded (all stabs lubed), and random bow keycap set i found in my drawers (could be geekark but im not sure), also have UTD 360c EXTRAS, WILL ALSO ADD EXTRA MONEY VIA PAYPAL
also interested in a MODE80, think6.5, F1-8x
ahh yes ebay, only the best aftermarket for kbs
would yall get a metal or plastic keycap puller - can i get a link for a good cheap? one (amazon us)
really any one that looks liek this is fine
anything that looks like this one works fine
ok
Hey that’s mine
d
D?
D
d~
eez
d-d-d-d D
mmmmmmhhhh, yes b r o w n switches....
or are they?
worst keyboard i ever had
the fake blues were bad, but the stablizzer on the spacebar killed me
and what were you expecting
Best gateron switch for gaming?
The best switch for gaming is the one you like the most.
There is no science behind what's the best.
I was deciding between red and yellow
But if you wanted fast actuation times, then there are switches for that.
I always hear good things about Gat yellows and how they're one of the best budget switches so maybe try that.
Lube em up
Thank you, another question do i get wired or wireless keyboard
Do you need a wireless?
Not necessarily
Then you don't really need to go for it. Especially if it's Bluetooth and not 2.4 GHz.
Ok thanks alot
Happy to help.
why the RGB
why not lol
Am I the only person who hates RGB
I'll turn RGB off if it doesn't serve me a purpose
RGB provides options
It's just that a lot of people choose rainbow puke lmao
cring
I don't have an RGB keyboard but back when I did I set it to white or purple
Has anyone used openrgb and what was it on?
wdym by what was it on?
Just used to sync RGB across different brands but I need to how is it to use, not many videos on it
oh, so each supported device will have its own tab, you click on the one you want to customize
looks like this
and then choose effects, etc on the right
What keyboard do you use with it
i use a gk61x
which is not supported by openrgb
Is it easy to use tho
for me, yes
but partially because theres little that i can do with my mouse and its basically the same as the 1st party software (g hub/lgs)
Thanks for the help
what do i use to lube my stabs ?
you can use dielectric grease for cheap solution
krytox gpl 205g0 is also good for that
I use 205g0
can i lube switches with dielectric grease ?
no
which ones better ? replace the switch or just buy a new keyb ?
Like all the switches?
Might be a PCB issue. How much was that keyboard
its a corsair k95 platinum
Guess I’ll look it up
from like 2017 or 2018
besides i hated the current switch too, its thhe one withh 1.2mm actuation point
Alright if you like the housing of it that much I’d say just replace the switches but since it’s not hotswap that’s a lot of work and you might not wanna bother
So I’ll lean towards replace it
ive fixed another k95 before after someone spilled drink on it i desolder every switch clean it, ,making it better than factory in the end
Well you know what you are doing and if you wanna go through the effort sure
That’s an expensive keyboard anyways
what could be the cause for thhose double clicks ? i tried contact cleaner on all switches
Pcb damage or switch damage perhaps?
ill have to examine it physically
double click is the only problem other thhan that it works just fine
its not an actual HyperX, it's a $31 Kogan Mechanical Browns TKL with hyperx keycapz
What's a quality set of shine through keycaps that look somewhat like this
Im putting them on a keychron q1 and don't want it to look like a rainbow mess
does anyone know how to upgrade a corsair k95 platinum?
Another person?
Upgrade how?
like make it better
Is the hyperx alloy origins 60 good?
not sure if this is really classified as "keyboards" but it does fairly go with it. lets say im getting one of those cool looking mousepads on amazon, how do they compare against gaming mousepads? are they worse?
Which mousepad?
That doesn’t answer my question
i can't have custom rgb
Take apart keyboard, remove RGB LEDs, put back together, done

You could change the keycaps or if you want to go through the effort, change the switches
Change the switches, foam mod, etc
Theres alot of things you can do to improve a leyboard
You can’t really “upgrade” your keyboard by definition. You can only customize it
But I guess if you have cheaply made switches, switching them with Cherry MX or something else would technically be an upgrade
You can upgrade the feel and sound sort of
Like lubing, filming, tape modding, foam modding etc
i don't have a desolderer
PE foam/Jelly mod is overpowered lol
I've done it three times and every single time it made the keyboard sound much better.
IMHO, anyway.
You can always turn off the backlight.
what’s foam mod
The PE foam mod (also called the "Jelly mod") is where you place a piece of PE foam between the plate foam and the plate (or the PCB and the plate) and pierce your switches through it.
ye but i can't see the letters
what does it do
Then turn the backlight white lol
remember where the keys are then
IM 14 CHILL
Off the bat, it gives it a much deeper sound, but it depends on the keyboard. It made my GMMK Pro sound much more like gently flicking marbles into each other and I love it.
It made my brother's RK84 and his friend's RK61 sound more like a smooth chalk run on a freshly cleaned chalkboard.
It sounds really pretentious describing it but I think it's better than just saying "it sounds poppy" because that doesn't really help lmao.
so am I

ay uwu
Some people are concerned about static charge building up, but as long as you don't move around a lot with your keyboard or as long as you have plate foam, you should be alright.
Don't get it confused with the "foam mod" though, where you put a sort of foam underneath the PCB.
Or more foam, if your keeb already has it.
Your LEDs are built into the PCB so I doubt you can change them at all.
Your best bet is to just set your keyboard to white LED.
de-solder them all
i can't lmao
Why not?
Anything wrong with single colour?
it came like this
no li,e it looks bad
Fair.
It's not worth the effort.
But that's just me.
hmm
is there a way
to like
add a plastic cover on the leds
so they look kinda the same
You could tape some translucent plastic on the back of each keycap.
ye, what colour
Depends on what colour you want it to turn into.
idm as long as they one coliur
I need a compact keyboard, u got any advice?
Hhkb
+1
Where r u
Oh n layout must be w the Nordics
Ok nvm
Home, u want chipies?
This is hhkb
But no Nordic layout
Imo it is the best OEM board to exist
There’s unsilenced and non-bt version as well, and a blank option
Keychron K1 is an ultra-slim wireless mechanical keyboard. With Gateron low profile red, blue, brown switch. Wireless and type-c wired mode. Mac layout, compatible with Mac, Windows. Aluminum frame. 18 types of RGB backlight included white LED.
I just bought one of those to go with my roadwarrior battlestation setup
Interesting choice; low profile switches always felt a little out of place but keychron always has some rather quality products for the pricepoint
So I initially had a budget of usd100 and now it increased to Abt USD 180 and I need a keyboard and a mouse I was thinking of the atom 60 and the razor viper mini is that a good selection or...
Do you have any preferences?
So as long as it works, it should be fine.
And it should have rgb
And if possible a 100% keyboard
Also a USB hub is a nice to have
And a quick response is always appreciated
This is not required
But I currently use a 100% keyboard so...
Tkl is a good gap between full and 60%
Never tried it? Looks good for the price. Go watch this for more info on it. https://youtu.be/IZr3sk9OpeU

That's where I found it was initially going for the gk71 I think it's called
That
Not a fan if 68%, bottom row is not standard. But you do you! in the end you're the one using it. Not us. I think at $50 the Atom60 is a better choice and less of a risk if you don't like sff keyboards. Can easily sell.
@hasty saffron I'm not arguing you, this is from their own product page.
yeah just fixed it,have been using this rig for like 2 years and that's never happened
From the pictures the caps from the bottom row look like my K95. That's what I meant.
yeah - I'm trying to built a relatively light and compact but full productivity setup that I can fit in a bag, so I can setup in about 5-10min and work anywhere. So low profile switches are perfect.
yeah, although it's not really great for gaming because it doesn't have N-key rollover; only two-key
but it's still one of the best typing keyboards lol
Most keyboards dont tho right?
I mean the Model F does becuase its not a membrane keyboard
most mechanical boards are NKRO iirc
and yeah, the Model F is fully mechanical; the Model M is technically a membrane
well at least most of them i see on the market lol
for mechanicals, most switches are based off the Cherry MX design, but there's still a lot of ways you can modify that design to make it feel unique
ah yeah, i know the kind; i have one myself lol
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=6169 this is what i was looking for basicly
but the thing is that cherry isn't the only manufacturer of switches of that shape and shit
I wish bucking spring was open source ...
lol
https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/ then theres this
which is 355 $
so i mean
like. they exist for me. but its 400 usd
and thats kinda crazy if you ask me
oh, interesting; i didn't know there was a revival of the Model F
unicomp's been making new Model M's for like a decade now
yeah. I like the endura pro. the trackpoint seems to be what im looking for
really ? im not sure thats how that works
i have a ton of old shitty keyboards with a ps/2 connector
lol
It's why some gaming mobos have them.
All because of NKRO.
And latency.
And some fighting games. But yeah, mostly rhythm games.
yeah. the model m seems to be the only alternitive for me probably
well, your options are to find a vintage one; good call if you don't mind not having windows keys
or to get one of the unicomp boards
i dont have windows keys now
i use alt f1
and because im on a model f. its really easy. with one hand
because the f keys are in 2 colloms
ayy, nice
which I love
its really nice
I originally got this keyboard. with a budle with the Actual computer IBM 5150
for a really good price
I think using any other keyboard will be really weird
F good
Ps/2 based but I think I’m gonna move to usb to make use of monitor’s built in kvm once I’m swapping btwn desktop and laptop
i was thinking in switching to a dock solution.
rather than having one of my desktops
i have an insanely powerful desktop
but it doesnt make sense
to have. ill be commuting back and forth due to school
Yeah, that’s why I’m getting a laptop
Got a monitor with USB c so 1 cable to dock laptop will be convenient
I have an x1 extreme gen 2
I want an x2100 sooooo bad
x2100 ?
X210 with custom mobo
Yeah
Idk there’s a pricing page
Sub 1.5 iirc
Still too much to justify for me for little practical benefit
1.5k?
Yeah
Doesn’t include:
RAM (DDR4 SODIMM)
SSD (M.2 NVMe / 2.5″ / mSATA 6gbps)
CMOS Battery (From X201/X200)
Battery (From X201/X201)
Not that I’m aware of but I’d be happy to be proven wrong
looks like one hell of a hack
Oh yeah got to keep keyboard channel on topic - hhkb best portable board
nice
Yeah it’s soo cool
I love the old thinkpads
Whats the thing in back
Contour rollermouse
Ooh you got one of those
why not just use a nub
How stupid is it to use
Oh really? Neat
I use my thumb to operate so there’s next to no hand movement
I took a vid a short while ago lemme find
The learning curve was quite short for m
I think the thinkpad nub is better
imo
Yeah but can’t get fancy kustom keyboard with thinkpad nub
I said kustom
gotcha
Shinobi is cool to see though
im so upset that there isnt a good key switch for me to use with her
I can’t type on spherical caps sadly. For mx my preferences are cherry > dcs > oem, and I’d rather not type on anything else
I was taking abt keycap profiles but that’s fair too, I have friends who adore their buckling springs
I like lighter tactility
I want a keyboard with a 10 keyless layout. and instead of the navcluster i want a number pad
I use cherry picked vintage cherry mx browns in my kustom, and silenced 30g topre in my hhkb
Yeah
but $$$?
Ai03 has a good tutorial
No actually
At least the pcb design side is relatively cheap
Jlcpcb/pcbway
Is that your main mouse?
custom pcb with a custom layout
Yeah. I don’t play shooters (or any games really)
Yea
like legit i could have bucking springs. a thinkpad nub. and the f keys in 2 a columms
Not even like a normal mouse just in case?
Not just for games like in general
I have a g305 at my second setup because I haven’t gotten around to buying a second rollermouse just yet
Well you’re quite brave i must say
