no keyspresso don't have them in stock
oof
Oh, well I don't know.
Ahh box browns
silent ...
I meant that
How scratchy are they
not that bad ... way less than cherry brown
I don't notice it when typing ... only if I actuate them really slowly
I don't really know what to lube in a silent switch ... will the rubber bumper be altered by the lube ?
I don’t think it’s a good idea to lube silent switches but not sure
same I'm not sure
maybe not the sliders but just the like bump place I don't know what it's called in english
maybe the stem
wristrest coming along well https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/167661427862142976/863379452062203924/IMG_20210710_142123.jpg

Hi so i am planning on investing in my first mechanical keyboard and i wanted something for under $50 as i want to try and get a keyboard and mouse for $75 or under. so is this a good keyboard?
Tecware Phantom 87 Key Mechanical Keyboard

Buy Tecware Phantom 87 Key Mechanical Keyboard, RGB led, Outemu Brown Switch: Keyboards - Amazon.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases
honestly spending that little on mechanical keyboard is not worth it @pine merlin
for that kind of price you should probably check out the redragon keyboards ... about as good as it gets for 50$
and check out the logitech g102 for the mouse ... inexpensive but it gets the job done quite nicely.
but yeah I would try to save more for the keyboard ....
the issue with the reddragon keyboards are that they all dont have addressable rgb
I don't care about rgb so that's not an issue for me ... also the rgb one can do some static color through hardware mode and also there's some basic effects
the most annoying thing about redragon keyboard are the switches
just don't get the rainbow one ... it's awful
any suggestions for a keyboard if i am getting the g102 i can get that for $25 is that a good price or is it overpriced
I think it's its normal us price ...
any keyboard recomendations as i have never used a mechanical keyboard ever and want to invest in one
techware phantom is a good starter
@pine merlin honestly we cna't recommend specific switch for you
you need to test which keyboard switch you like yourself
they're so subjective to personal taste
keyboard switch makes or breaks the whole typing/gaming experience for me at least
do you have stores nearby where you can test common types?
just to test, not to buy yet.
yes
Go to store and test and see which type you liked the most
after that we can help you quite a lot more once we know what type of switch you like the most
and any brand recomendations or is the phantom good enough to start
linear or clacky or tactile
also the g102 is that good
riskable? no
79% done , 4 hours to go 😄
you know how scared I am that it'll fall over
it's literally staying on that build plate with magic by now
with fdm, not a good idea
with resin,sure
yeah i'm looking at his github
oh, he's printing with FDM
impressive
Anyone got any recommendations my keyboard just broke at first it was just o and now it's that whole role I have around £70 to get a new one and I want to have hot swap and maby wirelles but at that price
preferred layout?
60-75
gamakay k61, gamakay/womier k66
good old gk61xs (that doesnt come with gateron opticals)
Ok thanks I do allready have some milky yellows and keycaps but I only have 65 milky yellows
then barebone gk61xs is a thing
barebone gmmk compact is too
not optimized since guy already has cap and switches
oooh
ok
thanks for bringing that up
i think gat reds are too heavy for me
they just feel like bc of the weight my fingies slip off
It's still standing!
And it's finally finished!
they just dont feel right to me
all done, so excited
will be taking it off the platform once everything has cooled down and testing it 🙂
Curious to see if i'll need to figure out some sort of coating or skin to it as cushioning or if hard plastic will be fine
well
it's.. nice 😮

I'm surprised how well this turned out @hoary trail 🙂
ignore the dirty keyboard it's paired with, that's not the one it's gonna go with
Does anybody know where to start looking to do a custom keyboard?
I'm just looking to start figuring out what key switches I want to change to and what kind of price I would have to pay for all the parts
I guess it mostly comes down to price and preference.
The safest route I can think of is an RK84, and then changing the switches and keycaps as you please.
Right now I've got a corsair k70 with cherry browns
I would recommend doing to following
- first, find out the size of board you want
- then, find the type of switch you want (clicky, tactile, linear)
- then, find the weight you want
- if you have a decent idea of what you want from those two, order a tester with a few switches that would fit it... it's not quite the same as a board, but gives a decent idea of what each switch is like
- from there, see what you end up with as a list of requirements
- then it just depends on what your idea is from there what your budget should be for it
then again, Corsair is a rather low standard if you go into many more enthusiast oriented keyboards and there are many better tactile switches than your usual brown switch
I'm wanting to stick with a tactile switch but not a click one, I'm unsure of the weight that I want, maybe a bit heavier than the cherry browns. As for size I'm undecided between a 60% and a 100% again.
nice to see someone else getting rid of their k70 too @tame moon
It's served me well but I'm looking to move up
I ended up going with GMMK full size as first step-up as I wanted full-size ISO layout (big enter key)
and hotswap
didn't want to do any soldering 😄
just plop the switches in and yolo
Sounds like you might like a Durock T1 or a Drop Halo Clear.
I'd heard good things about the zealios v2
Halo clear is Kailh, not drop
zealios are decent, but for one really expensive
and there's something you'll have to get used to
something like a brown has the tactile force around the middle
zealios has it right on top
https://www.pcgamingrace.com/collections/keyboard @tame moon look into this then 🙂
readily available frame, comes in different sizes and layouts
you just add switches and keycaps
if you're into full sized, it's one of the most available options. in TKL side there's tons of options otherwise too
its on of the few iso options also
though i do not have experience with them, i have heard that Boba U4T punch above their weight in terms of price
the regular Boba U4 is for silence and is also good if you want that
what other sites would i want to look at to start buying parts?
depends where in the world you are.
if you're in USA you'd probably want US sites when possible, if EU european 😉
im based in canada
thanks
im not really sure, im used to how the cherry browns feel
actually yes, and maybe have a higher actuation force
im a pretty heavy typer so anything more would be nice
what do you mean?
gotta have that max actuation force, I want to have to use a ballpeen hammer to type
yeah, lets go with more force to overcome the bump
So what switch should I go with?
I like dis infographic
As someone who really never considered anything but TKL or 100% before, actually useful
how rare
So from what I'm understanding I should get a gmmk board and put in Boba u4t switches
i think thats supposed to come out this month right?
i wanna get one of those with reds, steal the switches for my current board and get something else
then ill keep my k2 as a backup
unless it comes with yellows then ill get those
keychron makes a board with gateron yellows
i was wrong, they stopped making it
they do make these in the k12
@hasty saffron im okay with it being kinda loud just not clicky like a blue
Hmm
thats neat
Alpacas vs Durock L2 /L3 vs Healio v2
if these are good thats an amazing deal
indeed
though they are optical
they sell ink blacks for a dollar a switch damn
https://furiku.dev/chrome_d40hhRhhCh.png assortment i just ordered
missing alpacas still i think at least
whats different with the new keychron?
Gasket mounting instead of the traditional tray mount that keychorn has been doing
Its basically a gmmk pro competitor
oh yeah the c1 is basically a gmmk clone
It I order 9 of these it will be enough for a tkl right
First time ordering switches I’m so cautious
you need 83 so yeah 9
K thanks
np
Holy shit 18$ shipping
ouch
have a look at these. i dont know if they are pre-lubed but they could help save you money maybe

get 7 12 packs
nvm its also 18
is it going to be coming out in 100%?
100%? the layout?
yeah
nah its 75%
wired or wireless?
either i guess but i think id prefer wired just so that i dont have to deal with charging it
Keychron C2 Mechanical Keyboard. Full-size 104-keys Layout. Connects via wired type-c cable and users can hot swap every switch in seconds with the hot-swappable version. Compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux. Gateron Switches. 15+ RGB Backlight
hows this
id recommend hotswap btw
i was looking for hotswap
then there you go
rgb too
get the blue switch one because its in stock, you can get any switches you want later
what switches would you recommend for someone whos coming off of cherry browns and is looking for something a bit heavier?
how heavy do you think you want? gateron browns are 55 grams
cherry is probably the same
i think the cherries are 55 grams as well
holy pandas are 67
are they compatible?
i was also looking at the gmmk white ice edition, would that be a better board?
maybe, but the keychron c2 is half the price if you wanna save
if you like the look the white ice better then perhaps its worth it. the gmmk is also probably supported by via and has better build
i do kinda prefer the white ice color scheme
then sure it could be better to look into
im just trying to get a feel for what my options are, im very new to the keyboard scene and have no clue what sites to even browse to look at this stuff
@ionic briar anything you wanna add on here?
hexgears gk705 is another one
but software customizability is another step down
it does come with box white tho, if youre into clickies
i want to stay away from clickies
yea
then it comes with box red linear, which is just a fine linear, nothing special
box brown for tactile, the tactility is nice but due to how the actuation mechanism work it might turn into scuffed clicky once the lube wears out
okay so then its not exactly something super premium
i mean with your budget all the boards would be in the entry level boards
i havent even decided on a budget yet
im just trying to gauge what everything costs and what i think i would like
all that ive decided on so far is that i want a heavier tactile switch than a cherry brown and a 100% layout
it could fail anywhere between 50 usd and 5k usd
thats quite a range, id probably want to try and stay under 300 usd
and the market for full size custom is pretty scarce
usually a tkl with a seperate numpad yields better results in terms of in stock boards
i kinda want to keep it together as one unit but i guess id be open to having them seperate
what sites would you recommend looking at to get a feel for this
okay, ill give it a look
you can pretty much give up on a nice custom fullsize
those things are rare as hell and they usually never run because everyone is too busy drooling over 75% or whatever layout is the coolest at the time
and also the price for low quantity full size are much more expensive
so the maker doesnt have much initiative to start with
im stil tryna decide between kbd67 r2 or id80 v2
so what you're saying is that im pooched
mm?
you can still go the way of modding old boards
the land of flippers
lmao
but again, you have to know which boards are good to start modding
right now ive got a k70 with cherry browns
https://kono.store/products/hexgears-impulse-mechanical-keyboard
you might be interested in this
although the box brown might become scuffed clicky later on

this is a barebone kit for you
would it be a good idea to go for a barebones?
sort of
you can freely customize your switches, keycaps and fix stuff that usually shit in soldered prebuilt like stabilizers
ofc with the barebone only has the case, pcb and sometimes stabs
the price might be more expensive than a similar spec prebuilt
id be okay with paying a bit more
so then on top of the barebones kit id need to find switches, keycaps and potentially stabilizers
yep
that particular prebuilt comes with stabs
but the quality is shit iirc
so where would i go to find quality ones?
where are you from>
canada
Durock Plate Mount Stabilizers are a great way to upgrade your stock plate mount stabilizers. Simply apply a little bit of lube to the wire and housing, then you're good to go! Specifications: Plate mounted Black housing Unclipped What's included in each kit? 1x 6.25u or 7u stabilizer 3x 2u stabilizers or 4x 2u stab
okay, and i was recommended boba u4t switches, do you think those would be a good fit for someone coming from cherry browns and looking for something heavier
if you also looking for something that feels massively more tactile than mx brown
then yes
so a bigger feeling bump?\
yep
okay
and if instead i were to omit the idea of staying 100% and going to a tkl what would you reccomend?
theres currently idobao id87 crystal live
from the renders, looks like its a gasket mounted, clear acrylic tkl
This is a GB ,only inclue Keyboard kit,Not include switch with Keycaps Hello, everyones: Please note that this is a Group Buy. There can be delays and set backs. The timeline is only an estimate. the aluminum version utilize top mount instead of gasket mount
and thats worse?
well if you dont like rock solid bottom out feel like 90% of custom mech members atm
its not necessary a bad thing
it might sounds pingy
but again, you might not even care
so many things about peripherals comes down to preference that its hard to say anything are definitely bad or good
nope
that just means the hotswap socket comes from kailh
any mx style switches with 3 or 5 pin can fit in that
white led is not enough?
id preferably be going with a purple theme
damn it the led is smd and not tht
i have no clue what that means
pcb termology
smd means surface mounted devices
tht means through hole technology
Include Aluminum top and bottom case Brass Weight Brass full Plate KBD8x MKII PCB Cherry screw-in stabilizers screws and rubber feet KBD8X MKII Assembly Service: click this link PCB features: - In-switch backlighting - Num lock indicator/backlight switch - Dual flex slot cutouts - RGB underglow - USB Type C - ES
this pcb has rgb key lighting iirc
or at least the ability to solder in your own through hole led
i dont know if i would trust myself to do that
Does anybody know any budget wireless hot swap boards?
Hello, can you please help me to find the best keyboard that suits my preference?
- To me keyboard layer does not matter
- I want optical Switches (Red/Brown) from LK mainly
- I want it to be hot-swappable.
- Aluminum case
- Brass plate
- Both wired (USB type C) and wireless (Both Bluetooth 5 & 2.4 GHz)
- RGB with backlighting
8.Fully programmable
I have less idea about keyboards. I really do not know if it is possible to meet all the criteria? Please mention the price and link.
Thanks in advance.
@somber rune lmao the brass plate alone coasts more than a one2sf
Aluminum case with a rgb hotswapp pcb
plus usb-c and bluetooth
dang the cost for that one would be atleast 300-350$
not to mention keycaps and switches.
u should just make a custom keyboard that would be better @somber rune
Spec sheet
Tofu60 with a pcb, plate(not brass) and stabs - 160$ ish
brass plate - 60-80$ depends
gat yellow switches 70pcs - 25$
A actually nice looking set of keycaps - 40$ atleast. GMK's are - 200$ and up
dampening foam - 10-15$
note:
-
bluetooth unlikely
-
optical switches near impossible
-
and obviously a expensive board
I hear about this but there’s also keychron’s stuff.

Those caps aren't shine through
Just saying I won’t it to look like that where it’s all black with the shine through rgb
what are good tactile box switches that aren't kailh
are there Box switches period that aren't Kailh
you mean box switches that arent manufactured by kailh?
yep, i'm not aware of any
i mean why do you need clone of a switch thats technically taking advantage of an expired patent from a different company
although to be fair, kailh done some decent innovate for the box series
I don't really care, I have my Kailh Box Thicc Clicks Navy, so i'm set for good
just like, there aren't going to be tactile non kailh box switches if there are no non kailh box switches
Can attest to the RK84.
So I'm going to ask this again just incase some other people might see it and give me their opinion
I'm looking to get into the custom keyboard scene but I don't really want to lose my number pad so I'd be looking for a custom 100% keyboard and I'm just looking for recommendations
Unfortunately, there aren't many 100%'s.
And the few that remain tend to be pretty expensive barebones.
You're probably better off with a TKL or smaller and a separate numpad.
You can get a custom external numpad too
Which can be expensive but ye
where would you recommend looking for a external numpad? and what tkl would you recommend
mechanical keyboard.com maybe
They don't have any external numpads
Tofu is not great value. There are better cases and builds you can do to keep the cost down and get a similar sound signature
None of those came up when I was on the site
how much would a modded sk64 sell for?
Would it be more than the stock sell value?
what do you mod exactly?
It would be almost new (only used to be modded)? Also it would be lube + bandaid + holee + foam
hmmm
id say 55-60
Usd?
yea
umnmmmm
idk if that would sell for tyhat low
the stock sk64 is like
100nzd+
(70ish usd)
That’s not that low then
and this is nz
You’ll never sell anything for msrp
everything is overpriced here
Well then you can try around msrp
thanks : )
You might be guaranteed a sale though if you sell it a bit less than msrp if everything else is overpriced
ah ok
Technically you can argue Viola to be one
But that's... A debate on it's own
what do you think about the razer ornata chroma
meh rubber dome
the click leaf ruin the experience
keycaps are thin and cheap
i found them to be somewhat decent
the click was the best part
domes could have been snappier but not a bad choice if you can get one for cheap
Keychron K2, advantages and disadvantages
Is gk 61 + akko rose switches + hyper x pudding keycaps good
I am on a small budget
Cheaper is good for me
i need an opinion for my build:
a kc84 kit
gateron smd blacks
pbt olives
evrglide panda stabs
W pfp
w
Nice
I'd probably be okay with an 1800
k thx
Try out akko keycaps
will check
Akko wt is epic
Anyone know a good mechanical rgb keyboard and also have the color lilac?
mode65
309 usd without switches and keycaps for the hotswap version
doesnt have per key rgb tho
1800 layout irritates me
1800 style layouts definetly mess with my muscle memory on the right half of the board, not really sure why
Hello people. Do you know what model this keyboard is?
Found it on marketplace but I can't find anything about it
I had but nothing pops up. It's so weird
How much is it listed for
15$
Get it
Yeah, I think I will. 15$ is not that much if it turns out to be a hustle
I'll buy it for curiosity's sake
Bought into the hype built my first custom
What do you think of it?
Pretty great really easy to work with solidly built
My durock stabs don't fit the stock aluminum plate I wasn't planning to use
Thankfully I am using the polycarb plate anyway
Which fits
And my knob got stuck and had to use the chassis to pry it out which was skecth
Overall way better than my Ducky one 2 was the result
As a audio boy I also bought matching headphone cables lol. Waiting till cablemod releases their coiled usb c cables to upgrade my keyboard cable
Eyyyyyy GMMK Pro gang
Looking for a keyboard that can simulate controller stick movement. obviously not the physical style of movement. I want to be able to press a key and depending on how far down i press it would dictate the speed i move in say call of duty.
Coz on PC MnK I'm stuck with stop or go but i watch console players moving very slowly coz the stick allows them to.
@ me or DM me if you know of any keyboards that can do this.
No idea if this exists anymore but this one was able to do it

If you are looking for a keyboard that have "steps" depends on how deep you press capacitive switch might be best bet because they technically can.
I am not sure if any come with that kind of driver tho.
wooting makes some
good shout but i won't touch a steel series product after having to deal with thier customer service.
Their keyboards are pretty good besides their blue switches….ughh
I won't touch a steel series product ever again.
Alright then uh…
What he said?
Well I can’t think of anything else, try what the other two said
Oh looks like the wooting is working and giving edge to some games to a point they discuss if that is fair :p
Look nice, i'll bookmark that. thanks guys.
Build time
Your keyboard had a stroke
ek switch hitter
via also has one built in
Just google keyboard tester
And one should show up that runs off your browser
there were some issues with keycaps
english effing international keyset
i ordered from amazon.de so i assumed it'd be german
doesn't really matter for me if some keys are mislabeled though, but had to steal capslock from my old keeb which was bit meh 😦
at least it's close enough in shade even if it's not pudding to match this
You really like red and black huh?
gmmk pro???
nice
I'm on a drop ctrl, gmmk pro isn't right for me
it's the apex pro right?
I was considering doing smth similar to my switches for my build
Speaking of custom keyboards, I’ve decided to mod my k2 to have akko cs switches because my attempt with the motospeed failed
Yeah
I like the floating 75% design which is why I’m planning to get a Q1
I'm using a very weird custom
What’s in it
Drop CTRL with Durock Yellow L1 and NPKC sunset keycaps
Yes
Sounds like your typical custom keeb
These switches are going in that keyboard
lube them
oh also my keyboard has artisan
I would but I don’t have lube rn
I’ll do that on my next build because I’ll probably get more of these when the Q1 comes out
I don’t use it so I don’t mind
What kind
🙂
What board is that, I've been looking at getting a custom 100% and trying to find them is like looking a needle in a haystack
@tame moon this is a GMMK
hotswap board by glorious
available in various layouts and sizes
VERY well available
Oh okay, that's one of the only ones I've seen, but I haven't been able to find it in a barebones variant
AlbertA
Not worth it with exchange rate, shipping and customs
local it is then, try those stores
it's a good way to add 75 to 100 more to your keyboard
they can order it even if they dont have it listed
I paid 74,90€ for the barebone and 41,90€ for switches, 20€ for keycaps
200 canadian pesos / 160 USD
honestly this wasn't even more expensive than buying corsair board or smth
i had k70 and i switched out because of poor build quality
I've got a k70 right now
badly soldered, switched one unit on warranty already
happened again
but now mine was out of warranty
i'll just solder it myself eventually, but i need a functional good kb either way..
so figured might as well step into the custom keeps game without having to solder
It would appear that all the local sites are either out of stock or special order
Don't really have a price range right now, just trying to see what's out there
I have no idea what that means
But what?
Ok
Looking for a 75% pcb
Features: Hotswap
VIA support or decent software support
5 pin switch support (optional but nice to have)
Wireless (optional)
RGB (optional)
If possible, the charger on the left side like a Keychron but not needed
If wireless, would prefer to have multiple device support but single device is fine
this looks pretty good, thank you
any good stabilizers to go with it? like those durock ones? i only have plate mounted ones
Their One of the biggest certainly doesn't fit the metal gmmk plates
But was relatively easy to tune
Just a quick holee mod and lube made them sound 👌
Maxkeyboards...?
They have pudding caps I think but not sure if they can be customized.
just got my new board assembled last evenig
made a small mistake with buying international engrish ISO with it 😄
oof
that part doesn't matter to me really, but I'm looking for media keys that would fit function row now
If you need a custom layout from Maxkeyboards though it's going to cost you.
might just order proper nordic set too from somewhere though
https://www.startech.com.bd/hyperx-alloy-fps-pro-mechanical-gaming-keyboard
Is this a good keyboard?
If you haven't bought the Alloy already, consider the Royal Kludge RKxx series of keyboards.
My brother has the RK84 and it's loaded with features like a hotswap PCB, removable bezel, 2.4GHz and Bluetooth wireless, 2x USB-A passthrough, magnetic feet for height adjustment, and configurable RGB right on the keyboard.
The only downside is the trash software, really.
🤔
I don't use software for my keyboard ...
Will look into royal kludge at some point
I currently have the rk61, I don't really like it.
The software was really buggy at first and cherry switches 🤮
I don't have one
Oh
I might get one
Two of my switches failed, so I reccommend getting some spare ones too
I have a bunch of switches
I always order for full size even tho I only have tkl and 60% keyboards
quality is kinda shit
Kinda, but it's either that or you drop hundreds more on custom Signature Plastics sets.
Otherwise, UV printing and ABS is what you're going to get.
i mean
their opaque caps are so thin light can easily penetrate through them
according to one of my friend's experience
so idk
is the customizable worth the trade off for shit quality?
I think my Razer Hustman Elite looks pretty good
It's there but not terribly noticeable.
And unless you have a few hundred lying around you don't really have another option.
With darker keycaps it's much more noticeable. Still, I personally don't mind it since it's almost never lit up anyway.
But yeah. They only have ABS and UV print for customizability, which is a huge shame.
yea
and yours doesnt look as bad as my friend does
so they must have wild qc
this is with the led right up against the caps tho
So... I've spent a couple hours trying to find somewhere that sells English/Korean keycaps for the Cherry MX Switches but I keep getting dead links only to sites that no longer offer it... It's kinda frustrating
if it is in on the website, i could consider it, but if not, this is the only respectable retailer here
How can I get my stabilizers into the slot on my keycaps?
I would have to hold the stab up with something, I've tried that but it just won't work, and when not holding it up, the switch is alot higher than the stab
Tape
razer switches are mostly garbage though
their opticals are the only decent switch they have -- and steelseries hall effect is just superior
Steelseries in my experience has nice keyboards but meh switches
i mean
their oem is still omron
and with most the current mouse pcb deliver lower voltage than the minimum required current of those microswitches, it makes the microswitch fail prematurely
The hall effect switches are pretty good though very smooth linear stock.
Haven’t tried them yet
it also partially explain why japanese omron can last longer than their chinese counterparts
besides thicker contact points with gold plated contacts, they also has a lower wetting current than typical chinese omrom
I’ve only used their blue switches which are terrible
from the spec sheet it feels too light for most ppl imo
Fair. Fits my personal preferences for linear as I like them very light
Not that I would buy a steel series board though
i see.
I don’t like mine too light but I haven’t tried lighter yet
Linears I like light but tactile I like a bit more weight and clickys I like weighty but not too much
For clickies and tactile I think I’d prefer the same
I believe the pandas which I run have 67 grams which is pretty much ideal for me tactile wise. But for my linears I like to keep em low at least as low as 62 grams which is what the switches I have one the way have
The Akko cs matcha greens I got are around 50 or 60
well razer in general shouldn't be good for most use cases
Oh btw I was looking for this. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Rubbishly gave me one earlier. I’m not sure where to look for one so I’m asking here
is redragon any good
not really
there are better budget options
like?
a gk61
You can buy a pretty good prebuilt from keychron for like $50
Hot swap PCB and gateron yellows as well
Anyone used the akko switches ordered some white ones for my glorious keyboard.
Welp that's your opinion and I respect it, but I love my Razer keyboard
Mostly is the keyword in his sentence. As compared with most switches a lot of Razer switches are generic or below average. Some newer switches are pretty good though.
I'm a her
Here’s my board I put together and paid way too much for lmao
Southpaw extended 65, aluminum case, 9* feet, brass plate, custom cut EVA foam to fill the metal case
gateron ink black v2 switches, deskkeys films, durock stabs, krytox 205g0 hand lubed
What cap set is that
some random SA profile caps from massdrop, custom powder coated case "forest sparkle green", custom cat paw cap that looks like my real cat's paw
I have a pretty similar build except i haven't lubed my switches and i don't have that numpad thing
Im not unsoldering these just so that i can lube them.
Im not bothered anyway, these are really smooth without even
smoother than nk cream lubed
forest sparkle green is such a fun color
also eh idk, if they're black ink v2s they're decent
but creams are particularly scratchy
Yeah, my friend had them and i had a solid laugh when i tried them
but if they're already soldered in idk might not be worth it
I've been messing with spray lube recently
I'm working on a 3D printed thing that goes in to the switch to not drown them
I mean if i want a smooth switch my first place wouldn't probably be a MX clone switch anyway
true
I successfully spray lubed this RK71 without breaking it
some "Royal Kludge" branded red clones
I wish they sold HHKB with an ISO enter and not a JIS layout
I removed and lubed the stabs, put in some case foam, spray lubed the switches, and put some PBT caps on them
the HHKB layout never resonated with me. I use an ergodox at work and these standard layouts at home
Built a lily58 for a friend, really liked it
But i really like the layout on the HHKB it just makes sense to me
and it looks really nice
Or i just say fuck it and go ANSI
the lily58 is cool as hell
it's a pain in the ass to build
Friend wanted a split recommended him a Iris
just due to me not wanting to solder millions of fucking diodes and a microcontroller
I don't have a very small tip on my soldering iron
oh I got my PCB used with the diodes on it lol
the only diodes I soldered were on a keeb.io dilly
If it was very unique probably, otherwise fuck no
I should get on the Kailh Choc bandwagon
chocs are fine I guess
I just like MX style switches for the sound
really I'm just waiting to get GMK INC
I want a FIZT key
Ah I apologize I meant to write this not his I'm on mobile so i often fuck up sentences cause of autocorrect
It's alright...
I'm planning to get a new keyboard, the only thing I need is what type of switches is good or not, and what should I get.
Like blue switches, brown switches, red, etc.
that depends entirely on preference. somnme would say but a switch tester and try out as many switches as possible. there is not bad "type" of switches only switches specifically bad for the individual. the most unpopular switch in the keyboard enthusiast space are clicky's. personally Im a fan of all 3 running tactiles. and about to build a new keyboard with linears and was using clickys
For the most part I would ignore cherry unless you actually find a switch that you feel is ideal to you through them
But there are other brands like gateron that have far passed then in terms of switch quality
Tbh, I kind of like the sound and feel of MX Browns.
If you like it then stick with browns
Personally I'm in the group the really dislikes it cause to me it's basically linear and the sound is not my preference
Lubed linear gang
I use hako trues at work though. The weird force curve helps me not bottom out. They hurt my hand when playing games, though.
Eyyy lubed linear gang
I fell for the Tealios meme
Now I run ink blacks because I like their sound more
But tealios with Krytox was a “hey wait a minute” moment
I have 11 keyboards though. So don’t think you should be like me
Oof, it's kinda like me. But opposite, instead of keyboards I have 17 mouses, planning on selling them. Cause really I only use one which is a good ole reliable G502
I collect them. I have 2 vintage ones from when I was going to school and working in IT, and a super vintage one from my dad. The other… 8… are ones that I’ve bought or built.
I still feel not bottoming out is a meme
I love the G502, but I wish it wasn't 150$.
but not everything can be perfect.
i also have a g502
Oh crap I meant the G502 Lighting, which is the wireless one.
Look at this force curve
~60g to actuate and ~100g to bottom out.
So decent weight with a sharp tactile bump but then after that it’s bouncy like you’re hitting rubber or something
i have tangies on the way still deciding what the rest of the parts will be aside from stabs
currently running lubed pandas
lubed linear gang
tangies are nice
Varmilo is a good brand for prebuilt ... sadly they only offer cherry mx switches and as far as I know they are soldered ...

these names are just so adorable
same here the wired one
I've got the lightspeed one
Should I wait for this or get mints?
wouldn't know 🙂
ill get both
Mints are linear?
Tell me what's your fav
i've got gateron blacks right now on the board i assembled this week
but i'm waiting for these to see if i'll like something else more.
if husky switch is named anything like their irl counterparts
they're noisy as fuck
😄
Will look epic
IF they are, that is
Good noise or bad noise?
well, let me demonstrate
Bork bork
Wookie the Husky loves to sing the barritone parts of songs with his owner, and when the song gets to the monumental chorus, the rest of the pack joins in with their howls in a glorious wall of sound.

I need to talk
Thats nice
I wouldn't buy more custom switches without testing first
and hearing some reputable reviews
U think I can make a build for like 200 usd with huskies
sure
Hmm I'm thinking of id80 with lubed gats
Whats wro g with cherry mxs
They sound great
Dc
they arent good technical performance wise, especially smoothness
tho good batches of hyperglides has been reported to have pretty good smoothness
Wdym by smooth ndss
like, with typical cherry batches, they will feel like theres sand granules inside the switches when you press down
compare to something like gateron yellow, akko cs matcha green
Ok
Whats a good pink 60% ansi keyboard
Then
Akko probably has one
Link?
Their 60% is out of stock so here’s a 65
..
Oh oops I didn’t check other sites
They are subpar switches for the price compared to other offering ... and their tactile are really not that good
Varmilo needs to wake up and make their board with options for hotswap socket
Nothing.
It's just preference. There's no scientific way to prove they're genuinely bad unless they literally refuse to work as a switch.
Lol if you can call them tactiles
If you don't like them that's fine.
If you do like them that's fine.
But the only way to know is to try them yourself.
Cherry MX switches are fine. I’m personally not a fan of how nylon housings sound and the nylon stems aren’t always as smooth as some crazy switches coming out from like Gateron and Tecsee
But any contact based switch is going to be pretty similar. Optical switches are kinda cool but the empty space in the switches they require ruins the timbre and resonance of the keyboard case and ends up sounding harsh to my ear
Oi
is there any programmable media keyboards that i could use as media keys
hotswap preferred
Anything with QMK has really strong programmability. Any key could be bound to any macro or function.
i was more of thinking something with like 6-12 keys
small pad i could have alongside this GMMK board i have now
i find myself wanting media keys still quite a bit, using function+F-keys combos sucks
Oh I get you. I use a keeb.io Dilly but you have to solder that yourself.
The 1up sweet16 is good too
But those are DIY kits. Just search for QMK macropad on eBay or something
The QMK configurator, there are lots of online tools to create the binary file to flash them
Super powerful tool, kind of a pain to learn
Your gmmk probably has QMK support
They are much scratcher than their gateron and kailh alternatives
Premium? You don't pay $1 a switch for most Cherry switches.
If you like cherry browns then I guarantee you’d like gateron browns
Bruh what gateron switches are cheap af
So are Cherries.
you pay more for cherry than gateron and they are much more pingy and scratchy
Only cherry switches I like are vintage blacks
Gotta show me prices then.
And there's a lot of vendors out there.
Still preference lol
Not scientific over what is better or not.
I do have both Cherry and Gateron blacks so I can test it.
Which is fair, but still preference, really. For me there was zero difference between a Gateron and a Cherry black.
Cherry vs. Gateron Blacks, alternating between the two, mounted on G and H keys, unlubed, Cherry profile keycaps, GMMK Pro.
Blind test:
I don't doubt this lol
You tell me. I really did use a Cherry and a Gat in there.
I'll do a few more tests.
Acrylic tester
Aluminum tester
No worries. I'll keep your answers in mind.
Just a 2x2 tester.
First one was a 1x4 tester.
The very first one where you guessed was a GMMK Pro.
I'm aware, ye. Usually higher-pitched.
Haven't heard a deep sound in one yet.
Fair enough.
Well it's a 50/50 between the two so either you're right or you're wrong. I'll finish writing this thing then I'll say.
what is the best budget programming keyboard
what do you mean by programming keyaboard? are you ctalking about a keyboard where you can re program keys?
I can definitely feel the scratchiness of the cherry brown while typing
Like a macropad?
Is this guy wireless?
I put hot glue in every single keycap on my kbd
it improves hollow sound incredibly well
considering that you probably have all the stuff you need laying around already
What does it mean if it says a keybord it HEFT
nothing like thin hollow caps sounding hollow
fill it too much and it'll just hit the top of the switch lmao
I just recieved some citrus
I kinda dislike my k3, thought I’d like the low profile but I absolutely do not
I’d go k2, I don’t have much use for a number pad
But if you really like your numpad
Is the akko 3061 Tokyo r2 pink switch good for £60
spacebar?
kek
i doubt you can repair individual keys, you gotta get a replacement keyboard
I mean, you can touch the membrane and it will still registered i reckon
any recomendations for a machanical keybaord mainly for gaming??
What's your budget?
Where are you from?
What's your preferred keeb size and switches?
100pound
uk
and i dont mind the size
Okay then
Womier k66, womier k87, kemove snowfox/shadowfox,
Leopold fc660m, fc750r if you can stretch the budget cap a lil bit
yh it does its just really annoying coz i either have to press it in a specific place
Key Chron k2 with aluminum frame for customizability in the future if you want to be able to swap out swity in the future https://www.keychron.com/collections/keyboard/products/keychron-k2-hot-swappable-wireless-mechanical-keyboard?variant=32187465597017
Keychron K2 Hot-swappable version is a 75% layout wireless mechanical keyboard, yet compact. Users can hot swap every Gateron switch in seconds, while compatible with other MX-styled switches. With Mac and Windows layout, connect up to 3 devices, comes with wired cable option, and 15+ types of RGB lighting option.
Is the race3 from vortex a good keyboard? Seems like a nice one for programming since I don't need the numberpad that much. Also I'd miss the f-keys too much on a 60%.
It costs 130€ here, my budget is 200€. Any recommenations for a 75% keyboard?
How about the key Chron I linked?
I don't know, is the keyboard tall? I have a low profile keyboard at the moment so I probably need a palmrest for that one if it's very tall. Also I've heard they use cheap plastic and abs keycaps and I much prefer PBT keycaps for their feel. Obviously I could buy them aftermarket. Also I don't want very rattly stabilizers.
is the Cooler Master CK530 good? its quite cheap so there should be a catch, right?
not hotswap so if you want to change out the switches you cant
ohk
so is there another keyboard for hot swappable in them?
like in coolermaster
ook, all of them are not hot swappable
thanks though!
Is it good
where can I get custom keycaps?
the issue I am having is that a lot of them dont deliver to india
https://thekey.company/collections/keycaps this is where I got mine they dont seem to be based in china so they likely dont have any sanctions on them.
indian amazon also seems to sell some but they seem to be the generix hyper x and razer stuff
the first one would be fine
A bit late
ahh i have that one too, it's also fine
drop carina with brass plate ... is it something good ?
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001272448056.html is this good
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
ajjo is pretter well regarded
akko*
yeah
pretty*
my keeb may be fancy but my typing skill aint
43 pretty awful
i get 50
also I have a trigger enter key so I have a habit of pressing it even though I know I made a mistake
anyway for that price though you can get a nicer board
for pink, and full size?
maybe let me llook around pretty sure I can get those same caps for pretty cheap
the stock akko stabs are pretty awful cause they seem to just use unlobed cherry stabs
theyre like £20
and rattle a lot
fbm
they keyboard comes prelubricated, they might just be switches tho
you can lube a shitty stab all you want they can still rattle
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
i was thinking about this guy but sswap the caps
it would be samre price
the stock stabs are better but still bad
true
the akko board is still decent though Im just unfamiliar with the switches they ship with
gateron pink is the option im going with
huh Im unfamnmiliar wwith those switches having looked them up they sound a bit odd to me
but if your into it go for it
they soiund fine to me
ah no Im sure they sound ffine to most people
I myself ama little new to the spcace I just spent a good amount of time researching boards to build mine. so you should take my opinions witha grain of salt really
IIm more an audio boy than a mech key one
I forgot is anti-ghosting so you can press 4+ buttons at once
basically but it's 6+ keys generally
Alr thanks
Ghosting is when 6 keyboard keys or more are pressed at the same time, and the keyboard does not register keystrokes after these 6 keys are held down
👍
Thoughts on my keyboard?
Advice needed. Is it better to start this hobby by buying a full kit or buying pieces for the first build?
I'd say full kit, and then swapping out parts as needed. At least you have a working keyboard now with the ability to poke around.
Specs?
https://kbdfans.com/products/60-keyboard-wood-case?variant=40492083981, https://www.pcgamingrace.com/products/glorious-panda-mechanical-switches lubed and some cheapo keycaps

ahh thanks
Hey friends! Does anyone one own and run a Drop CTRL or ALT keyboard and has figured out how to add more custom lighting effects to the firmware? I want to personalize my board and the whole QMK stuff confuses me
Hey everyone, I was thinking a out getting a keyboard for my laptop and I wanted to pick either 60% or TKL. However I am worried about them not having a wrist rest, so now I wonder does a worst rest matter that much? Or will I be fine with out one.
Also doe it matter if the keyboard key caps are all flat or ergonomic?
wrist rests imo are annoying
check out the kemove snowfox or akko world tour
also keychron
@pallid trout
It's preference, but I like my wooden wrist rest for my mech.
You can also consider a Royal Kludge RK84, which is a 75%.
I was looking for something budget friendly
Like say under 30$
I saw 2 options for a 60% that I liked
Pictek & red thunder
But thanks for the information really helpful :D
whats a good TKL board
getting tired of this tired old dell membrane keyboard
budget?
Not gonna get too much for that, unfortunately. Maybe some Redragon boards.
I think that's Royal Kludge RK-series money.
But I'm not sure.
My brother has an RK84 and, hardware-wise, is the most feature-packed board I've seen sub-$100. Software is ass though but unless you need to remap keys you should be fine.
I have a %5 off code to mechanicalkeyboards.com if anyone wants it expires in 3 days
@limber dove I'll take it i guess
Hi, I'm considering to get an RK84, can someone tell me their experience with this keyboard if you've had one? Appreciate it, thanks.
My brother has one. What do you want to know?
I personally went pieces and ended up spending a lot but ended up with something I'm pretty happy with. I will say I could have saved money here and there and done more research on stabalizers and not have had to buy 3 different stabs. And bought everything all at once to save on shipping. And overall done more research to know that I know what I need from each store
why do stabs have to be the most fiddly part of a build >.<
They’re long and very small yet their job is to be stiff.
They really aren't as long as you have good thick grease and good stabs. And after learning how to do the holee mod. Tuning stabs was actually really easy for my first build.
There are some real good videos on how to do it. Durock stabs are easy
It's just my first set of stabs weren't that great which was c3 stabs and I forgot to buy the rods
But if you have a cheap stab with a warped wire it’s going to be hard and fiddley
I then bought everglides but the store sent me clip ins and not screw ins
Then I bought durocks from a local vendor and it turned out hreat
Why you spend extra to get good stabs
Durocks and everglides are not super expensive
Yeah it’s like 10% more to get good ones
Totally worth it. But tuning pre installed stabs on prebuilt boards can be a pain
I found lubing switches were honestly the worst part of the build
And I got pandas so I didn't need to film them
Next build though I will have to film the switches and that's something I know I'm gonna hate
Filming is pretty much just applying the sticker to the casing
If you’re in there lubing it only takes a few seconds per switch
9pm and still waiting for fedex dude to come 😦 i want mah switches!
should I get the gmmk and lube all the browns
Scratchy should be its own category
Lol a round about way to get a cherry red gmmk
durock l3 seems nice
i honestly can't decide favorite between Durock L3 and Healio v2
What why
Red and lubed browns are different
what did you expect? mechanical parts?
Eh not really. The tactility on the Browns are so non existent that lubing it just kills it this making them basically a red
Does the software really suck? I mean all I really want to know is if it has media keys for volume and play/pausing, and if there's at least static white option for the lighting
You can change the backlighting right on the keyboard.
As for media options, I'll have to check.
But the software really is trash.
It just doesn't work, so my brother doesn't use it at all, since he doesn't need key remapping. If it's different for you, please let me know.
Yes, it has media controls.
Maybe a few Redragon models but that's kinda it.
Personally I don't need to do key remapping
If I can change the lighting via the keyboard itself, and to a static white, I'll be fine with it
Moral of the story: dont buy a 10$ keyboard
Understood 😂
The RK84 is one of the most feature-packed keyboards you can get for under $100 USD.
I think you'll like it.
I think the media keys are FN keys, but I wasn't sure.
Awesome
I'm more of an artist user, so I need a more compact keyboard. And the one I love about this keyboard is the additional 2x USB ports
Plus it's hot swappable so I can switch to better switches if desired
But it's a brand Im not familiar with so I wasn't sure
BTW
My brother removed the bezel, which which is why it looks like that. You can easily reattach it if you prefer a high-profile keyboard though.
Yeah I know that, it's epic
And you're right, it is the most packed KB for the price
Lol, so I'm not deep into the whole KB hobby with all the switches and stuff
But if I dare ask, what do you think is the best switches? @pallid trout
From your experience and personal opinion
Well
