@pallid trout thoughts? lol
its obviously going to be cut to size so ignore the edges
@pallid trout i just finished foaming my keyb! thanks for the help btw!
Sweet!
what kb u getting
just a heads up durock stabs wont work cuz it doesnt have the holes to screw in
also can someone make a mouse channel
so what we talk about mouse weight and drag and battery life?
also sensor positioningm weight, moddablity
i got a gk61 and im bout to modd it, i just ordered a modding kit and some lube
also other shit like switches, paracording, how bad the mouse feet are
you can mod mousesssssssssssss
I mean we can talk about mice here.
Probably more appropriate to called this #peripherals then.
do me a favor and buy different stabs for the board if you plan on using it for quite some time
cause the stock stabs are shit
yes ik, im on a tight budget because im going through a mobo upgrade rn, i want to keep using those stabs until they die becuz i paid for em lol, but as soon as they break to dust trust me im upgrading
the kids wont understand that when they want to come and complain about their cheap keyboards
lol
There should be sound tests somewhere but you're better off hearing them yourself since keyboard acoustics also depend on case material, plate material, gasket count and placement, foam material and quantity, the desk it's sitting on, etc.
Also true.
There are silent versions of Cherry switches.
And also silent versions of Kailh box switches.
That info isn't going to help any of us because not a lot of us have that exact setup.
You do realise we can't tell you how it sounds right
Again, you'll have to hear them yourself.
They're basically the same thing
Just buy milky yellows and cherry pick
Cheap and good
Testers are useless
Just a novelty product
Testers are great for trying out key feel but useless for acoustics auditioning.
If there's anything helping your decision, it's that I do hear from time to time that Gateron yellows are some of the best budget linears.

what is the best starter keyboard
Got a mechanical keyboard recently, finally I don't need to use a membrane one after I broke my Logitech G413 🙂
Membrane is not that bad
its for specific kinds of people that don’t want to hear a keyboard and don’t want to spend money, basically non enthusiast
rubber domes are not that bad
it is the implementation of most common rubber dome keyboards that give them a bad reputation
what is the best cheap keyboard?
Moded my keychron K2 a bit with new caps paint and some foam, fresh keeb feeling
Whatever hotswap mechanical keyboard is available to you.
Depends on what you want.
hand wiring + controller + whatever switch you want
i want a linear
so theres no mice channel but does anyone have a fix for when a mouse keeps on freezing on desktop and in games. its really annoying and i've tried so many online
?
I mean what your experience would be like. Do you want to build it yourself or do you want it barebones or do you want it fully assembled? Do you want hotswappable switches? Do you want mechanical or membrane or does it not matter?
Stuff like that.
Because "cheap" can mean anything.
A $15 K120 is cheap in a world of $80 RK84's.
An RK84 is cheap in a world of $170 GMMK Pro's.
A GMMK Pro is cheap in a world of $400 Sat65's.
And a Sat65 is cheap in a world of $3200 Keycult commissions.
Gotta know what you want before you start looking for the best "affordable" option.
Really not that different from the world of audio gear, just the 'click-clack' is a feature instead of a bug
question, is the gmmk pro the only readily available gasket-mount board made with aluminium? or are there other options i can get if i was to consider a mostly aluminium build
its the only real off-the-shelf option if that's what you mean, rest is group-buy territory
that's unfortunate, but ah well. thanks
Yeah.
A lot of the best enthusiast boards are made by companies much smaller than Glorious.
Therefore, they can only sell a limited amount at a time. So, to dissuade scalpers, they do group buys and even raffles.
Glorious is the first major company to put out an enthusiast keyboard of its kind, and thus do not need to resort to either of those sales models.
I was randomly looking around thingiverse and I found this
Nice
will a drevo seer pro work?
yo so i have a razer ortana chroma keyboard and i need to clean it, what would be the best way to clean my keyboard?
like under the keys
remove the keycaps and then use a damp towel or cotton bubs to wipe between the opening for the membrane?
or use a vacuum with the brush attachment
@pale silo
ok
ill try that
also last time i tried to clean my keyboard i took off all the keys and washed them in the sink. big mistake, having to put the keys on the correct way is a pain to do
i feel you
it worked tho, they were clean
Hi
Anyone online?
Which mechanical switch is best for gaming in two of these?
Outemu blue or outemu reds?
its preference
No such thing as a gaming switch
with all these mech switches im surprised there are none with analog inputs
like the controller triggers
really nice to haves for alot of situations
There are
@lament thistle
Idk how blues and red feel like
blues are clicky, and have a distinct click
reds are linear, and dont have such bump or noise
mech switches are technically sort of analog
they are either "on" or "off"
Well, it's not so much nice to have
Look at every situation you'd want one : either you'll be better just playing with a xbx controller or a dedicated peripheral like a hotas or smth
I don't see any situation where I'd want it
But it exists yeah
fair enough i guess
Yeah, many have tried but it never blew up, guess there is a reason, and the reason is "welp, actually why would I want that?"
got my new mechanical keyboard, my first one that I bought
what do you fellas think?
what board is that ?
rakk lam-ang pro
ooohhh
good entry board
can be modded and swap in other mx style switches
universal hot swappable
thats marketing tbh
universial here mostly means in the cherry mx loop
you cant swap in say alps skcl green into that board for example
@heavy adder
not really
since tkl doesnt have a common screw hole pattern
I just found this custom keyboard on a subreddit and I don't mind saying that it looks horrific
I may be wrong but it looks like the caps are made of cotton
curious does anyone know that does keyboard case modification?
either way it looks like ass
tru
if the creator likes it then why cry about it
its not like hes trying to sell it to you for 1k
correction: does anyone know any person or group that does keyboard bottom case modification commission?
Hello lads
I’m trying to solve a membrane keyboard issue of my customer
I have no idea what’s happening
The space bar would go down and jam not coming up
Any solutions
not sure if this is the right channel but i'm quite proud of this because I've never got this high a speed with this accuracy
i also barely tried there
Its called binding
either theres gunk in there or the plastic has worn so much it creates too much friction when the slider moves
been looking at a new keyboard since my k95 crapped out on me last night. I’ve gotten down to a Logitech G915 or a steelseries apex pro, but I cant decide. i already have both Logitech and steelseries products (mice and headphones respectively). which should I choose?
Optical switches.
Uh, mechanical kb newbie here, how can i flip my space bar? I do not have any key pullers or something, just a Shit ton of screwdrivers, 2 tweezers and uh some yarn, any possibilty to get it done?(somewhat safely)like what do i need to watch out for? (MX switches here)
Hi i need a mech keyboard. Am a Mac user, so favourably with Macos layout any recommendations?
Need it for writing
No budget. As long as it's below 200
So that's technically a budget...
just try to do whatever the fuck you can to get two things on the outside of both to move it up
So yarn on the outside and pull it up at the same time with as example an screwdriver?
possibly
Because current im hitting a corner everytime i hit space, and i heard that flipping the space should help
And putting it back in? Do i have to look out there for something?
backwards spacebar can definitely help for some key sculpt designs even if it does look dumb
Mhm, im gonna try it out
Usually, it doesn't account for mistakes fixed.
yeah, and the odd thing too is that it was on my shitty school chromebook
rk61 royal kludgekeyboard help, I was typing andl clicked something, now t doesnt type right
at first y keyboard started blinking blue, and then stopped
then my windows keychanged a different color compared to the rest
clicking something like alt +tab doesntork well, sometimes when iclick spacebar it types a whole bunch of random words in
its possible you may have switched your keyboard to a mac mode perhaps. check the manual for it and see if there is any info on how to change mods
could also be a demo mode
mac mode?
ivebeenusing t for a long time idont have the manual
some keyboards have support for both windows and macos as they use different layouts
such as mine
uh
you can reset the rk61 by holding fn+ space for 3 sec
yeah that doesnt work
according to this
oh
itsupposed to work ik but toesnt
does the board on any layer mode?
ARGH my letters arent licking right
like when you hold down the fn keys, does any keys light up white?
i dont it started blinking a blue color earlier orsomething
do you have another keyboard you can use in the meantime?
only my windows key lights up white
huh
it tried to connect to the pc via bluetooth?
i do not even that works when i connected it
thats prob win lock
fn+win key
you are a freakin genius
dude it works
some of the keys dont click correctly cuz i took out keycaps and didnt put correctly
np
i have the same ish board and i have the cheat sheet for it
DUDE TYSM
tyyyy ((:
for future reference
arigato
and yeah there it is
tyy
((:
can u guys tell me if this is a good keyboard to buy
T-dagger t-tgk315
how much is it?
its about 40-45 dollars
well
its gonna be a mech board that works
no complaints
yea it is a mechanical keyboard with outemu blue switches full Rgb and hot swappable switches
I like my durgod Venus 60
70 pounds is a really sensitive range however if you wanna get into customizing I recommend the GK61X with optical yellows that way you have lower latency
latency???
Bruh.
bruh
And then, he left
He got roasted too hard with those 2 bruhs, that he could not handle being in the server anymore
lol
No dont get blue switches
lol
why though???????????????
what u ussing the keyboard for
because they suck
Visited a friend today
thats his board
its so fucking awesome
Nah I’m not clicking that
thats a nice sound
its a tofu 65 with Gazzew Boba U4t switches - krytox 205g0, kbd67 a polycarbonate plate, HK dye sub PBT BoW keycaps, durock screw in stabs and som really nice foam for them deep thocs
thets not mine
tell your friend to xD
¯_(ツ)_/¯
im gonna ask him for an extended version
if he replies quick Im gonna send it here
apreciate it
should i get the corsair k55 or the red dragon k552 mechanical
what
clicky or not clicky
not clicky
ok then if you plan on gaming a lot then i would recommend linear
do you want to have a big keyboard or a small one?
a 60%
that would be the best
you should checkout rk61
https://www.banggood.com/GamaKay-K61-61-Keys-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-Hot-Swappable-Type-C-3_1-Wired-USB-Translucent-Glass-Base-Gateron-Switch-ABS-Two-color-Keycap-NKRO-RGB-Gaming-Keyboard-p-1760057.html?cur_warehouse=CN&ID=6290921&rmmds=search get this then, its a affordable with good switches
k
im using it for programming the most and some gaing on the side
its cheap and my friend has it he says its nice
the linear ones are the yellow, black and red switch versions
black needs the most weight to activate, yellow is inbetween and red is the lightest
damn how did i miss that when i was buying mine
very nice
kbd 67
pcb
so the same as Friedrich (the guy with the super deep thocc keeb)
also lubed with krytox 205g0
banggood and aliexpress dont ship to my country 🤡
ouch
how about amazon?
This????
yep thats nice
K
do you plan on lubing tho?
Umm tbh idk
ok
Tbh idk if I should
but i think every optical switch board is hotswap so you have the possibility
Ok
i have optical reds in mine and i spray lubed them they sound preety nice
Kk
jesus christ
dont spraylube
that can easily kill your board
i know but calm down
i took em out before that
not that stupid
we took every switch( cuz opticals are always hotswap and their construction is simple) and sprayed they lube in them
ok
ig go red switched
anyone have any recommendations for a switch that is very tactile but not quite clicky? like a switch that has no click bar or jacket but is almost a clicky
what bout browns
Hm, Bobas maybe?
no a brown switch is not as loud as a blue but it has a distinct tactile bump
i looked at bobas but they are super expensive
trying to keep the switches under 40 for 70
Then I’m not too sure
hey could someone recommend me a budget 65% keyboard (i think they have the arrow keys?) preferably red key but yeah depending on price
Keychron makes some I believe, about $100 or so
Redragon K582 SURARA RGB
see epomaker gk68x
oh wait its expensive nvm
Amazon.com: RK ROYAL KLUDGE RK68 (RK855) RGB Wireless/Wired 65% Compact Mechanical Keyboard, 68 Keys 60% Bluetooth Rechargeable Gaming Keyboard with Macro Keys for Windows and Mac, Red Switch, White: Computers & Accessories
Every tactile has no clicky element, where the only sound comes from stem movement and bottoming out the switch.
If you want something with a lot of tactility, there's the Zealios and the Durock T1.
The Drop Halo Clears are a rung below that.
Then again, Zealios switches are expensive.
Are red dragon any good keyboards? or does it depend on the model?
Red Dragon stuff tend to be decent budget offerings, but do check on reviews of them regardless.
Bad companies can make good products just as often as good companies making bad products.
True
Kinda why I don't like generalizing a brand most of the time.
rk68 aint available where i am unfortunately but rk61 is
“If a brand makes something good (or bad), I’ll give credit where credit is due. Regardless of existing reputation.”
- In-Ear Fidelity
ye
Kinda why he has the Astro A40 TR ranked pretty highly for a gaming headset.
And also why he has a load of renown manufacturers at the bottom of the barrel.
What do you guys think about E element keyboards?
then maybe you can try the rk61
yeah looking at it although it seems its wireless 🙄
need recommendations for decent plate-mount stabilisers, considering getting everglide stabs or genuine cherry stabs to replace the garbage rattly stuff in my K65 Mini
durock stabs are good
Anyone know a good tkl keybord for $200 or around it prefer a aluminum build
GMMK Pro?
It's a barebones kit though.
Replaced the new one with the old one. It's far better lol
Outemu blue best switch change my mind
preference so sure
i saw that
blue switches are the best switches in my opinion
because they are easy to type for me
cool
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
Outemu blues are objectively the best switches out there, razer greens, gateron blues, and cherry blues Are very good but aren't quite on the same level. Unlubed nk creams are probably the best linear switches, don't lube them unless you like mushy,
Sluggish switches; mx reds follow close behind the creams, they're the second best linear. If you like tactile switches, cherry has got you with their mx browns, very hard hitters, great switches. Outemu sells a great switch as well, their browns. Both are the best tactiles you'll find out there by a mile- don't even both with anything else.

hes baiting
what keys should i get on this
switches
fuck everything
Durock T1's? Wack.
Gateron Yellows? Wack.
Zealios? Wack.
Laser projected keyboard? That's tight as fuck.
all da bois use laser boards
yall want believe what i did i lubed my blue switches using cooking oil
and it sounds amazing
Does it smell as good?
yes
and then have fun watching the plastic eroded away
lmao yea
why what urged you to do that
A parts list for a budget mech build for around £100.
memes
good point
but you would really want to hate ur keyboard to do that
Cheap mechanical keyboard build
Like, bargain bin cheap lmao
Or you're just dedicated.
ig kumara k552? ofc its outemu blues so you might wanna avoid.
Redragon sells some.
HK gaming GK61 w/ gateron optical reds or Anne pro 2
no i actually do like blue switches
Anne Pro 2 is $100 USD
i can find it for 80
but my roomate doesnt and i dont wanna be a dick
But not $55.
at my local microcenter, they are selling a redragon wireless keyboard for like, $43 open box
mmm
GK61 is a little more likely at $63 USD though.
ofc local only, idk about you
yea i dont have microcenter where i live
Yeah but not all blue switches are made equal. Gotta try them.
i have used outemu's only
the hype about spray lubing
Don't
it can ruin boards
all clickjackets are made shit thats what.
I have a Onn Keyboard.
how are a4tech bloody keyboards
Dusk Pandas 🔥
ayo if any of you got keyboards with cool keycaps, mind if I see\
unless reddragon keycaps are cool, no
I got some custom front-print keycaps but my keyboard ain't here yet. 😦
Red vs box switches?
wdym by box switch?
Kailh Box Switches for Mechanical Gaming Keyboards (65 Pcs, Box Jade): Keyboards: Amazon.com.au
Get those extra clickity clacketi!
which red switch?
and which box switch?
Isn't mx red like the most disgustingly mushy type experience to ever exist? @twilit crater
no
rather the consistency of the housing's smoothness fluctuates like the sinusoidal graph
not sure how people describe non-silent switches as 'mushy', its literal hard plastic against hard plastic on bottom out

yea
like what
super cool!! 👍 10/10
Think my Corsaie Strafe(?) Rgb got mx red or brown, muuushh
i'm planning to get a keycap set:
https://www.amazon.com/YMDK-Keyset-Profile-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B079GZQFY6/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=retro+keycaps&qid=1620529023&sr=8-3
thoughts on it? it was either this or the Keychron Retro Mac keycap set
My older mx blue steelseries with half the white leds dead = Superior typing experience. Button smashing gallore

well you're pressing on springs on all switches anyway, so in that aspect any switch is 'mush'
but when you bottom out, you hit hard plastic
you can check HK Gaming's dye subs
I don't wanna, it's like touching the ocean floor with feet
that sounds like the board's build quality that contributes to the mushiness rather than the switch itself
🐙
Hmm, perhaps

🦑
my friend whats to buy a prebuilt keyboard and then mod it once and never mod it again, i want you guys' help on what he should buy and how he should mod it, and i have him on for questions.
budget: 200$ or less
switch: bumpy and clicky, somewhat loud but silent
keyboard size: 85%
rgb
wired
Both for gaming and typing
he wants it to be easy to buy, and i have all the modding gear for him (except soldering and desoldering), i would really appreciate some help!
Pls ping me if you reply
somewhat loud but silent
eh what?
so he wants the bump from clicky switches but doesnt want the click?
Opticals have no bump thats what he meant
also
he doesnt want the numpad right?
Yes
Consider it silent
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWQdeph9zc8
this silent?
See full build & review vid : https://youtu.be/z8H233BUGgY
Just wanted to quickly share some typing sounds from the Skog Reboot I built , with Seriko silent linear switches (THANKS KOD)
Skog Reboot (sorry GB closed) : https://percent.studio/products/skog-reboot

Tenkeyless Layout Hotswap Keyboard Kit GK87/GK87S kit is designed with the most popular tenkeyless layout to be more suitable for traditional typing habit. It is equipped with hot swappable terminals, with which you could install the switches directly without soldering. It’s compatible with Cherry MX switches, Kailh sw
Brand new plate-mounted stabilizer kits from Durock, these come un-clipped and with stainless steel wires. Black & white color housing options are available and every kit comes with: 4x 2u stabilizers, 1x 6.25 stabilizer and 1x 7u (wire only).
JWK Durock T1 Tactile Switches feature similar housing materials to their line of linear switches: polycarbonate top housing, nylon bottom, POM stem (with tactical bump). This switch is intended for users looking for a "stepped" tactile feel, opposed to the "rounded" tactility from Holy Pandas. Durock T1 Switches Featu
Oh nice
I can attest to the T1's. They have quite a large tactile bump, even with some lube.
forgot to ask
does the guy know how to lube
if so, add some tribosys 3204 to the cart on divinikey
Yes.
You need thinner lube for tactiles.
Hehas tutorials and also says he can do it
Thanks
Ok

i think for that to work you need silent switches and simulated sounds and use headphones
Is a gk61 with blues any good
Not into keyboards and thinking of getting one for my first board
the k63 compact aint a bad shout
it gives a mechanical feel and if ur not fussed abt num pad or wireless ut good
ok
as in it has mechanical switches
oh yeah, the Mode65 is great, so much customisation
Is razer ornata v2 good?
its fine if you get it for a good price
is the gk61 good
what do you fellas think of this switch?

Name: Queen Switch by Moyu Studios
https://zionstudios.ph/product/pre-order-queen-switch-by-moyu-studio/
Switch Specs
Type: Linear
Spring weight: 67g
Mechanical Keyboard: Jelly Epoch | KBD67 Lite | Voice 65
Plate: Polycarbonate | Polycarbonate | Aluminum
Switches: Queen Switch
Lube: Krytox 205 G0 | Stock Spring lubed w/ krytox 105
Keycap: GMK ...
the 67 lite and the Jelly Epoch just makes basically everything sound deep though
even if its not really a switch that is meant to sound deep
But i guess in general sound tests aren't that helpful

good switches?
seems like just another JWK made switch
Hey guys! I was tinkering around with an idea
And I made a rough sketch of it in paint (don't judge!)
I was wondering what others might think, so could I have your opinions on it? ^^
I believe you have created the zenbook duo keyboard as a standalone unit
Mine was meant as an edit of the good old desktop keyboard 😮
It’s not a bad idea tbh, I can see it being useful
Maybe the screen could fold up or something to get a better view?
oh and the "G-Modifier" would be a new one that have to be made (if it can't be arranged, it'll simply be another G key for macros)
Actually I was thinking of 2 ways.
- making slot in units that'd go seamless in, and it'd be either an extra "key area" where you can put on your own custom keys (the OG version would be a second character set for bilingual) OR a slot that'd angle a lil bit (doesn't need to raise if you already raise the back of your keyboard) where you'd slot in your phone, or a simple extra screen.
OR 2. simply make 2 versions, 1 has a screen (touch would seem logical) and a Button one with Extra Bilingual keys.
Note: I think the 1st of those options would be better, as the "slot in" part could be made to better support people with disabilities.
(or option 1 would simply be the "better models" like gaming keyboards from Razer and Corsair n Logitech ect.)
That’s a cool idea
Does anybody know a good 100% keyboard possibly with red switches and with a driver for macros and stuff?
For about 60$
what do y'all think of outemu browns
for that price, keychron's k4 or c2 might be a good option. k4 is more compact but wireless, c2 is wired
they have red switches
Keychron K4 (Version 2) Wireless Mechanical Keyboard. 96% Layout but Compact. Wireless or Wired. Bluetooth 5.1. For Mac and Windows. Optical or Gateron Switches. Connect up to 3 devices. Inclined bottom frame. 15+ RGB Backlight. Dedicated caps lock indicator light.
Keychron C2 Mechanical Keyboard. Full-size 104-keys Layout. Connects via wired type-c cable and users can hot swap every switch in seconds with the hot-swappable version. Compatible with Mac, Windows, iOS, Android, Linux. Gateron Switches. 15+ RGB Backlight
c2 might be what you want
keychron has bomb retro mac keycaps
wait they are??
i mean, it is justified
they were sold out for a bit
they look great
The Keychron K2 and K6 PBT Retro Mac Keycap Set is crafted to honor to the spirit that Apple bring us. Inspired by the best keyboard Apple ever made (Apple Extended Keyboard), this dye-sub PBT Keycap Set is set to reminiscent the good old days and stands out from the crowd in a unique way.
i dont even use a mac but id still buy them
keycap excellence
i watched a video on old mac keyboards and the keycap style got me.. they're great
8bitguy?
funny how they went from "Does More. Costs Less."
but this I'd pay an arm and a leg for
it's even mechanical
now its "does a few things. costs more"
WAY more
oh well, they got some nice keyboards in the past, ill give them that
demand is SO great for this keyboard that on ebay, they're selling parts of it by the keycap
wow
for the price of an iPhone 12, you could have 9-10 of these. Maybe. Depends on where you look.
They are like sold out everywhere
or this thing...which you can buy 3 of them for cheaper....for some reason
Maybe if I look at some nearby electronics recycling center, I could MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE MAYBE spot one. Very low chance
maybe
oh
also $20? i'd snatch it
small price to pay for 100% genuine Apple Pro Stabilized Wired Keyboard A1048
can't believe apple switched from mechanical to membrane!!! r/mk!!
slightly off topic but have you ever noticed its always apple products that are like that? "Apple keyboard great condition ♦️ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ "
probably to catch peoples' eyes with many emojis
probably
or to emphasize the GREAT
yeah, but knowing them, it'll be hella expensive
yeah
oh
speaking of which

no membrane users allowed in my keyboard fort
fun fact: the ibm model m is a membrane
ibm model m users allowed
expection acquired
they made mecha keebs?
alps
can i see a pic of them
nice
huh, didnt know it used those
Apple used Alps. And they are great. Far better than the crap that are MX style switches.
Facts.
They can't do LEDs very well. No one is gonna miss them.
They could, alps just decided to cheapen the design over time
The leaf spring that makes them tactile would have to go.
I would very much love a Matias Quiet Click keyboard, but the ones that exist are garbage as well.
No, some complicated yellows do have a led hole on the south side
Some. Some switches that are rare and are not produced anymore.
All complicated alps are not produced anymore
I'm just saying if alps didn't cheapen the design and eventually discontinue them, they could've been the mx of keyboard switches
Even cheap Alps are far superior to MX style switches.
That ain't the reason they died.
Matias Quiet Clicks are basically cheap Alps, yet they are actually tactile. Much more so than the linear Browns that somehow all got bread crumbs in them.
Mysterious.
matias switches can't compare to the best of what mx offers right now
Haven't had the pleasure of using either. But I trust the judgement of others that had and they sound like I am right on that one.
Define modern MX lol
Cause modern MX Blacks are actually worse than old ones.
Which is really silly to me.
I know. Just wanted to show that "modern MX" ain't really precise
I have seen Chyrosran22 talk about those. He wasn't impressed.
So, because he has vintage boards around, I can't trust his judgement? lol
he compares them to vintage switches in his mind
which we both know are mostly better
but in the mind of a normal consumer. why bother looking and paying a stupid amount of money for some of those boards when you can just buy some good mx style switches
Which also cost a stupid amount of money.
Still not an argument as to why his judgement would be untrustworthy.
To me, that just proves that he knows his stuff since he has tested a bunch of different switches.
Making him even more trustworthy.
the people looking to buy these mx switches are not looking to buy them because they could be better than vints but because theyre better than their competition
And that somehow makes his opinion untrustworthy?
no, his opinion is just not suited for the average consumer
I think it very much is suited for that as he doesn't just look at vintage keyboards.
Limiting himself to just MX style switches would greatly narrowing his perspective and perception of the switch.
He praised the new Razer switches as they are incredibly smooth and they are starting to listening to the customers (besides their crappy software).
you do realise the average consumer isn't going to search ebay for a acer kb101 or a AEK right?
you're saying his opinion is suited for the average consumer because he has experience with many vints
the average consumer doesn't care about vints and they don't even know what he's talking about
So because the average consumer doesn't know what Alps are, his opinion is trash?
Aight
^
Overstatements are a new thing to you, I see
Let me rephrase it for you.
Because the average gamer outside of out techie bubble don't know much about AMD graphics cards, LinusTechTips is not suited for the average gamer.
Same logic applied.
amd graphics cards are actively manufactured and can be bought brand new. Vints cannot.
ok?
matias is bad compared to the best of what mx style has to offer
i can't say anything about unicomp, they do good work
And here we are. He says otherwise. And because he has a lot of experience with all sorts of switches, I trust him.
good for you.
Saying you cannot trust somebody because that somebody knows too much in his field of expertise is beyond me.
i am saying his opinion isn't SUITED for the average consumer
please read what i'm saying
thanks
ok
Daily reminder that keyboards are a matter of

Just a PSA. Not related to anything but the channel itself.
Vintage blacks are only 'good' from all the friction that has worn them in from use. Not cos it was a good switch, if it was New Old Stock for Vint Blacks its inferior to retooled mx blacks or hyperglide blacks
And yet there are people who like them. There is no science to subjective preference.
Yes. Glarses is the No. 1 scientist on this matter. Einstein agrees with him.
That may be true but that still gets the point across. HyperX released their own switches as well and they aren't really what I would call great either.
HyperX ones were produced by Kailh i think?
But mostly modern switches made by Gateron or JWK are superior in all the objective factors
I have heard otherwise but your opinion is your opinion.
I think so as well.
I personally would love to try Topre as I like the description as to how they feel.
But sadly, they are out of stock in my language as well as there are no switch testers outside of Ebay that I could find.
They're good rubber domes, if you've typed in decent laptop keyboards, or even an office keyboard when it was new, just imagine that but a little better
Not just a little
The PCB alone makes it god-like compared to the wet cardboard that is a normal rubber dome keyboard.
Yes, I am one of those monkeys that hammer their keyboards to death.
I mean, when i say objective factors i mean objective.
Modern switches are smoother, leaf noise better, spring doesn't crunch or ping, stem and housing wobble improved on
Those aren't subjective factors that you can argue preference for.
By leaf noise, i mean lack thereof
Then it is not better, lol
You ever put your ear up to some mx browns and press slowly?
Do you even know what leaf noise is?
It's better cos you don't hear the leaf as much
Now that is something else entirely
Same reason you don't want rattle in stabs
Same idea
Unless you wanna argue preference for that
clickies are another thing entirely though
I wish they were never invented. But that's just personal experience. Ask my bleeding ears from plebs with XLR microphones and MX Blue boards.
Well, problem is: they don't care or are unable to due to ... brain issues
- typed on Outemu Blue
If you don't mind the disgostang ping sound they make on this Aukey keyboard, then this bloody 30€ board feels better than the shitty 90€ Fnatic Rush I had a few years back.
ive got a question about my mouse. I have a g402 and the middle mouse click is not working. If i remove the pads to get the screws out, will it reattach or will i have to get new ones
you should get new ones
cause you cant 100% sure that the pads will be just as sticky as they were previously
thanks
having some retro style keycaps coming in the mail soon, can't wait
eyy nice
then I can use them again if i ever consider getting into custom keyboard building
Does anybody know a good 100% keyboard possibly with red switches and with a driver for macros and stuff?
For under 80$
Oh cool, which ones?
they still sell and make carbon clones
Alright
so.. outemu blues amirite
oh my bad! i mean
cherry mx reds amirite
I’ll let that one slide since it’s an okay linear.
has anyone here tried the akko cs rose reds? I’m thinking of getting them and plonking them onto my tecware phantom, any descriptions/experiences on them?
Analogue key press type keyboards do be not a lot out there
Or maybe I'm just not finding it at a wider scope, surely there's got to be someone else than Wooting that does these analogue keyboard tech right?
They're just optical switches. Razer makes keyboards with them along with some other brands: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/what-are-optical-keyboard-switches,32352.html
I tried them. get the matcha ones instead unless you like mushy keys
I need help
My keyboard is stuck in function mode how do I get it out so I can use normal numbers
What’s a good full size keyboard apart from a custom build? Under £230.
Anyone know any keycap websites
In stock keycaps: kbdfans, novelkeys, thekey.company, mechanicalkeyboards[.]com
thoughts on this for this price point? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-k95-rgb-platinum-mechanical-gaming-keyboard-cherry-mx-speed-rgb-led-backlit-gunmetal/5713208.p?skuId=5713208&ref=212&loc=1&extStoreId=117&ref=212&loc=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjws-OEBhCkARIsAPhOkIb1AGy489Fb7JNNdPRmS5_HVmhREKcqv5svJtvfKCeORVIdp3cZONwaAjF1EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
acceptable-ish at 129 usd
how about the gmmk full size
what type of switches do you want?
I’m not actually sure on the switches 😂 maybe I shouldn’t be purchasing at this price point without knowing. I liked the idea of speed switches. I type 50-75 wpm and would probably be slowed down by a full weight switch. I also like the idea of a mechanical keyboard for the clicky clacky but honestly my favorite keyboard ever was the 2010/2011 unibody macbook 😂
what do you like about the speed switches?
cause of its low actuation point
?
Tbh it’s my first desktop ever so I’m flexible on a keyboard and can quite honestly do a basic one until Black Friday or w/e sale.
I have actually never used the speed switches. I went to a keyboard store in north Orange County which at the time was unique and tried all the switches but that was like several years ago
Apparently it’s a unique store
I picture it as being able to touch it lightly and move onto the next key. But perhaps im misunderstanding.
Sometimes I’ll hit a key on my current keyboards and it won’t register that I’ve typed it
just a heads up, because of how speed switches has low actuation points and lightweight springs, you may found yourself accidentally hit a switch
whats your current keeb?
Laptop on a predator Helios & MacBook Air 2019 version
The MacBook is more responsive
At work I use basic dell ones and they aren’t awful.
Maybe I need to go to a store and try them all out to get a feeling before spending 100+
But can I really get a feel for it trying for 30-60 seconds at the store vs gaming/work for long hours ?
thats prob because of ghosting
a common problem with rubber dome keyboards
ghosting being why it wont register each key i type?
most likely
My bro has this keyboard. How would it compare to the gunmetal speed switch?
much worse
cant even know if they even use mechanical switches or not
that looks to be one of those "mechanical feel" keyboards, so Lam is right, not very good compared
Would any 60 percent plate fit the dz60 v3 pcb?
Not any plate; it depends on the mounting style, top mount vs tray mount for example.
What case?
60 percent wood case for dz60
If it's the one from KBDFans, or Drop I think, then you'll need a a tray mount plate which the screw holes cut out. Make sure the holes align.
hm ok thx
how is macbook air's magic keyboard
weird
how come its mushy when theres no dampeners on the slider?
WAYYYYYY better than the Butterfly keyboard
Oh thank you
is GMMK good?
what switches and keyboard size do you guys use?
60% with no arrow keys and gateron yellow lubed with krytox 205g0
A clicky switch in your daily driver? You must live alone haha
I also use blues and I don’t live alone
But I’m changing them for something else, tactile probably
I mean, its just a joke I've heard about clickys. Have a switch tester and they're definitely not for me.
They aren’t great switches to me unless you really like how they sound
I think for my first custom I'll go with a linear like Ink Blacks v2 with lube and film. Sound tests on youtube are excellent for that combo IMO
I’m going with a tactile. I like how the blues feel for the most part so I think I’ll like that. I’m not a big fan of reds so I don’t think I’ll like linears
I mean its so subjective, just gotta find what you personally like.
I enjoy having some sort of feedback when I press a switch
do note that there are a billion factors that alter the sound of a keyboard
so do not expect your keyboard to sound exactly like a certain sound test
Reds don’t do that for me
This is true
I wanted to go for a tactile but I wanted something that was harder to bottom out, like Cherry clears. But everything I've tried are either too easy to bottom out or too heavy
what switches are currently on your shopping list?
Yes i'm aware, thank you.
Well I saw there was this switch you could make called a holy boba, which is a boba and a holy panda combined. I think it’s the spring and stem from the pandas and the housing of a boba
So maybe that, otherwise perhaps just a panda
That's an expensive frankenswitch to make. I don't even know where you get Bobas anymore.
Yeah that’s the other problem I noticed
directly from gazzew?
Oh is he still selling them directly?
apparently
dm him on reddit
Huh. TIL.
u/hbheroinbob
or his cali partner, u/kirball904
totally depends on your preference
Gateorn browns came stock
theres also gat red and gat blue options
gat brown is cherry mx brown but smoother (so still a light tactile bump_
gat blue is your typical click jacket clicky which produces a rattly click
gat red is one that i can suggest
although the light spring might make you accidentally registers keystrokes if youre not used to the weighting
Listen to that
Ffs it doesn’t even work
I like a smooth colicky keyboard
Is that board hotswap? If so, I'd just get a switch tester and try them in the board.
I kinda wanna save money
What switches would you recommend for a smooth quite and clicky keyboard preference
Does anybody know a good 100% keyboard possibly with red switches and with a driver for macros and stuff?
For under 80$
that aint 100%
i said 100%
Oooooohhhhhhhhh
i already have a gk61 and i hate it
Oh bruh why?
turns out i need all the keys that dont exists in 60% keyboards
brown?
brown switches
lol whats a smooth clicky switch? All clicky switches are tactile and have a bump
No like the typing to be smooth
sorry, but i'm not understanding what you mean
hmmmmmmm
I’ve found some gateorn silvers
Tbh I know nothing about keyboards or switches
Ok
Dm
Oh
Alright thanks I may look into that
Maybe
O
That’s what I mostly know but I’m willing to learn
My experience is that most tactiles have a larger actuation force than bottom out force, so you bottom out the tactile switch anyways
keycaps I mentioned (some keys didn’t even exist like F5 and all that so I had to be resourceful)
I don't think you're wrong Rubbishly, but their focus isnt on keyboards so I dont expect a ton from them. If i want a really good in depth review I'll find a channel dedicated to keyboards
they're great
Awesome
sad I had to sacrifice the vibe by mixing and matching the keycaps it came with and these ones, cause these ones are banger
I wonder how they would look on my Kumara, this one is a velocifire mini mech keyboard
so some keys aren't up to size
Yes you can. “In my opinion these aren’t good to me, however, you may like them. I could recommend them if you like (insert how they are here)”
Tbh yeah
Same with audio stuff, and I’ve noticed that switch and keyboard reviewers along with audio reviewers remind us of preference
glarses momentum
Indeed
glarses is the man
glarses is indeed the man
These are the two type of people I don’t like
-
People who step on others for liking something they don’t. “Oh you didn’t like that? You’re trash, screw you”
-
People who think what they have is the best thing in the world and won’t acknowledge there is better. “Yeah these brown switches are like the best, everything else is garbage lol”
thoughts on outemu browns?
Not a huge fan of browns but I mean they aren’t terrible. They feel closer to linear switches
I’ve used Gateron browns for reference
My favorite cherry-type switch I’ve used is blues
It’s tactile, not great, but I like the tactile-ness
Reds are okay, browns are fine
Box jades are so tactiles.
The jades are also probably one of the loudest switches ive tried
I’m not a fan of cherry switches anymore
They’re fine, I guess. But they’re mediocre
Yeah, Cherry was the og but then their patent expired so they now have competition and they havent innovated in a while
Cherry does have a good website though. ALl the info on their switches is easily available and they include force curves for all their switches
Mx grey?
Is this good for gaming smoothly
gateron yellows are pretty smooth, especially if you want to take the time to lube the switches
Glarses on YT and many other creators have done favorable reviews on them
Any of you know of any keycaps with the letters on the side? Wanna see if maybe I’d like those
Thank you
Maxkeyboards has some too.
I’ll check those out too
YMDK has some options too
My keyboard has some spring ping, would putting foam in it fix that?
Maybe a bit of lube?
Nah man you need keyboard lube lol.
Ye I know, I’d probably ruin my keyboard with that stuff
I know this is kinda a mouse question, but do you have to use slipstream (the Corsair qi thing) when using a Corsair wireless mouse?
No
I don’t really care about this switch anyways
Well I tried wd40 and it sort of worked
I don’t really care about these switches anyways
I have the RedDragon k512 keyboard and i love it!
Alright so the spring ping went away which was my plan in the first place, so that’s good I guess. Sound wise and feel wise, it’s the same
Conclusion: Don’t do this unless you don’t care about your switches or just want to try it
What are those
Oh
yea
inb4 the housing got absolutely destroyed 6 months later
I’ll come back in 6 months and let you know
I’m probably gonna replace these switches soon
So I mean I don’t really care
yea
Do you guys have an tactile switch recommendations?
budget?
for 1 switch
and where are you from?
I’m from the US and I can probably spend like $50, I can go more if needed. I need 90 switches
I’ve considered the bobas
Yeah I can afford those
whats wrong?
suggesting him different tactiles
I’m fine with any recommendations
I’ll consider the sky switches
I’m pretty sure he just replying to the last message I sent, nothing big
Ah
They aren’t like Mx blue switches right?
nope
mx blue is a tactile switch with the side effect of a click sound
I see
I do enjoy my blues but I don’t enjoy the feel too much or the sound
I just like having feedback
you can jailhouse mod it
What’s that
basically immobilize the click jacket to the stem
are kale switches any good?
What switch specifically
gigabyte k85
That’s not a switch
Looked it up, seems like they use kailh red
Kinda meh tbh
What’s your budget, country and preferred size?
then what is the best mediocre keyboard
Probably the one you sent lol
ight
Seems like a basic mediocre gaming keyboard
oki
its ok
buy it
only thing you miss out on is software
kailh is in no way mediocre
Gaming software is doodoo anyway
Kailh reds are pretty mediocre compared to other options
Gateron red, blacks or yellows for example
