There are so many options 😩
yeah you want tactile switches tho they are quiter but have a bump that you feel when it sends the signal
Ayo, what keyboard
Awh shoot @ivory ingot .. I just realized the GMMK doesn't work with QMK/VIA e_e
Yea, just the gmmk pro has qmk support
It's not out though 😦
what keyboard and mouse should i get DM ME a link
Facts
Well.. guess Im sticking with the YMDK
thx
anyone knows a lazy method how to clean keyboard without taking key caps off
Compressed air
Seems like thick PBT caps have become hard to buy as of late? Seems like everyone is OOS
ye £20 is annoying tbh so i probably won’t get it
switch opener arrived, but... how should i lube my switches...
can someone suggest a good full sized mech keyboard with international shipping, nothing too fancy or expensive just wanna get started
Define expensive? Price range for expensive keeb varies a LOT with the individual
glorious gmmk is 100 us
Anyone got experience with Topre switches? Cause I am wondering how mushy they are. The PCB should make it a lot less mushy than usual rubber domes, but do they have the same kind of hard stop like usual MX style switches?
Around 110 or so USD
But i would not mind something lower priced if it's quality
They dont ship to my region (asia) also none of their authorized stores have it :cri:

Maybe lttstore could make one :p xD
I’m wondering if I should get Kailh Speed Pro Light Greens
But idk if it will fit in my new PCB
And I don’t wanna return a 3rd pack of switches
Mine have been rotting in the parts box since about two hours after I got them
So you don’t like them or?
Tactile bump feels like its in the wrong place, often it felt like i had pressed/released the key when the change hadn't registered
If you like a good tactile feel for typing, the speed tactiles will throw you off a lot in my experience
Hm
Would you recommend any tactiles?
For some reason lately I’ve been hyperactive in my hands and I mess up on typing a lot more
Prefer it subtle or real strong?
Hmm
Well I’m used to mx browns
And I thought they were nice and all
But there wasn’t much of a good bump
If you want something super tactile, Box Royals are prettymuch that
novelkeys sells em, $55 for a fullsize board worth
70 count bag is only 35
Just 2 more dollars than a 60 count of light greens lol
Wait so actuation is harder than bottoming out?
Huh
Yea, tactile bump on those is pretty extreme
Well I mean
I’m looking for an all around typing and gaming experience but also a nice bump that’s noticeable but not overkill
Honestly for gaming tactile, my recomendation is boring old Cherry MX Browns
Not much of a bump but its very well placed for gaming in my experience
Maybe I could mix a few switches
But I don’t have that kinda money
Wait
I forgot
I already have browns
Just the bottom housings are broken
61 of em
how'd ya break 61 bottom housings?
Bad soldering
oof
Skipped the soldering phase of the hobby personally. Went from pre-soldered boards to hotswap boards.
Almost all the high end stuff is hotswap now anyways
Yeah I bought a ducky one 2 mini and desoldered everything just to realize I only wanted the case and plate
Amusingly my old filco majestouch with soldered mx browns is my daily driver again. That thing just keeps on trucking despite everything thats happened to it and the number of times I've tried to replace it
desoldering is a pain
I've bought 3 mechs, built 2, of which the only 2 that are still working are the least interesting ones, said filco and a WASD v1 with mx blacks.
But I’ve never soldered anything
A lot of the destruction of my browns was me not having a key switch puller
And using two tweezers lol
Yea, that sounds like a recipe for burnt bottom housings
I don’t think I would ever have the patience to manually lube switches
How much does the bottom of a switch housing affect the feel of a click
Lubed browns with QMX clips here
nice
I need some help with something
Changes the feel a lot since they reduce pretravel
Does this PCB have stabilizer housings
don't have one handy at the moment, at work atm
Yeah that
Yeah they do
What kind
screw in stabs are screw in and clip in you just clip in
so you want screw in?
Oh ok
Seems like there are more and more variants of stabs these days
Yeah 25 on Amazon
Usually my goto is costar plate stabs but those are super unpopular with board designers these days
idk, i think screw in stabs are worth the extra money
Yeah idk why I want PCB Mount I just heard it’s better but more expensive from the internet
Yea, pcb stabs seem to be the popular choice currently
Last board I built used mixed stabs
I literally got my ducky one 2 mini like 5 months ago and I’m already ripping it apart
pcb mount for everything but the spacebar
uhhh
Lol, my filco has been in service 16 years now
Wow.
Its on its 3rd set of keycaps, but that would have only been 2 sets if i just bought PBT replacements the first time
I mean the keyboard worked and all but I just got bored of it
So I had the random idea of going through a month of headaches soldering things and waiting for packages to arrive
Yea, prettymuch how I've ended up building/buying more keebs. Somehow the filco keeps finding its way back to my gaming rig though
drop CTRL and k-type died from ESD and failed firmware flash respectively. Ergodox I just didn't like. Likewise with a cheap 60% hotswap i bought
I want to try and put an old solder plate switch in my new hotswap so bad but I’m 90% positive it’s broken down pins will get stuck and come off inside of it
Got any interesting stuff on your switch tester?
not familiar with that pcb
Some KPRepublic brand
GMMK pro
GMMK barebones compact
So for the gmmk pro, it can support 5 pins and 3 pins, but the gmmk compact barebones it can only support 3 pin unless u snip off 2 pins from a 5pin switch right?
So for example, something like this would only work in the GMMK pro right?
Pretty much.
aight thanks polaristar
nope
I don't have a keyswitch tester lol
Yeah that is 5 pin
so bright
Yeah I need to get some dang key switches before I go blind
Opinion on Cherry MX Board 3.0 S? (Im tempted to buy it with browns) i can only afford 100€, want it silent, tactile, single key rgb, and with numpad.
I am running a Membrane rn and like the tactile bump of it (Speedlink Accusor). Tho it can register keys too often and uh.. i need to press it to the bottom to activate it which is annoying.. also what does the "S" mean? Are there other options of that board?
Also im new to all of this and dont plan on going too deep into the rabbit hole.. like im fine with a membrane if it wouldnt register 1 press as like 3 presses or if it wouldnt just ignore my presses
Mechanical kb with less than 20 USD
any chinese knockoff will be as good or better than cherry
cherry or not should not be a deciding factor
Keybored
better pricing too
Any Kailh Box Browns that come in PCB mount or is that still not a thing
Is it any good?
decent, its a full kb, the RGB is less to be desired, but its mechanical so yeah
its not membrane
its blue switches
a fully blown mechanical kb
Any Chinese mechanical keyboard will almost always have some form of mx blue clone
local shop called "lazada"
i see
though I suppose its available too elsewhere
just look for Gigaware K30
thats the exact thing
it seems overpriced though in @potent void
I saw a K28 selling for 34 USD
in amazon
its alright, not looking to buy one just wanted to learn more about it
Can someone recommend a 800$ pc with monitor
Not too hard, just a lil :)
if only 3060 was normal price
More like anything that contains silicon, even motherboards have increased in price
mhm
If you're fine with it, try going for 2nd hand options
Much better prices, especially now
Wrong channel
but alot of potatoes and put ur cables in it, prob will perform better than what u can buy rn
well i kinda hate the clickyness of blues.. and well.. i want like decent rgb, because of reasons.. and i honestly dont mind that the mx brown almost feels like an bad linear since i do also some gaming. or has it like some bad stabs or something? and some cheap chinese thing isnt an option for me, since well.. i want something from a manufatorer where i know that they build some good stuff. also a bad board and keycaps make the browns feel bad.. tho like i know nothing about the board and all of the Cherry MX Board 3.0S.. i guess keyboards are litterally just a buy and hope thing?
like i also dont plan on buying an custom model, since i really dont need such high tech stuff, like.. im coming from an bad membrane here... any switch should be besser than that..
like more consistent in its presses
Is there any reason any company would use north-facing LEDs?
I want to know because I can't think of a reason.
north is the top of the switch right?
Ye
Well is there a reason they won't fit?
Because there are 60% boards with south-facing LEDs.
Well idk, some crazy shit pcb layout?
Btw, someone might know, is there like a 1.5mm travel switch?
Might build a laptop with em some day, would be cool ig
https://deskthority.net/wiki/index.php?search=low+profile&title=Special%3ASearch&go=Go
Maybe you can find some here.
Thanks for the info.
No problem
north facing because their backlit keycaps wont look good with the legends on the bottom
Anythink quieter than browns
With that same feel
I type 30% faster on mechanical, but dont want to be that guy who brings a clicky keyboard to office
As someone who can hear that guy across the office..... yea...
Quiet but with a small tactile bump?
silent box browns maybe
QMX-clipped browns
Any brand of keyboard as well
I mean you can QMX clip any mx brown board if you already have one
silenced topre
Not gonna have many answers there, unfortunately. Most fully-assembled keyboards come with a choice of reds, blacks, browns, blues, or maybe the odd speed silver or Gateron yellow.
the best stock keyboard you can buy is silenced topre
if money is not a problem go and look for a topre r2 tkl limited edition 55g
the limited editions are the silenced ones
will give them a look
what about that gmmk or whatever and buy some silent switches?
oh wait you need caps too
yea, hard to go wrong with the clips if you like MX brown
tons of off the shelf board options for browns afterall
Leaning glorious pandas or box silent pinks for a gmmk pro, really comes down to if i like the pandas
my bad, there are no 55g limited editions
they only come in 45g it seems
theres a 55g silenced one that isnt limited edition but seems to be a jp only model
Hello
anyone experienced with Macro setup? I currently working as Freelance business Analyst, and my client is ask me to write some documentation on jira confluence
the thing is this tools is far inferior than Ms Word when it come in word processing, and it really painful because they haven't setup a Keyboard shortcut plugin
I want to assign some key on my keyboard/mouse when I work to at least these area, so I don't have to manually click every time I clean up the heading, any idea for this?
I'll use Edge chromium for this to separate my work browser and my personal one,
I have G102 LS ans G512
@strong ocean
anyone experienced with Macro setup?
@TaranVanHemert#1234
@strong ocean what’s the program you’re using?
clicky clacky
wheres the keyboard that sounds like mr krabs walking
i need one
this bad membrane keyboar
d
I think you mean blue switches
oo great another channel for me to mute
box jades? idk
no
stay
join us
one of us
hmmmm
Its pretty nice here
ill check em out later
it's browser based
alright what website is it?
Confluence
thank u very much

i have an idea for what you might be able to use
oh
well i was thinking you could use an auto clicker and program it to click where you need
one i used you can change the amount of time and use keyboard shortcuts to start it
Is this a good hot-swap keyboard?
Is this your first build?
yeah, well im debating on building my own kb or just buying one thats already built
Durgod hades 68 is the prebuilt one im looking at rn.
And you've decided that a 60% layout is what you need?
I see.
I can attest to the RK84 since my brother has one. Sounds and feels pretty nice for a $100 CAD hotswappable wireless keyboard.
It does have north-facing LEDs and the software is garbage but I would probably expect that at this price.
If you're buying a barebones, just remember to factor in the cost of keycaps, switches, lube, etc.
this is kinda related to keyboards but is this good for its price
I mean
RGB SSDs and RAM waterblocks exist.
An RGB mousepad is far from the weirdest thing.
i mean all the rbg mousepads ive seen have pretty bad light intensity
good luck lol
Rgb gaming CAR?
Imagine buying a corsa instead of a monaro
Does it look like I bought it
Does it look like i asked
Yes you did...
WRONG
Any luck?
I can set it up but no free option
Ah
I feel like some virtual mouse macro software exists somewhere
I mean someone has got to have made that
eh
Found this
Best WordPress Theme Ever

I mean autohotkey has been a thing since forever
i was not aware of that until right now
i had a razer firefly; it was overwhelmingly mediocre
hey yall so quick question. anyone got suggestions for good keyboards with short key throws? ive been running a dell cheapo keyboard and though its run really well for the past 5 years im wanting a new better keyboard. some constraints are quiet, less than half an inch of actuation, and a ten-key. ive been looking for a while but i cant really find anything that i like (or trust).
how much are you looking to spend? the keychron k1 is slim. i dont know much about short throw so im going off some of the info i saw online
something like this?
Where can I get key caps for gx brown switch’s
Make sure your keyboard uses standard spacing and is compatible with other keycaps, then figure out what type of stem your switches have, then find some that you like :)
Well, this is oddly well timed.
I was just going to ask in tech channel about it; I should invest in a wireless keyboard and mouse, and if it'd be possible to quickly alternate which PC they are connected to (so that I can go back and fourth on both PC's as needed)? Or how would any of that work?
like, I have 2 desktops, and I may sometimes use them simeltaneously, but having 2 sets of peripherals would be space consuming, and constantly unplugging and replugging my current peripherals would get annoying.
(or is that still more suited for one of the tech channels?)
There is a way
Synergy
Its paid but it works the best
Anyone any idea about when Leopold is going to make ISO keyboards? I have read that they are planning to do so but that was like a year or two ago.
Is Synergy a software, or is it something you buy that can link and swap peripherals between two things?
Software.
A USB switch
Hardware alternatives could involve something like a KVM switch or a USB switch as vibinz noted. KVM does keyboard, video, and mouse, allowing you to share ONE set of peripherals between 2 or more PC's, while a USB switch only switches USB devices between 2 or more PC's.
There are a plethora of KVM's out there, most of which are extremely buggy or have weird compatibility problems, so I'd only recommend Level1Tech's KVM switches at the moment.
https://store.level1techs.com/?category=Hardware
MX blue is clearly the best MX keys.
MX Browns > All
I personally like my MX Reds
No shit, MX Browns are MX Reds with bread stuck inside it.
Doesnt go clicky clicky
It’s really just personal preference
I personally would like to use Topre, but I can't find any Topre sample keys.
lol, even among the astute and long time keyboard buyers and builders nobody says one switch is better than the other, its all about preference
"long time keyboar buyer" lmao
Been buying keyboards for a long time
🤠
Rubbish, it is scientifically proven by Steven Hawking that MX Browns, in fact, are trash. Personal taste, pfffff.
MX Blue is epic for LAN Partys,
Just annoy the eneny till' death.
Just get a Model M.
Not made out of money smh
Made out of a heat treated steel plate.
If you lose, just knock the shit out of your enemy.
Once you have done that, you will magically win every game.

I use Mouse Without Borders (free!) and a USB switch as a backup. Works damn well.
I have a weird use case where I want to use Discord while keeping a full screen application like a game still open.
And it works.
Ye
I do recommend Mouse Without Borders if you want something super simple. There are problems with it, though, like how it does not like switching to a computer with a screensaver active lmao
membrane best switch
U C DA ICE?
Oa huh
What board is that?
Kbd75?
@fiery vale Issue?
Yes I do.
What so?
where?
There.
where?
All over the place.
what place
Joes.
who's ligma
Deez
nuts
tofu65 with stupidfish foam for the case and the plate-pcb. OA's are amazing switches
model Ms are membranes
gonna build my own keyboard once i saved 500 dollar
This channel is new from the last time I was here
Any advice on printing your own PBT keycaps?
You can write the legends on with a sharpie
You need specialised tooling to dyesub legends
Same with printing legends on
Probably
Yeah no I'm not using a sharpie. I'll stick to printing.
And how will you do that
can someone identify the keyboard in the picture?
Pavolia Reine best birb
I see you're a man of culture as well
Linus used a DIY solution but I'll find a better way.
It's a compact full-size
most likely custom
Hey so only the top row of my keyboard is lighting up can someone help ?
Uhhh idk, unplug and plug back in? I honestly don't know how to fix rgb issues
What KB is it?
BM60 poker PCB
@raw turret thanks for the help. I did find this post on geekhack (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=109390.msg2975043#msg2975043) which is similar to the one in the picture but not the same
[IC] Zambumon Sar: Compact 1800 Keyboard
Compact 1800 maybe
nah I don't think that's it. it's similar because of the keyboard format but the status lights are vertical on the 1800 vs horizontal
anybody here tried out the gmmk?
(60%, not pro)
im thinking of buying, but wanted to hear some other's experiences first
(im not a fan of keyboard review channels, as i find them to be quite snobby)
Not sure what else you expected from a hobby that's almost entirely subjective though.
Some will come off as pretentious with their descriptions of tactile bumps, for example, but that's how they can describe it.
that catto tho...
Just remember it's all about preference. There are people who love membranes and MX browns and blues and that's fine. If there's no objective measurement to determine how "good" a keyboard switch is, then it's not worth trying to tell people what's worth buying or not as gospel — only as suggestions and opinions.
hm true
nah i mean that alot of reviewers (from the half dozen ive breifly watched) tend to just say that everything is garbage, without highlighting the good things
That said, though, there are a few things to note:
- The hotswap system on the PCB is 3-pin, meaning you will need to clip off the extra two on 5-pin switches.
- The keycaps are ABS, so they will wear and cause unwanted shininess with time.
- The LEDs are north-facing, so from a typical typing angle LEDs will shine with a bit less brightness.
- The plate and the face are aluminum, and the backside is plastic.
ok thx heaps :)
im just getting the barebones tho btw, so idc about the default keycaps
im not a huge fan of rgb either, so that doesnt really bother me (the keycaps im gonna get are solid, no shine-through) PBT btw
how do i find out how many pins my switches are (im planning on getting Kailh Pro Purples)?
any thoughts on pro purples btw?
Just clip the two legs and you'll be fine.
As for the pro purples, I don't know. I only have experience with Cherry/Gateron blues, blacks, reds, and browns, Durock T1's, and Drop Halo Clears.
First custom keyboard finished. Nk creams lubed and filmed, aluminum plate, modded stabs
I love that sound
sounds so nice
Hs anybody ordered from this? getting krytox in the UK is something else man
Ive had an issue with my keyboard for a few months. most the times I press my f4 key It comes up slowly and becomes harder to press and my V key is harder to press and most the time it gets stuck when i press it for about 2 seconds and it justs spams v and it comes up by its self slowly. does anybody know why?
Its a membrane keyboard
The Razer cynosa chroma
and ive taken the keys out and there is no dust or anything that could cause the issue
I would take apart your keyboard and make sure everything looks good under the hood
as well as clean it there while you are at it
It might help
Did it come like that?
Sounds like when I spilled gatorade on my board one time. There was sticky residue that caused a lag-friction
I did spill coke on it once actually but that was only a few drops
If those few drops specifically spilled on the v and f4 keys then yea
Otherwise it's probably just the plastic wearing out
Tofu65
C3 stabs 205g0
Original Aspiration switches, deskey films+205g0
Stupidfish case+pcb foam
PBT Notion caps
im in love
any good place to find gateron optical silent reds?
any thoughts on the hyper x alloy origins, considering getting it
Are those keychron keycaps?
Why must MX Blues be so loud?
The moment u come into this channel for the first time and thought it was about the musical instrument keyboard
Yeah. I have some coming from drop next week
Ah nice
bruh nice setup
Thanks!
like really nice setup what mic is that?
oh yea can someone help me make a custom keyboard build list?
It's a Shure SM7B
really nice sounding keyboard comapred to my reddragon with offbrand blues
are gateron silent switches good?
anyone able to recommend a tkl keeb for win and mac ?
its all about the sound for all i know
by this do you mean what you need for a keyboard build?
They are but lubed and filmed they are very muted compared to ink blacks
I have gateron silent yellows on my kb rn
Gateron's silencing qc is meh at best
The silencing for linears at least, will make stock silents sound scratchy
i lubed and filmed mine (filming could be argued to be useless for silents but whatevr) and it's reduced
But an individual switch still feels scratchy
built inside a kb, it goes away for me
Cherry is much better at silencing their switches than Gateron
But it should be fine if you properly lube your switches
If you live in the US or Canada
There's a really great small business called KeebsForAll that sells quality stuff for pretty cheap
About the only thing cherry is good for
They are releasing a 60% case kit atm
Replied to wrong message 😩
130 bucks i believe for a high profile alu case, durock v2 stabs, alu plate and pcb
Don't forget 300 for a gmk set because lead times are a year long and people love flipping
lol
if you need one now
look at their pcb, plate, and switch selection and see what you like
They developed their own pcb+ alu plate which is around 35 together
+20 for durock v2 screw in stabs
- x amount * 63 for the switches you want
Then 60 bucks for a budget high prof alu case
The poseidon psd60 and kbdfans 5 degree alu cases are both 60 bucks rn
If you don't need your kb silent though, I'd highly recommend just buying gateron milky yellows
prob the best budget switch that everyone can agree on ^
their pcb and plate also allows you to put in an arrow cluster in the bottom right if you want, similar to the DZ60 but not entirely the same
keycaps are up to you, 20-45 bucks for a budget keycap set should be good
I bought some HKgaming keycaps which people say are budget GMK and they feel pretty good
if you're going for PBT in that price range, make sure to look for Dye-Sub
so 15.50 pcb + 20.00 alu plate + 20.00 stabs + ~16-70 (depends on which switch you go for) + 60 alu case + ~30 for keycaps = ~162 bucks for a pretty decent budget kb
Up to you
You okay with clicky?
Plus for 155 you could build the keyboard I listed above!
ur call though
wireless is nice
Linus has some pretty bad takes on keyboards
LOL
but yeah it's a great keyboard
I guess we'll find out.
Yeah, the rgb is really nice and bright, low profile, logitech's wireless lightspeed is unmatched
plus it looks really clean
It better lmao.
I have tactile right now.
it's just that anyone else in my room hates it lol
Yea haha.
I have my own room for now.
So I guess whenever I cross that bridge, I'll get to find out.
i went from clicky -> tactile > linear
well i have a custom kb and lubed/flimed my switches
my prev kb was the ck553 with gat browns
and it is so much louder when i compared it
then again i did get silent linears
gateron browns (at least on this kb) just felt a lil scratchy and the stabs were garbage
my custom kb feels like chocolate to type on
But in all honesty, it's all up to preference
the stabilizer quality is undisputed though
but i think logitech's low profile GL switches are praised
Yea I have the G413 right now.
I had it since 2017.
Pretty sure.
The clips or whatever for the key caps have been slowly breakking off.
So every now and then, a keycap would pop off when I type.
Kinda annoying lmao.
Hold up let me take picture.
Romer g
^
but yeah the g915 looks realll good
It's been a thing since they came out
oof
Kinda bought it when it was like $90, now it's $60.
Oop.
But I mean, it's not built cheaply.
Maybe the keycaps, but the frame of it is metal.
Or whatever.
I could hurt someone with this.
Yea people shit on gaming keyboards
But as long as they're priced right they really aren't that bad
logitech makes good keyboards
ive heard logitech keys are problematic
rgb is a pretty big selling point that custom builders don't care about
IMHO though, if someone is going to spend 200+ on a kb
it would be more worthwhile to look into a custom one
as at that price, it would be more worth it to get an arguably better quality keyboard
Sadge.
but it really depends on what you want
The custom keyboard community is very toxic and elitist
rgb, low profile, wireless is just a luxury.
I don't recommend getting into it
like as i said, logitech's light speed wirless is the best, second to none
Oh really?
true that
a lot of kb people are elitist
it's a pretty nuanced niche with a lot of info (that is pretty much useless)
but the rabbit hole is deep
looks pretty good tho
and allows for that elitism for people who don't understand
it does
tru
i don't like the elitism either
but i think for people who are dropping 200+, a custom kb would give them a way better experience, typing wise
depends on where you live
lmao
im happy with gateron silent yellows lol
i really can't see myself justify a 500+ kb
maybe tealios or gat black inks are my endgame
Gat yellows are perfectly fine
yeah ik
You don't need to upgrade
yee
lol my endgame is a asus tuff k3 with brown switches xD
lool
Haha
to be fair its like 75 dollars
I'm planning on commissioning a friend of mine from when I was still into customs to design a case for my 87u
No the 87u is a discontinued realforce
that sounds interesting
The one with a massive 4head
It's fine
Even I don't know what's going on with customs now
There are like 30 different linear switches alone
And every single group buy is a 75/65% with gasket mount all of a sudden
GMMK Pro had something to do with that lol
No?
you either aren't deep enough of you're one of those people
No?
its not that simple lol
If the community was toxic, then there wouldnt be beginner builds, helpful people in the MK communities, and such. Dont let one person sour a community for you, look behind it and move on. Toxic people exist in every community, but its our job to shun and disregard and not give attention to these people
you dont know what i experienced and you dont know what these people did
i dont expect you to understand it either
brUH
It’s the same with audio, but again that goes with all communities
tru
I dont know man I’m just here to look like at pretty key caps and listen to long bois that go “clicky clacky”
click clack go brr
Clickity clackity
im using some miniso membrane board lol
wUT
ahh

got a sample?
I use blue switches too
it's a typical blue switches clicky sound
Keychron K2 Gateron blue
I wanted to switch them out for some tactile ones because I don’t really like the sound
Sad I didn’t get the hotswap edition but oh well, soldering is fine
Speaking of Beginner Builds, I wanna use the Kalith Kalth wahtever cream switches for my keyboard but the Board that I picked out has this really nice wooden case and is a Hotswap board. Can I still use the Cream switches with a hotswap board? Cus the Cream switches are solder switches as far as I know
yes you can
do I need to change anything about the board or can I just solder it as normal?
you cant solder switches onto a hotswap socket
oh
I don’t think it matters, only difference is one board requires soldering while the other is plug and play
maybe I should just get hotswap keys
maybe yellows or something like that
or Holy Pandas Kappa
You’re making a custom keyboard?
there is no such thing as a hotswap switch
as long as the contact pins can fit into the socket it'll work
you're definitely right about that
but i think that the sheer amount of information just enables elitism more so than other hobbies
creams are 5 pin so if the pcb doesnt have the holes for the extra 2 you'll have to snip them off
What are the extra 2 pins for?
stability i guess
they dont really matter if you're going to have a plate
you can even do pcb mounts with 3 pins if you're good enough
thats a madlad move
Does anyone know a good way to make my switches not sticky anymore. I have a mechanical keyboard with flaretech linear55s, and I recently spilt soda on them but even after taking apart the switches and cleaning them with 70% isopropyl alcohol, they are still sticky.
dishwasher method
ultrasonic
I dont have access to a dishwasher
nuke em
soak them for longer?
ultrasonic cleaners are essential if you want to get into keyboards
old toothbrush and 99 percent isopropal
I dont want to get into keyboards, I just dont enjoy having some of my switches sticky lol
Is it safe to wash switches like that?
yes
make sure to dry em well
of course
I will in the near future
my keyboard broke since I spilled coffee over it and now Im stuck with a shitty ornata chroma
and I dont want that
Ouch
$12 dell keyboard from Best Buy
I wish I could get that lmao
cus then BestBuy would sell to my country
and I could even have a chance of getting a 30 series card
sameeeeeee xD
ima just wait for 40 series now
might as well save up
get a 4090or whatever when it comes out
I spent all my money in quarantine idk where it all even went
so no gpu for me in the near future
oof
O.o
make sure it has a broken number row, enhances the experiance
Ah yes
my w key is bad. How can i clean superglue under a laptop keyboard's key without damaging the laptop.
Do i have to freakin take out the motherboard for that? Again?
depends on what laptop you have
you can try getting it away with some isopropyl alcohol, that should evaporate without effect if it gets on any bad party
how do you even get superglue on your keyboard tho
W KEY begun to pop out itself without my permissions lol
so superglue was the best way?
anyone able to recommend a keeb or know how to fix mine
it keeps disconnecting but the rgb stays on and i cant press any key at it keeps doing that
then i get the connecting sound on windows and it just doesnt work
try a different usb port?
only rgb stays on
i have to wait like 5 minutes for it to come back to life
and
usb power saving is off
damn
its a ducky one 2 mini
at this point id assume something on the pcb broke, but maybe someone else could help
i was thinking the same no liquid damage nothing
ok
anyone know a nice hot swappable keyboard i can get under 160?
Greetings, i am wondering, are the leopold keyboards any good.
And do you maybe have any other suggestions for a 100$ keyboard. I like linear or tactile just not clicky, because i irritate my family with them
buddy this is a dead space
pretty sure most of the people here are from america
so i guess it more active at night in the eu
Well I am so you probably aren’t wrong
unless u are from the US
Oh.... that makes so much sense
Im from EU lmao, i didnt even think about that
my bad
i mean just get molten plastic and you can say its a very hot keyboard
feel u bruv
ducky one 2 mini literally gave up on me
just... died?
it keeps disconnecting and the LEDs stay on
plus the left shitft dont work from time to time
im looking for a keyboard cuz i slammed my desk and one of the stabilizers popped out, as soon as i took that mf out it was done, such shitty stabilizers i couldnt for the life of me fix em
just smack it, maybe itll change its mind
did that too
theyre a pain, cuz i keep hearing from my parents how loud it is
ok might as well throw it away
ah, like my girlfriend, when she stopps being nice
damn, you sure it isnt possesed by some baddie
might be
phahahhhah
i clean it like every month with a dam cloth and the keys too
let it dry for a while just decides to not work
maybe the duck needs water?
quack
wack
indeed
it needs a few frames where the duck drops dead
yeah
Keychron k2 any good?
what are some good non rgb keyboards
filco, leopold, realforce/hhkb
Is the Gskill km360 good?
varmilo
Anecdotal, but my filco is going on 16 years of use and still zero issues. The boards I bought to replace it over the years? All dead.
one of my local retailer says they gonna have a full size gmmk in a month or so
is it a good purchase for around 10-20 dollars above msrp because of import duties
hmmm how much is that
Around 120$
For just the gmmk body
Full size
I have no clue where im gonna get keys from tho xD
nah, i think typing directly on the switches is better
Make sure to wear gloves xD
But any suggestions on the gmmk for 120$
Just the body
No switches or caps
jeez, thats a lot
hm, not sure if thats a good buy or not
msrp for a barebones is half that
i like how it looks
the pro is sexy, the regular gmmk not so much
Yea, same uninspired lopro design as all the other mid-market alu-boards like the drop ones
i want that esc key
i just got a email from the store saying its 90 dollars {msrp is 60}
i really cannot find any other brown switch full size keyboard
in my region
aka india xD
really? none of the asian brands are avaliable there?
Are getting keycaps worth it? I currently have a razer blackwidow tournament edition
If so what are some good keycaps
Probably not worth throwing caps on a prebuilt gaming board unless you functionally need new caps
Do you think pre built gaming boards are worth it?
Usually no
not one bit, but I've also been accused of thinking RGB and crappy proprietary peripheral software that require logins is bad.
“Gaming boards” from big brands like Razer, Corsair etc are 9 times out of 10 overpriced
the filo is 160 usd from the one store that sells here and the varmillo is 170+
Are their boards low quality then?
Honestly the price isn't that terrible on them, my real gripe is the build quality is just bad.
Oh well what Ailia said answers your question lmao
170?!
where r u from
india
holy fuck, no then dont buy that shi
With the money I bought my Razer Blackwidow, what can I buy instead?
Sometimes, can’t stand corsair charging like, $130 USD for a keyboard that is no better built then one that is $50
Any recommendations
ill check ducky, they sell via drop right?
If you just want something that'l last 10 years with no issues, go with a costar OEM board like Filco Majestouch 2
Basically no features other than being a keyboard, but it does that one thing well
^
Do you get the boards, switches and keycaps all separately?
wasdkeyboards also sells costar OEM boards for a bit less than the imported filco
filco's are complete boards with soldered switches
Do you want a soldered board or hotswap?
Actually what's the difference
can replace the switches in a hotswap board without specialized skills
Do ppl normally get hotswap
Its a more expensive option usually, so usually budget dependant
Oh how much of a budget does it take for a hotswap
And when you say budget does it mean for the whole set or just the board
Varies a lot to put it mildly, but its usually more expensive than the same style of board without hotswap by 30-50
if you are in the usa i assume so
The realm of budget chineese boards has a lot of decent boards and a lot of crap
That's really WHY people buy said gaming boards is they are priced in the range of money people "expect" rather than the typical 160-450ish range of enthusiast keyboards
Whats wrong with this one?
So my choices might be limited
@worn storm could you recommend me some keyboards below 10p
100
The low end market is super regional
For mechanical boards, more or less, yea
100-200ish generally. That range covers most of the more popularly recomended entry level stuff like ducky, varmillo, filco, leopold, ect
Above that you get into enthusiast stuff and customs like the GMMK Pro and whatever hot group buy of the week there is
i dont really know much about it
Seems like a pretty basic variant of their fullsize config
What do you think of getting a second hand keyboard instead?
If I were to get a second hand mid range keyboard
Would it be bad
it got no backlight is what i just realized
I wouldn't have any complaints daily driving that. Checks all the things I'd look for in a workhorse board
Less likely to be bad and more likely to be disgusting?
If I were to clean it and all that
if you like mx browns you will probably not like kailh browns and vice versa
i havent actually felt these keys before
im just assuming what i would like
tactile feel but not loud
mx brown is a pretty safe starting point. Not sure I'd recommend kailh browns specifically to someone who has never used a mech board before.
Theyre a bit more aggressivly tactile than the mx
so the store got cherry mx brown rgb for 7$/10 piece and glorious pandas 34$/36 piece
a full board with a gmmk would set me back 190
the drop board looks pretty good now ngl xD
Personally I've had bad luck with drop, but I might be an outlier at 2 dead boards out of 3
anyone here able to recommend a nice keeb under 150 gbp or like 180 usd?
gaming board or enthusiast board?
both if thats possible
thats quite unfortunate
Probably something from ducky if your looking for RGB, not an expert in their part numbers though so your going to have to do some searching
white rgb is fine
i got a ducky one 2 mini but its chalked
keeps turning off and just keeps the rgb on and disconnects at random
I’m not familiar with that high of budget tbh, usually I’d recommend a Womier K61/K87 for people who want lots of RGB, GK61XS is nice too
They’re nice “budget” hotswap keyboards if you’re into that
Yea, not all that knowledgeable on backlit boards in that price range myself.
GK61XS has RGB but when it’s off it’s still really clean with stock key caps
Omg
Stock stabs are bit bad but you could just mod them
I can’t even say the p word here smh
I’ve heard some of the Durgods are good but not sure
I wouldn't complain. Decent switch options. PBT keys. Looks like cherry style stabs?
Can't say I'm a fan of ISO boards, but that's mostly just the reality over there unless you want to be that guy in the office with an ANSI board.
small layout difference, yea
really?
I kind love the ISO standard keyboard
but that probably has to do with fact that I grew up with it
ANSI is getting more popular over here, seeing it on laptops more and more. Tbh I'm used to it now and prefer it over the iso layout
so i just got gateron reds, but they wont fit in my hotswap keybord . help
im using the keyboard that came with my dads old prebuilt office desktop
good for typing
Tesco keyboard
Germany here, and uhm no thanks, ISO it is 100%
you want it? its yours my friend
Any recommendations for keybaords under $150, with RGB
keychron k2
Any other choices
Maybe some logictech gaming ones
I heard it's not advisable to get gaming brands cuz it's not worth the price
Which is true
