DP i would get, especially with the latch you have to push most of the time
i mean, peopel are differnt
typed that with my phone btw
so yeah i dont like to use my phone when i have a real keyboard literally at my fingertips xD
and my screen is already 6.2'' iirc
that would suck yes, but if you have a spare DP port you can use a DP to USB C cable. I did use HDMI straight to the laptop for a while but it's far from as smooth of a solution as USB C
yeah, i hate it that GPUs have 3 DP 1 HDMI usually
but monitors have 1DP max and a flood of HDMI
if its on office 60Hz bc its the standard there, sure i get it
but on high refresh gaming monitors?
Yeah it's super annoying
i mean my 600€ 4k OLED has 1 DP 2 HDMI
yeah im using the colours and 0.1 ms pixel response time to my advantage in spreadsheets
understandable
I want an oled monitor for work because I work in IT and look at terminals all day
I want my terminal to be true black 😎
xDDDD
and i'm not even joking lol i really want oled for this
wild
but you do you
seems a bit like you have a toxic relationship to your bank account tho
everytime I launch a terminal on my other screens (litterally every single one of the others are oled) I'm like " I NEED THAT FOR THE WORK MONITOR"
there is a deal for a miniLED at least xD
also its wild to me that i still have the same income, and just a few years ago i had to not buy a case for my pc and lay it on the mainboard box, while the gpu was a gift from a friend
and now im looking at 3 monitors that cost more than all my displays i ever had combined
well in the end pc gaming isn't thaaat expensive when you have a steady income
you just save up for that
the thing is not having 200 hobbies lol
no it's not 😢
@tame thistle dont be like this guy
Cool conversation
for me it was mainly that i dont pay nearly as much on food as i did 5 years ago and i dont care to have like 6 different pairs of shoes and buy new clothes every few months and all that anymore.
and from that time i have such a stash of clothes i dont have to buy new ones besides some essentials or a piece or 2 i really want, similar for stuff like furniture
well and i dont pay a dime for games and movies anymore
Facebook marketplace seems to have the dumbest buyers
Got a dell u2311h monitor for $27. Only issue is after messing with its settings now has a short green line on its screen. Now I'm decent with solidering, could I refurbish and fix it?
Hm
This guy is next level.
Imagine being this rude on marketplace.
Literally tied to their IRL identities.
Fr
I have had 6 people ask if something was available in a row, and no response after I said yes.
Depends entirely on what's causing the green line. If it's the LCD panel or the display control board, it's not worth the time / effort to open it up, assuming you have the skills and equipment to perform board level soldering of micro-sized components. This assumes you can even get parts for a 15 year old monitor.
Apparently some people just get something called a universal display board and use that.
Again, depends on what's causing the green line. If it's the LCD panel itself, connecting the panel to an external / third party display controller won't solve the problem. You'd have to try it to find out.
my bottleneck is unbearable
shouldnt that be pretty balanced for 1080? whats your bottleneck?
yeah but the 9700k also isnt really the powerhouse
yeh it is until I play games like fh
well Ill get a 5060 ti
but its capitalism and games are not getting optimized

Hello,
I'm stopping flightsim, could anyone help me evaluate how much my gear is worth ?
I have a vkb t rudder V basically unused
A hotas warthog throttle and the warthog stick is mounted on a winwing super libra base + i have the winwing extension (and the warthog base)
I live in EU; €€
Anyone have a recommendation for a pink-ish keyboard? more like on the budget friendly end not the high end stuff
Preferably available in europe for around 100 eur
irok mg75 pink if you don’t mind 75% layout, no volume knob, proprietary switches and you gotta beware of the sketchy drivers, availability can also vary depending on where you live such as if you don’t have access to aliexpress (like austria)
but it’s one of the cheapest aluminum + hall effect keyboards
womier sk tmr if you can go little over €100
if you want a keyboard with better materials and sound i’d avoid hall effect
or tmr
there are bunch of metal kbs available at around €100 even 100% ones
What does evryone think bout this model: AOC OLED Q27G41ZDF
In my country I have for 359€
I guess it's in the EU, that's cheap, do you have the link ?
I'm hesitating between a cheap 1440p oled while waiting for a dope oled screen, like RGB stripe + 39" 5K2K + high refresh rate
Or just a current gen 4K oled
I'd probably get a keyboard of your choice, then swap out the keycaps with pink ones
If you don't have at least a 5080, don't get anything above 4k for gaming.
If for other stuff it may be worth it though.
In terms of controllers to use on PC, Ive got an Xbox series X controller, but are there better?
My Flydigi Vader 4 Pro was much better. There is also the 5, which just released. If you wanted more options for input, the Steam Controller looks interesting, but it is unavailable at the moment. (Has a lot of features, but the polling isn't good like the first suggestion.)
The polling is terrible on the Series X controller tbh.
125hz is unforgivable, even my keyboard does double that on Bluetooth.
thankyou
I know what it means to run 4k, I already have 2 4k gaming computers and yeah I'll also work with it
Perfect.
For me, that would make it worth it.
Unless you were planning on getting an insanely high refresh 1440p panel.
I'm actually kind of tempted by the new asus 540hz one for competitive games.
Ig I forgot what you said exactly, since you never mentioned long term 1440p.
I would get a burner from marketplace if you are fine with waiting.
So you think it's worthwhile to wait for those rgb stripe ones?
It's just that I wonder how much better the text will be with the rgb stripe
Yeah, if you are using them for work stuff that requires high resolution, the benefit of those dualmode 5K monitors is pretty nice.
(Even if the specific model you are talking about doesn’t have dual mode, being able to swap between 5k and 1440p is very nice for usability since you can't scale properly between 4k and 1440p properly for when you need headroom.)
There is one that is coming out, just not rgb stripe
Which rgb stripe monitor in specific were you eyeing?
Or is it the waiting game for a speculative product?
Yeah, waiting game
hm
I think it was somewhat announced that there will be one next year no?
No specific product
Will likely be a long time until that specific combination comes out if none are announced.
At least one year yeah
Yeah, pretty likely.
I would get something that actually exists if you need something.
Or at least something that is confirmed to be coming out.
There is the 39" 5k2k they is getting released, just not rgb stripe
Or one of those 4k oled, though I'm a bit lost at the amount of choice
Honestly color banding is a bit hard to see when you get to such high resolutions anyways.
If possible, get a look in person to demo what you would be dealing with, but at 5k it would probably be good enough.
At 4k with my LG WOLED it is already pretty good.
5k2k is 4k, but in 21:9
It's not really about color banding but text sharpness / color fringing
And yeah it's pretty good, but I'm quite sensible to it so idk
If there was a real 5k 32" dual mode 1440p that would be the best thing ever
Oh, I thought you meant a 5k dualmode monitor, and were just mentioning the native resolutions provided.
That makes more sense.
It really would be awesome.
I'm kinda sad now.
I thought you were asking around because something was just announced for what I thought you were talking about rather than the vertical and horizontal pixel resolution.
There are none no?
But yeah the 5k2k is also dual mode, just from 1080p 21:9
Asus rep reading this, please fix this issue.
Nah I'm asking because I'm getting a new job and I'll get back in Poe2 so I need a better monitor for both
If you find ultrawide useful I don't see why not.
My current job is so fake that I work like 3h per week lol so I don't care about the quality for work lmao
I just know that before this miniled 1440p I had a 27" 4k and the difference was absolutely absurd for text
And 32" 4k are clearly not as sharp
Yeah I've had a few UW, I usually don't care much about UW
You pay 3x the price to get 30% more wide... And that's it, but for work it's nice
Pretty meh deal esp with 5 games that actually support them.
I found that more often than not it was supported, but yeah the increase in price is steeeep
I guess I'll settle for a 16:9, now to see which one, so many stuff came out in a year
When I mean support, what I actually mean adjustable hud/hud that works good with 21:9 as good as 16:9 or at least close.
Is it actually 3x rn?
Depends, but it's way more expensive yeah
Like the 5k2k will be probably around 1.7k€?
yikes
Yeah lol
Annoying thing is that I don't believe there is any rgb stripe in 32"..?
one of the standard recommendations and most popular 75% keyboards
cant go wrong with it if has the features you are looking for
works
i like
u like cuz is cheap
oh i do not buy them anymore i have enough
https://www.xda-developers.com/flipper-one-official-isnt-selling-asking-help-build/ Im getting hyped on the Flipper One, what do yall think?
what do you guys use to clean your keyboards?
Dishsoap
Your mom's toothbrush, an old dusting brush (very very soft bristles that's used for makeup) and some alcohol should be enough to tackle the task
brush
lens cleaner spray on microfiber cloths
or just flip it over and give it some gentle pat
What is the best switches & why is it MX Blue
Dishwasher
@void geyser is this guy dead
Electric air duster.
Soapy water for keycaps.
Remove them first.
If any left under keycaps I use microfiber.
Rare though bc my duster is chungus.
@bitter oar sound test with the board with the topre hybrid switches lol.
Only a portion of the board has them and the others are just the stock magnectic switches that came with the board.
sounds like silent topre
what is like a good budget mic I haven't shopped for a mic in forever so I have no idea what to buy at this point
like is the shure mv6 good I hear a lot of good stuff about the sm7b but its like $400 on sale and I don't want to spend more that like $175 on a mic
YouTube special yeti blue mic; Mine has somehow lasted over 10 years
Apple EarPods mic is extremely good for $25
#audio-tech will get you something great real quick
got an amazign solution for 80 last year when i asked them

Idk
Ah, I see
It's actually X9c, lol
They really be going to town with these.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyxR9mQoZPc
are any of you buying the steam controller
i mean it’s so expensive
but i want to feel the vibes
there are plenty of good controllers that are not the steam one
While it has its perks like the touchpads if you care about them it's nothing insane and it's super expensive as you said
For instance, I would never use this kind of buttons, I also find the shape unusable for me and I hate the stick placement that is not ergo
I prefer the vader 4/5 pro
In every single way
Especially the buttons ! I love the microswitches giving this snappy feeling when pressing them
I have a reservation.
I had the 4, and used a 5 that a friend had in the states in March.
Both are very good for the price.
Idk if it was a review unit though since they are a reviewer, I imagine it would be final hardware regardless.
Starbucks meetups hit different.
They are close no?
5 is much better due to having more configurations possible.
The back paddles are also much better.
I think the dpad on the 4 is minorly better than the 5 though.
Overall 5 is super good.
The joysticks also stay the same stiffness for longer with the new ratcheting system.
It doesn't require readjustment nearly as frequently from what they said. (If at all.)
best 4k gaming monitor?
Budget?
yes please
Guys how bad is the QC for KTC monitors. I just had my 300hz HDR400 27 inch one fail. Won't get power regardless of what I do. I've only had it for just over a month.
Will say while trying to plug speakers into it recently, any part of the underside of it makes the speakers buzz and not just the actual port
Are there any hall effect/tmr controllers in the ~50 euro range that have good rumble? Particularly in fh5/fh6. From my limited experience it seems that the original xbox controller gives a lot more detailed rumble that helps me understand when I am losing grip
I am currently using the gamesir cyclone 2 (had the g7 se before iirc). They both feel SO much worse, most of the time not vibrating at all, but my xbox is starting to get stick drift
Guys I'm stupid I may have been using the wrong power supply lol. The one I have for my powered USB hub is the exact same connector as my monitor, just less actual power delivery

I'll try when I get home.
As crazy as it sounds I want the KTC one to work as the 32 inch MSI one I bought before realizing this is kinda big for my desk
Someone spam ping me when wave 2 of steam controller reservations are active for orders.
Does anyone know which kind of monitor this is?
I replaced my kepcaps (again)
The topographic patterns hurt my eyes, as I've come to realize 🙃
3 keycaps set and no new keyboards

I'm looking to get an Aula F75 someday. But not today
Coughing baby versus hydrogen bomb
4000 vs 40
figured it out: ROG Swift OLED PG42UQ
I'm a simple man. I just want a keyboard that feels and sounds good
Not allowed
this one was flawless
yeah its nice
theres alot of fakes though, so u gotta watch out
lock ur doors
:(
My cousin has the F75. It most definitely sounds fuller than my Kumara
Mine is fuller than any those
waow
i dunno i think aula kinda meh
its not bad for something thats 30 bucks
Obviously not gonna be comparable to something expensive
A budget build for 100 bucks would already be noticeably better
Lol. I'd rather use that money for something else
I've been meaning to get a racing wheel someday
Got it
our definition of good is different of course
we also approach it differently

So true lmao
is it bad that i got a g304 for 22 usd?
(g305 for the westerners)
sad I had to downgrade from my keris wired, it threw up lots of problems
I paid around $35 for my G305, seems like a good deal to me.
is the 99 grams tolerable?
my current faulty keris is about 62
It's probably the lightest mouse I own, it's never bothered me. People obsess over that way too much imo.
I think my G604 is pretty heavy in comparison, but even then it wasn't an issue.
the m331 is about similar weight, i can handle that 100%
i just want to make sure it is reliable
My Razer Orochi V2 is lighter, got that within the last few months.
But I use the G305 on my other PC.
if im not a hardcore gamer, will the double clicking issue occur?
I never had that issue with the 305, but I know that does happen with some mice. My Razer Hyperspeed somesuch, can't remember the full name had that issue, and an old G502 wired mouse years ago.
Nice, never was a fan of RGB on mice.
yeah
why bother adding rgb that gets 100% covered
The only RGB I have on my current mouse is when the battery is going dead or it blinks green when it turns on, about it.
i also think monitor rgb is a little stupid
I mean I see that being a little more useful if it's on the back of the monitor, add some bias lighting or something. As long as its a solid color.
useful until you're placing it against a non-reflective wall
Very true.
i have a whiteboard behind my monitor so maybe i can get away with it?
first!

ngl mx browns are kinda good though
this will now be #audio-tech 2
this is my cute little varmillo va87m
Disgusting I hate Mx Browns
bit i changed the keycaps to the 8008
I have a G513 Carbon Tactile but it's terrible and likes to double-press keys
this is just keeb or peripherals in general?
still on some old nacon mech keyboard I don't even know the switches of gonna get myself a keychron k6 though when this one "decides" to die
for them clacky boys, so probably
ah :(
I really like Corsair. The k70 seems to be the classic mech board, at least in recent years
well anyways at least we have a chat for keeb
me, an active member in #sometimes-audio-tech
if that had qwertz I'd get it
I need to start doing custom things. all I have is the default keycaps (not to mention no rgb 🤢)
yeah~
Me with an Chinese cheap 50 dollar mechanical keyboard that I spilled water on like 11 times and the p key is weird
Keyboard kitty 👍
ee kitty
being an European sucks can't even have keebs
Why do cats like keyboards so much
Just cheap beyerdynamics
massage
perfect ill type here with my keyboard
good question
Im looking at replacing my CoolerMaster Deveastor.. the mouse decided to croak so I had to switch to a logitech mouse
do you type on that keyboard and press on its fur and make it pur
What keyboard yall suggest I get?..
Awh 😄
how big do you want it to be?
mhm is he your kitty keyboard or do u consider him a kitmouse
I use this, but I really need something with a simple backlight
Hmm.. i guess the same size as the devaster, with the numpad
oof...
Though... smaller would be nice
thats a lot of pictures lol
What is that??
looks like a keyboard
O, cool
mhm is he your kitty keyboard or do u consider him a kitmouse
I don’t have a keyboard
The symbols on on the side
My brother recently got an RK84 and I wanted to see how my keycaps were gonna look on a keyboard so...
Not my best photography but it'll do.
@elfin pawn Surprise me 😄
Omg 😂😂😂
Uber adorable 😄
oh hell yeah a channel to dive too deep into at 1AM
@pallid trout oo cool
The keycap kit was supposed to be for my GMMK Pro coming soon which is why some keys are in the wrong positions.
I just wish I had the knowledge to build my own keyboard properly
@blazing star Same
Ah
I want to actually 3d print my keyboard
That'd be a cool project
not hard honestly, it just takes some practice
Minecraft
OH, guys, a bit offtopic.. yall wanna see the project im working on?
I still need to do a new backplate for my 3080

I’ll 3D scan it and then mill my own out of aluminum with heatsinks on the back
@nimble thicket Hey can I post a quick offtopic picture?
This. It's actually easier than building a PC, I would say.
Researching is the hard part because of how much of it is based off of preference.
Well I know what I want in it
#off-topic lol
It’s a matter of finding the right kit
^
O, thanks
np
I have 4 of these, 3 of them work, one has water damage.
Yo that legend tho
I was hoping to get gateron yellows, tkl, standard layout, keycaps from phelicia, and a backlight
@elfin pawn your dreams have come true
mhm
There, posted it
except it's keeb, not peripherals :/
lemme post my clacky boi
Ah a place for me to express the pain of being a full-size ISO person in the world of mechanical keyboards.
eh close enough
mm lube
holee mod is so good though
But also strangely relaxing.
i need to redo stabs on my Mark 65, should've done the Holee mod to begin with
he clack
lmao
Don't mind us. We sacrifice practicality for looks.
just wait until you guys start over lubing your switches and stabs
I'm really hoping the GMMK 2 gets released sometime soon so I can actually get a full-sized ISO board with hot-swap switches and a USB-C cable, which is just something you can't find anywhere.
^^^
I know which keyboard that is, do you like it? I was thinking about getting one maybe.
i have blue switches
GMMK pro would be perfect except for the short right shift key
@pallid trout I'm a developer by trade so I wouldn't lose my numpad or nav cluster for love nor money. I use them constantly. Plus I am a trackball user so I don't care about the space anyway.
Fair enough.
meanwhile me still waiting for the gmmk pro to be restocked in canada :/
It ain't even out here if you're not part of the first batch. :(
Where'd you get the carbon fiber plate and how does it sound?
emmmmm, what's that paper towel on the top right corner....
I had to go and solder a wire to make the lights stay on 😢
Oh, that's eyeglass wipes xD
yeah i like it, its a bit thicc though so i gotta have it propped up, and also i need a wrist rest. RGB is
and having bluetooth is cool too. it supports 3 devices. windows and mac support as well. id get the hotswap version just in case you dont like the switches. i recommend as a compact bluetooth keyboard
actual carbon fiber? dam
in order from top to bottom:
got my Mark 65, currently have Gazzew Boba U4s on it, aluminum plate - gonna put KAT Cyberspace on it when it arrives. Then the Space65 Cybervoyager is a build planned out for my SO, gonna have Kailh Box Navies on it and hopefully I can nab some GMK Mecha 01 extras. Finally, got my Drop CTRL with lubed Glorious Pandas, gonna put GMK Ishtar on it.
Keeb channel? WOO!
Oh, that's eyeglass wipes xD I used them earlier when I was taking my economy exam
My ideal layout would require custom building something, which maybe I'll do some day:
Space65 R2 came with a CF plate by default
O how did you make that diagram?
definetly a little odd
i've been too scared to solder it ($450 dollar thing o beauty) so i have no idea how the CF feels
Thnx!
interesting
design your own PCB!!
Holy shit $450.
UK Dvorak with some custom changes. Most notably some programmer-centric numpad additions and swapping Caps Lock for Compose, which is what I actually use it for.
I do want a smaller keyboard.. but Im scared of losing keys for Minecraft xD
@ivory ingot Yeah, I'd have to. I'd probably add a macro row as well if I was going to do it.
just hand wire it + some programmable controllers lol
75% baybeeeee
75% gang~~~
it was $350 during group buy, extras were $450
THere's 75%?
Goddamn
aftermarket people are selling 'em for $700-750
Ye
yeah?
Yea, that 2nd backspace stood out the most
wish i could build a keeb but i lack the time and money
/r/mechmarket is a cesspool lmao
Give me more keys, not less. I wish people were making modern battlecruisers.
Oh.. I thought there was like... 60?
and the aftermarket in general
mashu keycaps?
There's also 60%, IIRC.
Oh
i really like the design of 75% imo
PH100 mechanical keyboard available now from Phrygian Design. phrygiandesign.com.au
sati 75, id80, gmmk pro

are fairly decent
im a keyboard noob, how hard is it to swap switches? mine isnt hotswap
I really like 75's for gaming
desolder and resolder
shh don't say that GMK gonna C&D you lmaoooo
Ah
pretty easy
Hi
I want one of those but without the shortened right space
Hot damn that PH100 looks sexy
Yeah, I feel like it'd be useful.
welcome
yeeet
how do i tell if my keyboard is hotswapable or sautered
.> I wonder if media keys are possible
Pull a key off, if it's broken, it's soldered, heh.
usually when you buy it, hotswap will be a fairly advertised feature
alright. switch recommendations? i dont wanna use blues anymore...
Specs should say. But some will support 5 and 3-pin switches while some only 3-pin.
you want tactile, clicky, or linear?
ink black + lube + spring swap
remind me what the difference is again?
fair enough, expected it to be sautered when it was like $45
Thicc Box whites
remap baybeeee
well, a buddy of mine bought an rk61 that was supposed to be hotswappable but for his that wasnt the case

tactile will be closest to clicky, but not as loud. linears are like cherry MX reds - same feeling the entire way down
Can you remap on Linux?
@potent void I highly recommend buying a bunch of single switches to test out for yourself. Obviously not like writing on a full keyboard of them, but best way to know what you like. Mechbox in the UK have a great range of single switches you can buy for testing.
ones is clicky ones tactile and the other is linear?
Probably. Not sure about QMK/VIA support on Linux.
Hotswap board is definitely the beginning of the path to owning $500 in assorted keyboard parts
There's a huge tester with like 50+ switches on it somewhere.
linear or tactile then. maybe tactile
I did that and learned that I hate Zealio tactile switches, they feel like rubber domes for me.
this lmao
i think you meant to reply to someone else lol
my b
I'm planning a build with Box Navies when I get a board to put them in.
well, at the very least it's sorta better than a drug addiction
Halo Clear gang
For now I'm running a very old WASD board that is starting to show it's age.
i shall consider this
Was that meant for me?
I wanted clear Durock T1's but I found out Halo Clears were actually less expensive in Canada at the time lmao
Yea, Not a fan of Zeal's offerings either, somehow ended up liking modded cherry browns though? >.<
ye
Ah ok
some of the nicer tactiles IMO are
Gazzew Boba U4Ts
U4s if you want silent
Holy Bobas (Stem from a Halo Clear or Halo True + housing of a Boba U4T or U4)
Glorious Panda
Don't listen to Glarses fans.
Nothing's wrong with liking Cherry Browns.
@worn storm Don't feel bad for liking what you like. People getting all elitist about browns are weird. Key feel is a really personal thing.
Lol, Typing on a WASD v1 that was my "I don't like this switch, so its my spare board"
Hmmm... what 75% keyboard should I get guys?
some people also like Zeal Zealios, but they're ridiculously priced, 1.2 per switch
Or should I build one from scratch?
i recognize the panda. halo clear sort of. alright ill research them a bit
GMMK Pro?
Then again that's $170 USD barebones so
thanks
YMDKey has a decent 75% (built one for a friend), just make sure you're getting the hotswap PCB
There's also the RK84 that my brother got.
i also got Halo Clears on my CTRL originally - really like them too
Uh.. is there one like.. in the $60 range?
Current plan is GMMK Pro with pandas.... and an el cheapo $30 vortex thicc PBT set
I'm also a fan of SA profile. I know a lot of people hate the height but it works for me.
Probably not. :(
Awh, fiddle sticks
yeah these are literally clear
I LOVE the sounds that profile tends to make but I don't like the height.
gmmk pro is pretty neat
Not sure how I fell in love with OEM profile, but here we are
some people have said the Halo Trues are kinda mushy compared to the Clears
RK84 is your best bet. IIRC they're like... $70 USD?
i use gateron blues. they feel both mushy and tactile at the same time and its weird
@pallid trout Yeah, and the sound is all from the height, so DSS doesn't solve that one.
:(
e_e I wish it wasn't white tho...
Kind of surprised there aren't more thick PBT sets out there besides the old vortex ones, very satisfying typing sound

That's what getting your own keycaps is all about baybeeee
But I also thought it comes in black.

if I ever end up working in a shared space again, I'll probably get some DSS caps and some Box Royals because SA profile + Box Navy are not quiet.
momo is the first moderator in the keyboard chat
yo, is that the YMDK 75%?
Nope
It's a 60%
i'm blind lul
MX Zilent, maybe?
It's the Catarina from drop
<_> I dont see a black version

you gotta try the Gazzew Boba U4s, they're silent
and way cheaper than zilents
lemme pull up my sound test
Say swear
Barrington would be here soon, he's a keeb nerd too
ill look forward to seeing him
I do not want to Frankenstein switches lmao
@pallid trout If they are anything like the Zealios I tried, definitely not. Those things were totally the opposite of what I like feel wise. I like sharp tactility and those things feel like typing on bubble wrap.
Kind of surprised we didn't have a keeb channel sooner?
Also LTT branded keycaps
they're not frankensteined at all, these are stock
I bought a secondhand corsair K70, but I didn't realise it wasn't RGB. So now I have a red LED K70 I don't need.
Okay.... I'd buy that >.<
The top row is each channel icon
U4s' tactile bump is more like a D while Zilents' bump is more like a d, if that makes sense
linusface escape key
i can see the escape key as the ltt logo
Zilents have a bit of pretravel
nvm this is better
Never heard of that, but it'd likely be a long way away so I'd have to see what switches were around then. For now, the click bars give the best tactile feeling, so while I can be noisy I'll take them over any tactile switch.
@sarah_butt we want keycaps
LTT logo windows keys?
GMK Tech Tips when???
WAN show is the FN key
Mrs. Butt is not here sadly
This, but in PBT
do a RAMA of the logo
Should replace F key with a coffin.
@ivory ingot
Any recommendations for a tactile switch with a clear (not smokey!) housing?
Boba U4Ts come with a clear housing iirc, they're just a bit harder to find
box browns?
I mean I just recommended it today in staff chat :)
jk, they don't appear to come with clear housings
uuuuuhhhhhh, i'm not 100% sure ngl. i know the silent U4s can be had with clear housings
Clear in what way? Box Royals have a clear top half and clear to a top LED, but the bottom half is white plastic except where the LED would be.
Cat in a Box has been wanting a peripheral chat for a while, well now we have the closest thing :)
Clea top half
Yea, keebs are much more prone to discussion than other peripherals because of all the customization aspects compared to "should i buy this mouse or that mouse"
IIRC box switches wobble a lot when bottomed out but correct me if I'm wrong.
Ashkeebs restocks their U4s periodically, both the clear top and milky top
This.
What's the bump like?
What ailia said, and also the fact that the peripheral channel was supposed to #build-a-pc but people use it like tech-chat3
Yeah, the top half is clear on Royals.
pretty immediate and one of the biggest bumps i've ever felt @pallid trout
Oh, what's the cheapest 75% I can grab?..
They don't seem notably more wobbly at bottom than most of the cherry switches I own, but some of the speciality switches out there do have better tolerances
Ngl I forgot we had that
Would a budget of $130 open up more options?
I see.
I should've gotten the big switch tester lol
Kinda regret jumping the gun on the Halo Clears but ah well. I still like how they feel. For now. I just need to put them on a keyboard.
yeah, you could pick up a YMDK 84 for $72.99
Personally the hills I choose to die on are MX browns and Box Reds. Not interesting switches but they work for me. GMMK Pro with pandas should be interesting but they might end up in the parts box like so many others that came before them
Yeah, comparison is by far the best way, although individual switches can't tell you what it would feel like to type on a full board, of courser.
honestly i can't wait until more people are vaccinated so i can go to keyboard meets
Think my parts box is up to ~2300 switches now? Keep buying full boards of stuff I end up not liking
bruh
Where can I grab that at?
you got any o them tangerines?
I've got one on my switch tester, thats it
oops i lied, it's gonna be closer to 80ish for the hotswap version.
get the case only and pick this one up too: https://ymdkey.com/collections/75-84-96-keyboard-diy/products/ymdk-ymd75v3-qmk-hot-swap-hot-swappable-kailh-socket-84-pcb-fully-programmable-support-ansi-iso-interchange-ymd75-v2
There's 80% keyboards?
That's 75%
pretty sure keyboards come in 10s
damn, i kinda highkey want to try tangies. i'm more a tactile kinda guy but tangerines look so cute that i want to do a build around them
Oh
Theres tons of form factors beyond the full size and TKL mainstream sizes
I'm conflicted. On the one hand, I love my Corsair K70R, and I will likely never have a reason to replace it because it's indestructible lol. On the other hand, they make keyboards that are every bit as indestructible, but have RGB...
40% lmao
@worn storm I see
this goes into detail about the different sizes
Today we're going to compare the different mechanical keyboard sizes and form factors, which should help beginners recognise what's actually available on the market.

Its definetly smooth, but feels.... oddly nonlinear for a linear switch?
inb4 he goes rogue and gets an ortho
that sounds right up my alley

no, that selected variant comes with the PCB, but that one will have to be soldered
you'll want to select the "Only case CNC Feet" kit
Not sure WHY I built a 2%, but it seemed like a good idea at the time?
could be good for osu?
Pretty sure thats what the kit was for, ended up using it for a push to talk button for a while
Ooh..
I have an osu keyboard
welcome to osu!~

weird keyboard. very weird keyboard... Endgame?... not endgame
a wire and keys... a wife and kids... I thought that was funny
I think the AKE0CTF whatever it's called will be the weirdest keyboard in my collection for a long time

endgame
the keyboard is called the YMD75, the 75 is referring to the 75%
hey these are keychron keys, nice
Yeah. but the case you linked earlier is 84
84keys as well
OH
Always fun mixing switch parts that were left over from doing an unrelated mod and making horrible switches to try
YMDKey doesn't do the greatest job of being clear with product names...
Or with the aluminium plate?
o fuk
is a stream deck worth getting just to have as some basic macro keys or should i get like an actual pad?
D:
the stock YMDK stabs kinda suck also
stabs?
stabilizers im gussing
stabilizers
yup
the things that distribute force on larger keycaps evenly
like on your shift, backspace, enter, and spacebars
👀
If you just want basic macros, streamdeck is a bit overkill
for screw-in stabs (the YMD75 uses screw-in stabs) i've generally heard Durock V2s are like, the best. C3equalz stabs are also pretty good as well
just for future reference, i think for plate-mount stabs, Everglide and Durock are also good
and genuine Cherry as well
i wrote up a little thing on stuff you'd need for a keyboard awhile back
shit you need for a custom keyboard build
- plate (you choose with PCB, impacts how the keyboard feels <brass - poly carb - aluminum - carbon fiber>)
more info: https://keyboard.university/200-courses/plate-materials-sizes
keyboard case
case foam (sometimes optional) - goes in between PCB and case. can dampen noise. can be as exotic as a precut thing of foam to literally just foam you buy from the store
cable (usually can just be a random USB cable but if you wanna go all out you can either make a custom cable or buy one)
switches
- O-rings (optional) - dampen switch noise
- lube (optional) - makes presses smoooooooooOOOOoooOOOooth
- lube station (optional) to make the process of lubing easier (can be 3d printed)
- stem grabber (optional) (can be 3d printed) to make the removal of switch stem and application of lube easier
- brush to apply lube
- switch films (optional) - reduces switch stem wobble (do your keys ever rotate a bit or wiggle when you push down on them not in the center? films reduce this)
stabilizers - these are the metal things that help keep any keys that are bigger than a normal sized key stable (you'll need some for your shift key, enter key, backspace key, and spacebar. they are usually sold in packs good for one keyboard)
keycaps - uhh these are pretty self explanatory you don't wanna keep pushing down some poky stems right?```
Ah, thanks

This edition of M0LLY features a polycarbonate case with CNC mirror-polished brass parts, available in three finishes: Dark Nickel PVD 24k Gold PVD Silver PVD ℹ️ This is a keyboard kit. this one hits different
They had some issues with C^3 switches and the manufacturer took blame and i think people with the batch issues were refunded
I bought 75 of these for the build im doing
Dragon Fruit switches are a tactile switch with a 63.5g spring, featuring a translucent pink housing and snow white stem. These switches are sold in packs of 25 switches. 1 unit = 25 switches. You can buy a maximum of 8 units (i.e. 200 switches). Tactile switch – pressing a DF switch has a 'bump' feeling. The bump is s
Meanwhile:
git yourself building then
Hell no, that has contactless linears
Smoothest switches on the planet, if there were contactless switch custom keyboards then I would’ve bought one ages ago
ill probably just get a macro pad then
there's also this:

welcome to the "I paid too much to TKC and got fucked over" support group thread. I'll go first.

trying to find the reddit thread as well
also apparently the dragon fruits are kinda meh
i think a bunch of stem wobble and some other issues?
haven't tried them personally though
i mean rather than going to twitter to complain just contact the company
check out the reddit thread - someone had similar color matching issues and apparently they're supposed to have different coloring
then again, i've only bought C3Equalz stab wire from TKC, so i have no personal experience with their QC issues
ooh, good timing; been planning out a build with the GMMK Pro and i'm just waiting on that reservation to be fulfilled
been getting advice from a friend; picked out Durock T1s for it
me rushing to the new ltt discord channel to post my model M

It’s okay the keyboard makes up for it
i hope so, can’t believe i managed to get a good deal on one and still miss out on the mousepad
Keyboard with computer inside
Here's a sound demo of my tofu65 keyboard. I've been working on tuning it for months and I think it's 99% the best tofu65 you have ever heard. The specs are in the video. Soon, a set of Original Aspiration JWK switches are going to be lubed, filmed and installed into this keeb, which will hopefully sound even better than the Gat Ink's! Let me kn...
coming soon...
Theyre cute at that size for sure, haven't managed to keep a 60 in front of me for more than a few hours before I was reaching for a 75 or TKL though
I like the MacBook butterfly keyboard personally.
got that keycap last week after waiting months
crappy pic but it looks so much better in person
@ivory ingot Uh.. could you DM me the keyboard information?
Cool
bro clean it
prolly cleaner than my keeb
You don't want to see the rest of my room and then or desk or PC itself
Hey guys, what tactile keyswitch should I get?
Uh.. I have no idea what I want ._.
Because uh.. I've only ever used a membrane keyboard 😅
And there's that one instance of me using this old IBM keyboard
Are you buying a pre-built kb?
Cool! That's alright
So like.. im mainly looking for something to replace my coolermaster
Lot of people will try to dog on you that you want tactile, but that's totally cool
Something that's 75%
Dang fr? I actually just replaced a cooler master kb of mine with a custom one
Yeah, my mouse actually died a week ago
Like.. I want something that's 75% with rgb 😄
I think your best bet for switches is just to search up a bunch and see what you like
If I had to recommend a starting place
maybe Zealios and U4 Boba switches would be a nice place to start
since when has this channel been a thing?
@ivory ingot suggests I could go for a prebuilt since im new
Like.. the NK65 Entry Edition and a Keychron
Well it's really up to what you want and how much effort you want to put in
i'd just go with the keychron tbqh, it'd be a lot more cost effective
God damn NK is literally all gone
the stabs suck, so you could just pick up Durock plate mount stabs, do the holee mod to them and be done
Like, I love the feel and weight of an alu case, but it's totally understandable if you dont want to pay 4x as much as opposed to plastic
I have a membrane Corsair K55 keyboard and its decent anyone object
kk
A prebuilt that supports hotswap would be the easiest/safest bet for oyu
you
Do you live in the US?
Yeah
e_e the hotswappable keyboard from keychron is out of stock
84 keys is the 75% keyboards right?
You can customize it to come without switches/keycaps^
O cool
I have a gk61, not really a fan of it, not sure if this a wide spread thing with gk61 but it will keep disconnecting on its own and it would take a while to work again cause itll say usb malfunction or whatever.
oof
tbh though, I think it would be a lot better if you just purely bought a prebuilt
The stabs/switch selection on prebuilts usually suck, but I think you should discover a little bit more of what you like before you commit
It should be fine, just keep it mind that not all keycap profiles are equal, it may sound different, it might feel weird to type on, and that would take a super long time
wait all of them?
How would you print the legends though...
I could like.. embed the legends into the caps
i think 20-40 bucks on a budget keycap set would be cheaper for the 3d printer material lol
cheaper than*
xD Alrighty
I'd recommend scouring the webs a little more though
I think you still seem unsure of what you like
I have no idea what I want xD
Haha, that's alright
I guess like.. something that feels a bit more like that IBM keyboard I had for a bit
I didn't even know I was going to build my own, until I found a local small business that was selling stuff for cheap
At one point I was messing around with this ComputAid computer my mom had lying around and I was getting that booted up and seeing what worked
It came with this big keyboard
The keys were clicky, but felt smooth
Did it have windows keys?
Uh...
Might be a model M but IDK
Just look up a bunch of sound tests and I think you'll be hooked
I used to like tactiles a lot

damn those are some yellow keys
It's older than me xD
lol
jeez
And my mom's 64 xD
Yeah, just go around YT and see what you like the sound
and see what you like*
Then decide if that sound is worth the extra $$$
Ah yeah, im playing with the keys on the emerson
I definitely like the way it feels
I would plug it into my computer.. but I don't have an adapter for it xD
Mhmm, you could just buy a USB-A to PS2 adapter
Remove a keycap
I don't have a keycap remover 😦
OH
I think I found an adapter xD
The motherboard on my desktop has one of them small round ports
I think for PS2
Yep
But the keyboard has a much larger hole
I think that is an AT connector
PS2 is 6 pin
that only has 5....
I think it's called a 5pin DIN
It should automatically pick it up
BUt I think you need one of these
I got one of them
But it's smaller
Oh, dont i need to restart the computer for PS/2??
OOP I forgot this thing doesn't have a Windows key LOL
@raw turret Restarting the machine worked
Pog

me over here with my gk61 with reds and foam in the back
im gonna get a layout like this
what good keyboards (and mouses if you can) are there for under £40
Reddragon is a good budget option if you want a mechanical keyboard
Red dragon k552 for 35 usd or Motospeed ck61 for 45 usd
The motospeed has detachable cable and is 60%
The re dragon k552 was actually my first keyboard
Yeah they're both great
Mhmm okay
Have you decided on switches?
I mean that old keyboard will save you some money lol
thats a 65% innit?
That's a tkl
^^
Wtf
Rk61
Or blitz wolf kb1
I think
yea that's a 65% i'm pretttyyyy sure
65% as in the layout of the keyboard @loud rose
WOW new channel
ye
Iz this a new chat or am i blind?
yea
Yea its new or yea im blind?
New channel, sorry
Oh ok
You can with any mechanical keyboard but if it isn't hotswappable (which the Blackwidow Chroma isn't), you have to desolder and resolder your own switches.
Yeah.
How’s it looking boys 😏
You forgot half your keys man
Oh you’re right..
np ;D
Thank you so much
Yeah I’m just waiting on the PCB to get here aswell as figure out what switches I want
Rn it has an invisible PCB
;o
The switches that are in it are my broken mx browns
what are the best switches?
The ones that fit your preferences.
silent but you feel the click and theyre fast
i want to build a full sized keyboard
where can i get that
gmmk is good for fullzize
personaly i use khail box white they are pretty good clicky switches way better then blue clones
only reason i have a keyboard with blue clones was i couldn't live on a membrane keyboard after my g910 broke and i had ordered my gmmk but thing whent out of stock
yeah that is why i recommend gmmk for full size it's the cheapest option
also it's hotswap
there are cheaper options if you look at hexgears for hotswap full size. also but it depends if you want iso or ansi layout. hexgears is only ansi, gmmk is iso and ansi
it's hotswap as long as you don't break the pcb your fine
the keycaps sold by gmmk are pretty good but you can always upgrade them later on and you can try different switches whenever you want to etc
they dont have wireless?
sadly no also the fullsize has an attached cable also sadly compared to the other options
yeah but still it's a thing to know
yeah
i guess the switches you want are tactile ones right with a low actuation force
these are like gunshots every key I push lmao
for actuation force you want ones that are only 1.1mm or 1.8mm
I think it's biased to make a keyboard channel and say it's only for clacky people
1.1 is quicker action which is good for gaming there are also switches with 1.4 but it depends
I'm gonna buy a barebone one so i can buy any switch and cap i want
local shop doesnt have a kit
idk whats going on but I love my razer blackwidow elite
yeah those are really good but im done with razer keyboard
want something new
I wanna make a keyboard that uses piezoelectric igniters for switches ;(
I think the challenge would mostly being making it safe for the usb hardware
ah yeah i would look at khail speed copper or khail pro purple for gaming depends on the actuation force you want
pro puple is a bit more actuation
i have these now Feel: Tactile and Clicky
Actuation Force: 50 G
Travel Distance: 4.0 mm
Actuation point: 1.9 mm
Actuation vs Reset Point: 0.4 mm
is 800 volts within the tolerances for USB?
I'm using a random re-branded Chinese keyboard with kailh blue switches
the pro purple is 50g 1.7mm actuation tactile
and I hate it
are they loud or silent
so there is no click but there is a bump
wait what
there is a difference there are linear, tactile and clicky switches
they have a bump but not a click tactile
how do you call switches like razer green but silent
razer green is a clicky switch if you don't want the click you go to tactile they aren't silent but they don't have a loud click
Im gonna listen to some sound tests when i get home
