brave night
# past vortex

Lower is better i Assume? Didn’t look too deep into it soz šŸ˜…

#

My ULX still holds up then - with mechanical switches too 🤭

bitter oar
# past vortex

you know you can hold the mouse button of a standard mechanical or optical in travel just before you actuate it (which would give you bit better response) or get switches with very low actuation point

#

some mouses do allow you to easily swap switches like screwless

#

but ofc it’s much more comfortable to just control the actuation point in a properietary software

#

same w haptic feedback

crisp patrol
#

lower mechanical latency because there's as little pretravel as possible

bitter oar
#

pretravel is the movement when you press on your mouse button/shell and it doesn’t immediately touch and push your switch

#

it’s generally something you don’t want and what cheaper, older mice have

#

the x2 superstrike has it on side buttons

#

as iirc they just reused older designs

#

unsure about post travel… depending on who you ask it can be either after the switch actuates or after the switch finished traveling (bottoms out) but the surrounding materials still move so it lets you push the button further when the switch cannot go anymore

#

i’d say the intended switch travel is well the travel and any unintended like when it gets implemented on a mice is pre-travel and post-travel

#

like the button or shell is too loose from the switch
for pre-travel it’d be bendy structure at bottom out

bitter oar
# magic wolf Ah the "rage buffer"

yeah pretravel is annoying on main buttons it a lot of the time comes also with the forms of grinding but mainly extra noise and clicking when you lightly tap on your mouse, if pretravel is really high then it’s going to be also distracting when just pressing your button
those mices also tend to come with non uniform click consistency so your entire mouse clicks might come up as very cheap feeling and distracting

magic wolf
#

Thanks for confirming I'm not just crazy

bitter oar
#

tiny defects especially on that small scale are audible

#

switch slack can also determine the end resulting sound and feel as when the switch is extended (not pressed) it usually has the most amount of slack (the tip being angled a little)

#

combined with a shell mechanism that doesn’t press exactly vertically on the tip of the switch and the tip moves into place can indeed cause even more noise/feel

magic wolf
#

Huano brown yellow dot

#

The kailh mutes are so mid

bitter oar
#

i’ve had asus tuf m3 the first unit i had was pretty good almost nonexistent grind and pre travel

#

on the second there was noticable grind in the right button and pretravel

magic wolf
#

It's the goddamn leaf springs

bitter oar

bitter oar
magic wolf
#

Superstrike and the Chinese ripoffs will save us

#

Soon brother

bitter oar
#

but other huano dots

magic wolf
bitter oar
#

blue shell pink dots are whar i like for tactility

#

ttc gold were excessive for me

#

pretty sure both are outdated now

#

asus had some kailh red i liked those on the tuf m3

#

i mean i generally mention the m3 so much bc it was $12

#

the recent tuf mices are sort of lame

magic wolf
#

Idk what happened. First it was some strange optical mouse switch movement

But they still used leaf springs for tactile feel lmfao

#

And now we got HE mouse edition

bitter oar
#

logitech is not the first one to have custom actuation point on the market but they are the first to do on mass scale + the haptic feedback

#

my brain forgor what was the third thing

#

anyways yh i’m also surprised they went ahead with such original product

#

a bit sad it’s boutta to be copied 999 times

#

but if i buy one it’s going to be a clone

#

the x2 is front heavy and it has the same meh side buttons

bitter oar
#

i’m not much of a side button user but i won’t pay $150+ for lame side buttons

bitter oar
magic wolf
#

I'm just hyped we have a good silent mouse for once

bitter oar
magic wolf
#

I bet it feels just like gesture controls using a kinect

bitter oar
#

hey if you’re looking for an endgame mouse that might be it in few decades

magic wolf
#

Wasn't there a video on the meta glasses that used muscle tension detecting band as an input device

bitter oar
#

or maybe just a sensor tracking your hand movement

#

that sits on your table

magic wolf
#

Trackpad is a macos workflow

#

Right click does too much to deal with that

bitter oar
#

put your hands like you’d hold your mice without the mice in hand may be the best competitive peripheral
anyways enough daydreaming for me xd

only strenght of topre is it’s unique travel forces, but you can make a membrane sound and feel like a topre if you manage the post travel or late travel

#

the reason why topre feels like topre is that they managed to make the post travel not mushy (the bottom out doesn’t gradually increase but instantly) and it’s less tactile than majority of membrane kbs

bitter oar

that’s what you feel

tardy saddle
# mystic rover Which would be the perfect key switch can someone help??

Given the personal, tactile nature of computer peripherals there is no "perfect" keyswitch. There are only keyswitches that meet your specific needs or preferences. If you're just getting started with mechanical keyboards, I recommend seeing of any electronics shops near you have models on display that you can go feel with your hands.

#

If there aren't any close by, see if friends might let you fondle their keyboards... with consent, of course! 🤣 Otherwise, the only other thing you can do is a lot of reading online to see what types of switches are out there, then make an educated purchase from a retailer with a good return policy.
Cherry is no longer the "only" option out there, of course, but this is a great place to begin understanding different keyswitch types. https://www.daskeyboard.com/blog/cherry-mx-switches/

Cherry MX switches are the most popular switches for mechanical keyboards. They deliver the precision performance, comfort, and reliability.

mystic rover
#

Well thanks for the information

tardy saddle
# mystic rover Was like cherry the only brand ??

Cherry MX was one of the main (and sometimes only, depending on where you live) in the pre-2015(?) days of mechanical keyboards. Then the market exploded with competitors, some of which are copy-cat clones of each other, albeit with dubious quality levels.

#

I'm happy to answer basic questions about mechanical keyboards, but I'm not the right person to ask about other brands. Luckily, there are lots of people here who I'm sure would be happy to answer brand specific questions.

theres really intense opinions on QD-OLED and WOLED

  • (some say QD has way better colors)
  • (some complain about text fringing on QD or eyestrain, same on WOLED with eye strain though)
  • (some say the glossy QD screens just suck)
and so on, i was wondering if anyone here could actually tell me which is better for what usecase and whats true or not? im looking at a 380 QD-oled and 490 WOLED rn

If you were already going to play RE Requiem and buy it, you can kinda 'cut' the price of the monitor partially
It's a solid monitor from the third party reviews available and the price is good (it's been at around $140~~ range before, but you can pretend it's a $20 copy of RE Requiem)

Trying to get a keyboard and I think I've figured out all my needs/preferences. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

#

(message got deleted by the bot, let me rephrase and resend)

#

TKL (80%) and separate numpad. Additional keys for macros are a positive but not necessarily required. Also might be interested in a configurable knob. These don't need to match, but I'd like them to at least have similar styling if possible.

Electronics:
If there's RGB, an option to turn it off or just be solid white

QMK/VIA compatibility

Wired is preferred. It can have wireless functionality, but functioning when wired is a Must.

#

Shell:
Definitely not low profile
Probably metal case, but willing to use plastic
Strong preference for the case to at least cover the bottom of the switches.
My ideal color would be in the range of pastel purples or blues, but it's function is more important than aesthetics. Haven't really been a fan of the print detailing that I've seen on the shell itself, but I can be swayed.

Keyswitches and Keycaps:
Reasonably quiet, will be using at work in an office. I think most types of keys should be fine, but I don't want to be a jerk about it.

Mainly tactile keys, mostly light press with slightly heavier on side buttons (enter, shift, Alt, etc) so I don't misclick accidentally

Definitely not side print for the keycals, other than that no strong preference as far as material/color atm. Especially since I can easily swap these out with prettier ones later.

Extra:
More involved modding may be considered in the future, but I don't feel confident enough to do that on my first mechanical keyboard. For now, I only want to have to hotswap keys and key caps from whatever I end up buying. I could work from a barebones kit, but from my understanding fully assembled ones are more cost-effective.

#

I found the Rainy75 which seems to meet all the criteria that I wouldn't be able to change after the fact, but it only seems to come with linear switches.

worldly garden

spare iris
#

I was considering the Keychron Q3 and Q0 max, so let's combine their prices and say $360.

#

As an absolute max.

#

Obviously diminishing returns and all that given this is my first mechanical keyboard, but still.

#

Note, if it were that much I would space this out across multiple purchases. At once I probably wouldn't be able to spend more than half that.

These two look like a good split of switches given that I wanted some to be more force than others. Are the different stems going to cause compatibility issues for the keycaps, or will everything that work on Lime also work on u4?

worldly garden

most stems in the market shares the same design. their only difference is their color and their material

#

i think for your kit u would like smth like this

What are the options for the different pcb types? Obviously not getting the soldered one if I want to be able to hotswap keys, but idk the difference between the two kinds.

Edit: Nevermind, read the notes underneath and they explain it.

If I get that, then all that's left to find would be the keycaps for the numpad, since the Stars21 is Barebones. I'll look around and see what I can find, then I can double-check what I want and make the purchase tomorrow.

For the Evo 80 color, I'm more partial to the Tyrian purple, and a black Stars21 numpad. So I'll be looking for keycaps that complement those.

Pretty much what you recommended. Evo80, Stars21, 60 of each of the switches, and the Fairy keycaps (both for the main keyboard and numpad). I'll get the Amethyst in a couple of weeks, but that one wasn't as low stock so it was less of a priority.

Hi, I’m looking for some help to find a keyboard. My list of requirements are as follows.

Volume knob built into the keyboard

Ideally aluminum some plastic is OK for the shell

If it has a dongle, I would like to have a large battery life if it’s only wired that’s OK

75 to 100% is the size range

Ideally cream colored or like an off-white

Thank you for your help in advance

past crater
#

Again, left knob isnt a requirement but a priority

#

Macro keys are a requirement though

#

Ideally it should have the option for silent switches

daring shard
#

There’s not any good keyboards with a volume knob

#

It’d just be better to get a separate macro pad thing

#

irok mg75 pro is the best you can get a $100, it doesn’t have a volume knob or silent switches

#

Very very few keyboards have silent hall effect switches

#

And same with macro keys

#

You’re just asking too much respectfully

#

Good keyboards focus more on actually making a good product than putting a volume knob on the keeb
