i'm always going to recommend either staebies or tx ap stabilizers

use 205g0 on the stem housing, use either dielectric grease or xht-bdz on the wires. dielectric is easy to apply and easy to clean up, but xht-bdz is a tad thicker viscosity and stays in place better (but still lubricates nicely) but it's very messy

Hey guys, what can one do about stem wobble. I got some Gateron black silent ink v2s and my keycaps just wobble a lot more than on my kailh switches which have these, “catches” around the stem

I haven’t lubed them yet but plan to very soon. But I doubt that has anything to do with it

For more context I’m using SA profile keycaps so the height may be a factor too

To add, on the switch stem itself, it has very minimal almost no wobble against the upper housing, my kailh switch stems wobble more. So I don’t think this is something I fix with films

Wobble is influenced by two things, housing tightness and stem to housing tolerances. A loose housing will increase wobble as the housing can wiggle about itself between the two parts because the clamping mechanism is not tight enough. Adding switch films can increase this tightness and stop the housing from wiggling around. There isn't anything you can do about any wobble that exists after that, but using caps that are taller with longer stems makes the wobble worse because of the length of the stem on the cap. Using a shorter profile cap reduces the wobble feel.

That being said, you don't want to get rid of the wobble completely, because then tolerances may be too tight and cause the switch to not operate properly or feel sluggish.

You also want a bit of wobble so the switch operates smoothly when you press the cap down at an off angle and not straight down.

Gateron's tend to benefit from switch films. I use Deskey films in my Ink Black v2 linears and they feel great

NK_ creams, for example, are so tight even after opening them that they don't need films. They have no housing wobble at all.

Deskey films, well that made it real easy. Just curious are you using plate mount and if so what material is your plate. Did you notice the black ink v2 takes a bit more force to mount properly?

Assuming the only difference between our switches is mine having rubber on the sliders

In my two main keebs, I use FR4 plates in both of them. Since they are also both hotswap pcb's, the first insert is always the one that requires the most force, but after that they tend to go in easy. I did find that with a POM/PC plate, Black Ink v2's did seem to be a little loose and I could easily pull them out with a cap, but since switching to FR4 I haven't had a switch come out when pulling caps off yet. However, I have switched both keebs from Ink Black v2's to WS OA switches for the aesthetics and slightly heavier spring weight, plus housing material which makes a nicer thock than v2's

Ah, they work real easy after the first pop then, good. At first they would like “half latch” and I had to put pressure on the side that diddnt pop in and figured that was a good sign anyway.

never felt the need to straighten c3 wires

surface finish of them is ideal, they are straight ootb and thickness is perfect for in spec stabs to sit tight

if you source your stab parts right you can buy like 3-5 sets of stabs for one set of TX or staebis and get arguably the same or even better results

I put in a minimum amount of effort (clipping + lubing with a syringe of xht bdz post install, very rarely also a 205g0 with a brush post install if they scratch)
and they are perfect every time

only when i paired them with long pole switches (when the switch stem didn’t go all the way into it’s housing)
