Hey everyone, if I'm looking to get or build a new keyboard, where's a good place to start researching? Have a Hexgears X-1 I got used from a friend for $50

The keyboard is good but I want to get something a bit quieter for work/gaming that's still mechanical

I also have access to a 3D printer so I can print stuff like keycaps & whatnot if that helps

i also own a 3d printer (2 actually) and speaking from experience, don't try to print keycaps. they fly off the build plate, brims and rafts help but waste so much and when you actually put them on the bit that connects to the switch (stem bit or whatever) snaps after minimal use. I know what I'm doing wholst 3d printing so it's not like I'm making a mistake, its just not fit for most printers unless they have a really accurate XY tolerance

and you can get keycaps for like $20 or just use your old ones

Basically worthless to do with any Kailh BOX switch (which are most of the good clickies) You see, part of the Kailh BOX switch design is that it’s entire purpose for the stem and housing design is to eject dust over time. (However it also ejects lube) So all of those hours that you will spend lubing will basically be put to waste in a few weeks/months
