To clarify, high pitch = hurts your ear.
how does that make sense, there is foam there wasnt there before, there is less space, less air, more resistance.
it should muffle.
not POP
pop is the bottomout being softened by the foam
it’s being muffled by the foam yes that’s why it’s a pop and not a standard bottomout
gastrail, this is about case foam, not the PE foam mod on the PCB
I’m aware
Cool.
best thing to do is experiment
yes. I have caught the custom keyboard bug.
foam affects different cases differently, most you’re getting from people who haven’t tried it themselves are generalized results
I see.
Yes. In my experience, all the cases with alu plate and shell were more pingy and hollow-sounding.
However, it is solved by adding mass to the board. brass weights, etc.
Also helped by the gasket mount design and the force break mod, which prevent vibration (and acoustic) energy transmission to the reverb chamber of a case.
gasket mount, yea. Like shock absorbers for a car at a much lower scale.
point of gasket mount is to isolate sound ye
forcebreak works by eliminating vibrations between top and bottom case, doesn’t work on one part cases (like the bakeneko)
interesting
Ah. TIL. Just mentioning it for metal cases in general.
well, putting a lot of faith in my switches then
Haimu heartbeats are fire
You haven't gone wrong.
they won’t be stopped being produced anytime soon afaik
even if they were, haimu makes similar/equal switches that they sell on geon
Haimu HG switches, same mechanism for dampening (holes in bottom housing and flex cuts on stem?)
been a while since I’ve used silents, especially heartbeats
can you show me what a "stuffed" keycap should it come to that?
You're spot-on, gastrail.
you really don’t need to do that
if you wanted another measure you could oring the keycaps, stuffing your keycaps is just overkill
Just sharing the Keychron V1 I'm daily driving RN
shit Ill just grab the membrane
ah another thing for the bakeneko, what weight did you pick?
Sure is cheaper and a foolproof way to get an input device.
silicone weight flash finish
keyboards r overpriced
ah heads up, the area around the blocker will feel stiff/higher pitched because the blocker isn’t floating
so the area around the blocker is a bit uneven compared to the rest of the board
I'd rather input myself lobotomized if I had to give up mechanical typing
If you bought the zinc weight I would suggest putting polyfil in the case to reduce some of the ping in the case it creates
the weights on the bakeneko are honestly kinda both bad choices
ive made note of this, but also, not quite, fully comprehending
the silicone weight mutes an inherently high pitched board
and the zinc weight makes ping and just sounds weird
should’ve made it no weight and made the blocker float
I kinda just bought it upon recommendation, I spent days navigating. Group buys and back-order listings.
I was about to buy a Drop Alt before I came here
yeah well so is nicotine and you cant see them stopping any time soon
that is one needlessly expensive recommendation.
I specifically asked for aluminum
I knew what I was getting into
ive had plastic cases all my life
Ahuh
I don’t know which I prefer
my current favorite board is plastic
but the one before that one is aluminum
And I have another coming which is plastic
metal = pullin out the hefty boy at work with the thonk
metal = typey boi not sliding around cause 2 deskmats is tough enough to manage
heavy boi that doesnt need penny "mod" for how broke I am now its my most successful savings account
yes the bottom of my keyboard is full of pennies, sue me
I mean I know a couple people who wish their aluminum keyboards had tungsten weight because they’re not heavy enough
or some other absurd method to make them more heavy
I saw a concrete base on youtube today...
I looked at that and thought, how far is too far, am I already too far?
I mean, his keyboard is concrete, but...I got pennies in mine
yikes
budget scene wild ‼️
I’d honestly rather talk to people on forums than watch yt
a lot easier to get opinions that aren’t for content
haven’t seen a single bad opinion on a board from any of the big YouTubers
just praise and more praise for budget gasket mount board #7837392
there’s a general consensus though
nobody in the majority will tell you to buy a gmmk pro in 2023
eh, on what can be objective sure, thats what I bother people here in this chat for.
I have notes of objective tips 2 pages full in here
and thats cool. But im not gonna ask what keycaps make muh Razur thocc
I still dont have a full grasp on the "upper echelon 3lite" brands yet. Same kinda dichotomy in all hobbies.
seen enough of it to know price tag doesnt quite translate to upper position on the totem pole
Hola
Nah man
In animation rn
J watched someone dance with a lamp
cool I’m going to class 🪂
say hi for me
Head to badminton
So replacing a bit of the foam with more solid rubber? I do have silicone... I could put the top plate into a tray, pour a thin layer of silicone, let it dry, then cut the plates out and all the keys so I have a thin layer of silicone sticking to the top plate. Then take out and spots as needed depending on soldering
Rather, replace with something more dense.
Yes. Denser will quieten better.
This is the layers I have. Eventually I want an enclosed case. But I don't see many for sofle choc
I could replace both layers of foam doing that then. Will lighter switches help? These are choc red 50gf and will be getting pro reds 35gf in the mail next week
Yep. This is quite thin. Either custom mold silicone or use a rubber sheet. Foam so thin isn't doing much.
Anyone kow any decent boards around the 60$ mark. My sister wants one so she can make a cinnamon roll themed keyboard. Preferably light blue
Neoprene foam is what you want I think really. It's a dense rubber/foam
what keyboard to get?
one that works
like
cinnaroll?
I mean cinnamaroll
like Sanrio?
they are not
thickness and hardness can vary and it will change the feeling and the sound
I put orings on all my small keys to try them out. Honestly, it ruins the feeling of typing on a mechnaical keyboard.
and also the reduction in total travel
it doesn't if it's hard enough ... but then why put them cause the harder they are, the less they reduce the downstroke noise
in my case they diddnt actually make the keyboard any quieter
theres more than one case of irony here
they usually are a big let down
the rosewill set I had are actually hard enough that the mushiness is barely noticeable ... stragely the kailh silent box brown are mushier than the oring set I have
it's kailh silent box brown ... those are quite a nice tactile
nothing compared to cherry mx brown
it's not cause it's called something brown that it's automatically bad
got any secret hacks to make a keyboard quieter for a guy who already lubed. foamed. band aid, weighted, clipped, aka all the home-made mods I could find online. My small keys are annoyingly loud.
orings is the go-to hack for this but...I'd just steal a kb from work at that point
sanrio 🫶
wym small keys
Hi
my stab keys are great.
like any alpha and 1u key ?
I’m back what is needed
you
tharblers
that ... doesn't mean much to me
yea me too
same as thock and clack ... doesn't mean anything
ok but
they do indicate
a general direction
not really imo
like you tell me clicky I hear each actuation you make
you tell me thocc I feel it in my bones
i feel thock in my bones
Thats a pickup line
never heard anything that I could call thock besides some topre
and yet again I would not use that word to describe it anyway
anyone else love beabadobee
thock is so vague that you can have 10 people and those 10 people won't even agree about what is thock and what is not
thock is only vague cause content creators clickbait it
totally
meow
yea, now that is an idea.
random word generator, you must make a keyboard that suits that word.
Meow.
meow
Make a keyboard that purrs
hi gas :3
meow
hi girlie
you a fed
can’t let ‘em know what I was thinking 😤
turn around
in a car

that got weird fast ...

it wasn’t even 3 dms man
yes but the weirdness was over 9000 ...
I meant the emote
this is so fake man
do you wanna play doors later girlie I’m so bored
thrust
need to get used to these mx blacks
yea sure
they’re so fucking heavy
stock springs?
but you own more…a lot more
MONEYYYYY
i think i knew more when i was actively participating
nuh uh
can your brain not retain information past 2 years or something
not when i talk to you

dude.
Why everyone hate brown? Also no o rings for me xD
HA
nice
ltt server btw
let me buy heavy6!!!!!
what to look for in a keyboard?
fuck no!!!
switches?
I’ll do half 💙
bruh
bruh
sound/looks/feel/price
hiiiiiii loh
what’s Neo about it
because im so good at names
what’s doug

i really want to adopt a kitty
do it
doug is my katana40 basically
ohhhh with the funny stagger
how to take care of cats:
I see I see
take a cold hard long look in the mirror
worst case scenario itll look pretty
i know how to
and sit on my desk
i planned on it
epic paperweight

.
nice
or maybe not bc imma take it outta the case and swap it with an ortho version lol
brother got muted
wh
is it possible to make a non rgb keyboard rgb?
Only if they have special holes for them
Which some do
Some don’t
The PCB
👍
if i change the pcb will it work?
or is that not how it works
if you can find a compatible pcb ig?
👍
Bingo
Why do mfs hate mx browns
racism
we don't
browns can be nice when you put time and effort in them
I guess
also some people like small tactile bump
that is barely noticeable to the point you wonder if it's actually tactile or just linear
Ah yea. I used EVA foam. @glossy sleet
Not that they’re hated
They just feel like orings
They don’t though
had the first part of this nightmare again, for some reason there was a nice nano inside
did it make lego bricks sound effect
There's no difference between a normal switch and a hot swap- switch right? The only difference is on the board? So in theory I could desolder a switch and put it in a hot swap board?
it's not the switch that are hotswap, it's the pcb so indeed there's no difference in the switches ... so in theory you could desolder and put them in a hotswap pcb ... some manufacturer just state no to do it cause the contact legs might not be totally clean of solder and damage the hotswap socket in some way
This reminds me of the time when glarses said “I should have called them ‘Mx African Americans’”
I forget what video, I think it’s the 2nd time he mods the pewdiepie keyboard
Any one handed keyboard for gaming right handed with pointers
So I have this keyboard for when I use my Tab S7+ on the train for many hours but is there anything with better keys, that is lightweight, portable???
Is. That. A. Membrane. Keyboard..?
don't be cringe
Guys, a friend gave me an hotswap keyboard with water damage, 4 keys in a row dont work, i cleaned the corrosion with alcohol but still dont work, if i remove the socket will i have any luck to save this kb?
can anyone tell me the difference between 7u and 6.25u spacebar?
like whats the benefit
also .a low. profile.?
my keyboard has some keys that press twice for no reason only some of the time
like some times my x key will only press x once sometimes it will do it xx, if i hold it for a split second longer it will do it twice
this isnt the same for all my other keys
except the number six has this issue aswell
how do i fix it
one is longer
most ppl use 7u bc it looks symmetrical i think
i do want a wk with 7u bc you dont need right alt key
hm:3
prolly pcb
\
DEAR GOD
Please tell me you don’t daily drive that
what's wrong with it lol
It’s a keyboard what
Uh.
He’s on a train.
Oh yeah bro he should totally bring out whip out the thocker and use a USB adapter for his tablet ya know
Piss over everyone around you but it’s vibe
I think my keyboard is pretty decent for using on the train
But it would probably be better if it was unibody
Working on the next version now
Real
They won’t get mad if it sounds really good
Cobalt blues
Pre lube and film
Only* $60+shipping
Awesome!
layers
whats your level in blue archive
God knows, I know I prefer slightly quiet keyboards to those chunky thick clicking ones
i wanna see it now :o
Anyone got a cheap aahh wireless Kb? I just need one whit long asf battery life and that isnt complète shit to type short sentence on
I hate the sound of deliberate actuation clicking
The phone mic also makes it 10x as painful
It’s kinda like, why would you want your keyboard to make an earring ping, I guess it’s the most “tactile feel” one can get. But that sound can ring thru a whole house
My idea of tactile, is,
Tickling the key is enough to hit it
fiddy six
TEE KAY ELLEE
oh now i dont wanna see it
crazy hating
hiiii
whats up :3
how did you buy books but you still can’t read
oh lol
the reason that people get clicky keyboards is because awful tactiles like browns exist with a non existent bump
feel worse to type on than a membrane
if you want basically no usable tactile feedback then just get linears
otherwise you should actually be able to notice when it actuates when not typing at 30 wpm with ultra light keystrokes
"dirty reds" perfect nickname for them
dark orange
typing on a keyboard with brown switches drops my wpm by about 10-20 and way more errors
would rather use a 5 dollar membrane
sad that its the "most popular" switch
browns? or membrane
browns
whats a really silent tactile
had 3 or 4 different keyboards with different variations of brown mx, clones, logitech
all suck
even mx blue which is considered one of the worst clicky switches feels better than a brown with clickjacket
can actually notice when its pressed
plus browns are probably one of the most chatter prone switches and other similar derivative tactiles
in my experience lowest lifespan and reliability switch
with most manufacturer defects
the only way to "fix" them is to swap the housing and all the other parts and at that point its a theseus ship situation where its no longer a brown therefore all "browns" are just awfulness
People who use brows shouldnt have an opinion on keyboards

What about 🦋? 😉
This doesn’t sound like a load of horse crap at all
racially motivated
i need a keyboard for 14 usd (1200 rs) from amazon.in (the keyboard should be available there)
should be RGB
should've breathing mode (atleast 1)
100% keyboard size
im thinking of buying the cosmic byte Gk 17 (has 4 breathing modes) atm
save up
thats like asking for a 100 dollar pc or a 1000 dollar car they exist but they are either complete shit, used and in bad shape, or both
bare minimum for a keyboard is usually 30-50 usd
for low end/clone brand
but these $8 earbuds sound just as good as your beats pro. and 1/20th the cost ! /s
probably true
lol though that tells more about the beats in that case.
i have a pair of samsung buds pro 2 and love the heck out of them.
beats fit pro are unironically gen 1 air pod pros.
beats good if you like paying 200+ for a fashion statement that has bloated bass sounding like a taco bell bathroom stall
I do. I have a numpad, navcluster, all alphas, all modifiers, all symbols, all F keys, media keys...
Well, it's not just layers. Hold-taps and combo keys are equally useful ime
That too
This was 110% accurate….until Apple acquired them. So still overpriced fashion statement, but theyre far from bad sounding headphones these days (sorry keyboard chat I have no idea why this happen)
i haven't gone so far as to use combos, but maybe that's because i use homerow mods, hold tap and layers, and that seems enough
i do wanna try tapdance combos though
does anyone know if any vendor sells single springs by tx
to test all weights with and lengths
cool!
one day I'd like to design my own from the ground up. My first keyboard build has been someone else's design (still great though)
like, a single spring? no
i am looking at getting a new keyboard under 60 and cant find many decent ones (preferably no rgb but not bothered if it does)
yes
ahh
i do not want to buy whole packs just to test single length or weight
i would just need singles for my switch tester
so i have made some calculations and it would cost me 540eur to test them all
because i am not sure if i would like 45g 22m or 55g 14mm
it would be far more simple to sell single springs for 1eur
that would make them earn a big margin
Difference between 14mm and 22mm will be the snappiness of the switch
And bottom out should be more even with a longer spring
Snapiness as faster return right ?
to me 14mm feels more snappy than 22mm but 22mm feels more balanced on top compared to 14mm
unless you increase the weight
is roccat vulcan tkl good?
meh
The wingle wangle
Any recommendations on 60% keyboards, price max like 150
longer spring means faster return
since they have higher force on top out
if you get a spring that is let's say 62g that means bottom out
a 14mm and a 17mm one will require the same force for bottoming out
but the 17mm one will require more force for even starting travel
and also for activation
and force is the same up and down
50g 14mm compared to 50g 22mm will not really be more snappy
it will just have less difference between top and bottom
if you want to make it more snappy i would assume you would have to increase bottom out
so shorter springs will be more snappy
but you will have to increase weight for bottom and decrease top
while they do have higher force for top out then also have more force when pushing them down
shorter springs have lesser force of top out but feel more snappy or bouncy
because you feel more of increased force at bottom out
that makes them feel mushier
not snappier
lol
Is that the lord of hat(red)
Is that the jingle jangle
Is that the gmbrothers
Is that the Astro
Is that the gasolina
Is that the talisman
making them mushier is how they feel at the bottom out not from top to bottom
50g 14mm will feel far more bouncy than 50g 22mm
once you overcome initial force you will drop the key down faster
shorter spring will just be far lighter on top
and will escalate far more than longer or preloaded spring will
like basic cherry and gateron reds have shorter springs and feel much softer on top than bottom while yellows that have longer i believe it is 14mm compared to 15mm spring they will feel more consistent since they are more balanced
bottom out force will remain the same on 50g since springs are measured at bottom out force while longer spring will be heavier on top to reduce the weight difference but same force 50g on bottom out
this is why they are measured at bottom out
because this is only consistent constant when you change length of the spring
top will change but bottom will not
if you want to increase bottom out you will have to also increase weight of it
Damn you seem to know a lot about springs
You should just imagine how the different weights will feel 🙂
This person springs
ANYONE
meh
ok
highschool physics for keyboards nice
Wow, Is that the Cherry Mastermind himself, JINGLE
I love that you were the first to discover that Cherry Yellows were actually made by the company Aristotle
No
I like meme switches
imagine not using physics in engineering
use astrology
i cant feel a difference between springs anyways i can only feel the different weights but not different stages or stuff like that anyways
blunt typist
hi mr trail :3
duh
interesting maybe if you tried a big difference side by side
longer springs to me just feel more balanced since ratio between top and bottom is not that different
also top out is a bit better on top half
or maybe you have strong fingers
i like 50g for bottom out which is very light
i use 72-80
65g for bottom out is far too heavy for me
yes then it makes sense
i get bullied by my friends for not changing stock cherry springs
people are stupid and insecure which makes them insult people for no reason i say use what you like you know live and let live
Add me to the list..... YOU USE STOCK CHERRY SPRINGS?!?
stock springs are fine i only change them to find more ideal weight because most switches sold do not fit me
I change them cause idc what a switches spring weight is, it's getting 55g springs anyway
imo spring weight is most important at least to me
well i lube em but yea
i do not really care about the sound
That's okay if you like it you like it
Why not? You put all this effort into creating a masterpiece and you would rather settle than perfect?
they are fine no need to change them people just cherry pick
not that i want it to sound bad i just care about feel more than sound
i listen to music either way so i do not hear my keyboard
My brother you realize there is an entire community dedicated to cherry picking switches and keyboards
this is why you ignore their toxicity
I definitely wouldn't say it's toxic. Sure you have some elitists but overall it's really chill
imo elitism is very toxic because they mock people and gatekeep
But that's the 1%
they do be loud af though
I mean ya but they usually get banned from servers
this is why so many new members give up on mechanical keyboards
same with audiophile community
or car community
not if they are boosters or owners
some servers i went to had in rules "no tolerance for cherry mx brown switches"
and it was insta kick
I mean, I can speak on car and keyboard and I don't believe those are accurate at all. There's a difference between lack of knowledge, and hardheadedness. The people unwilling to learn when they are dealing to people who know more typically get ignored and then they throw a tantrum that they were ignored and the community is bad
That's super dumb
there is a difference between objectivity and subjectivity
in objectivity you find correct facts
in subjectivity there is no right or wrong
i was once told i have "objectively wrong taste"
For what exactly?
i got called a peasent for saying brown switches are not that bad
Those people who said that are dumb
Too much YouTube for them
Browns are a nice light tactile
they use crowd mentality instead of rationality
they just follow glarses memes
and i asked them to clarify why they are bad
and they said "idk they just are"
Glarses unironically doesn't hate them though, it's all for the meme
yes but people do not think about it
they just follow trends like sheeps
like someone tape mods everyone tape mods
Tape mod has it's place ya
those people who hate browns will support browns if a trendy memes supports them
tape mod is primarily a trend
and it is going downhill already
it is fine for budget keyboards
but it is a trend
every trend loses popularity
Tape mod has positive benefits for sound redirection though
this is why i do not follow trends
i like what i like
same thing with metalheads either people following trends or extreme elitism
positive and negative
makes cheap keyboard less hollow but limits expensive keyboard to sound of pcd
Depends on how many layers you use though
What board you got?
Any other boards?
i have dragonborn and rk84 also a monsgeek but this is it was gonna get tofu but not yet
not a fan of gasket mount also
but this is my opinion
my subjective opinion
before someone jumps me
what's good for quieting a board?
I'm a top mount kinda guy tbh, but a nice gasket mount is solid
i like top mount a lot more
Silent switches, foam
tape makes it louder
while foam mutes it
but housing mostly affects switches yes
i really hate gasket mount i respect it just hate it personally
while gaming makes me feel like i am on a boat
i like consistency and stability
Sounds like you have tried a lot of pretty cheap gasket mounts
So try a different plate material
is switch type like tactile/linear affect silence? i wanna try tactile but it'd have to be quiet
Boba U4'S, Durock Shrimps, my go to for silent switches tactile wise
tactility itself does not make it louder
the way you press it does
also switches with pretravel tend to be quiter than the ones with tactility on the top
not really a fan of tactility on top idk why it is so popular
main reason why i like brown switches
pretravel and light tactility
I use frankenswitches (halo true stem, Durock T1 housing) and the top tactility helps reduce error and overall feels and sounds satisfying
i dislike top tactility because you barely feel it and they feel like membrane switches also long travel distance makes you smash them to the bottom
Homie, these are the most tactile switches that still actuate was of today, trust me you feel it
I'll try shrimp, boba looks more expensive for a whole board number of switches
thx
Gotchu homie, when using tactile switches lube with a little tribosis 3203
sounds like a time investment :c
does lubing make it quieter or is it more for feel
both
Both
ye
ah, I'll see if it's quiet enough without lube first
im not too bothered about feel
a lot of people use them stock
You should since silent switches are going to be more mushy than a standard tactile
you notice lube on linears far more than on tactiles
many people dislike silent switches
top tactility imo is awful for gaming due to top actuation and long travel distance
Why are you using tactile switches for gaming anyway?
why would i have 3 or 4 keyboard plugged in
i use one for all
brown switches are great for gaming
Objectively a linear switch would be able to actuate faster, have a faster return, and overall be a better choice due to the less friction within the switch and the lack of a bump
truee but it is not that much of a difference i just like pretravel at least 1.5mm or 2.00mm this is why i switched to linear switches better overall just a bit boring
since there is no feedback
clicky are far too crispy and pitched
The no feedback is the entire point of linear switches
Lubing is placebo
lubing tactile and clicky switches is mostly placebo yes
but on linear switches you actually do feel a difference
well i was tactile user for almost a decade
but i switches to linear switches because i could never find ideal tactile switch i went through 10 or 15 different tactile switches
My desktop was going crazy a bit ago.
I woke it from sleep and the screen wasn’t coming on even though the monitor was still sensing a signal.
I unplugged that then back in.
Screen came on. Pressed space to bring up passcode entry.
It was spamming ; constantly.
So I unplugged the keyboard and it stopped. Then plugged it back in. The ; spamming started again.
You're silly
Check to see if there is a problem with the switch. If there is not, could be a software issues or a short somewhere
Holding Ctrl+A seemed to stop the spam, but once I released it started again.
What I did next was hold Ctrl+A then unplugged the keyboard and back in.
It all stopped, but I couldn’t use the keyboard anymore.
Luckily Win has onscreen keyboard to type.
Was kinda scary.
What's the keyboard
Corsair K40 I believe. I’ve had it for years.
May be on it's way out tbh
Never thought that would be a thing.
It's a membrane is it not
I do not know.
Found the issue. Its actually my MMO mouse. I have one of the side buttons mapped to ;. So thats whats repeating it all.
hola
Gotta say I love the Redragon K628 PRO 75%, I've always wanted a small keyboard but I love my numpad
i really like your setup everything matches
is that pink or red in person
Red
Negative soldier, best go custom
looks like sniper keys?
Like what?
i think Oracle is made by the same that's available and kinda similar
thx it is oracle and celestial
but sadly no pastel sky
darn
looking for something in pastel colors like lavender pink blue
or like cherry blossom
Razer switches are phenomenal though
Yep
The Kailh + Greetech era of Razer was peak
I like loud and clicky switches and they almost nailed it
I'll send you a typing test when I get home
I have a Mercutio with Razer Greens
The Razer huntsman elite doesn’t work with my computer, it uses 2 usb 3 ports that I have yet it glitches by pressing random buttons.
Lubed with Tribosis
Nice
New Razer keyboards are mid and expensive
I strongly agree
Optical switches are big doo doo
I mean, I have a 60 that is quite a bit more than that
Me too
Nice
Right up @viscid tapir 's ally
XT system class keyboard
Not bad looks to be copying the ibm model F (previous iteration of the model M)
Finally they’ve arrived
what is up my alley
This one here
i like it but i miss windows keys
Just macro it to a different key if you need it
no i mean for aesthetic purpose
main reason why i like tofu over zoom
Imo WKL>WK
WKL>WK ya
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805232258094.html? Kinda want these tbh
These are the panda tactile switches but nylon
Nylon housing
outemu 🫶
Pay me to make you T1 Halosuns
Best tactile you have ever felt
That sounds expensive
Idk
Wait aren’t those like kinda cheap
You’ve talked about them before
perfect
tho
this really kills me on zoom
oo dense
i really like the design of tofu84
Oh, ugh
This is my version of perfect
i do not like this at all
but i can respect it
there is no symmetry or consistency in color
but i can see it is fancy
What? They compliment one another color wise
Purple, pink, white and blue are all matching
too many colors
What are those keycaps?
some cherry dye sub from amazon
Yikes
Super cheap feeling
XDA profile?
how do you despise mt3
imo cherry and oem are the worst to me
idk i do not want to spend 130 or 150 on keycaps
also not able to find "BoW" or "WoB" with katakana for that price
also most have very rough texture
want to get smooth and polished ones
Preference
Just polish them yourself
https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=118081.0 well this is abs but whatever
[Guide] My method of polishing ABS keycaps
The profile is too high for me to use my keyboard effectively
Cherry is perfect for me
interesting do they not get shiny
I totally agree
Cherry profile feels horrendous to me and oem is not far from that too.
yes they look nice and are like a default but they are not sculpted well for fingertips at all
imo osa is most comfortable for me
I really prefer dsa over anything else
but a they are rare and usually thin
dsa are pretty neat
sa are too tall
Sa are too tall but you like mt3?
I have one set of shiny abs double shot sa and they were nice to use but really hard to type on for me
But box navy sounded amazing with those
They do but personally a more even shine would be nice
Unless we talk about PBT then they don’t get shiny
They do it just takes significantly longer
Mhm
My akko PBT caps are starting to shine
Also it depends of the pbt mix
Early akko have that problem
They changed their recipe since then
I've had the set for almost a year and use them every day
It's not a problem it's just wear
Earlier set would start to show shine after a couple months or so I've heard
Mine is an early asa set
Ok
i like texture of stock keychron keycaps the most very smooth and matte but plastic is so hollow and thin which is a con
When they still did the plastic home cases
Anyway shine don't bother me
Shine is nice if it's consistent, gamer shine is not nice at all
i do not mind them shiny but they all have to be shiny hh not just few
Like id never game on a GMK set
I barely game with my keyboard ... I don't play fps
Well yeah it’s a more ABS/PBT mix iirc
Every and all pbt set have abs in it and other components ... the thing differs is proportions
Yeah
Yes
So those early set must have had too much abs and that's why cause the early shine ... that would be my guess
Or it's just Garbo quality of plastic
Yeah that too
Even quality abs shouldnt be shining after a couple months
Which also doesn't bother me
I just baby my Cojiros too much
I will never get a gmk set for sure
I have yet to find a cherry set that mimics the feel and quality of GMK to a T
I don't care much about keycap quality I guess
ePBT came close before their QC issues
nPBT is nice
Lowest quality I'm comfortable using
I so not care about that ... that my favorite set is a fekker set I got on amazon
Paid 30 cad for it
My problem with clones like most Amazon brands, is poor quality and taking away from designers and color theorists
Well I would get the real one of they were 50 or 60 ...
Also I don't mind about quality
I surely won't pay more for my keycaps than what I paid for my keyboard
It's just not worth it to you
Besides a 100 $ keyboard paired with a 200 $ keycap set seems strange
I mean, why do people put 4k+ full exhausts on a car they paid 2k for, because it's worth it to them
Poor financial decision, specially for cars if they use it during winter
Also yeah would not be worth to me either
How can you say it's a poor financial decision if it's what they want to do though. If they have the money they are willing to pay with and see a necessity in spending the extra money, seems like a pretty good investment, especially if it raises the over look and feel asking side financial value
Cause a car only lose it's value specially when it's not something exceptional and / or rare
You put 20k on a 2k car ... it's not worth 22k in the end sadly
But if they want to do it then let's gooooo
It's just a nice past time
And in terms of keyboards, is a 200 GMK set not exceptional or rare
Depend of the set I guess
I don't know enough about gmk set and how limited they can be and such
Also 200 for a keycap set I'd not 4k for an exhaust on a car that will rust away in the end
There are few in stock GMK sets, everything else is small batches
And a PCB will fail in the end
Therefore limited and will become rare in the end
Pcb will last longer than average cars here
Until you desolder for the 6th time
Well we're just talking about keycaps tho
That's true, we just have different values and that's ok
Yes it is
I'm not expecting someone to blow $400 on GMK Black Lotus but I sure would
I would just save that 400 $ and use it to repair the house
Bathroom needs to be redone to get rid of the mold and such
So that would be a nice 400 $ for drywall and such
If you can redo a bathroom for $400 I need to meet your contractor lol. But seriously I get it
You start with saving 400 and it grows to 4k with time
Bathroom on average is $600-$800 a square foot
On average, of course you could go Moen instead of Kohler and vice versa
If every time I have 400 I would spend it on something I don't need I would never have anything done here
Sorry Architect kicked in
I expect the bathroom to cost about 4k ... I can't afford premium stuff anyway
You can get solid shower fixtures for cheaper if you buy them instead of the contractor, just be sure to buy the correct shower valve. Stick to a standard pedestal sink instead of a vanity with a custom sink insert, and use prefab shower curbs and systems, you'll save a lot. Plus, no architect fees in certain locations if the overall remodeling process would cost less than 5k
Can I dm you
hi guys can someone give me a reccomendation for about 80 aud
Just spent 80 dollars to order my 3D printed keycaps oof
Yeah, but I don't have space for a resin printer anyways
i primarily use my keyboard for gaming a little typing
i just do not play competitive games
well depends on cost of living of where you live and material cost also service
i would not pay that much for a keyboard
Hence the average
in the first world countries yes
but if you go to the third world country it would cost you even less
Ya but the doesn't live in the 3rd word countey
here we just order people from serbia or romania to come and do it for half the price
we do not order people but we order their services
Wait, who's ordering people?
jeffrey epstein
Dang you right
wonder who built his island lol
not island but things on his property
we went way off of keyboards
funny how keycaps cost more than barebones
not all but on mediocre
Quality hold a higher standard,
Like, my living room keyboard is a $30 Tester68 with POM Jelly keycaps, they keycaps were about 3x the price of the keyboard
would it not make sense that material for barebones would cost more than keycaps if they were both manufactured massively
logically for equal tier i would expect to be barebone > switches > keycaps according to price for compatible medium tier
That's the key, "massively". High quality keycaps such as GMK and ePBT are made in limited wuantities
70 in us would get you a Keychron V series but idk about anything else that would be worth it
Reds
I lied they are $84 prebuolt anyway
Hello jingle
Just got a bunch of fishing stuff for striper
94 with the encoder knob (v2) which is what i have
Could find an old G80 with vints for around$70
yes which means monopoly makes it rare and valuable
product or material itself is not as worthy
Explain the price of in stock GMK sets, MT3 caps, why are they all over $100 while other abs keycaps are sub $100
They have the same amount of quantity as Amazon caps of the same material
Yet more people go for the more expensive option
Higher quality
most people within a small minority
there is not that much of a difference in production cost between clones and gmks
material or plastic for keycaps is worth much less than material used for barebones
despite gaming companies being way too overpriced they still sell keycaps for lesser amount
this is like asking why is supreme so expensive
is it quality no it is branding
supreme shirt is no better than gildan shirt
drop has unique designs and they have a license to do middle earth ones and marvel ones so they can say take it or leave it
Established brands are better quality than Amazon clones
They just aren’t worth the price premium
Colour and quality of plastics is all I can say
What? GMK needs to recoup their production cost, designer cost, and a handful of others in order to start to finish a set of keycaps. Clones just copy the design, use significantly cheaper plastic, and fabricate them
Clones are absolutely horrible ethically, as you are basically saying "hey designer, I like your work, but I'm not going to give you money for it, I'll give some Chinese knock offs the money instead"
There is so much detail that goes into the quality control of high quality keycaps as well
Plus the machines require to do so as GMK uses original cherry tooling as opposed to knock off
Saying something isn't worth the cost is entirely subjective
i wonder if you use an iphone
I don't
then you use android
Yes
every phone has lithium battery which is mined by slavery
Stop sucking off gmk lol
there is no point in discussing ethics in tech
Just spitting facts of GMK
if you want to say keychron and akko are unethical companies for stealing designs you could argue gmk steals from ibm model m
You try too hard
idk why people even care about ethics in tech
like they have any impact
just buy what is cheap and good and have fun
this is your subjective opinion
But you do you boo boo
It's a saying it's not name calling
regardless what is wrong with clones
Clones are yuck
Read up in chat
Stealing someone’s design?
so is slavery by lithium batteries and people still use batteries
any device you own is backed up by slavery of lithium mines
why bring ethics in this
I hope you guys realise many popular sets have their colourways copy pasted from something else yeah?
How are you going to compare slavery to stealing designs?
i also swim the seven seas for games and movies
you are right slavery is much worse
and you complain about stealing designs
Because it’s relevant to the conversation
and it is not stealing there is no copyright
So I purchase and support the designers, which I can do. I can't stop slavery
In a moral sense yes.
do not play social warrior for one thing and do much worse ethical stuff
i buy clones because i will not pay 10 times or 11 times
I'm picking and choosing what I can physically do on my own to help rid a bad thing
There are great keycaps without cloned colorways but alright
This
i only use BoW and WoB
Those aren't clones
no but they are produced by same chinese manufacturers as clones
