does via have issues remapping the caps key or something? I tried to remap it to MT(MOD_LCTL, KC_ESC) using the ANY key. but when i do, tapping makes it work as caps lock toggle, but holding changes layer. when tapping should be escape and holding should be control.
Odd part is, when disabled it and set the key back to caps, it shows caps in the via web ui, but now acts as escape.

There's a few videos on YT for how to mod them to get them to sound better. But I think only the azoth or whatever their 65% with the little display has swappable switches? I could be wrong.
After some mods I've heard them sound pretty good based on some YT videos.
They're good if you want rgb with shine through caps, not a lot of shine through caps available anyways.

For the price you can probably get more milage from a. Custom board. But then your going down the custom board rabbit hole lol. Where everything takes longer to ship if it's not on Amazon. Which is a lot

Granted I'm new to this too so take what I have with some salt and get others opinions too and watch some videos on it. Look up videos on modding the board and see if that's something you're willing to try to get much better sound and feel

That I'm not sure. About the different layouts. You could always get new keycaps as long as the board you get supports them. Most boards use MX caps with the plus ( + ) shaped stem coming out of the switch. So you could find a cap set to get the look you want, but you may lose shine through if the key oars had that

I had the g915 TKL and was pretty nice for low profile,. But over priced. The logotechx me handicap is nice too for a simple board and feels good compared to other mass market boards. So you may be able to find the layout you need with those but yea they will be over $100
You can look at what keychron has they have many boards under $100 with ISO layouts too. I don't know what other cap sets they offer for different layouts
Nuphy also has affordable good board that support a wifi dongle, but they can't use QMK/via to , customize the keys. They have their own software which others have said is pretty "meh"

it will take getting used to yes. but the idea is that you can separate the halves and angle them so your wrists are in a better, more ergonomic position. I am a software developer so I am on my keyboard quite a lot.

it uses qmk/via so you can use special modifier keys to change "layers" which changes the effective characters on the individual keys. like on the default layer 0, hitting 2 will type a 2. but toggling to layer 2, typing a 2 will use the F2 key.

sure. can be used for gaming. your main layout would be the normal left side of the keyboard for example, and layer 2 can be hotkeys for gear, special abilities, chat, emotes, etc. you can either tap to change to a layer or just hold a button to activate it temporarily, like ctrl of shift is held to modify the next key you hit.

some do a 40% layout which removes the number row. but thats too much. especially since numbers are useful for gaming. also, if you use all the left side you can move the right side away and have more room for your mouse

so when I activate a layer, I can opt to have the layer key, or some given keys have a colored light shine under them for a couple of seconds.

like if I have a layer with a numpad, and I activate it, it shines only the led lights under the numpad keys and turns off the others

no. more like when a layer has been activated, it disables all per key led's except the ones I tell it to. such as the keys specific to that layer. then after a couple of seconds, the normal rgb lights resume.
this way I have a visual way on my keyboard to see what layers are being activated.

I also want the light under the layer key to stay a specific color if it's active, and off if it is not active.

Rubbing alcohol is fine but I wouldn't douse the stabs.

Lacking compressed air, rolling up a piece of toilet paper real tight so you can run it through the post holes can work.

just make sure to get ALL of the rubbing alcohol out. you should be fine like he said to use a qtip to get wipe it out but it should be dry when youre done.

Also, bandaid method sucks long-term, they'll be good for a week or two then the piece of bandaid will end up sliding off anyway and getting caught in your post hole

yea. rubbing alcohol sitting on plastic for long periods is bad for the plastic. so as long as it's dry, should be fine.

Better stabs, thick grease for the ends, and good technique. The bandaid method works and maybe it'll stick, and while I've figured out different ways of doing the same thing I wouldn't say it's a refined enough technique for me to recommend to anyone else

well, using rubbing alcohol is find. just don't close up a switch while its still wet. as long as it dries it's totally fine
