Quick question for anyone with the commuter backpack - are the measurements listed for it on the website when it is completely stuffed full? If only 1/2-3/4 full, would it be able to fit under airplane seats as a "personal item" bag?

It's a fairly rigid bag, so its size doesn't change all that much when full vs empty

the height and width is rather fixed, as the back piece is quite rigid, the only thing you can really reduce is the thickness to some degree

Finally used my MCM Essentials kit that I ordered back in the ShipStorm promo... but really happy with how easy the kit was to use, only complaint is that I ordered extra power brick holders and they didnt come with the extra long velcro straps :(

I would have thought it would be cheaper and easier to ship these kind of low value consumables straight from China, assuming they are made there.

Hi I’m looking at buying the ltt backpack but i see the measurements are a bit tight in regards to my gaming laptop. I have the 4080 version of the Msi Vector 16 hx recently featured on short circuit. I carry that and my work 14 inch and im concerned about it fitting in the bag it probably will on is own but with a 16x10 14 inch aswell im unsure. Have anyone the same computer and have tried it?

I imagine part of the current customer support glut is an ugly mess of the (usd vs cad declaration issue) leading to people hearing "we'll refund the difference in custom fees", and that leading to an onslaught of people who werent effected not undertanding vat vs customs vs other fees, and incorrectly thinking correct charges are supposed to be refunded to them. I feel bad for support because figuring out the proper numbers can be confusing, and then combine that with language barriers and theres bound to be a ton of ticket exchanges that basically go along the lines of the above.

Anything about 150EUR, you have to pay import duties on.

Thats why you are being charged VAT again. It happens in this scenario.

The general stance for basically every snafu has been pay whatever your government/delivery people say to, and then send ltt the receipts if you belive you were charged things you werent supposed to be and they'll verify and refund accordingly. But the path forward regardless is to pay your people.

I don't know how large the handling fee is here, but I would be more concerned about your 600+ dollar package getting destroyed for not following the procedure in place, than the maybe 10s of dollars that LTT might ultimately refund for you anyway if you can convince them you shouldnt have needed to pay.

Theres the sub 1 hour solution that has the draw back of your cash flow being impacted for maybe a day, and at worst a small handling fee, but you get your package immediately.

Theres also your solution, which seems to revolve around spending hours and hours doing things in a nonstandard way, might result in your package getting destroyed, possibly resulting in you not being able to ever get those items if theyre out of stock or were limited. Maybe after a legal battle they refund the package, or send you a new one, but then you have to spend another few weeks for that to arrive, and additionally potentially face the same issue when that arrives.

If you value your time at significantly less than the handling fee your approach maybe makes sense, but most countries enforce a minimum wage so spending more than an hour or two on this would be irrational. Also be warned that if you do feel compelled to turn it into a legal mess, judges are human, not robots, so if you were offered a good faith solution and choose not to take it, it is within their power to just dismiss the case as frivolous and leave you with nothing except legal fees.

I do hope things are resolved to your satisfaction and maybe support will be able to work things out with you sooner rather than later without any of the mess, but its an odd path to take.

They'll make things right in the end as long as you play along, they're pretty swamped right now with issues that at least on the surface sound similar to yours. It may well be the case that once they're able to take a closer look and work through any confusion that its a trivial fix, but theres no gaurantee they'll be able to do that before its too late, which is why they have the procedure in place to ensure you definitely get your stuff.

It might well be cheaper for ltt to send you the document you want, rather then refunding you stuff after the fact, but they accept that in the interest of having a procedure that isnt reliant on support being immediately available. Whatever fees their solution incurs you compared to your solution is something that support can potentially work out with you and potentially refund out of goodwill even if it isn't their standard procedure, but if you take an adversarial approach it could backfire on you.

Its unfortunate yes, and its possible that almost any other time of year they could have gotten the same email from you and things would have gone much smoother. It's just a tragic confluence of circumstances between xmas sales and the cad/usd misreport happening. Right now its it's probably more efficient to give a standard response to everyone who mentions customs issues and correctly address most people, and then sort out everyone whose issues were more unique after things have calmed down a bit. It's not ideal, and understandably feels bad when you're one of the unique cases, but it makes sense under the circumstances.

Perhaps a manager or other cs human will be able to sort things out for you your way since it sounds like you did get an escalation, but the unpaid-and-unaffiliated-with-LTT-discord-random-customer-support™ stance is to pay whatever local stuff, get your package in your hands, and then work with actual support to sort out any required refunds.

I think the difference here is fault vs responsibility. It's not LTT's fault that the tracking is terrible or mistakes happen like the backpack not being included above. But it is their responsibility to make sure it improves over time and that action is taken where things fail.

Global economics and politics are exceptionally messy so who knows if the timing is right or not from an exchange rate POV, but I broadly recommend against people trying to time the market, and just build that stuff into the (...can afford it) consideration of the moment.

I think the refund department has been pretty jammed up by the USD/CAD mishap, my previous case was resolved just a week ago after a couple weeks processing, but they notified me it would take time when I submitted it.

Also, having worked as an aftermarket/service/support manager at an electrical goods retailer early in my career, and as a senior consultant at a large MSP/consultancy now, I know how difficult it is to keep on top of tickets, communication and resolve times when you have shit hitting the fan like that. Just be patient. As long as you have an open ticket, someone will be following up. LTT are good like that. It may take them some time in high stress periods, but they've always been fair and have gone the extra mile. I think the only company I've dealt with that has their level of attitude to customer support would be Garmin Norway (their central corpo types sort of suck, support in Norway is excellent!) or strangely enough the enterprise divisions of HP and Lenovo (while the consumer end of those have been huge letdowns in the past).

Ah, so the US-side operation. Yeah, that must be chaos. For me, it's improved immensely after the US/Global split. The US distribution hub was always a black hole where shipments would just spend weeks before suddenly appearing at a courier (usually DHL, which sucks).

Now it seems to leave Canada promptly, but sadly it appears MIBC/Wizmo is using UPS for Norway. I thought I had it bad with DHL and customs clearance...

UPS will hand the package to the local mail service, you'll get it just fine and think you're good, but then a month later you'll get an invoice with a two week due date, already past due as it was mailed from Malta three weeks ago...

I wanted to come here and share my experience with the commuter backpack, since being one of the first people to receive one

Build quality: 10/10 I have no qualms here and it continues to surprise me every day how rugged this backpack is. I have no doubt it will last me 10+ years. However I am reconsidering owning it for that long for a few reasons. More on that later

Functionality: 8/10. I think it has a lot of good. The extra pockets/zippers/micro suede interior sections are all very nice. I do wish the center portion was a bit more structured to hold more.

I love the side pockets. They hold my water bottle and various other items flawlessly and I have never had anything fall out.

Comfort: 7/10 I find this backpack has an issue where the straps don't fit flush on me. When wearing it (no matter the length) only the outer radius of the straps makes contact with my body, leading it to having a pretty thin section of contact. It hasn't caused me any major issues, but I also can't say I find it super comfortable

Additional notes: I have 2 MAJOR gripes with this backpack that have been reconsidering if I will keep it anywhere near its build life.

1. I cannot get this backpack to reliably stand up on its own. Even with all of the weight in the back (laptop, tablet, battery pack, kindle) it almost always slowly leans forward and ends up crunching the front until it falls forward

2. The front structure. This is my biggest gripe on the bag by far. I have no idea how people keep the front structured and nice looking. For me. It always crunches in and even using my hand to make it dope shaped again, I can watch it deflate and suck back in on its own in real time. This leads the backpack to always looking broken down and deformed for me.

These two issues together have really soured my otherwise very positive experience with this backpack. I would love if anybody has feedback on how I could self remedy these issues! My goal is to keep this backpack for many, many years to come

I've honestly never had an issue with the bag "deflating", though the bag leaning forward has always been an issue for me as well

correct me if im wrong, but i don't think standing up on its own was ever advertised as a feature for the commuter?
At least for sure its never been on the product page (i just chcked the entire history of the product page)

When the OG backpack first launched it was a feature of that one, but it was discovered that it can lose its rigidness (and therefore its ability to stand on its own) over time so they stopped advertising that
(also on a side note, after a year of having my OG backpack, it still stands own. I prop it against something at home, but when im out i usually let it stand. Occasionally I need to push out the bottom/front, but not very often)

Mine can stand however it was not part of the advertisement, i have not got a dent in the front, but i have things stacked in the front pocket that could be getting it to be not like that? So i use things like a "tech bag" that isn't a LTT one but a bag for cables, a case for my mouse (I have a MX master 3S....) and a pencilcase, those stay at the bottom of the bag of holding.

However.... my laptop does not fit in the laptop sleeve so it being more in the middle of the bag so that could be why mine stands

I don't think it was advertized to stand up, i am just saying that seems like a pretty big issue, specifically. For a tech bag, I want my items to be scure and not constantly fall over and get knocked around

The more I look at the design, I actually think the dip is caused by me having both side prockets occupied, causing the middle of the bag to be stretched further than normal, which makes it pull straight across instead of domed out

I have been wondering if I could 3D print like an insert or something that would give the front/bottom of the bag some structure, because it seems to have almost none designed in, which leads to both the face planting and squishing in issue

the bag is super high quality, I just think those two issues might lead me to swapping to a different bad sooner than I would really like to

Yes, this is how physics work... I also load both the left and right water bottle holders on all bags I've ever had / used, which does, in fact, cause the rest of the bag to stretch. This isn't unique to the LTT bags.

Yes, I recognize that, but I also recognize that it should have probably been designed in a way to where it doesn't dump in the front dome and lead to the bag getting creased over time from it. Thats my core issue here

I have a cheapo lowepro bag I have had for 7 years, and it looks basically exactly the same to this day. I like when bags keep their structure and design. Its unfortunate that using some of the stand out features compromises that on this bag

Are you able to take a pciture of something for me real quick? I am curious to see the front corners of your bag, where they rest on the ground. Mine have pretty severe creases and folds, like the bag has broken in in a way that doesn't allow it to support any weight now

🤷 Bags, coats, shirts, pants, shoes, etc. are all subject to wear and tear. Again, laws of physics. Yes, there are ways to keep things in decent-er condition, but eventually things will wear down. Notice how I said wear down, not wear out. One of my favorite Tenba shoulder bags is absolutely showing wear due to use, but is by no means worn out yet. I guess it depends on the reason people buy bags though... I buy mine for utilitarian purposes.

To clarify again, I am not upset at the ruggedness or the wear of the bag. I am annoyed that using the features of the bag actively disrupts the entire design language of it. The bag will last for many many years. This is not wear and tear, this is a behavior/issue that stems from the design itself. It's not bad, per say, its just not a good design for how I use my bags, it seems. I am not sure why you are trying to take a sort of condescending and (I feel) rude tone with me, while also misunderstanding what I am saying 😅

My hope is that my bag would look and function as it does in all of the LTT videos. With a nice domed cover that doesn't crease or sink in, and the ability to stay standing when you set it down. Neither of those things have worked properly for me, and I was asking for advice from other owners to see if anybody has found workarounds or fixes for it

I think the only reason it functions that way is because of the bag of holding inside of it. I think if I bought that and had it at the bottom, that would add the structure the bag lacks. It would be friction fit inside, provide a solid bottom, and also push the dome out and stop it from falling in

I daily drive the bag without a tech sack (though i do own one) and have never had an issue with the bag "deflating" as you put it

I use my bag as a school bag, so i usually have a couple notebooks and folders, but even when i have it fairly empty i don't really see the issue of deflating, though to be fair i usually don't fill up the water bottle pockets

The Tech Sack absolutely would help in that regard, but honestly anything that reasonably fills the space would solve it

I do lay the bag down flat usually, it's honestly doesn't stand up properly well, which it was never advertised to do

I've only ever noticed that when the main pocket is entirely empty (save for stuff in the minor pockets)

Though again, the only real way to solve that would be to add a rather rigid frame, which would be a major detriment in many other ways

for example, this is my daily travel/work bag. I have my laptop, tablet, waterbottle, a couple snacks, a pack of gum, my kindle, 2 battery packs, and some miscelaneous other things in the bag

when making a bag you have to find the right balance of flexibility and rigidity with nearly every component, and I honestly think they found a good balance for the vast majority of people, it just happens that in this case it doesn't work well for you

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's necessarily an issue, but a tradeoff that had to be made to retain flexibility for the majority of users

the problem I am having is that the bag used to stand up somewhat, but now its so severely creased from use that it just buckles

That's just inherent to the wear of the canvas-like material they use (i want to say it's called repreve, don't quote me on that tho)

Any kind of fabric will become more flexible over time

Not to try and sell you a solution, but i genuinely think the tech sack or any similarly shapped bag would work well to solve that issue for you

It's not that it's "broken down", it's that the fibers in the material have settled into a more natural configuration
