My pen arrived. It's really cool. I also ordered the cargo shorts, and they fit well, as expected. Will order more shorts soon.

i will say, the machined tolerances on the two parts is really tight. you can barely see the seam where you unscrew it to change the ink cartridge. And Linus is right, it's a fairly standard ink cartridge you should be able to replace it at any office store

as far as making new ones... when they run out of fail screwdrivers if they want to make new pens I would prefer a different design to make this more of a collectors' item

I think floatplane is a fairly small team? It could have grown, I may have not been paying attention. But I think they're a bit over 100 now counting creator warehouse and stuff.

They could, but there's no reason to. It's an upcycled product they made from otherwise useless materials. They'll make what they can, sell what they can, then likely not restock it in that form once they run out. Personally, as someone who has never cared even the slightest bit about pens, I love mine and would recommend it to anyone willing to spend $30 on a pen, but it's definitely a ridiculous product.

Catching up it feels like someone forgot that the pens only exist because a manufacturer screwed up an order and LLT paid for a bunch of screwdriver shafts that were unusable. It isn't as if they designed a pen from scratch and can just order more from the pen factory.

I'm very curious how, or if, they plan to produce scribedrivers going forward. Does manufacturing the pens directly maintain the same margin as upcycling the screwdriver shafts? Is the margin of a non-upcycled scribedriver better, worse, or the same? Is the quality and performance of a non-upcycled scribedriver better, worse, or the same? I'm endlessly fascinating by LMG's product development processes given their size relative to the number of different things they've produced

Personally I’ve been holding out waiting to see what they come up with, but I don’t carry around the extra LTT bits I have, I could definitely see how that would quickly become a hassle

I just carry whatever LTT bits fit in the handle, a few of which I swapped out for Torx and Pentalobe to suit my use case, and then I carry a generic kit with a whole bunch of other bits that I’ll just swap into my LTT driver when needed

You're supposed too, unless you get the VHB kit.. the adhesive on the normal onces is more to help it stay in place as you screw it in.. That said, depending on the surface, and how much they are holding, you might not need to worry about it.

customs varies per country. the buyer (you) is responsible for it. in some countries it is arranged good and will just be delivered to your door. other countries you have to announce to the customs that you are expecting a package. you may have to pay certain fees. it's best to check your own government's import rules.

So I bought my water bottle about a year ago, never opened it. I opened it today to use it finally and it had a black speck of who knows what at the bottom of it. When I went to clean it it smeared all over the bottom of the bottle before disappearing. Not sure what it was. Cleaned it with hot water about 10 times to be sure it was gone.

Over time it may become slightly harder, as in it will require a bit more force on the screw before it will ratchet, but I’ve used mine quite a bit in the ~1.5 years I’ve had it and so far have not noticed a difference

I also have a stubby I carry in my pocket which I’m sure isn’t great for the internals, with lint getting in and the constant friction against other things, and it still feels great on that one too

You need to make sure the zipper is slid into the plastic thing all the way. It takes a bit of effort to actually get on all the way.

It is a tight fit and the thing that you spin down should basically be at the end of the metal that keeps the pull there.

What also helped me was I held the zipper into the plastic thing while I tightened it down to prevent it from slipping out before it was able to put enough pressure on to close it enough

Definitely avoid loosening and retightening, every time you loosen it it’ll fatigue and get weaker

It’s only really meant to be done once (really it was never meant to be done at all, but it can survive once or twice)

Well like I said it does take a decent amount of effort to put on in my case, I found using the new pull to push on the zipper and then pushing on the back of the plastic the easiest way. But to know it’s on all the way it should be up the part that starts to get smaller on the zipper.

Its intentionally a tight fit so that it wont move when you tighten it.

RE the backpack carabiner kit, what are the 'canonical' zipper pulls that the 4 carabiners replace? and are the non-carabiners any different from the pulls already on the bag?
