Backpack story: 12 KG loadout on a ~ 30 hour international trip, involving connections, a lot walking around at airports, standing around at baggage claim, that kind of thing. No soreness in my back or shoulders afterwards (I'm not used to carrying this much weight) and the backpack held up like a champ.

One minor annoyance I felt is that the zipper pull for the passport pocket, when it is fully open, tends to bury itself behind the the bit of fabric that goes over the zipper and can be quite hard to get at.

I feel like I read or heard something from a LMG person regarding it being not great in locked. Dunno if it was linus on wan or nick/kyle on twitter, but it's some situations where making it better in locked would have tradeoffs elsewhere, and they feel a ratcheting screwdriver is primarily going to be used with the ratcheting mechanism engaged rather than locked so that's why they made the decisions they did there.

I know Linus has mentioned as much on WAN because he said he never used it in the locked position so hadn't noticed that the wobble in the locked position was as bad as it was

However the case I'm using it in right now has a point when I need to loosen a screw ever so slightly so that I can adjust something, then tighten it right back up and test. Then repeat until the adjustments work in the right way.

So changing the ratchet when I do half a turn doesn't make as much sense.

Project Farm did a comprehensive review with detailed explanations of how and why there might be some play in the driver with it in the locked position...it's apparently a tradeoff for not having too much back force in ratchet mode. I don't think there should be any slippage though. I've used mine quite a bit, but not on anything that required a lot of force yet.

But watching that video was an excellent primer on what to expect from a ratcheting driver and what all the tradeoffs are in different ones.

The LTT screwdriver in the Project Farm test made it to 294 inch pounds in locked mode before it broke and did not slip prior to breaking. I really don't think it should be slipping. I wonder if it just wasn't quite seated yet after it's assembly and is fine now. I can see how that might be thing.

Here's the final tally from the ProjectFarm review. The numbers are how the ratcheting drivers ranked on each test. As you can see, LTT had a lot of rotational slop in locked position, and I can attest to that, but you can't have low ratcheting backdrag without locked rotational slop, so it was a conscious tradeoff for a driver meant for electronics.
However that rotational slop is not slippage. It has a hard stop on either side of that rotational slop.

The sooner you let them know there was an issue, the sooner they'll take care of you. Even if the combination of the holiday sales and the screwdriver backorders have them swamped, they won't want you to hold off on getting a faulty screwdriver replaced. The queues for these things are backed up, but that shouldn't stop you from getting your place in line.

Not sure why the support button wouldn't work, but you should just be able to manually email [e-mail] even if it doesnt automagically open your mail program and enter it for you. Sadly once a package gets returned-to-sender it's essentially irreversible. But when we respond to your ticket we'll be able to offer you either a refund or another shipment attempt.

You can save some time by replying to your own ticket and naming which of those two options you'd prefer; then when we respond to you we can just do it instead of having to ask.

Its the transition between ltt designs printed on AA shirts to ltt designs printed on ltt shirts. AA was kinda unreliable for them and also was difficult to get non-black, so their own blanks should be much more consistent now that they finally have them. I hear they ran into some issues with their local place that puts the designs on shirts though which is why they've got the blanks but very few printed design shirts atm.

Think the plan was to sell through the remaining AA stock and then have a big restock of ltt ones, but that latter step has had some struggles.

A significant portion of their audience, and also the vast majority of their costs are in USD. They've figured out what sort of margins they need, so the pricing is based on their costs, which is relatively stable in USD. If it were in CAD the prices would kinda float around based on the exchange rate, which would be a pain for a variety of reasons (as they commonly advertise prices in videos), and again since their costs and desired margin is in USD, CAD prices would just be the USD->CAD price anyhow.

If you forget to put a tool back in its place, it's super-obvious that something is missing. This is a great way to keep your workspace organized, but also a great way to stop losing tools.

The pegboards are from Wall Control, they're steel and have vertical slats (in addition to the standard 1/4" holes at 1" spacing) which allow you to use a different kind of attachment mechanism that allows the mounted bits to be fully locked to the board

So, as an old fart...regarding money and tools. Generally buy the best tool you can for the job when you need it...which isn't what we are doing here with this tool. We are in part giving into FOMO...but most of us also have a persistent need for screwdrivers.

If this is your only screwdriver, it is the wrong screwdriver. Get a 5-in-1. The LTT screwdriver is seemingly for finish work and fine work. A 5-in-1 will be prefect for door screws and anything that could break a tool.

This is legitimately a fairly top tier screwdriver, which is good so it's worth the price, but also I think most people don't actually need a top tier screwdriver in their life to begin with. If the goal is to support LTT, it's probably one of the most practical purchases (assuming you already own plenty of clothing), and I might at some point get one with that in mind. I do think theres a number of people who are anxiously refreshing their order page every day who are going to find the novelty wears off within a week or two of receiving it and then just kinda ignore it, rather than it be a life changing purchase some are making it out to be though which is kinda unfortunate.

(There are certainly also a number of people here who do in fact need a top tier screwdriver in their life and the LTT one fits the bill for them. But theres also lots of people who want to use LTT for everything and will end up over torqueing things where a ratcheting screwdriver is not the correct tool.)

Generally, youtuber merch is all over the place, but basically, a YTer wants to sell merch, they pay an artist to do sum urt, then get it done by a merch print and sew shop. It can be crap or great.

But Linus started in products (marketing, sales, and design), This screwdriver is seemingly the first time he went deep into the product design and manufacturing. I think it's great.

So it’s my daily driver bag for work. In the laptop compartment I’ll have my 14” work laptop, 12.9” iPad Pro w/Magic Keyboard. Wireless headset for work & wireless mouse along with my laptop charger. Couple of USB-C to Lightning cables as well.

The large compartment has the little zip pocket, I keep a USB-C cable in there (mostly for testing purposes for monitors in the office). I’ve got the 40oz water bottle in there as well. Other than that the big compartment will keep my lunch and where I’ll keep my headphones when not in use, could easily also fit in a hoodie or rain jacket in there too. I had an overnight trip and easily got in a change of clothes/toiletry bag and had space for headphones in there.

Front pocket I keep some meds in the mesh pouch. LTT screwdriver in the part designed for it and my JRE knife/spare blades in the pocket beside it. The little zip pouch has various USB adapters in there e.g. USB-A to C.

It’s awesome for that sort of use case. One thing I’ll say is that it is pretty boxy, if you stand on the bus or train with it on you will take up the space of at least 1 other person lol.

I’ve found it very comfortable too even when it is full.

I think that’s exactly what it is. I’m in the UK and my estimated taxes when buying the backpack was like truss I think. I got charged by the courier for VAT and when I put the claim in to LTT those taxes are exactly what I was refunded.

If you do order and get hit with a customs charge when it gets to you then make sure you contact LTT with like a pic of the letter or whatever asking foe the customs payment. I believe the article on their site is one of the pinned messages in this channel.

Hello all, I would like to ask for a little advice regarding importing items into EU country and the issue with being charged twice for VAT (once by LTT Store and then by the local customs).

Basically my order was 81.87 + 24.99 for shipping + 17.20 for VAT = 124,06 USD

Now the local customs has my order they will calculate the new VAT (which is 21% calculated from the whole order including shipping and any other expense and that means the already includes tax I paid = 26.05 USD).
Next to it I will have to pay a special fee to local post office because I don't have the IOSS number (it's around 4.90 USD; if I had the IOSS it would be free of charge).
So even if the LTT Store refunds the 17.20 USD I already paid, I will have to pay around extra 13.75 USD because I don't have the IOSS number.

So is there any solution to this? Anybody was able to reach out to LTT Store Support and have this sorted out? I would send them email (and I probably will) but given the backlog they are probably experiencing I'm not sure I will hear from them before the Customs process my order.

Why is your customs including the VAT you already paid to calculate the new VAT? They are the ones doing things wrong here as that's not supposed to be included presuming you are in the EU. I've had the same problem but my customs only counted the order plus shipping as that is what I put in as costs. Feels like you will probably have to try to sort this out with local customs first.

As I don't think LTTstore has given out the IOSS number in any cases unfortunately.

Well tomorrow is the first business day so I will be sure to reach out to all parties involved in the customs process here. But the last time I asked about the custom process directly at the custom offices I was told that they don't really care for what I paid, they are calculating the VAT and import fees from the overall sum I paid to the retailer. There might be some fees that the retailer possibly has to pay in their country of origin and it is not responsibility of the local customs to research what individual item on the invoice stands for. And that is why there is the IOSS number. Based on it the customs can match the order and see that the VAT was already paid. But if the retailer is not providing the IOSS number then the customs don't really care for what is on the invoice and will require me to pay the full sum. Hopefully I'm wrong, but I just wanted to know the experience of the other customers how they dealt with this. And just for the record, even on the customs website there is clearly stated that the IOSS should be provided by the retailer and usually should be visible on the invoice. So I would like to know the "why" LTT store does not want to share it (I suppose it is for some security reasons but I would like to know more I guess - there is 99 pages document but I don't really speak Lawyer).

There might be slight difference due to currency fluctuations but it should not be major.

Finnish customs even has instructions for it cause it seems to be relatively common here: ”You have paid VAT to the IOSS seller already at the time of your purchase, but you cannot get an IOSS identifier from the web store or the service does not accept the identifier you provide. This means that you have to pay VAT again in connection with customs clearance, and contact the seller for a refund of the tax. Enter the price that does not include the Finnish VAT as the value of your consignment. The VAT is repaid by the web store, not by Customs.”

Look at the pinned messages in this channel, there’s a link to advise on contacting LTT Store to get a refund on the estimated taxes you paid at checkout. I had to do the same thing recently and they refunded what they charged me for taxes.

Yep, refund on the estimated taxes. That is my issue. I will get back 17.20 USD that was the estimated tax, but actually I have to pay 40.95 USD for VAT to custom office, just becuase LTT store refuses to share IOSS.

If the IOSS would have been shared, I dont have to pay anything, LTT does not have to refund anything and all are happy.

Yeah it sucks but LTT are really only estimating the taxes, I was charged $60 USD in estimated taxes at checkout when buying the backpack. I had to pay £73.xx (can’t remember the pennies) to the courier when delivered) which is obviously significantly more. They refunded me that $60 USD which is really all they could do.

I don’t know what significance LTT sharing the IOSS would have, whether it would’ve meant I paid only the difference between LTT’s estimate and the actual taxes or not but with LTT refunding what they charged I’d have only been out of pocket for the difference between the two in the long run anyway.
