so when i went to start folding while i slept my cpu usage started fluctuating insanely... like changing from anywhere in the range of 5% to 100% usage once every frame and locked up all system apps like task manager or opening any folder.
i havent had any issues any other time i went to start but this time it just freaked out, is there any reason why it did this? i have a video of it to show what was happening if needed

I don't think there is a client built for ARM, but it may be possible to compile the client from source and run it on a RPi but I'm not sure that it would perform great

#

And also, CPU folding isn't the fastest to fold stuff and so limits the problem size, and perhaps, even a desktop i7 is performing worse than a entry-level GPU (like a mobile GTX 1050) and consuming more power, so a small RPi 3 ARM CPU isn't even remotely viable for folding (maybe in a huge datacenter cluster-like setup, it may be viable)

@rich depot Running a GTX 970. I tried updating to nvidia-390 but that wouldn't let me load back into Ubuntu (trust issues error). Purged all nvidia packages and now Software & Updates is showing this

@rich depot 396.54 installed. From Slots I hit Add then selected GPU and OK. Hitting Save doesn't add the GPU to Folding Slots

You don't want to do that really. You can get failed WUs from wonky OCs and if you get a bunch you get assigned not so great WUs. @worthy summit
