I believe people who got more than double the value should have received a separate email with another gift card amount. Check your spam / junk folders. If you don't find it, login to your LTTStore.com account and look at your orders, as there should be record of the gift card(s) there. If you find nothing, then I'd contact support.

You're at the mercy of YouTube designing their platform in a way that actually lets people filter content how they want to see it. I have the same problem with Shorts content from a multitude of channels - I never, ever want to see vertical video, ever, period but there's no way to filter that out of suggestions with default YouTube clients / apps. On desktop, I use a browser extension that completely hides Shorts from almost all pages on YouTube.

Was thinking after Linus said about speeding up the transition from the main channel to the WAN Show channel because he didn’t like the double-VOD situation.

They should record a short “live” announcement on the main channel (no subscriber ping) about the move (so it appears on the Live tab), then unlist or just disable new VODs on the main channel entirely. Problem solved

There is some speculation that it was deliberately left insecure because they wanted it 'broken' so they could remove the most privacy respecting features.

Well it's 2026 and I just want you to know, Phil, that I FUCKING CALLED IT!"

And the picture is of a screen for a water fountain. The options on the screen are ambient, hot, Black Cherry (partially cut off), and Grapefruit. In the top right of said screen is a large red window with an icon depicting a cloud with a line running through it, and the text "Reconnect Internet" underneath.

They’ve talked before about how they signed their Twitch contract inside a very short window that allowed them to stream across different platforms in perpetuity, I don’t think YouTube will mind a short livestream simply pointing to a different YouTube channel

#

It’s kinda strange that they haven’t set up a WAN Show specific Twitch channel though as part of this little reshuffle

#

I’m only assuming they still want to do PC build streams during the odd week on the main channel across all the platforms

crude sandal
#

They've said why they haven't bothered to do it on twitch

And the reason is the vods are disabled, it doesn't matter, and they don't care about twitch

tacit drift
#

maybe it's just because I haven't joined any big servers until recently but it seems like scamming attempts have gone from once in a blue moon to at least once or twice every single day

#

especially in the LTT discord

timid ruin
#

Public DC channels are just way too easy to bot invade. I'm modding another relatively large server and I need to filter members with signals at least once a week (and that's apart from those who get auto-modded by the bot and the ones being reported by other members).
We usually have DM scam bots as a majority, but at the end of the day it's all just bots and/or infected/stolen accounts

late flower
#

I'm in another server that uses warship (180k members) and the ones that get through warship are several a day (the four scam images thing)

#

I've heard from staff that there are plenty more that get caught by the filters

#

lol while I was speaking

timid ruin
#

Yeah, ours have a filter that's programmed by one of the mods, so it's doing a better than expected job, but it's still not 100%

#

Especially with the screenshot spams, that's so complicated to auto-mod

late flower
#

tbh I might make a bot that just auto mutes any person who sends more than one message with exactly four attachements within a 5 minute period

tacit drift
# late flower lol while I was speaking

these seem like such lazy attempts at scamming in particular that I feel like the scammer puppeting those accounts is just trying to get them banned from popular servers for extortion purposes

#

The rule AR mentioned is actually a decent solution

#

As long as the scammer/bot posts the same to multiple channels

idle nimbus
late flower
#

some servers solve this with a "honeypot" channel. any message in that channel is autoban

timid ruin
#

If your message gets removed, you can always ask. If the rule is added to server rules, it is a good reference

late flower
#

could be setup however. forward to a log channel, delete, 3 day mute

#

etc.

timid ruin
#

Fair. And users can always be unmuted manually

#

My point is that it wouldn't be irreversible necessarily, and I find that it's super hard or circumstantial to actually accidentally get caught in this

#

If I send multiple photos, I do it by reaching the maximum at a time (9), so it's unlikely that I'd end up sending 4 photos within a short period to multiple channels

#

(so like, you won't be sending 3x4 photos, rather 8+4 or 9+3)

Your laptop has stickers advertising the components inside. The back of it has a logo, advertising which company made the laptop.

Everything has ads. I also hate the ads on windows but what I want (and already have) is an option to turn it off. Non tech users might need these things to get to know about new features. I don't. So just give me a toggle to turn it off (which exists) and then I don't care about it after that

i think luke had mentioned needing to modify the /etc/fstab file, which is how linux knows what to mount and what not to mount at boot time, and if it fails to mount the boot stops, so changing drive configuration (or a drive failing to mount) would impact that. I personally have only encountered issues when modifying the /etc/fstab file, (which was to add a ntfs game drive that has since moved to inside my machine, permanently attached instead of a usb to sata adapter, and unplugging it would cause my pc to not boot as it couldnt find the drive)

I wish I had more reasons to use Linux though. I try out a lot of games, and also fly in the microsoft flight simulator. It's just way easier to use Windows for that.

And I never had the issues the others are complaining about online, so I'm so confused when someone complains about some of the issues they've been having on windows. My fair share of problems with them are finally being fixed now.

Also, loving the new xbox mode. Controlling the Lap with my Xbox controller has been really nice. The annoying white flash when opening file explorer has also been fixed. It is starting to feel exciting again. I used to be in the insiders when Windows 11 came out for the first time so that I could try out the new features first. Then came the era where the new features were only copilot stuff, and that made me leave it entirely.

Now I'm back because the new updates feel exciting again. It feels like msft has given a more free hand to the windows team to drop the "corporate talk" and actually care about the OS.

frosty torrent

undone kelp
frosty torrent
#

Windows powers homes, businesses and governments. They forced reinstalls of Win 10 every 6 months in all those places. They only let you delay updates even in corporate and government environments where it will break the software they use to do their jobs. They bundle all changes into one massive update instead of being able to opt-out of particular issue-causing updates. They injected hover-activated "news feeds" that couldn't be turned off by conventional, or extraordinary measures, because they would change and hide the settings on a monthly basis

The real issue is that Microsoft forgot what business they're in. They are in the business of writing software, and some hosting. Not being a media conglomerate. Not being security taste makers. Not managing the world's desktops because we are too stupid, inept, or rebellious.

undone kelp
frosty torrent

also even forced updates isnt enough to get people to update. one of my friends was on win 11 21h2, and didnt realize he wasnt fully updated until a game he wanted to play had a weird bug due to it being out of date. windows wasnt even letting him know it was out of date, win update was saying he was up to date. when he did update, the only difference he noticed was copilot lol

It allowed me to do what and how I wanted to do, without having to micromanage the whole system, and I could finally run games and software that was at the time incompatible with Linux. Well, yeah
Linux is also really amazing, don't get me wrong. I think it has great potential and Windows having competition is good. But I'm not going to blindly hate something that just works for me, just because of some issues, which are easily fixed.

I also think that the hate on the internet is going too overboard for everything. There was this youtuber who spoke positive about DLSS5 and he started getting death threats. So people should be allowed to voice their opinions in a way that they don't get death threats and for that the hate should reduce.

It's fine to have different opinions on something. And since I've been so excited about Windows since I was a kid, I am voicing my opinion that it feels exciting again now that a lot of these issues are being fixed. I don't see how that is controversial or hard to understand at all.

There's nothing controversial in your opinion, especially since it comes from a place of how it does, in fact, work for you. What works for your situation is the best for you, this should never be controversial or offensive for others.

Some people hold their own opinion on a pedestal and expect it to be absolute. If they feel even the smallest threat that someone might disagree with them, their fragile ego can't take it and they go to extremes to defend it. Which is quite immature and sad, since opposing opinions should not be threatening to anyone. If I was an iOS fanboy, I could still accept another person using idk DOS or something. I did very much enjoy Ubuntu back then (and I had strong opinions about the bits that were absolutely terrible), and I was also very happy once I had a viable Windows system again, after XP got phased out. But in my work, I do heavily prefer working within an iOS infrastructure, since enterprise software and security works with iOS so.damn.well. But my main work profile (MES) is Windows-only, and is a pain to set-up anywhere else. So yeah, I have a very good idea why any person would prefer one OS over another, and I don't feel the need to be a jerk about someone else's opinion lol.

Yeah
so do you think Windows gamers would be more likely to announce to the world they are using windows or do you think Linux gamers would be more likely to announce that they are using Linux (obv the latter)?

And on Windows, you also have a lot of other options to download and play games without issues, while on Linux, it is easier to use Steam for better compatibility.

So you are not really measuring the number of Gamers, Steam survey is measuring the number of people on Linux that play games on Steam, who are also willing to do additional clicks to contribute to something called "Steam Hardware Survey", which most people who are just casual gamers and just want to click play and get into the game, will most likely ignore.

So it isn't really a good metric by any means

#

I use steam for like one game, but that also I open through the XBOX app instead of going through Steam. So it probably wouldn't count me as a Windows user despite me using it. So that's why I would like to see some analytics that isn't opt-in.

That is the only thing that can give a realistic picture

random trout
undone kelp
# random trout You could say the same about windows users though... Unless you've got stats on ...

For Windows, Microsoft collects a lot of data so you have a pretty good idea of how many users there are.

Let's say you are a gamer on windows, but you dont use steam at all. that immediately excludes you from the survey.

If you are using linux for gaming, you have enough technical knowledge to know what a hardware survey is and you will also be really happy to show the fact that you got windows games running on Linux. A windows user, who is unhappy with the stuff microsoft has been doing lately is less likely to participate in that.

Steam users who use linux is definitely increasing, but that is not a realistic metric for "Gamers" in general, nor for Linux users in general.

The number of people that disable telemetry is very miniscule. There's a lot of people that use windows without even opening the settings app.

They can also go by the number of Microsoft account users who signed up from windows 11.

A lot of stuff exists through which they can get an almost accurate number. The number of people that disable telemetry is very very small compared to the rest of the userbase

GoDaddy pulled this bullshit on me once too. My personal domain, which I had registered with them a little less than 20 years before and never moved out of simple inertia, vanished one day from my account. No warning, no notice, no nothing. I contacted customer support and was told that it had been transferred to someone else (!).

After several days of ferocious arguments with their customer support, the domain quietly and mysteriously appeared back in my account. Again, no notice, no apology.

That was the kick in the pants I needed to move my truly ancient domains off GoDaddy for good

IMO 90% of the people that would click the Linux diestro are just doing it to install Windows on it as soon as it comes in. Either they're buying for a place with a legit volume license, have a legit retail license they want to re-use or want to save money by activating without a legitimate license via grey market or simply plugging in keys from old machines until something works. Oh - I suppose they could also just simply be OK with the watermark.

the thing is ™ microsoft doesn't charge OEMs the same rate they charge for a retail key. One would assume* that actual OEMs pay an even lower rate than you see resold keys going for on the open market.

With the exception of only the build it yourself version of the framework, I can't recall such an option. Even the pre-built framework does not ship without OS preinstalled. You must choose Windows or Ubuntu. It's why Ubuntu has such a high selection rate. There isn't a 'none'.

Isn't it easier to get a pc with an os so that you can make sure everything works without waiting for hours to install. You can also make a USB installation through it if you don't have one already.

I think all chromium browsers handle this in a similar manner. Edge just decrypts them at startup. You'll still need some sort of access to the system to access it.

Google Chrome encrypts it iirc but the key to decrypt it is stored normally itself (is what I understand). It doesn't make a difference honestly.

If someone has that kind of access to your system in the first place, you have bigger things to worry about.

About xbox helix:

It's biggest selling point is that it can be used for playing PC Games, XBOX Games, and can be used as a console in the living room, and as a desktop PC (if the windows mode actually does end up shipping)

[This is my understanding based on all that has been said about this, and also from the leaks]

#

Soo if anyone has a steam account, they'll go for the helix if it's comparable in price to the steam machine, since they can also play xbox games and xbox console games in addition to their existing steam library.

The PS5 market is gone for Xbox. They messed up with their "This is an xbox". Xbox can't get that back. But they can get the xbox - pc market if they do it well in hardware.

Anything else from exclusive games is a bonus. Everything depends on the price of the console.

The pinned apps also appear as pinned icons. Turn off recommendations and then you have a grid/ list of all apps at the bottom essentially doing what "all programs" does

The new one is good. Upcoming one adds more customisation options like larger and smaller menu

It's not as good as kde in terms of customisation but it's not like the start menu is bad. It looks good and is very usable and functional with some good customisation.

But also, Win11 does more aggressive force restart, so restarting after updates cannot be postponed as long as with Win10

It gives plenty reminders and does it automatically outside of active hours (with a 15 minute warning) if that option is enabled.

timid ruin
#

For me, every automatic updates are always disabled (and active hours are set pretty much 24/7), but my husband's Framework updates on its own anyway and often randomly restarts. It's definitely not 2 months after the restart icon appears, more like a couple of weeks at most. We usually only find it out in the morning when it's starting up from scratch.

Windows 10 was definitely stretching to 2 months or sometimes even more but not Win11. Same happens with his PC. My laptop is irrelevant, since it's more often turned off than on, so it's updating nearly every time it's on and I just install stuff before turning it off.

I just manually update a few days after update Tuesday.. I don’t see the appeal in just ignoring updates. I of course get the computer shouldn’t just reboot in its own and all, but personally it doesn’t bother me cause I’m already on the ball.

Oh I actually am not bothered, it was really just a note on Kirashi's comment; that postponing restarting indefinitely (or at least at length) isn't as doable anymore on Win11 as it was on Win10.

# undone kelp There's a setting for that in windows update settings. Automatically restart dur...

It's not on. As I said above, everything that can delay restart is on, but the devices still restart within about 2 weeks from the update regardless of settings. There are no inactive hours on the system level (as I've mentioned, it's pretty much marked manually as active 24hrs a day). And it's not that big of a deal. My whole point was to note, that as opposed to Win10, Win11 will wait less before it goes into update finalising mode, when everything is set exactly the same way as it was on Win10. When updates/restart could be delayed for that 2 months period. I think I even had push-messages before to save my work so that the PC can restart in 5 minutes or something. But it's not a big deal, it's just what I am experiencing. I think neither his PC or his laptop are having a Windows account set (only a local account), so this might be related to local accounts, but either way, this is how it is.

I think this is stupid.

Cause if the CRTC is just using that money to prop up Legacy media like cable, completely stupid.

But if it's funding for the CRTC itself then maybe it's okay?

But it also depends on how that money is spent;

If that money is spent on consumer advocacy. Then great! No complaints from me.

If that money is spent on promoting "Canadian values". Then I don't want it, like at all. In fact I hate it, cause that means that money would just get passed onto us, the consumers with the only benefit being Vanity.

At least if that money gets spent on consumer advocacy, better outcomes would be made for the consumer rather than just vanity.

The unfortunate likely scenario is that the money would just get spent into vanity projects that end up promoting multiculturalism and Canadian values.

Idc about either, I'm not even against the idea of the CRTC taking 15% (which just means it would get passed on to us), as long as that 15% gets used as a consumer advocacy fund.

However if it was exclusively going to a consumer advocacy fund, It wouldn't need to be 15% anyways.

I was just watching WAN show, late as always, and i just got to the section about MS dropping 2fa by sms.

In sweden, its actually illegal for employers to force employees to use their private property for work. The Employer must provide ALL tools required to preform work related tasks. There is BYOD systems, but they got increasingly unusable with the introduction of GDPR for various reasons. Apparently, not even asking the employee to install an authenticator app is allowed. Or rather, if the employee dislikes the idea of having company mandated apps, the company simply HAVE to provide one. Under BYOD programs, they generally also have to give you money for managing your device of choice. (Ofc, amount dictated by agreement).

# pastel fox I was just watching WAN show, late as always, and i just got to the section abou...

This is how it is in BC too. If MFA is required to sign into accounts in order to accomplish your work, the employee can request that work provide an MFA method since it's a work related tool. This could be a work smartphone, an MFA hardware token, or a stipend that covers a portion of the cost of their personal phone if the employee is willing to go that route. For me personally, I will not install anything work related onto my phone because that opens me up to having my phone taken into evidence should there ever be a legal situation involving the employer. Plus, I want work to be work and personal to be personal. I will not mix the two.

Linus, dude...

tiny nimbus
#

I still don’t know how the new Adequate Media company fits into the corporate structure and how separate it is from LMG, but WAN Show channel needs to go back to being just LMG Clips, and they should just start a new WAN Show channel from scratch just for WAN Show livestreams

Ping the LTT channel every week with a live stream that’s just a pre-recorded message with a link in the description to the stream/VOD on the new WAN Show channel and a reminder to subscribe, that stream on the LTT channel then gets deleted/privated and replaced by the new, identical pre-recorded message (with ping) when the next show airs on the WAN Show channel as normal

#

After about six weeks, leave the last pre-recorded message live on the LTT channel, rename it to “Where’s my WAN Show?” and change the link in the description to the base WAN Show channel
