I believe people who got more than double the value should have received a separate email with another gift card amount. Check your spam / junk folders. If you don't find it, login to your LTTStore.com account and look at your orders, as there should be record of the gift card(s) there. If you find nothing, then I'd contact support.
You're at the mercy of YouTube designing their platform in a way that actually lets people filter content how they want to see it. I have the same problem with Shorts content from a multitude of channels - I never, ever want to see vertical video, ever, period but there's no way to filter that out of suggestions with default YouTube clients / apps. On desktop, I use a browser extension that completely hides Shorts from almost all pages on YouTube.
on desktop ublock can block the shorts section, for me I have history off so I default to the subscriptions page and with shorts blocked I only get a list of vids from my subbed channel
feels like the only way to make yt work like before
Shorts are the primary reason I used Unwatched on iphone since i can easily filter them
they're late by a whole 3 minutes gasp
wan show? late? that never happens
timed dinner perfect figured they'd be on time since early lol
yeah they announced it yesterday
thats been there for many months, but usually its mostly transparent. I assume they made it not as transparent with the latest shirt release
Wait really? I never noticed at all before
I'm surprised they're not switching their editors to Da Vinci. They would save so much money
OH that explains the bird
The best Anti-adobe video I know of:

uwu, next gen leak?
license fees are small compared to the cost of editors wages and switching has a productivity cost, at least during the transition. Workflow efficiency matters.
Also I'm sure each piece of software will have quirks, and with this they already know them/its part of their workflow..
Yeah tell this to all the tech companies that had massive layoffs
Didn't stop them

<@&750150305383186585> yet another one of the same scam, same is in #whale-lan
In 1999, I was playing a decker in Shadowrun, and tried to distract a guard by hacking a water fountain to overflow, and my GM said "why would a water fountain be on the network? That's fucking stupid. No you can't try."
Well it's 2026 and I just want you to know, Phil, that I FUCKING CALLED IT!

I mean, it's still stupid
Asked Google why Luke & Pirate Software is best friends. Sometimes Google AI quick summary truly gets things wrong. lol
Because of course it did https://www.theverge.com/policy/914619/trump-administration-violated-first-amendment-ice-tracking
Was thinking after Linus said about speeding up the transition from the main channel to the WAN Show channel because he didn’t like the double-VOD situation.
They should record a short “live” announcement on the main channel (no subscriber ping) about the move (so it appears on the Live tab), then unlist or just disable new VODs on the main channel entirely. Problem solved
There is some speculation that it was deliberately left insecure because they wanted it 'broken' so they could remove the most privacy respecting features.

"In 1999, I was playing a decker in Shadowrun, and tried to distract a guard by hacking a water fountain to overflow, and my GM said "why would a water fountain be on the network? That's fucking stupid. No you can't try."
Well it's 2026 and I just want you to know, Phil, that I FUCKING CALLED IT!"
And the picture is of a screen for a water fountain. The options on the screen are ambient, hot, Black Cherry (partially cut off), and Grapefruit. In the top right of said screen is a large red window with an icon depicting a cloud with a line running through it, and the text "Reconnect Internet" underneath.
lmao my office has the same water dispensers
(they're actually super nice)
However I cannot understand why they have a QR code that you can scan to configure your dispense
i guess its a no contact option if you dont want to touch the screen that other people touch
So kinda like what they used to do way back when before they streamed to YouTube as well?
Iirc the reason they stopped doing that was because it was against yt guidelines, so idk if they'd be willing to do that
Tho tbf I think it was against the guidelines bc it was an announcement about streaming on another platform
They’ve talked before about how they signed their Twitch contract inside a very short window that allowed them to stream across different platforms in perpetuity, I don’t think YouTube will mind a short livestream simply pointing to a different YouTube channel
It’s kinda strange that they haven’t set up a WAN Show specific Twitch channel though as part of this little reshuffle
I’m only assuming they still want to do PC build streams during the odd week on the main channel across all the platforms
They've said why they haven't bothered to do it on twitch
And the reason is the vods are disabled, it doesn't matter, and they don't care about twitch
The twitch stream is just there for a handful of stubborn people
Imagine watching on twitch when you can watch it on YouTube and, like, pause. And go back in time. And have no ads.

Same but replace YouTube with Spotify for me. 😅 Granted, when I miss it live I listen to it as a podcast.

In a social media post today, Trump said he has "always been a big fan" of Cook. Oh my god, OpenAI reinvented Recall, but for macOS.
"Chronicle" is an opt-in feature that scans your screen, saves screenshots temporarily, and sends them to OpenAI's servers.

Just the thing I’ve been looking for
Recall was originally (circa 2016) a macOS app called Atlas Recall, funded by Microsoft
stg this whole shit could get recreated with oss tools. bolt a screenshot, ocr, searchengine tool + a small llm like gemma 4 e4b together and it can do that shit locally.
But then how would Microslop et al. get my precious ||💍|| data?
On copilot+ pcs, isn't recall doing that locally?
Time to let Mac users know not to install
It doesn't matter who gets the payment, it's all a scam.

<@&750150305383186585> scam
maybe it's just because I haven't joined any big servers until recently but it seems like scamming attempts have gone from once in a blue moon to at least once or twice every single day
especially in the LTT discord
Public DC channels are just way too easy to bot invade. I'm modding another relatively large server and I need to filter members with signals at least once a week (and that's apart from those who get auto-modded by the bot and the ones being reported by other members).
We usually have DM scam bots as a majority, but at the end of the day it's all just bots and/or infected/stolen accounts
it's gone up discord-wide recently
I'm in another server that uses warship (180k members) and the ones that get through warship are several a day (the four scam images thing)
I've heard from staff that there are plenty more that get caught by the filters
lol while I was speaking
Yeah, ours have a filter that's programmed by one of the mods, so it's doing a better than expected job, but it's still not 100%
Especially with the screenshot spams, that's so complicated to auto-mod
tbh I might make a bot that just auto mutes any person who sends more than one message with exactly four attachements within a 5 minute period
these seem like such lazy attempts at scamming in particular that I feel like the scammer puppeting those accounts is just trying to get them banned from popular servers for extortion purposes
Not good, cause then people have to “spam” images to send them
what? just send 3 or 5
Or don't send multiple messages with 4
plus I don't own any servers big enough that that's a concern atm
Ohh I read “more than 4” woups
couldn't you just blacklist the 4 images in question or is it different every time
These are photos, so there's enough variety that it won't work
plus they can change the urls pretty easily
That too
The rule AR mentioned is actually a decent solution
As long as the scammer/bot posts the same to multiple channels
Just need to make sure everyone knows about it tho
some servers solve this with a "honeypot" channel. any message in that channel is autoban
Look, it only deletes the messages I guess, won't auto-ban accounts
If your message gets removed, you can always ask. If the rule is added to server rules, it is a good reference
Fair. And users can always be unmuted manually
My point is that it wouldn't be irreversible necessarily, and I find that it's super hard or circumstantial to actually accidentally get caught in this
If I send multiple photos, I do it by reaching the maximum at a time (9), so it's unlikely that I'd end up sending 4 photos within a short period to multiple channels
(so like, you won't be sending 3x4 photos, rather 8+4 or 9+3)
Resisting the temptation to send a message would be difficult
You don't even need to track attachments. If anyone is sending messages in 3 different channels within 10 seconds, you can forward it to logs and mute them, waiting for the mods to review it.
This way you don't have to track anything for like 5 minutes. 10 seconds is fine. You could maybe exempt regular users from this.
I do wonder how many accounts this server has caught with the “Am bot pls kick” role
I was tempted, but I didn't actually want to get kicked lol
there is another server im in which also takes this approach, i do see message pings in that chat about every day.
i am not as active in the server but i have yet to see a scam pic there
‘Bout 500
Bots don’t spam onboarding options the way they used to
Bring back the good ol' bots, amirite?
I do recall a phase where bot accounts would just tick all the role boxes upon joining to seem legit, but that was years ago. More common now for legit accounts to be hijacked sadly
Even back then, many were compromised legit accounts
The fake accounts were mostly spamming advertisements, and were easily identified as they were created in batches
Linux’s Biggest Win Yet - WAN Show April 24, 2026
Thats weird.. the bot did the alert for WANShow, but hasn't for anything else in what, a week or so?
I'm still watching on the LTT channel because the new channel didn't show up as "live" in my feed until I searched for it. Also the clips are annoying.
Are the two pens the only items on discount? I tried adding 6 t shirts in cart but didn't see any discount.
Honestly if I played more PS games I'd love a portal
If I ever see one for dirt cheap on marketplace I might try my luck
IIRC someone was able to mod a portal to run emulators for psp and older
that was done in private and i think it's patched now
mod mat?
Looks like Lamborghini is upset about the Lambo shirt.
Not like he wasn't warned about it, and blew it off..
Clicking no through a few ms ads: Literally unusable
Pc won't boot after removing 2 hard drives and requires command line stuff that you need to look up online: perfectly fine and is a "learning experience"
Can we just agree that both are wrong at some level...
There's also a toggle to turn off suggestions and tips in the OS under system settings and then you'll stop receiving any "suggestions for features" except after major updates which is like once every year or 2 years.
The first one is Microsoft being shit
The 2nd one is a result of you installing an OS wrong
All OS's have their pros and cons.. nothing is perfect or intuitive for everyone.
Agreed
not going to refute the second point, but for the first: I paid for the product (included with the laptop cost) why should i have ads on a product i paid for?
also as for the second point, iirc in the wan show whoever it was (linus or luke, dont remember) had moved drives from one computer to the other? unless im getting different stories mixed up, and that in general can go bad if the right drivers are not installed or the hardware TPM is different or something that causes issues in the boot up sequence
Your laptop has stickers advertising the components inside. The back of it has a logo, advertising which company made the laptop.
Everything has ads. I also hate the ads on windows but what I want (and already have) is an option to turn it off. Non tech users might need these things to get to know about new features. I don't. So just give me a toggle to turn it off (which exists) and then I don't care about it after that
No no
Two drives died and they disconnected it but the os was still in its drive iirc
i think luke had mentioned needing to modify the /etc/fstab file, which is how linux knows what to mount and what not to mount at boot time, and if it fails to mount the boot stops, so changing drive configuration (or a drive failing to mount) would impact that. I personally have only encountered issues when modifying the /etc/fstab file, (which was to add a ntfs game drive that has since moved to inside my machine, permanently attached instead of a usb to sata adapter, and unplugging it would cause my pc to not boot as it couldnt find the drive)
where? i havent touched windows in like 3 months so if its a recent update i dont know about it. also i peel all the stickers off my laptop, its gone now. where is this ad turn off switch?
Yeah the explanation makes sense. I also use linux so I understand the "why" it happens but I don't simply hate on windows because it's cool to hate on them. There's clear reasons for me and I'm missing that on the wan show. It feels like hate for the sake of hating.
They haven't even acknowledged the new windows insiders things yet (haven't seen today's wan show fully but I will)
Inside notification settings, you can turn off "get tips and other recommendations when using windows"
I'm not on pc right now but I'll get back with the exact settings toggles and screenshots later. I've never had an ad, except once after a major update.
huh, interesting
Product logos and information ON THE PRODUCT are not ads
I also didnt like the inability to not use a microsoft account, its something i genuinely would like, or having the ability to remove onedrive by defaualt
Windows in it's default state is unusable for a tech guy. But spend like 30 minutes in settings and it is surprisingly usable
yes they are. a coca cola ad on a t shirt you buy is an ad. product placement is an ad
we aren't talking about apparel here
was trying to create an analogy of sorts. I bring my laptop to college, I talk about the specs and performance of my laptop with my friends, I have the HP Victus logo on my laptop because its built in to the plastic molds or whatever. it is somewhat featured in my public appearance, sort of like a t-shirt
They should really get rid of the account requirements. These are the things I hate windows for - the Microsoft pushed bs. Bitlocker should require this but other than that, please give us local account microsoft.
One drive imo is fine because you can turn it off. Some people nuked their system. But they got their important documents back through one drive. It's good for non tech users. I keep it turned off but use one drive separately.
Onedrive saving bitlocker keys has saved me twice now
Information is not ad. But beautiful stand out logos are ads.
Exactly
A new oobe should have a toggle asking about keeping things secure (bitlocker on or off). If you choose on, msft account should be forced. Bitlocker without ms account is not something you ever wanna use
yeah its moreso slightly annoying for me, I have alot of old files from when one of my old laptops was, without my knowledge, syncing to onedrive, so now if i setup a windows install, itl start syncing those old files. I should probably go and clear them out, but i dont use windows anymore so it doesnt matter.
I'm not sure of the specifics of the behaviour of onedrive in that scenario
But it should be fixed easily.
Also which distro are you using now?
I did an internship with my high school IT when i was in high school, and I almost figured out bypassing the oobe to only have local accounts. it was something that the IT dept didnt wanna set up, as everyone had google accounts (students and teachers got chromebooks, windows laptops were for certain situations where machinery like the 3d printers or cnc stuff needed specific software)
arch install, with base kde theme
i basically only use vs code, discord, steam, heroic
and im used to alt+tab
so kde works fine, and i like pacman
Bypassing oobe with local account is fine. I think even Rufus gives that option. But doing that with bitlocker on is a big no. It also doesn't enable the laptop management by the organisation so there's that.
That's cool
I currently have mint in my second drive. And my primary is windows 11 Beta. Joined 2 days back
yeah i was unsucessful in bypassing oobe, we just used a generic microsoft account and cloned the drive for the identical laptops
There's this autoattending thing that can do all those things for you ig
mint is something ive tried out, it was okay
i have mixed refresh rate displays, so X11 was a no for me
Here's the setting
also doing some app development where i have to interact with the window manager, and im only targeting wayland
Yeahh I'm not liking the desktop environment that much. But I'm not using linux at all so its fine.
I'll likely never switch from Windows on my main desktop.. I have a MBA and MacMini, and a htpc/steammachine running Bazzite..
Oh and a SteamDeck.. probably.. tomorrow I'll find out if its back in working order lol
one nice thing about linux is you can install more than one desktop at a time, so you can always experiment and try out other ones
I have a deck too, been playing ff7 and ff9 on it, its pretty nice
There's options to turn notifications off for every app individually, including one drive to prevent the notifications of that. There's also a (via xyz app) included in the name so that you can turn notifications on or off for individual apps from your phone appearing on the laptop. You can even further customise if you want it to appear as a banner or just stay in the side.
I've been living on Slay the Spire II, but sadly I dropped it.. broke the sholder and trigger.. and had a pre-existing issue with the power button that hopefully they could fix too..
Yep
I wish I had more reasons to use Linux though. I try out a lot of games, and also fly in the microsoft flight simulator. It's just way easier to use Windows for that.
And I never had the issues the others are complaining about online, so I'm so confused when someone complains about some of the issues they've been having on windows. My fair share of problems with them are finally being fixed now.
- Skip updates immediately during the out of box experience (OOBE)
- Extend update pauses as many times as you need
- Always-available options to shut down and restart without updating
- More insights on available updates so you can make more informed installation decisions
Also, loving the new xbox mode. Controlling the Lap with my Xbox controller has been really nice. The annoying white flash when opening file explorer has also been fixed. Now there's a lot more updates needed, related to the dog shit web apps that replaced the native apps. Other than that, Windows feels good to use if you spend 30 minutes in the settings after setting it up once.
step in the right direction, at least.
yeah the web apps also felt kinda yucky to me, the new start menu, the oobe, and some other stuff felt kinda slow/unresponsive, and i think the web app things might be a part of it.
I'm loving the new team. They're so active on Twitter. The new xbox team is also great. They're actually interacting with the fans and trying to get user feedback. There's a windows insider meetup in another city nearby (Hyderabad) but I have exams so I cannot go unfortunately. I was planning on going for it if the schedule worked for me.
as for the xbox mode thing, i just use steam big picture, or if i care about any potential perf improvements, I have an option when i log in to launch gamescope, basically what the steam deck does for its game mode on my computers.
They made their priorities clear: Ad revenue, Privacy invasion, Nudge psyops... at the cost of reliability, security, choice, management...
The new start menu is actually quite good. It moves the apps to the front page itself. You also have toggles for category view or list view or icon view.
It is in react though and they've said they are working on a resizeable start menu that is built entirely with Win UI, and also more customisable. that's actually why I joined the insiders so that I can get these things quicker
web apps are..... well they're dogshit
It's actually okay, but compared to native apps, it's dogshit.
Whatsapp desktop moved from a native app to web app and the difference is crazy
Reliability was never an issue imo but the other stuff, definitely. But right now it seems like they are moving in the right direction yk
I could make the case if you want
It is starting to feel exciting again. I used to be in the insiders when Windows 11 came out for the first time so that I could try out the new features first. Then came the era where the new features were only copilot stuff, and that made me leave it entirely.
Now I'm back because the new updates feel exciting again. It feels like msft has given a more free hand to the windows team to drop the "corporate talk" and actually care about the OS.
lol nah
If you want to, then sure do it
Windows powers homes, businesses and governments. They forced reinstalls of Win 10 every 6 months in all those places. They only let you delay updates even in corporate and government environments where it will break the software they use to do their jobs. They bundle all changes into one massive update instead of being able to opt-out of particular issue-causing updates. They injected hover-activated "news feeds" that couldn't be turned off by conventional, or extraordinary measures, because they would change and hide the settings on a monthly basis
... off the tip of my iceberg
One recent update erased all the shortcuts in the entire system, if you used their enterprise security tools...
Forcing security updates is fine if you don't do it for months on end.
They have quality control issues for sure.
Now widgets can be turned off btw. They'll only work with the shortcut for it and not any buttons.
They're not perfect and have a lot of issues, but my statement was that "windows updates are starting to get exciting again"
"Forcing... is fine if" is the problem
It's not fine, ever
The larger the reason to force, the more likely I am to agree, so no force is ever needed
If you never even force security updates, no one will update. If some issue then occurs, people will again complain about windows not being secure enough.
Well that isn't how the world worked for 30 years before they forced it
people will update, people do genuinely care about security. some might not and imo thats their fault
In 2002 when they committed to the Trustworthy Computing Initiative, they learned the lesson of making Windows secure. They also preserved choice because it's operationally necessary.
Yeah but then they'll blame windows for not being secure enough, because some random youtuber told them "updates bad"
The real issue is that Microsoft forgot what business they're in. They are in the business of writing software, and some hosting. Not being a media conglomerate. Not being security taste makers. Not managing the world's desktops because we are too stupid, inept, or rebellious.
Even though I think security updates should be forced, they've now brought back the ability to pause it forever soo there's that
I support making automated patching effective and opt-in by default which should address 100% of your concerns for "force"
However, the tooling (like 20 years of WSUS) needs to be available for choices in more managed environments
Microsoft being in that business is fine, but treat windows also as an important business that needs independence from the other things
They already failed to keep the wall between the Bing Ads team and Windows Core. The house fell.
also even forced updates isnt enough to get people to update. one of my friends was on win 11 21h2, and didnt realize he wasnt fully updated until a game he wanted to play had a weird bug due to it being out of date. windows wasnt even letting him know it was out of date, win update was saying he was up to date. when he did update, the only difference he noticed was copilot lol
yeah, not having the updater working is something I run into in environments more often than I'd like to see
That's strange
The copilot enshittifying was the worst phase of windows 11. Add proper buttons instead of the ugly copilot button everywhere....
Not everything is copilot
Widgets and News Feeds was far worse than Copilot, but Recall was invasive
copilot is also generally something i dont like, I in general dont like AI stuff, and when I do try it out i usually make sure to try out models where the dataset is open and known as its something i care about
We tried to block Copilot in an environment that handles financial information for loans, and their solution was to override Microsoft's public DNS
it never impressed me really, i dont get like any of the hype
The idea they neglect Group Policy, while MDM OMA can't replicate the results, and teams like Copilot are telling us to use our DNS servers to block their crap... are just baldfaced hostility to choice.
Recall is opt in. Don't use it if you don't want to...
You have to manually enable it for it to work
It's off by default
as of now, but not when they released it, and only because of backlash
you work for their marketing dept or what
Maybe
I'm not sure about that. They screwed up big time with the ai enshittification.
It's like when McDonald's lobbied to increase the maximum bone content of ground-beef from 5% to 10%
it should be 0% bone
I wish I worked for a big company but no
I just like windows. I hated their direction till now but now it seems cool again. I also use linux sometimes and I like the direction linux is also heading in, trying to be more user friendly.
What I hate, is blind hatred of both
Bold of you to assume somebody would "blindly hate" an OS
waking up from a cold sweat nightmare AHAHHHH FUCK MACOS
People blindly hate everything now
DLSS5 is an example. Instead of seeing how it works, people were issuing death threats to people that supported it ... The hate on the internet is at crazy levels
That isn't how people work
For the next wan show:
Flying is cheaper than renting in Vancouver:
my guy is gonna have insnae sqs on aeroplan
if he does 7 flight per month (assuming no summer courses) he can probably get 50k status lol
im 90% sure they talked about this when the story came out lol
Google Chrome and other browsers finally added a long-awaited security feature.
Google Chrome and other chromium-based browsers such as Edge, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi etc just got an important security upgrade. It's called "Device Bound Session Credentials", but don't let the technical terms scare you. Basically the idea is malware can no longer s...
(It helps prevent the session hijacking thing that happened to LTT)
Also just some more good news for good news month too
You're talking like someone who frequently gets cheated on but after he buys you the crappiest flower (or literally just picks it for free from a bush outside school, as we saw happen) you immediately think he's changed.
new joiners glazing Microslop for improving just doesn't seem like a real person imo
<@&750150305383186585> scam in all channels

Fuck no they haven't changed that much
But as someone who was part of the windows insider team during the Covid era, when windows 11 first came out, it feels nice to finally get some good features that are not "copilot" or "exclusively for copilot+pc" or even anything related to AI at all
You're talking like someone who frequently gets cheated on but after he buys you the crappiest flower (or literally just picks it for free from a bush outside school, as we saw happen) you immediately think he's changed.

Well then it's a good thing a Desktop Operating System is not the same as a fkin Relationship.....
Called it
Now get disproportionately emotional about your favorite OS. Make it personal. Get offended. Really drive it into us how great it is. Ask us if we want to use it but decide before you ask what’s good for us. :palaptine: DO IT
I don't get why it is either "hate them with all your heart" or "fake person".
You can, in fact, appreciate something getting somewhat better and find it to be suitable for your everyday needs/use without being a tool. You can also express that appreciation just to be positive. We don't all must be cynical and disappointed human beings, even here on the LTT Discord.
Are you hearing opposing views about something for the first time in your life?
Fyi I myself have recommended people various linux distros and helped people with installing various distros. So this is very very stupid. I've used Ubuntu(and other distros) for the past 10 years, along with Windows xp, 7, 8.1, 10 and 11. If I choose to make some argument regarding windows OS in a discord server about a tech youtube channel, that's my wish and it is entirely up to you to ignore it or reply with why you don't think the same as me.
It is fine for you to have a differing opinion from mine, but that doesn't mean I'm wrong and you're right. It just means our interests are different and we prefer different aspects of operating systems.
Very judgemental.
Some of us have worked with these systems for decades and have deep expertise, and when we tell you it’s a problem with the main OS of humanity’s productivity you should probably listen
Think what you want, try to base it in reality.
Yes, you are, indeed, very judgemental. Thank you for admitting.
Silly girl.
Overly condescending and sexist man.
If you don’t want to be called silly, don’t say silly things
If you don't want to be called cynical, condescending, disappointed and sexist, you can also stop being all those things
So, right back at you bud
I will just say, I had very similar experiences back when Windows 10 came out and I decided that it was the first iteration of a Windows system, that gave me the flexibility of Ubuntu, so I started prioritising my laptop with Win10 to the one with Ubuntu (and I haven't used Linux privately since).
It allowed me to do what and how I wanted to do, without having to micromanage the whole system, and I could finally run games and software that was at the time incompatible with Linux. Apparently this was not a popular opinion, but guess what, I still used Windows since. So yeah, my friend, being positive and finding stuff working out for you is more power to you. Glad that you are having a good time these days. High five!
Well, yeah
Linux is also really amazing, don't get me wrong. I think it has great potential and Windows having competition is good. But I'm not going to blindly hate something that just works for me, just because of some issues, which are easily fixed.
I also think that the hate on the internet is going too overboard for everything. There was this youtuber who spoke positive about DLSS5 and he started getting death threats. So people should be allowed to voice their opinions in a way that they don't get death threats and for that the hate should reduce.
It's fine to have different opinions on something. And since I've been so excited about Windows since I was a kid, I am voicing my opinion that it feels exciting again now that a lot of these issues are being fixed. I don't see how that is controversial or hard to understand at all.
There's nothing controversial in your opinion, especially since it comes from a place of how it does, in fact, work for you. What works for your situation is the best for you, this should never be controversial or offensive for others.
Some people hold their own opinion on a pedestal and expect it to be absolute. If they feel even the smallest threat that someone might disagree with them, their fragile ego can't take it and they go to extremes to defend it. Which is quite immature and sad, since opposing opinions should not be threatening to anyone. If I was an iOS fanboy, I could still accept another person using idk DOS or something. I did very much enjoy Ubuntu back then (and I had strong opinions about the bits that were absolutely terrible), and I was also very happy once I had a viable Windows system again, after XP got phased out. But in my work, I do heavily prefer working within an iOS infrastructure, since enterprise software and security works with iOS so.damn.well. But my main work profile (MES) is Windows-only, and is a pain to set-up anywhere else. So yeah, I have a very good idea why any person would prefer one OS over another, and I don't feel the need to be a jerk about someone else's opinion lol.
To quote Linus "I'm over it"
she will never be as good as templeos!!!!!!
mad respect and also 'maybe you should talk to someone' to anyone daily driving msdos on their smartphone
Being disproportionately emotional about one's favorite OS sounds like Linux users tbh
I would say it's a really small section of linux users. Most of them are nice and aren't 'toxic online. It's the vocal minority that is ruining the community.
Such ruined. So wow. Bing me bb.
Bing PR team right now
Oh btw, the one feature I really wish was back is the custom placing of the ribbon. I've been using it on the right side of the screen for over 10 years (plus about 5 years before that on the left bc of Ubuntu), and it really throws me off to be stuck on the bottom. That little thing has made me emotional
There's an unconventional fix for it (which sometimes also breaks explorer.exe and forces it into an eternal loop lol), so I wish I could just customise it officially.
the taskbar?
Yeahh they're now finally bringing that ability back. We can see that in a few months ig
Oh, did they write about it? Sounds great. I was sceptical so far, as during an early update they explicitly said that they aren't working on this feature, as it affects so few people.
Yeah
It's like the priority thing right now. Some insiders also have it working in their builds, but not perfectly yet.
Oh nice! Tbh I'm enrolled in Insiders, but I only got the special updates on my old laptop with Win10 (the new one was deliberately not set up for 11, since it has some cumbersome software I prefer not to have to reinstall, in case pilot updates go BOOM). But hey man, you just made my day ❤️
it's getting smaller too, is one thing i've noticed over the last few years
or at least there's just so many more people coming to linux from a more casual place
There's a lot of people installing linux for sure. But the number of users they are retaining has to be checked.
And linux users would install multiple distros before settling for one. So how is linux calculating number of active users.
The toxic fans however have increased is my observation.
Minsysreq prevents me from using insiders 😩
My office grade desktop doesn’t meet them
For reference, I’m running an amd firepro w4100 as my GPU
Yeah, I got an ASUS ROG Strix SCAR with a 5070Ti, so I'm definitely qualified on hardware level lol. I just really don't have the energy to deal with possible bugfixes or bad updates (these aren't super common, but they do happen) that comes from early release. Instead, I'm running pilot versions on a few software separately (like DC and Steam), since if these bug out on one platform, they can always be accessed from elsewhere (plus neither of them are really essential for day to day).
I'm still getting the Insiders newsletter regardless, since my old laptop is still enrolled
linux isn't, but third party services like steam and google analytics are
But the number of people that use steam is like pretty less. It cannot show the "active linux users".
I haven't seen a lot of details about Google analytics tracking how many active linux users there are. I'll have to check more details about that.
steam will give a pretty good idea of how many gamers are using linux, and that's a metric i care a bit more about
Is Steam getting the data automatically or do you have to manually allow it to be shared?
it asks you every three months or you can opt out permanently
Yeah
so do you think Windows gamers would be more likely to announce to the world they are using windows or do you think Linux gamers would be more likely to announce that they are using Linux (obv the latter)?
And on Windows, you also have a lot of other options to download and play games without issues, while on Linux, it is easier to use Steam for better compatibility.
So you are not really measuring the number of Gamers, Steam survey is measuring the number of people on Linux that play games on Steam, who are also willing to do additional clicks to contribute to something called "Steam Hardware Survey", which most people who are just casual gamers and just want to click play and get into the game, will most likely ignore.
So it isn't really a good metric by any means
I use steam for like one game, but that also I open through the XBOX app instead of going through Steam. So it probably wouldn't count me as a Windows user despite me using it. So that's why I would like to see some analytics that isn't opt-in.
That is the only thing that can give a realistic picture
You could say the same about windows users though... Unless you've got stats on how many people accept or decline the survey, it's "not a good metric by any means" regardless of the operating system...
For Windows, Microsoft collects a lot of data so you have a pretty good idea of how many users there are.
Let's say you are a gamer on windows, but you dont use steam at all. that immediately excludes you from the survey.
If you are using linux for gaming, you have enough technical knowledge to know what a hardware survey is and you will also be really happy to show the fact that you got windows games running on Linux. A windows user, who is unhappy with the stuff microsoft has been doing lately is less likely to participate in that.
Steam users who use linux is definitely increasing, but that is not a realistic metric for "Gamers" in general, nor for Linux users in general.
Right so we're back to the whole Linux would need a way of collecting metrics. Also, Microsoft's metrics for number of Windows users are skewed due to the sheer number of people who disable telemetry, so... 🤷
The number of people that disable telemetry is very miniscule. There's a lot of people that use windows without even opening the settings app.
They can also go by the number of Microsoft account users who signed up from windows 11.
A lot of stuff exists through which they can get an almost accurate number. The number of people that disable telemetry is very very small compared to the rest of the userbase
Is it though? How do we know that? If they've disabled telemetry and use local accounts, it's impossible for Microsoft to know this... Plus, number of Microsoft accounts does not equal the number of people running Windows.
Even if you have local accounts, you will still be getting Windows updates.
Number of microsoft accounts, which signed up using windows 11 gives almost the entire data. The remaining data can be found using other means.
Windows collects way too much telemetry. They know approximately how many users are running Windows 11, with a lot more accuracy than Linux users can predict.
Not if you also disable Windows update as part of telemetry being disabled. 😉 Point is, no metrics are reliable unless they truthfully measure everything, and then on top of that, companies must NEVER cherry pick the data. Ever. For any reason.
Goodhart's law is an adage that has been stated as, "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure". It is named after British economist Charles Goodhart, who is credited with expressing the core idea of the adage in a 1975 article on monetary policy in the United Kingdom:
Any observed statistical regularity will tend to colla...
The number of users that do that is not significant enough to affect the overall statistics.
My original point is that steam hardware is not reliable enough to understand how much Linux usage has increased.
given how many people microsoft succeeded dark patterning into edge i wouldn't be so certain, plus linux users tend to care more about privacy
either way i'm not here to argue that the figure the steam hardware survey gives you on os usage isn't accurate, but the marked increase in recent years didn't come from nowhere
And at the very least, it can accurately provide a percent increase in the demographic of Linux users it does measure, which can be extrapolated as necessary. It's still not as good as solid metrics, but it's better than guessing at nothing.
Honestly, I'm a bit surprised Steam even really let it look like there was an increase. I mean since they clearly have control over the results, I would have made it look like there wasn't a snowball starting until the snowball was already unstopable.
It also fluctuates a lot so there could be sampling errors.
But yes there is a rise of steam users using linux and that cannot be ignored.
It's better than nothing for sure
All I'll add is I know more people with computers running Windows with Telemetry Disabled than Linux.. so if you say that number is so small as to not matter, gotta wonder the same.. In any case ya as others have said, Steam Hardware Survey isn't perfect but its available.
GoDaddy pulled this bullshit on me once too. My personal domain, which I had registered with them a little less than 20 years before and never moved out of simple inertia, vanished one day from my account. No warning, no notice, no nothing. I contacted customer support and was told that it had been transferred to someone else (!).
After several days of ferocious arguments with their customer support, the domain quietly and mysteriously appeared back in my account. Again, no notice, no apology.
That was the kick in the pants I needed to move my truly ancient domains off GoDaddy for good

This is pretty cool. Apple's old Time Capsule devices run NetBSD, so in anticipation of their deprecation of AFP in the next version of macOS this guy got samba 4 running on it
Apple’s killing off support for its own Time Capsule devices in macOS 27, supposedly - never owned a last-gen Time Capsule because I replaced my dead previous-gen one with a NAS waaaaaay back in 2012
I do wish they’d regulate the cable labelling next https://ec.social-network.europa.eu/@EUCommission/116482863009887383
Starting today, USB-C is the mandatory charging standard for all laptops sold in the EU.

I want to say I'm shocked that they actually published that second tweet (or whatever they called on there), but that's just pure stupidity at this point.
I'm not going to comment on the AI aspect, because people with more knowledge and skin in the game can say how terrible that part is, but I'm not even a PR expert and know posting that second message is incompetent at best. Well that or trolling Blender themselves

lol, i just wanna be able to buy dji drones
and not pay couple extra grands for something that is less advanced
Or they will just state the honest and obvious reason.. People are idiots and often use drones in ways they shouldn't or are unsafe.. Its FAR easier to just say No Drones than it is to micromange every infraction..
A good example would be all the cities that man motorcycles in China.. not that they can't have laws to use them safely, they do, they just can't be bothered with the headache..
Not saying its the right way, but its consistent for China.

this is your cutoff to get those Polypmarket/ Kashi bets in on how late the WAN Show is going to be
The new run command
MS wants to improve run (and cmd/powershell) they should add something to see if you're pasting some of that crap from those cloudflair fishing sites..
I hate to ask MS to include more AI stuff in their OS, but this is a place where AI is actually gonna be useful to detect if anyone is trying to run anything that could be used for malicious purposes (but allow power users to turn that checking off)
After that online check, then the command can be given the go ahead if it is considered safe. Otherwise, a new popup saying "This is a malicious command and performs xyz action."
Also, these new updates feel like they're good QOL updates for the OS. Till last month, every update used to be related to "You can use copilot in this manner." and "We added this feature to copilot". That has reduced significantly now thankfully

This video reeks of AI generated script, that has been created just to jump on the Hype train of Windows hate.
Yeah, but apparently if you don't hate Windows, you're a silly girl

windows has been paid longer than i've been alive lmao
but if anything that's become less true over the years as microsoft has cared less about actually getting the money and more about showing you ads and nagging you to use bing

yeah the video is charitably described as clickbait ai slop
Don't care, don't share AI slop videos in here
its certainly interesting to think about how consumers might be less inclined to purchase a laptop with windows if they have to press a button that says +$100
i'm really curious how a pre-installed linux distro goes for consumers as well
IMO 90% of the people that would click the Linux diestro are just doing it to install Windows on it as soon as it comes in. Either they're buying for a place with a legit volume license, have a legit retail license they want to re-use or want to save money by activating without a legitimate license via grey market or simply plugging in keys from old machines until something works. Oh - I suppose they could also just simply be OK with the watermark.
the thing is ™ microsoft doesn't charge OEMs the same rate they charge for a retail key. One would assume* that actual OEMs pay an even lower rate than you see resold keys going for on the open market.
so that "skip windows" option would probably cost.... $20 less? if that?
You can just choose no OS tho...
So that logic falls apart
With the exception of only the build it yourself version of the framework, I can't recall such an option. Even the pre-built framework does not ship without OS preinstalled. You must choose Windows or Ubuntu. It's why Ubuntu has such a high selection rate. There isn't a 'none'.
also worth noting they don't offer windows home edition (at least in new zealand on the 13 pro)
The pro is just pro only
so even if you fully intend to pay full price for a genuine key direct from microsoft you're saving money
13 normal is pro only and 16 only offers home on certain configurations (weirdly not the lowest priced one)
but yeah if i was buying a laptop and windows being preinstalled came at a $400 premium you bet your ass i'm picking the ubuntu version and just installing windows on it myself
Isn't it easier to get a pc with an os so that you can make sure everything works without waiting for hours to install. You can also make a USB installation through it if you don't have one already.
Hours? I mean if you include the time to create the install media itself maybe but a decent thumb drive and an SSD reduces a Windows install to like 15 minutes.
It takes some time. I would prefer having a laptop work right out of the bat.
If I'm buying framework, I would get the ubuntu version, test it to see if the hardware works, and then install the os I want. Getting a no os version even ubuntu doesn't cost anything is not something I see a lot of people doing
@crude sandal ill consider myself slapped.

I don’t think it’s so much a scam as much as it is people operating off 5-year-old information

Who still uses Edge in <current year> https://proton.me/business/blog/microsoft-edge-passwords-exposed
they're at like 40% market share or something crazy
I'm one.. its a perfectly fine (above issue aside) chromioum browser that still support manifest v2
Theres no defending this.. though at least I'm safe.. I think? I save my passwords in a manager, and decline to save them in the browser itself..
then yeah you're fine
I mean I'm sure a couple are in there.. at some point it must have imported from IE and probably Chrome back in the day.. but nothing important or current..
Lots of people use Edge
All corporate people like myself have to use edge to open PDF and stuff because of the confidential settings and stuff.
Lots of people. We use it at work because we're a Microsoft 365 shop so it's the browser we officially support for our M365 users.
Tbh if any malware has access to your system in this manner, then you have many bigger problems to worry about
Every other browser password manager (apart from 3rd party ones) also does the same. Chrome decrypts it when needed but that's still in plain text so if anyone has access to it they can read it directly. The key is also available in a similar manner I think.
yeah it's really not that big of a deal, yes, it's not ideal, but it could be much worse
No excuse for that level of security, but at the same time, to take advantage of it, you have bigger issues :p
Honestly I would have assumed this password stuff would be handed at the chromium level?
I think all chromium browsers handle this in a similar manner. Edge just decrypts them at startup. You'll still need some sort of access to the system to access it.
Google Chrome encrypts it iirc but the key to decrypt it is stored normally itself (is what I understand). It doesn't make a difference honestly.
If someone has that kind of access to your system in the first place, you have bigger things to worry about.

I'm surprised they're not going to talk about Chrome downloading AI models on people's computers
also the Digg site is back up and it's some AI hot mess, i wonder if they'll talk about it
probably it'll be on the quick bits of tech news
linus is in connecticut
I swear they talked about it way back
Cause that topic sounds familiar
Since Linus is asking, counter arguement pre-sales.. I don't WANT to have to sit on the LTT Cable page hitting refresh in hopes I Happen to be on a day they get restocked and I happen to get the order in in time. Being able to order now and then know once its available it'll head my way is a VERY nice thing. I get there were issues with when you ran it with the Cables at launch, but to be blunt, the website was not clear. It was a small line of text on a page that is the same as the normal order page. It could have been a lot clearer.. Sure some people still wouldn't get it, but a more clear interface/ordering page Specificlly for pre-orders would be a nice system.. or even a system like Valve is doing for the Steam Controller.. put your name in, when available you get a mail to complete the purchase then within a couple of days.. no rushing to beat other people.

About xbox helix:
It's biggest selling point is that it can be used for playing PC Games, XBOX Games, and can be used as a console in the living room, and as a desktop PC (if the windows mode actually does end up shipping)
[This is my understanding based on all that has been said about this, and also from the leaks]
Soo if anyone has a steam account, they'll go for the helix if it's comparable in price to the steam machine, since they can also play xbox games and xbox console games in addition to their existing steam library.
The PS5 market is gone for Xbox. They messed up with their "This is an xbox". Xbox can't get that back. But they can get the xbox - pc market if they do it well in hardware.
Anything else from exclusive games is a bonus. Everything depends on the price of the console.
basically a direct competitor to steam machine
assuming you can also install whatever os you want on helix
if not it will still be a direct competitor to steam machine for most people
no they wouldn't let you do that
they might be jailbreakable though
Even Windows only it still has potential.. but atm just potential.. its up to MS to both get a price right, and make the whole system not feel cludgy.. but at least MS seems to be wanting to try and address that.. time will tell if they do.
No
You can play xbox console games on it
You can do that probably but then the xbox console portion of it might get ruined
Xbox helix is "xbox pc games + xbox console games + any other launcher games"
This is my understanding
I mean at this point how many games are xbox exclusive anymore that don't already get ported to PC at launch/soon after?
Well, the helix release is 2 years away ig?
And it's not just xbox exclusive games. Some games are console exclusive for a year or two incl both PS5 and xbox.
If anyone is deciding between PlayStation and xbox, this added benefit of being able to play their existing steam games directly in this would be attractive for them.
If anyone is thinking of buying a pre built gaming PC, this then can be used as both a pc and a console...
(Assuming the windows mode part is true windows and not locked down in any manner)
Come to think of it that's kinda sick
If Microsoft allows non locked down os it can probably be really successful
Basically officially sanctioned jailbreak ps5 but xbox
forza motorsport, halo 5 (ew), other than that, probably backwards compatible games like older gears of war
I don't think forza counts since it's on pc (the newest one that is now dead anyways)
Yep
They keep talking about other launchers. They know they've lost a lot of ground to steam.
If they need to stop losing their share to steam os, they need to have a hybrid console that can do both.
For games like gta 6, that are releasing on console first, imagine if helix can do that, but then also switch to play the steam PC games.
specifically talking about forza motorsport, not horizons
motorsport plays more like grand turismo or a nascar game or something, no free roam or anything like that
If Xbox could let me use my steam library, I’ll buy it.
Basically I either the steam machine or something that does the same thing
Reportedly that's what it does. Even now the xbox app and xbox mode let's you play steam games in it. There is a slight performance improvement in it.
You're confusing a mode on windows with the actual xbox
The console will have a windows mode and xbox console mode is what I understand. The windows mode, if not locked down, will be able to run steam games.

I'm pretty sure FM8 is on pc
And I think even both 6 and 7 are playable via mstore(?)
Nvm 6 was demo
But FM7 is on pc
I hope that works as reported and i can get a cheap base model

bruh, couldve just used generic stock image number 69420
Am I the only one who is focused on the specs of the tv over the box?
💯, though i also don’t blame someone for being upset about their image being used without permission.
Totally agreed, I do photography and I completely understand
I mean, I'd rather have my head in the box than outside the box
So sad there's no GIF of Dara's box head somehow getting sadder during that task

Depends on what the police say.
The new Forza game runs like ass on 8GB GPUS
You know, the amount of Vram that AMD and Nvidia been saying is enough for gamers
The amont of ram that GPUs were coming out with a decade ago
The GTX 1070 had 8GB, and the RX480 had 8GB variant.
They should really consider moving the WAN show to Wednesdays, then we could call it WAN's day and it would finally be written as it is pronounced
what glasses are those
I mean 8gb ram is barely the minimum to run AAA games now
We need to bully people that wear them, like how we bullied people that wore google glass
I actually tried those google glasses in person ages ago.
i mean they look like actual glasses
it seems like a drawback if you're an actual glasses wearer though
they talked about the meta glasses
and apparently microsoft is making windows 11 faster
linus likes them, he showed a POV video of him playing badminton
sorry stoned as hell rn haha
well microsoft got ragged for implementing prioritization features that have been in macOS and phones for years
Ahhh
I don't understand why they design them to look like regular glasses when all it's going to do is cause a public crisis that causes laws to be passed that mandate that they be designed so that they're obvious to onlookers
google glass was goofy but they're the final form of this kind of stuff, any other form factor would lead to millions of lawsuits
well they do have a recording LED
the standard will be "can someone who isn't paying super close attention recognize what you're doing from a good distance away." a tiny little light that barely stays lit isn't going to cut it. at a bare minimum it's going to have to be a unit that's clearly mounted outside the frame so onlookers know at first glance it's not just a regular pair of glasses
it's not a good sign for meta when half the videos on youtube for these glasses are about how easy it is to cover up the LED
It came up on Twitch Chat, and I'll say it here incase it passes the eyes of some LMG Staff... Next time Linus (or any of the on-screen talent.. Luke, Elijah, RILEY?) is in Texas, he should hit up Alveus..
uh, what are these dudes spilling on their desk
How about they give us a setting to go back to this layout
That would be nice.
And then never mess with the god damn start menu again because my god it is why everyone hated 8 how did they not learn this lesson the first time STOP PUTTING YOUR HAND INTO THE FIRE
The current one is a different form of this
You have pinned apps at the top
All apps as you scroll
And then the particular settings can be added as icons next to the power options menu
This time it's a good thing. They're making it entirely win ui and providing more customisation options.
No, current one has pinned apps, then some stupid section called "Recommended"
No
It can be turned off
Just give me back the old one and enver touch it again it is that simple
The new one with recommended off is good though...
No it's not that entire right menu is not there
It's there as icons next to power menu that you can setup.
You can add user folders, downloads, documents, settings, etc as icons which is similar to what the right panel in win 7 did.
The pinned apps also appear as pinned icons. Turn off recommendations and then you have a grid/ list of all apps at the bottom essentially doing what "all programs" does
No, still not enough. I had to spend $5 to get Startallback because Microslop are idiots.
What other features do you need
It's not about features, it's about how it's laid out
There is too much dead space in the Win11 start menu
What's the problem with how it's laid out?
Try using the existing start menu in the latest update, go to start settings and customise it to your liking, and then decide on your opinion.
Those icons are too damn far apart, and that thing is too damn big
Just make collapsable menus
Turn off recommended section
The bottom section should be changed to grid.
It's not my screenshot, I just got it off google
I'm on Linux now because I hate Win11
Yeah... Do it in your system and then see.
Alright so you are criticising a feature of windows as unusable despite you not trying it out at all?
Great
I'm critisizing it cause it's a reason that drove me to leave Windows
And after that shitty start menu, they released a new update a few months ago that made the start menu so much better
The first one was so bad. You couldn't remove the recommended section. The all apps section was a button in the top right. That sucked.
The new one is good. Upcoming one adds more customisation options like larger and smaller menu
It's not as good as kde in terms of customisation but it's not like the start menu is bad. It looks good and is very usable and functional with some good customisation.
the win11 start menu design wise is fine, its just the implementation is bad with it basically being a web app iirc
The recommended section is using react. Nothing is using webview in the start menu
The epitome of Linux Redditor
Open-shell is among the first 10 things I'll install when setting up a new windows install, among software that'll block updates and remove all the trash microslop ships with windows.
Having been forced into a new install recently (my SSD died... 😭), fuck me it takes fucking long to get a new windows install back to a decent place where I can do what I have to do on my PC without windows being a fucking nightmare to use
Just install the updates after it's been out for a few weeks. It ain't that bad-
Anyways they're bringing the option to turn it off indefinitely.
What other trash do you turn off?
This is what I do. Rather, I let Windows decide when to download and install updates, but I choose when to "Restart and finish installing updates." That way I am ready to stay up to date, but also reason to say "nope" if I catch wind of problems others experience.
If the toggle to receive latest features asap is turned off, the updates are installed a few days after it's released. If there's any major problems then the updates are pulled. So it isn't an issue imo.
But also, Win11 does more aggressive force restart, so restarting after updates cannot be postponed as long as with Win10
That's usually after 2 months of not updating if I'm not wrong
It gives plenty reminders and does it automatically outside of active hours (with a 15 minute warning) if that option is enabled.
For me, every automatic updates are always disabled (and active hours are set pretty much 24/7), but my husband's Framework updates on its own anyway and often randomly restarts. It's definitely not 2 months after the restart icon appears, more like a couple of weeks at most. We usually only find it out in the morning when it's starting up from scratch.
Windows 10 was definitely stretching to 2 months or sometimes even more but not Win11. Same happens with his PC. My laptop is irrelevant, since it's more often turned off than on, so it's updating nearly every time it's on and I just install stuff before turning it off.
I just manually update a few days after update Tuesday.. I don’t see the appeal in just ignoring updates. I of course get the computer shouldn’t just reboot in its own and all, but personally it doesn’t bother me cause I’m already on the ball.
Oh I actually am not bothered, it was really just a note on Kirashi's comment; that postponing restarting indefinitely (or at least at length) isn't as doable anymore on Win11 as it was on Win10.
There's a setting for that in windows update settings. Automatically restart during inactive time. If that's on, it would do that.
It's not on. As I said above, everything that can delay restart is on, but the devices still restart within about 2 weeks from the update regardless of settings. There are no inactive hours on the system level (as I've mentioned, it's pretty much marked manually as active 24hrs a day). And it's not that big of a deal. My whole point was to note, that as opposed to Win10, Win11 will wait less before it goes into update finalising mode, when everything is set exactly the same way as it was on Win10. When updates/restart could be delayed for that 2 months period. I think I even had push-messages before to save my work so that the PC can restart in 5 minutes or something. But it's not a big deal, it's just what I am experiencing. I think neither his PC or his laptop are having a Windows account set (only a local account), so this might be related to local accounts, but either way, this is how it is.

Jellyfin is better anyway
That price increase is insane, but at the same time, they are giving over a month notice to allow anyone to purchase it at the current price.
Vs the monthly it’s not an insane price.. the jump is, but at the same time Plex Lifetime was always fairly cheap for what it offered.. forever.. plus by now they don’t need the upfront cash of lifetimes, they need the stable revenue of monthly..
With that said I would have paced out the process increase myself.. but there’s something to be said about being upfront about it, and giving everyone their warning to get it now
For 750 freedom coins you can just buy a pretty decently specced computer that you carry with you e everywhere
i’m glad jellyfin covers all my use cases
To be fair what it won’t cover is the 40 or so TB or storage that’s on my Plex Server..
only 40? That's cute
Though I got Plex, and the life sub for convince.. it doesn’t do much special but all together at once was worth the price at the time for me
Oh I know people have more :p
I wish I had more lol
can it even be called a library if it fits on two drives
Well my array is 8, with 2 parity.. cause remember, RAID is a backup! /s
they should at least get credit for keeping the lifetime pass available and not jumping to subscription only
clip studio paint only has perpetual licenses for PC, not for mobile or ipad, and most other software is even worse
I would rather drastically overpay for something that I only ever use once or twice but don't have to pay for again than pay a pocket-change monthly subscription for something that I use every day
I do agree.. as much as I might not always agree with, or like, lifetime prices.. I will always give bonus points to any company that at least has the option vs just subscriptions.

Nine months after delivery was originally promised, NBC News received one of the first Trump Mobile review units and tested the device.
The phone comes preloaded with Truth Social, features an American flag on the back with 11 stripes, and the box reads: “Proudly Assembled in the USA.”
-# We tested the Trump Mobile phone. It was 9 months late and no longer ‘Made in the USA.’
The phone comes pre-loaded with Truth Social and bears an American flag on the back with 11 stripes.
They started production pre-Georgia and pre-Carolina split
Also, technically speaking, there were more than 13 colonies, so the tweet is as wrong as the flag itself (both the one on the phone and the actual flag)

Today someone (who is not on Mastodon) released a collection of more than 570 distinct operating systems, pre-installed with VM configurations for the 250+ different platforms, going back all the way to 1948.
Now, I have to admit I'm posting this without trying it myself, as I'm running low on disk space on this machine.
Because the full download is 121GB (174GB unzipped!). There is also a lighter version at 14GB that will download stuff on demand.

I just like seeing how computers evolved. Its really interesting esp the 80-90s
I think this is stupid.
Cause if the CRTC is just using that money to prop up Legacy media like cable, completely stupid.
But if it's funding for the CRTC itself then maybe it's okay?
But it also depends on how that money is spent;
If that money is spent on consumer advocacy. Then great! No complaints from me.
If that money is spent on promoting "Canadian values". Then I don't want it, like at all. In fact I hate it, cause that means that money would just get passed onto us, the consumers with the only benefit being Vanity.
At least if that money gets spent on consumer advocacy, better outcomes would be made for the consumer rather than just vanity.
The unfortunate likely scenario is that the money would just get spent into vanity projects that end up promoting multiculturalism and Canadian values.
Idc about either, I'm not even against the idea of the CRTC taking 15% (which just means it would get passed on to us), as long as that 15% gets used as a consumer advocacy fund.
However if it was exclusively going to a consumer advocacy fund, It wouldn't need to be 15% anyways.
Your being taxed for enjoying entertainment. How dare you
you normally pay sales tax when going to the theatre or buying an album
This is on top of sales tax, cause it's already taxed
I understand that this is a joke.
But its already being taxed, this is just more taxes???😭
a quick google search shows you already pay Total Combined Taxes (Direct + Indirect + Hidden) over 43.0%. A minor 15% in your subscription costs, You wouldn't feel it
You can always go sailing on the seven seas and evade not only the tax but the cost of the shitty streaming service
If you really want to suss out what's happening, this is basically a tariff where money is also funneled to a favoured, politically connected industry
And I say this as a Canadian.

Just went to listen to the wan show via podcast as I normally do, sound quality was atrocious. Anyone else find this? YouTube vids are fine and all my other podcasts are fine even older wan shows??. I even deleted the download and redid it again, same deal.
Theres a new WAN SHOW Youtube channel [The old Clips channel]
Check that out
Both YouTube channels are fine, also YouTube music. I usually listen via pocketcasts which I presume is from RRS feed. Usually it's great. This week it was not. Just wondering what had happened, perhaps someone at LTT wants to know.
Oh wait you mean via podcast? I misread what you wrote, sorry
You can subscribe to it via the YouTube RSS feed on podcast apps, and I think (I'm very much unsure tho) it downloads/streams the audio from yt itself so maybe that'd help?
I mean yes I can and am listening to it somewhere else so not a problem, but for some reason the way I do it every week is broke this week. Just reporting it I guess. Sounds like the bitrate is very low.
I was just watching WAN show, late as always, and i just got to the section about MS dropping 2fa by sms.
In sweden, its actually illegal for employers to force employees to use their private property for work. The Employer must provide ALL tools required to preform work related tasks. There is BYOD systems, but they got increasingly unusable with the introduction of GDPR for various reasons. Apparently, not even asking the employee to install an authenticator app is allowed. Or rather, if the employee dislikes the idea of having company mandated apps, the company simply HAVE to provide one. Under BYOD programs, they generally also have to give you money for managing your device of choice. (Ofc, amount dictated by agreement).
🙂
This is how it is in BC too. If MFA is required to sign into accounts in order to accomplish your work, the employee can request that work provide an MFA method since it's a work related tool. This could be a work smartphone, an MFA hardware token, or a stipend that covers a portion of the cost of their personal phone if the employee is willing to go that route. For me personally, I will not install anything work related onto my phone because that opens me up to having my phone taken into evidence should there ever be a legal situation involving the employer. Plus, I want work to be work and personal to be personal. I will not mix the two.
I have 3 phones all day at work.
Private + Personal Work phone + Operations Phone. (1x S10 and 2x Samsung XCover 7)
Lots of phones in one pocket 😄
Blue Red Bull (blueberry) ❤️
The new Sudachi-Lime is pretty good too. (Ofc, only the sugar versions)
My worklife balance improved a lot after i decided to go with 2 phones. Now i often just leave my work phone in the car over the weekend...
Its not that im expected to look at emails or teams during the weekend. I just dont have the discipline to not to
Bingo. That's exactly what I do, too. We officially don't have an "on-call" schedule nor do we get paid to be "on-call" so I leave the work phone on silent in my bag. Not that it matters, since they also took away our SIM cards, so the phone is just a glorified WiFi-based Email / Teams device. 🤣
and when people are like "isnt it annoying to carry 2 phones" im like no i wear jeans. Workphone in backpocket and on the passenger seat or in the charging slot when driving
when im at my desk at work it goes on the desk and when i go poop it stays there because i wanna be on my private phone during that 😄
Besides my LTT hoodie, I have exactly zero pockets I can fit my private phone in (yaaay for useless female clothing pockets), so I generally carry at least a fanny pack with me (and for work I always carry a backpack). For this reason I generally don't care how many phones I carry lol. At an earlier job I had an iPhone and an iPad for work and my personal mobile, plus I would carry my work laptop, and frankly, there was no difference between a laptop and all the others and the laptop
Man, Luke is freaking delusional, Does he really think everyone working in the AI industry is getting golden steak money?

Checkout Messages is the worst rebranding.
The clothing is quite literally merchandise. It has the LTT logo, it's LTT Merch. If you wanted to make it more about the products remove the LTT logo.
Yeah hopefully its a one off thing
If it’s bc they’re pulling the audio from LTT and not the new channel, they should fix that lmao
I wondered that, but I tried them both via YT and they sounded fine?
that's what they're doing lmao
can we send COMs via this link outside of wan show hours?
or is this for sending COMs during wan show hours for purchases made outside wan show hours?

If I had to guess, I'd say this is for checking out their responses to your message. No idea tho.
But I'm pretty confident this isn't for COMs outside livestreams hours
yes that is for checking messages you've sent in the past. New ones can only be sent when they are live

Thank fuck that I just bought steamdeck off a friend, for a steep discount even compared to the avg used prices. (It was barely used)
Bestbuy still has not adjusted prices of their gaming handhelds
So you can get the Ally or Legion Go stuff for less than the new Steam Deck prices
Then just install Bazzite onto them cause fuck Windows
Currently in canada
Last day for it tho
I am seriously tempted, then I could just sell my Steam Deck to make up the majorty of that
I paid 400 for the steamdeck oled 512g, so I'm pretty happy about it
Why are they expensive now
Likely because the price of everything with Flash NAND and other chips has gone through the roof.

Windows and nvidia seem to be teasing this
https://www.theverge.com/news/939960/microsoft-computex-teaser-surface-nvidia-windows-rumors
But ARM isn't PC
Yes it is
It is
PC is just 'personal computer'
They had to confirm that it's not a new version lmao
PC is x86-64. ARM is smartphone
Those are processor architectures. They do not determine what the name of the system is
PC was IBM. Then the IBM clones. ARM has absolutely nothing to do with either and therefore is not PC.
Why is CISC a PC and RISC not a PC? What makes them so different that they cannot be called a "PC"
Because PC is a whole ecosystem based on X86-64.
PC was also Commodore, Atari, Tandy, apple, all not x86 (for the most part)
PC is just "Personal Computer"
It doesn't refer to x86-64 at all
And it's not just me saying it. Dictionary.com is saying it. Lenovo.com is saying it!
Don't accept the lies
Yeah, I should stop responding to the rage baiters calling ARM PC.
yea... my ARM Mac is a PC lol

Luke BODYING Linus in Tape 2 Tape is amazing
That game was a 3v1
SAMMY SHOT THE REFERIE
only 17 minutes early
still, crazy that they were early at all lol
I don’t think this transition is going very well
I heard Linus talking last week about maybe moving clips to a brand new channel and keeping the WAN Show channel for the livestreams only, and I don’t think that’s a good idea either

That is the clips channel
Linus, dude...
I still don’t know how the new Adequate Media company fits into the corporate structure and how separate it is from LMG, but WAN Show channel needs to go back to being just LMG Clips, and they should just start a new WAN Show channel from scratch just for WAN Show livestreams
Ping the LTT channel every week with a live stream that’s just a pre-recorded message with a link in the description to the stream/VOD on the new WAN Show channel and a reminder to subscribe, that stream on the LTT channel then gets deleted/privated and replaced by the new, identical pre-recorded message (with ping) when the next show airs on the WAN Show channel as normal
After about six weeks, leave the last pre-recorded message live on the LTT channel, rename it to “Where’s my WAN Show?” and change the link in the description to the base WAN Show channel
WAN Show

Talk during the show, and avoid twitch chat in here!
Test.
Test = successful
Oh, so this is going to be purged each week or something?
would presume so
No, Jake manually erased each message to relieve some stress
His inner troll is growing
is it live atm?
It's not Friday.

@loud lotus Or was it????
Where is my WAN show.
Party time!
It was a joke, because SHADOW asked if wan show was live on wednesday
or... was it????????
they are live
Tmw the WAN show starts but you’re out and on mobile data -.-
when they try and fix the audio but make it super quiet
Typical LTT
linus looks stressed
i would love a linus coin

But you get the idea.
Took all of that short WAN show to make that xD
@graceful oracle
Looks good to me

Perhaps, though Jake would be able to obtain it, I think.
@graceful oracle
He's busy.

LTT buying NCIX confirmed !
No. Colton is buying NCIX
You should know Colton is a joker.
*Caltane
He said the show would be on time, and it was.
Surprised WAN was on time for once.
If he can do that, he can buy NCIX
Yesh...
lel
Yes, I want one
yeee
ouch
i am fighting the urge to just buy one
i just bought these ASUS 27" monitors though. samsung y u do dis to me
I'll just take 2 more 25" dell ultrasharps
or maybe some of those monoprice 4k hdr ips panels
I just want a second 29" dell ultrawide ultrasharp
It's nice to see Luke having Linus on the Wan show
i've just got 2 21:9 monitors and 1 16x9 monitor and I get a higher aspect ratio for like $900 cheaper
