I still fail to see how this can become a WAN Show discussion point, let alone the fact that Linus is unable to do anything about this. He won't approach them and tell them to stop using a software they've invested hours of work to make work with their products. They've mentioned on the WAN Show they'd rather avoid drama or politics unless they are joking about it every now and then, and this doesn't fall into that.

Linus has made it a point that, on more than one occasion, all his involvement with the company is his one-time investment. I can post timestamps from more than one WAN Show where he stated specifically that he doesn't follow what they do (nor would he care if memory serves well) as he only paid them money and that's that.

This concern of yours will go unheard as you're not using the proper venue to voice them. You're attacking people instead of calming yourself and realizing that nobody here works for Framework or the other guy's company. People here lack the interest you do evidently, and you've continued despite everyone trying to move on from the topic. Your best option is to email Framework directly as this was already discussed on the LTT forums, or to bring it up on r/Framework or their Discord if they have one.

Was listening to the latest WAN show, the segment about data centers using aero derivative gas turbine generators was really interesting as we actually use similar gas turbine generators in my field of work. I just wanted to bring up that they are probably natural gas powered, and not diesel/jet fuel. Not sure where else to put a slight correction like this, since I am unable to listen to the show live.

Also, my employer recently announced a joint project where they are going to start using the natural gas turbine generators we use in the fracking industry for electric pumps, to actually power data centers in the Middle East, so at first I thought the show segment was going to be about that news 😂

From a technical perspective, aircraft have been able to fly virtually autonomously for a while now.. Autopilot and landing assist can really do all the work if nothing is going wrong.. so I doubt AI is gonna replace pilots.. but it might, if done right, make flying even safer.. more layers of checks.. of course it could also cause crashes too when pilots either don't believe what the AI is telling them, or when the AI gets it wrong, as has happened many times already with Autopilot in aircraft now..

Has anyone noticed the messy UGREEN AI NAS stuff that happening currently?
For context:
The release was said to be this year (https://nas.ugreen.com/pages/ugreen-ai-nas-feature-introduction), now a few days ago there was an update email regarding the UGREEN AI NAS Timeline (attached as screenshot, received on 28.10.2025), so far so good. I dont mind the extra wait and furthermore a free UPS would be awesome. The same announcement was sent into their discord by an employee (original statement is also attached as screenshot).

Now the weird part starts: I think on the 29.10 or the 30.10 the announcement was quietly deleted from their discord. It was reposted by an Discord Admin (not employee of UGREEN on the 30.10.2025 in the evening) because he felt like the people on the discord should have the same information and it was not communicated to him why it was deleted. It was then deleted again at point in the night of the 30.10.2025 to the 31.10.2025. And today a new statement by the employee was posted (attached as screenshot as well) with the parts about the extended warranty and UPS completely removed. After being asked about why the UPS is missing from the new discord announcement it was said "We will devise alternative compensation plans.". Whatever this means.

As I said in the beginning: I dont mind the extra wait. I think the only major distro which doesn't just use them is Arch when installed raw, but if you install Arch with any of the flavours on top (Endeavour, Manjaro, etc) then we go straight to auto-detecting and installing the drivers for your system on setup

Only reason arch doesn't by default is because you gotta make sure you remember to actually install them manually, which for CLI is just not important

I am 35 from europe, have been on the internet since I am 13, mostly on English speaking servers, forums, watching a lot of English stand up comedy etc. I have never heard the term "hard R" before the Linus incident. It is US slang that is not very common in Europe.

I pay for email because I want to use my own domain, and for the hassle of self hosting it is simply not worth it.
I don't want to use gmail because it is free.

I self host gitea because whilst having github is nice, I don't trust that it won't just start advertising to me.

I don't see why everyone is ok with becoming the product all the time and still buying all of these devices.

My new washing machine is a "smart" machine with an app. It doesn't even connect to the wifi because it is not being paired. if it ever got paired, I'd block the device from connecting to my network.

the smart TV we have is connected to the wifi, but because I use pi-hole what tracking it does do is mostly blocked anyway. If I could pay more for a dumb tv, I sure as hell would.

But, for the sake of argument, I am writing my own software right now, it is designed specifically with security, and as little tracking as is possible whilst still giving me the tools I need to actually debug errors and catch issues.

Basically every single competitor in the space is priced around the same price as what I am estimating that my company is going to be able to charge for the same product.

My company will naturally have a lower revenue because I have personally committed to never selling user data except for the purposes of selling the company outright. Which itself is an option I hope I never feel like I am in a position where I have to take.

If my business plan works, then realistically speaking there is zero reason why my company could not be competetive with the others in the space, and we get to market on our morality and ethics.

Batteries are generally not allowed in checked luggage, since the pressure and temperature control in the luggage area isn't really as good/necessary, which can cause batteries to swell up and leak out. Battery acid is fairly corrosive and could potentially cause damage to the airplane. So yeah, not a Canada specific thing. I'm pretty sure it's an IATA requirement, and most major airlines are operating under IATA regulations.

The Steam Machine is Valve’s answer, bringing the Deck experience to your TV with far more powerful guts. Valve says it offers six times the power of a Steam Deck, and it looks like it’ll offer at least PS5-level performance and possibly beat the PS5 Pro.

The prototype didn’t do nearly as well at native 4K — just 24fps average — but consoles generally don’t play the most demanding games at native 4K, either. I also benched with the same 720p settings I use to test every handheld and saw a solid 131fps, though the low resolution looked pretty ugly on a 4K TV!

At the very least I would like to buy the controller. I have a remapping software for PC, but the Xbox controller I have is a poor replacement for mouse. With the Steam controller it would make sense to use my laptop remotely (which is much desired with a baby), but using a wireless mouse goes only so far - a controller would be able to switch between being a mouse and being a fully mapped game controller.

That said, if we will eventually get a large TV in the living room, the Steam Box would be the most practical console option (we only have Nintendo Switch and it's not gonna be phased out, since I play a lot of Nintendo specific games...but I'd love to play PC games, well, not on PC!)

Floatplane including chat is having issues. AJ is working on a hotfix, but it's up and down.

As well if you're on the beta site, that is also having issues viewing creator pages (including the livestream page). So we'd recommend using the stable build to watch for now (not beta.floatplane.com)
