So i know this is odd, but the WAN Show caused me to fix my sitting posture. I was sitting in a chair that wasn’t made for someone in my caliber. Cut to 2023- Vancouver, Canada. I’m riding public transit to Surrey before hopping a lyft to The Office. I get in line for my tour, wait about 20 minutes, then finally walk into The Office. The first stop? Shortcircuit set- but who cares about that! Next was the WAN Show set. I sit in the “old” 2020 black and gold Secret Labs Titan chair that Linus had on set at the time. It felt pretty decent, but I didn’t have enough time in one. Fast forward to last week, my old RAZER chair I got at a shipping damage store for $80 in 2020 almost snaps at the base (due to wear and sitting on one side of the chair). I’ve got a bit of spending money, SL has a sale going on and they have become the chair partner of the WAN Show. So I bite the bullet, order the chair, then wait the 2 day shipping time and receive it today. Took about an hour to put it together- but as soon as it is? I simply sit down and feel my back release. That razer chair, the way the seat bent into my thighs causing me to get several different cushions, it all just floated away. This chair feels worth the cost so far and will update this as I live with it.

Honestly, my SL chair was often the only chair I was able to tolerate during pregnancy, apart from sitting on the couch with like 3 pillows. I just got a footrest upgrade after having the base chair for about 4 years now (also, it's the only gamer chair I've found that really does small size), and it's really worth it, apart from the assembly complication (the small chair is a bit shorter, so the legrest is a bit tight fit, despite having a matching sizing).

Yeah I feel you. I was surprised how good it was. I got it when I moved to full HO at my previous workplace, and they've required me to have a fully adjustable and full lumbar support chair for work and safety, or else I'd have had to borrow one of the ergonomic office chairs and take it home/back to the office by taxi. Our work and safety advisor actually passed my chair as appropriate, despite being very harsh on most gaming chairs as inadequate for office use.

IMO the issue with stop killing games is they are campaigning for a vague outcome without offering either clear guidelines (i.e. a proposed law), nor are they offering a suggestion for how to create that outcome, so it translates roughly into "stop doing this wide variety of things that makes me feel a certain way" - which is not actionable feedback for the industry.

Whilst it's far from perfect, it's something . Sadly, like everything in a democratic electoral body that encumbers several very different cultures, it's slow, complicated and has to satisfy a LOT of different countries, who couldn't even agree on what time they want to keep as perpetual time (choosing between two options of either summer time and standard time) whilst long elected almost unanimously to stop with the back and forth of clock setting.
Yet, EU lawmakers certainly are working on things that then also benefit the rest of the world. I just wish other countries/federations with similar impact would also do their share, so it would all be more speedy and effective.

Again, it's an electoral body of multiple countries with very different local legislation. Creating fit-for-alls is not simple, and a ton of bureaucracy is involved. It is what it is, not ideal, but, again, something . I voted to bring the Save Games initiative to the table, this was the most I could do at this time, it is also something. Meanwhile everyone is welcome to come up with better options in their respective countries with their respective elected government. There's a vibe coding thread where developers are having an epiphany: maybe they should keep old versions of their code around, just in case their latest inspired hack turns everything into digital spaghetti.

Congratulations—they've just discovered their first professional software delivery practice: Version control. That's from 1972.

Next week, they'll revolutionize development by inventing "testing" after their app crashes in production. Again.

I think the real learning lesson here is don’t give llms which don’t give a fuck about any instructions full read/write access to critical systems

If it's GxP, pre-prod isn't even necessary. In pharma we just do Dev, QA and Prod, where Dev isn't GxP controlled (since it is really a playground), but both QA and Prod are - so nothing happens without several signatures of different departments validating the changes first. And it's not only an expectation - the system doesn't let through anything, since it's a system level process.
But non-GxP, I can see how Pre-prod could make sense, although I feel like that's just a fancy QA.

I've been vibe coding since before LLMs

#

Never took the time to learn Python, so I just keep throwing shit at the IDE and see what sticks

#

And I haven't written any C, the language I actually learned, since 2022, because I hadn't used it for a couple of years by then and when I needed to code with it again... well, the amount debugging I had to do for just the simplest stuff that I had completely forgotten about was utterly ridiculous

So will the whole shebang with IronMouse be covered on the next WAN Show?

Completely understand if LMG or Linus himself can't due to either not being on topic specifically with tech or if there's some type of executive investment into VShojo from anyone at LMG.

Might be interested to get Linus's view on streamer agencies..

#

My own perspective: I'm shocked that there isn't any sort of union for VTubers yet. Though I'm not shocked, a lot of VTubers that are popular currently are from Japan, which isn't quite known for workers to unionize due to culturual differences when it comes to how they prioritize group think compared to the West which tends to be more individualistic and are more critical of the people who are in charge of their workplace.

#

I've heard that there's some inherit trust fans of VTubers have with the VTuber agencies, which comes down to the honor system. Where they just have to trust that the agencies are treating their talent well.

#

I know Linus, as a member of the LMG executive board, has his own perspective of unions. But I do inherently disagree with him on how unions are a reflection of your overall performance as a higher up.

#

Just so I don't go on, I'll just say this: Unions shouldn't be seen as the workers having a disdain for their high ups. More so an agreement between the two parties on what conditions should be met while the workers work for the high ups.

#

(Also if Linus is reading, no hard feelings for you personally, just my own opinion from personal experience.)

woeful crescent
#

I never got the impression Linus "hates" unions.. he just says that if one is needed (at LMG) then he feels he failed.. He's said before that they have been necessary.. obviously in cases like this, people are being failed.. that said not sure how much a Union would help, given the cross-borders issues, and how many people out there would stream without caring, I think one would have limited over all benefit.. Now maybe connecting themself to SAG or something might have more teeth.. but even then, SAG can't stop Twitch or YT from letting people stream that aren't members, so agencies would just back those people..

gilded quail
# woeful crescent I never got the impression Linus "hates" unions.. he just says that if one is ne...

I never really thought that Linus had hatred for unions overall. Again, I view it less of an indication that you failed as a leader and more so a type of agreement that would allow workers to benefit from having required needs met; while giving the leader in question a tangible list of requirements for them to fulfill. Almost think of it like a contract.

I doubt that Linus would view signing a contract for work as a failure on his end to go through with his promises and expectations. It mainly just highlights to him what his workers need in order to fulfill their work obligations. Obviously the requirements should be within the realms of possibility given the context of what's bring brought to the table by the leader and workers.

#

And to highlight again, I get Linus' perspective. I have my own struggles with not taking criticism and expectations that you have to fulfill personally. But, as someone running a large operation like LMG, it's at the benefit of his workers and himself to outline the terms of work when it comes to employees at LMG.

(Also not to say he isn't, just a general statement to highlight my own perspective on the importance of unions.)

What does this potentially mean for human VTubers?
https://youtu.be/LyCCEpRXkuY

Virtual YouTubers like Bloo promised a new era of entertainment, combining human creativity with AI scalability. But their rapid rise is raising concerns about authenticity and audience trust. and by human VTubers, I mean human-puppeteered VTubers.

#

Compared to human-puppeteerd VTubers, I bet AI VTubers like Bloo is probably veering towards the AI slop domain rather than the toys that some of these AI tools were meant to be right now.

#

Who knows if these AI VTubers would either get slapped by YouTube's attempt to crack down on a chunk of AI slop (like Linus mentions here) or would wiggle their way around the barriers that YouTube might put up.

And, my main YouTube channel and viewing channel got removed by YouTube within an hour.

I think this has to be part of a wave of mass YouTube deletions that is designed to punish bad actors but punishes everybody.

They removed my main channel thinking there were scams, spam, and deception, which isn't true.

It really does seem like Google doesn't want users like me to be on YouTube anymore

I think vibe coding can work for smaller tasks or projects but if you're dealing with large requirements and projects around enterprise code, then I think that's where you'll have trouble even knowing if what the LLM gave you was correct and you'd need an actual developer to verify each process

It's easier to vibe code a toy with AI rather than a full operating system, for example.

I just watched the Indian PC Roast video. And why the hate of small mouse spaces? I have a 1200mm LTT Deskpad and I use 10x10 cm space for my mouse commonly 😄

4 cm is enough to go across the full screen with mouse acceleration (which I'm pretty used to)

Maybe some people like using wide mouse spaces with the same acceleration when it comes to FPS games?

At the same acceleration settings meant for a small space, it certainly is overkill for productivity.

Even Chris Pirillo uttered this phrase in 2016, that also fits this whole ordeal well:

"Those who don't remember the past are doomed to repeat the mistakes they made in the past."

#

i can't get into newer anime. hand drawn animation >

inner idol
#

2D animation being the "scapegoat of bad storytelling" could explain as to partly why hand-drawn animation in the mainstream in US cinemas fizzled out and became a niche.

#

I betcha all those TV show movie adaptations--including some quality bangers like The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Recess: School's Out, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, and The Tigger Movie (not technically a New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh movie, but it is a Disney Television Animation-produced DisneyToon movie, leaning closer to the ethos of the 1966-1974 Pooh featurette continuity, so... kinda counts but kinda doesn't?)--either underperforming at the box office, sometimes being mid or garbage to critics and/or moviegoers, or just flooding the cinema space probably also contributed to 2D's mainstream decline in cinemas,

#

all this, on top of the stiff competition from CG animated movies, especially from the big-wigs like Pixar, DreamWorks, and eventually Blue Sky, Sony Pictures Animation, and Illumination later on.

#

And of course, the stiff competition from live-action movies of the same era.

#

For example, Hey Arnold!: The Movie and The Powerpuff Girls Movie opened the same summer of 2002 (May to July in this case) as six particular high-profile movies that season; Men in Black II, Austin Powers in Goldmember. Lilo & Stitch, Spider-Man, Stuart Little 2, and probably the most high-profile of them all, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.

#

Not a particularly good time to release a TV film adaptation, especially for a show as then-popular as The Powerpuff Girls.

#

And of course, Paramount and Nickelodeon's superb TV film adaptation that year--The Wild Thornberrys Movie--competed in the same holiday season as The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Paramount's own Star Trek: Nemesis. (which was also a TV film adaptation of sorts being part of a TV-originated franchise)

#

28 Days Later also opened in the domestic UK cinemas at the same time in late 2002, but it wouldn't "infect" the worldwide market and "rage" on until Fox Searchlight got ahold of the worldwide rights and released it in the Summer of 2003.

#

By then, both that and Finding Nemo would've been gobbling up the 2003 summer B.O.

#

especially eating away at 2D TV films like Rugrats Go Wild and original 2D films like Disney's Brother Bear

#

Also, Treasure Planet definitely suffered a beating at the same 2002 summer as Hey Arnold! and Powerpuff.

#

Ice Age being a surprise March 2002 hit didn't help either.

People want to be around others who are happy about something, not upset, angered, etc.

To use an example, you don't want to use a modern Dymo label maker (the mechanical ones, not the electronic ones) to give a first impression of the label makers, you want to use a well-maintained 60s or 70s or even 80s one for that.

I mean, I'm pretty sure the idea was that accounts that show an activity that would prove its owner not to be underage (such as being created long enough that makes it impossible to be owned by a child) are being verified in their own rights. I also think they're connected to a Google account, which normally has some amount of age verification data connected to them, even without payment information.
Back in 2007 I created a secondary FB account for silly reasons, but it has enough social activity and data that I have never had to verify the bogus person behind it. It's been sitting ducks for ages, never cared enough to delete, but it's like passing all system checks and FB at this point just considers it legit, whereas about a quarter of my friends and acquaintances had to, at some point, verify their identity over the years (especially when married women had to change their names which can no longer happen without ID verification - which is why I have never updated my actual account to match my updated last name)

Updated: 8/1/2025 4:18 p.m. ET: In a statement to Kotaku, a spokesperson for Valve said that while Mastercard did not communicate with it directly, concerns did come through payment processor and banking intermediaries. They said payment processors rejected Valve’s current guidelines for moderating illegal content on Steam, citing Mastercard’s Rule 5.12.7.

“Mastercard did not communicate with Valve directly, despite our request to do so,” Valve’s statement sent over email to Kotaku reads. “Mastercard communicated with payment processors and their acquiring banks. Payment processors communicated this with Valve, and we replied by outlining Steam’s policy since 2018 of attempting to distribute games that are legal for distribution. A few days after ZOOM Platform posted its statement, a representative told GamingOnLinux that they expected delistings to grow, and that, in discussions at ZOOM Platform, titles like “Grand Theft Auto, Duke Nukem, and Saints Row were described as potentially at risk.”

#

“In the course of our discussions with the payment processors, going over the content contained within games on our store, including the Duke Nukem franchise, we were made aware of loosely defined language, rules from credit card companies, that could include Duke Nukem’s portrayal of women.”

“When we pressed for more details, given that such language cast a wide net, we were told that Grand Theft Auto, and similar titles such as Saints Row, could very well fit this description.”

Regarding its initial published statement, ZOOM Platform said that “with the advent of the UK’s Online Safety Act, the potentiality for censorship is vastly increasing. We simply wanted to share this information, so that the public would be informed.”
