Ohh this is familiar. At a time when my bank already had an app-based MFA, I ordered regularly from this German site (mostly Japanese food and kitchenware stuff). They had everything set up electronically (such as the automatic country-based VAT calculation incl. special food tax calc that was not common back in 2020), but it could not handle my Debit card due to MFA. I had to do a bank transfer every time I ordered anything, which was not that great because of the bank transaction fees and exchange rate.
This is also why I absolutely dislike PayPal and don't even use it anymore. Exchange rates are ridiculous, and they add transaction fees as well. Plus you literally need to make a new account every time when using a different location, and your email address can never be reused even if you close an account (as someone having moved around Europe, this is a HUGE inconvenience)

TBH, most people in Europe just use Wise or Revolut nowadays for international transactions. These are pretty safe, too, since you can keep these accounts pretty empty, so if they end up being misused, there isn't much you can loose.

Not going to lie, if my iPad can be like a simple MacBook, kinda like how windows has a simple version, I would invest more in the eco system. Proper mouse support would be amazing. Due to the designs the grips have had issues with the sides separating from the back for years, not all of them have it and I'm still not even sure why it happens, and I guess they don't find out until people have torture tested them

My current system (and its been so for a while) is:

1. Self-hosted bitwarden (vaultwarden) instance for passwords (tbh non-SH is fine if SH isn't your thing, AFAIK they haven't been breached to this day)
2. KeePass(XC+DX) + Syncthing for 2FA.

I like to split them because keeping both PW and 2FA in the same place means if it gets breached then the 2FA is useless.

It's really not much of a hassle to login anywhere, though I never got keepass to work with LibreWolf, so I still have to manually copy the 2FA from XC to the browser every time, but I just leave it open all the time so it's like sub-10s to find→copy→paste it

Cause I have, and still use it, and its never natively had any way to deal with connecting to stuff over the interent, not without either using a VPN so both are on the same LAN, or if you had your WAN IP, and set up the router to properly forward ports needed for RDP to the computer you are connecting too..

theres a remote desktop host for linux, you just set that up to run on the raspberry pi and you never have to connect a keyboard or monitor again

I actually switched to Google Remote Desktop for connecting across the internet when TeamViewer shut down their free plan..

Also Google Remote Desktop is also a bit more flakey.. I've had it fail to connect a LOT for reasons unknown.. TeamViewer never failed unless the net was down, or the system was seriously screwed up heh.. Same with RDP..

glad i dumped Teamviewer many years ago. To them, spending more than 5min helping my Grandparents figure out how to email, was "commercial use" and kept locking/banning my account. They never responded to my appeal requests, expect for one, over a year later.

i am a bit concered, this will happen more and more. I paid for Macrium Reflect v8. And they sent me the same email, when their next version, X came out (no 9 ver). They say v8 License i have is perpetual and lifetime. I optional can trade it in for the new Yearly subscription model for ver X.

I've not seen the show yet but if it wasn't mentioned: RustDesk.
There's a super lightweight server image you can run and after setting up the credentials in the clients it works flawlessly.
And if you don't wanna host the server, you can easily connect client to client with something like zerotier or tailscale¹ to pretend you're on LAN even when you aren't. There's even an android client, which also works beautifully.

Unfortunate that, at least in the US, they're incorrect. Cops aren't going to help you track down a random craigslist scammer. You'll get the odd one that actually cares about their job, but in general enjoy filing a police report for it to sit in the archives for the rest of time while you're out $400. If authorities do something, great. But protect yourself by taking basic precautions to avoid being scammed, don't encourage people to trust in the authorities that very well may do nothing.

Yep.. 10-->11 has a lot of under the hood benefits.. that aren't generally apparent unless its something you know from the previous version.. Multi-monitor was HUGE for me.. no more windows doing all over every time my displays sleep.. sure there were apps to put them back, but it didn't always work and had their own issues..

I don't mind the 11 menu anymore.. and its getting an update to be less bad.. My only real complaint is that to remove Recent Files there, ALSO disabled Recent File jumplists on the taskbar.. SPLIT THAT SHIT UP! I want one, not the other!

Also my current issue is multi-tasklbar on 11.. on my systes I have them set to auto-hide, on my laptop with a second display, never an issue.. on my desktop seemingly randomly it'll stop working after waking my monitors up from sleep, and I'll need to toggle it off--on..

I just want the taskbar drag and drop back. I have gotten used to a side bar on Ubuntu, and when Win10 allowed me to keep using the side bar, it was a BIG thing for me in my decision moving back to Windows. Now, after about 15 years of using the side bar, I'm forced to use the bottom, which doesn't work well with the way I organise the Desktop/multiple monitor setup (especially for work) and I hate it. I had to use a Win10 mod over GitHub on my previous work laptop, but that occasionally breaks explorer.exe after some major updates, so it's not a super stable solution

I know it's an arbitrary issue, but also shouldn't be a huge deal for a simple feature that already existed on Win10

It says that's only required in cases where the economic impact exceeds $100M, which them estimating it was less than that is the cited reason for not having the analysis, but I would assume it's more than just an economy analysis given they had to do that to know if they needed to include it at all?

It's still BS, I'm just curious to understand whether the reason for blocking it is made up or not.

It seems to be a generic term, since there's dozens of agency websites that include "preliminary regulatory analysis" or similar and have their own definitions.
