Honestly I don't think LMG expected to take the video down.. reuploading it by others might be nice for rep but it doesn't pay the bills.. and unless DBrand was the Sponsor, I imagine most companies putting their money on the table will want it back if the video is gone in a week or two..

More likely I think CompTIA's lawyers raised a case that LMG didn't consider, and that had actual merit, to the point that fighting it would not be worth it, or that they would hands down lose..

What is very interesting, is that they appear to be under a gag order. Not allowed to discuss why they took it down. They went into great detail and discussed the Google vid... Linus even stated that should a company, sponsor or not, have issue with a vid, to reach out to them, inform them of what specific wording or specific part of the video that they take issue with, and to open a dialog to discuss if a change is warranted. (this also came up when they mentioned that Audio gear reviewer who had a Audio company threaten to sue over the persons review)

Again, they did nothing illegal, far as i can tell. They did exactly what the official testing centers do, record the person taking the exam as part of the proctoring. I mean, also, people that take the exam remote, while at work on the clock, most likely there gonna be CCTV security cams around, and i doubt that requiring the tester to have a business Security Cams disabled while testing is in their TOS... that would be crazy.
The only thing that makes sense for a legal threat, is just the tone of the video, and their statements... considered to be slander and hurtful to Comptia. Impacting their credibility and, of course, their bottom line, since it cost big $ for the Certs and they do not want companies to decided that they can hire people with out them.

Technically speaking, they didn't upload their materials, and they are within their rights to upload a video only about themselves. It was likely an argument that a lawyer made based off a technicality and LTT didn't want to get into it, since it's not worth their time and money (even if they could basically fight it). I recall that the review had no major sponsor either, since Linus mentioned in the video, that it might be stirring up issues, so they were prepared for this as well. I doubt this came as a complete surprise for the team at all.

I just got to the point in the wan show where Linus and Luke talks about driving licences... and I must say, that is such an american take....
Here in sweden, the average cost for a driving licence is roughly $1500. If you do not have anyone to teach you on the side, you are looking at a cost of up to $6000... The driving examination expects roughly 100 hours of driving before the practical test. And there is a written exam on the traffic rules. Not counting illegal ways, getting a licence is a pretty big deal. Definitely not everyone that have all the criterias.

• Quite a lot of saved money
• Quite a lot of free time
• A friend/family member to help. (Needs to have had a licence for 5 years uninterrupted, and I think you also need to be without incidents during those)

I went from a no name Chinese burner android phone, to a OnePlus 6T for four years, and then to a Google Pixel 7. The experience on each was so massively different to the previous that even just going from my P7 to my OP6T running LineageOS is a struggle because nav works so differently on all three devices, with the pixel doing "back" gestures from the sides, and the OnePlus doing them from the lower corners, and the burner phone not supporting them at all

Android is a confusing mess which lacks a unifying experience between the different manufacturers

I say this, as someone who moved away from an iOS family to my android phone because I hated the way the iPhone felt at the time

Ironically, the lack of cohesion is making me want to join the dark side and pick up a second hand iPhone and M2 Macbook and see how much the ecosystem has changed really for how I use things

It definitely helps that I'm in a much better position financially now than I was at the time so the high price is much more affordable (even if it is still quite the stretch) than it was six years ago when I left the ecosystem entirely

With pixels, you can change the navigation back to the 3 buttons at the bottom. I hate the gesture method for switching and closing apps.

I went from a life long Android user, to a iOS user relatively fast. After the Android 10 beta on my Pixel 3(i think it was 10, whatever version it was that made radical changes to the UI) i felt like it was time for a change, was bored with Android, wanted a challenge. I also started working at a shop that refurbed Apple computers...having never even used one of them. I bought a iphone XR off a co-worker for cheap as my intro to the iPhone life....took a couple months of intense trial and error, re-learning, and a chunk of $ to buy apps... Now, i can't go back to Android. Also, due to how so much better Homekit is for smarthome devices, along with Homebridge, and automations i go setup very easy... i got hooked into the Apple ecosystem now, at lest for phone/tablet. I still can not stand MacOS for desktop use

TLDR. Android is boring. iOS constantly challenges you with all its quirks and feature bugs.

Homekit is tangentially the closest thing to on-prem consumer home automation and I love that considering all the competing frameworks have telemetry issues, even though policy is stated otherwise (Eufy ).

The true dichotomy of Google’s Play Services to Apple’s principles towards public policy are so staunch in contrast.

I went to iOS from android for three reasons, a) the only android at the time that had a long term support was samsung and i don't like their way of doing android, i find it bloated and hard to use. b) Apple was the only one that had 4-6 years of support on their phones, (pixel wasn't in NZ offically at the time) i was getting sick of buying a phone for around $7-800 NZD to have to upgrade two years later because of lack of support updates after X time and c) i changed environments and the majority of the people i am around use imessage and iphone stuff.

I've had my 14pro for 2 years now, decided if I was going to give apple a shot i wanted to try their best at the time and on paper the pro for that year was the best all around, where now it might be up to debate with the 16 range. Anyways i do miss some parts of android, esp the whole to get to this part it takes one press where on apple you need 6 situation but some things are getting better. Android tbh isn't any better than apple, we need the two for everyone to get what they want in a phone. You can't get me to run MacOS though, i HATE it.

All i have apple wise is watch (SE2), phone, ipad and airpod pros gen 2 which i got for over $100 off while in australia on holiday.

Though, the bigger problem, i see is, is that companies think it is THE cert and that someone has it, they are experienced and can do the job. Which is almost never true.

I don't know about anyone else but I wish they would change their stance on merch messages after the recent video. I mean, there's always Floatplane chat for an off-chance reaction, and that's an even lower price in the big scheme of things. But that also drives conversations just within the chat. So besides MM, there's a small chance there, and I believe FP chat is actually moderated by several of their staff members, not that it needs a lot of moderation as I can imagine, since it's fairly closed for subscribers.
(I'm not on Floatplane so I'm not sure how it works, but they often read and react on comments from there, so it seems like a fair assumption that it works out well).

They also don't promote subscriptions to Floatplane for that matter, all they do is mention that if you want to support them or you're interested in exclusive material or you want to watch the pre-show, then Floatplane is your place. They are never actively say that anyone should subscribe and they are very adamant on NOT to buy anything from LTT store purely on fan vibe basis, buy stuff only if you actually need or really like them, regardless of the LTT logo.

Honestly, there's really no point being upset about anything regarding YT or Twitch chat, they can't and won't moderate those, so they will ignore both. They actively discourage people subbing there, since most of those profits end up with the platform owners anyway - if you want ad-free, just get YT Premium or Twitch Turbo, they have better value than individual subs anyway.

FP chat is far and away better than the others. It's more constructive, far less spammy and has a strong community feel the others lose when they grow past a certain size. Regardless of marketing, paywalls do tend to serve as an effective troll gate. And I say this as someone who moderates all 3 platforms.. YT is essentially untamable, and Twitch is.. Twitch.
Is there financial motivation to emphasize FP chat over the others? Sure. But there absolutely is a substantial quality difference.

it is my experience too that FP chat is way better than the other chats. Obviously there are a few people that drag it down a bit, but it is significantly less than other chats

the difference being that it is more expensive to make them modular than soldered (because module have to be soldered in two places, the chip to the board, and the socket to the other board), instead of just the one (chip to board), so, actually, there is less soldering

On an individual/small run thats true, at scale however it swings the other way due to only having to make one/fewer sku's of the mainboard and just adding ran/storage as needed and to the degree needed..

Apples pricing on upgrades really only makes "sense" if every non-base model is made to order, so each person is paying for the time of a person to run the machines to solder and test the non-base amount of ram and storage.. which isn't happening.. they are just charging an insane markup cause they can.
