another reason they did it is for other creators to have a platform where youtube isn't taking a large cut of the subscription money, as floatplane supports other creators to put their content there. It's different from patreon because floatplane is a lot closer to youtube than it is patreon in terms of being able to go through a channel's uploads and posts (at least from what I can tell with my limited experience using patreon)

I’m hearing a lot of talk from someone who didn’t watch enough of the video to understand the three drawbacks of Peltier coolers.

Many years ago I owned one of these peltier coolers; I found it was too noisy and power-hungry only to do a bad job at chilling too few cans of drinks. I donated the thing to a charity shop that probably threw it away.

Peltier coolers are amazing for certain lab equipment. U-tube based desnity meters use them to maintain a steady measuring temperture. Typical range for such instruments is 4-30°C. This works fast and reliable for that application. But we are talking 2mL of liquid here.

In fact, he's said as much before, he very publicly has announced that he thinks it was a terrible idea to remove publicly viewable dislikes and has advocated for returning them. However, on purely a logistical basis, he doesn't view dislikes themselves as a feature, rather as part of a wider, "like/dislike" feature. As such, them removing the ability for non-creators to see dislikes (because, remember, you can still dislike content and creators can still see those dislikes) would not constitute the removal of a feature, but the nerfing of a feature.

The opposing viewpoint then, is that the ability for non-creators to see dislikes itself constituted a feature. I can see it both ways. Personally, I don't care and see no value in arguing one way or another. But I do see that Linus' take on this subject has been vastly misrepresented, since these viewpoints are necessarily mutually exclusive from one's opinion of removing the ability, which is extremely crucial to remember.

They didn't just remove the video, they purged all content relating to the video including the raw footage from their servers.. meaning its likely they got a legal threat, and one with enough behind it that they had to take it seriously..

why they remove A+ thing when Linus himself wants people to know the truth. He did not specify why, just that is is gone. They Did nothing illegal. They just used examples based off of memory in the video. Nothing of the actual test. No where in the terms for the test does it say that u can not talk about what questions were on it etc. (at least it didn't when i took it, nearly a decade ago)

Certification is a huge business in the industry. To criticize it the way they did affects confidence in not only the testing process but the customers who may want to get certified. So I'm sure CompTIA's lawyers had no choice in this one.

they didn't challange or criticize any of the higher up certs. Those are much more complex. They only did the base level A+, which every tech knows is shit cert. Useless. Pointless.

my old boss, a small tech shop i worked at, he used a hdmi capture box inline with monitor, and recorded the whole thing fine. though, that was back in 2018.

posted it to FB and YT. Only got deleted when he closed the shop, in late 2022 due to storm damage

though, some hole-in-the-wall tech shop,. nothing compared to the visibilty of LMG.

I'm sure if LMG chose to fight it they could, but those are resources they use to pay their employees. the amount they make frrom videos is way different from what they would be spending in legal fees. LMG doesn't even have an inhouse lawyer

I switched from Android to iphone, back in 2020...and still, Apple has not fix many of the jank and bugs that plague iOS. lol. I got used to them though. Homekit so much better than Googles smarthome eco.

3. linus is going to go through the troubles he’s experiencing, see if there are solutions, then give his judgement on those solutions rather than just saying ios is bad (though apple users will still likely be mad)

you can most definitely get used to the way apple does things (I’ve been in the apple ecosystem for a few years now after using android for several years), but I agree that the customization is a lot worse than android

he does them to tell it how it is..yes., but, he knows damn well that the drama of it being taken down is WAY more visibility and viewer reaction than it being just part of the normal library that is LTT vids. The whole theme and style of the vid, made it clear that what they were doing, was going to be edgy and risky.

but, them taking away his cert.... he passed the test, so, they leagaly have to give it to him. I woudl think. Even though, the circumstances were not ideal to their "proctored" online testing terms. But, he don't care if they take it way, so... won't bother to fight it.

when i took the A+, was in some small office suite, with a person at a desk in other room, and a camera in the testing room, recording each station that people were testing at. And the person at the desk, watched us take the test.
