They are generally used by large companies, and even if you work there, you don't hear of it unless it's missing from your system. They basically use it for software security checks, so it isn't the equivalent of Avast or Panda (I keep forgetting what the actual antivirus of my former workplace was, but it doesn't even matter). It's running in the background, and the only place it is showing up is the device compatibility check via whatever solution the workplace uses for software center type downloads. The average user is very unlikely to have Crowdstrike installed, it's not very useful for individuals.

The real question is, does one rare bug (even on this scale) counter the possibility of a system check overlooking a malware, that could possibly do more long-term harm.
Yes, this was a huge issue on a large scale, but it was, after all, fixable, if the IT has gotten to the necessary machines quickly enough at each company.

In comparison, an ex-workplace of mine had a cyber attack a few years back, which has halted production for over a week, and they have dealt with the backlash for months, as sensitive data was leaked and customers were not happy. Ofc this was more of a social engineering issue, where someone clicked the wrong link and their logon data leaked, so Crowdstrike wasn't going to stop this. The point is that should a malware have instead downloaded itself in the guise of an attachment (opened by the same person), and next day CS perhaps would've caught it while booting up, flagging the malware before it touched anything else, and perhaps stopped it from spreading; would it still be worth keeping the process as is?

Also, Windows won't be checking partner software updates on their end. It is not really their responsibility. It is generally the responsibility of the company's local software team to ensure that n updates go out to all PCs that have not been tested, which is why so many Windows system updates go out up to 6 months later in company infrastructures as opposed to personal system updates. CS security updates should be no different, which is why it was curious how it hit every online OS head-on. Unless users are allowed to download Windows driver updates on company devices freely (which is usually not the case), then this one shouldn't have slipped through in such a large scale.

CS is obviously at fault in here, but that's the tip of the iceberg. No updates on corporate network levels should ever be able to immediately pass to networked machines before the local IT security team (or whoever tests updates at that place) has had time to see if these updates are safe. Any updates. Whatever software infrastructure someone chooses to use is their responsibility as well as the software provider's.

That’s not really how it works with EDR, the very nature of needing to block attacks that have just surfaced means it needs to be updated live to a certain degree, not whenever the company IT has the time to review it. Most similar products don’t even allow you to defer updates, so it really can’t be on the IT team. CrowdStrike should have absolutely tested before rolling out, this falls squarely on them

"to a certain degree" - yes. Live databases or security patches addressing a known problem - absolutely, roll those out. This was really, neither, just a regular scheduled update (at least by all the description and information seems to be suggesting this). Major updates should always be tested locally or at least second checked locally. Driver updates come through as a Windows update package, which literally can (and usually is) delayed, unlike regular software updates. And CS behaves like a driver (or is a driver, arguable, I'm not 100% on its full infrastructure).
In any case, second checking is always important, regardless who messes up. It will be your problem, even if someone else to blame, which was pretty much my point. But anyway, I digress.

Yes, it is a driver. But updating it is handled 100% by the EDR’s endpoint software, Windows Update knows nothing about it. Thing is, good luck convincing your EDR provider to completely rewrite the way they handle updates just for you. Your choices are basically use it as is, find another EDR (every large one I’ve seen in the wild operates like this), or roll your own, all of which are pretty much impractical, even at a large corporate IT scale

Interesting, I have the textile cover version for over 2 years now and the only part I need replacing are the armrests (since no matter what, PU will get porous and start peeling). Otherwise it's a really good chair and I prefer it to office chairs (of which good quality ones cost 3x as much in my experience)

I think it's very variable for people regarding what they find comfortable. Cheaper chairs tend to be soft at first but have no good support and get super bad after 6 months or so. Office chairs are generally really thin due to the design and the way they are made, but that I personally don't like other than for typing (and most activities I do don't require me typing, such as work or gaming).
A good quality gaming chair lets me lay back, that's often what I do for meetings or RPG, and my current chair has a very good cushion support.

Then again, I'm actually using a small chair that fits my height/weight, so it's optimal (which is often the issue with gaming chairs, if they aren't exactly set for your body values), as opposed to office chairs, that tend to satisfy a wider range of body types in my experience. They aren't great for very light or very heavy ppl tho.

So yeah, I like them, but my partner hates racing chairs and instead he invested in a higher end office chair.

2. You can buy and own digital copies of DRM-free music, you can't do that with movies.
