All in all it was fun to go back and see the quality drop slowly and then drop off a cliff when it started artifacting

I enjoyed seeing Youtube struggling to fight ad blockers. The only way Youtube can get viewers to watch ads is to give the viewers a cut of the ad revenues for wasting their time. All they have to do is, raise the cost of promoting ads 10% and give that 10% to the viewers. So not only viewers will get compensated, it would boost revenues to the creator and Youtube because ads are being delivered.

You are right, but there is a difference between ads that are on the side, or a banner between each video icon that you scroll though verses a complete interruption of viewing your contents (in some case - multiple times). I am saying for that specific conditions ads should not only be paying for creators, but for the viewers as well.

If YouTube is going extreme to try locking out users that use adblock it proven that a good portion of viewers are fed up the way they deliver ads. I didn't used adblocker during the time when ads were not interrupting the videos. YouTube's actions is the reason I found adblocker years ago. Every time I turned it off to see if they change their methods but it turns out worse

You are right, no one would care... until it start interrupting your access to content you wanted to see. Linus delivers better ads - I mean sponsors- than YouTube does. Granted I press the right arrow key 3-4 times but it was definitely less intrusive.

If you want to continue to be a cheap person consuming free content; then you have to deal with whatever the company decides to do to off set the service you receive for free. You can choose to not use the platform but it’s free. So it requires something to support it, which is adds.
