Yeah I'm not a turn based fan either. One of the core feelings I'm really sensitive to in game is speed. It's why I didn't get along with fallout 3 and beyond, despite how awesome they are, all the walking / the pace of that just makes me twitch.

A musician I watch on YT actually was making fun of turn based games because your team just stands there bobbing up and down, and if you leave and make a sandwich on your turn, nothing will happen - everything will just wait 🙂

1. What Billet Labs knew

3. What LMG knew.

A lot of what Steve was right, I don't watch LTT videos of performance reviews because I've noticed some stuff wasn't right and I didn't think they went as in-depth as I think they should do with reviews, always felt the videos were more rushed by machine gunning benchmark slides through at speed.

The point is, Steve made mistakes, even if a lot of what he said was right. If you are going to call someone out on stuff, make sure your own nose is clean first.

If you can ring up Linus at 4am to tell him his channel has been hijacked, you could ring him up at a reasonable time to clarify on some things. I think this would have been an awesome collab video between them both.

I enjoy Monopoly; my parents gifted me a really nice set when I was a kid that I still have (wooden hotels/houses :P).

I never grew up with Catan but played "catan for kids" with my nephew over the summer that was pretty fun.

And yeah board games are pretty popular - (few dedicated stores around here that sell them along with magic cards / other CCG's / etc). My sister/her family have a whole shelf of them.

But I'd agree they're not as mainstream as say video games.

I think part of that is they require friends (burn) to play. Or room mates / family that want to play.

It was gutter journalism. I just finished watching Steve’s first attempt at explaining GN’s ethics and policies, including the whole weird section of “Contact/No Contact/Mix” case studies, and came away thinking that the case LMG had to answer was clearly a “Mix” situation.

Steve/GN would have faced a lot less backlash had he/they contacted LMG only about the Billet Labs fiasco, without disclosing they’d also be going after LMG’s data inaccuracy and potential conflicts of interest. Linus’s forum post was a bad initial response, but he was right to call out Steve for not reaching out for comment on Billet Labs.

Dr. Ian does a great job of breaking down what exactly it is that Steve is doing wrong journalistically (intentional or not). I've been exposed to enough good journalism that I could feel that Steve's coverage was off journalistically, especially in that 2nd video (which should also get pulled if he was being fair) and I could name a few of the things that Dr. Ian covers, but the depth he goes into on the rest should be the standard for evaluating any content that is claiming any level of "journalistic integrity". For me his video is the gold standard on this issue.

At one point you could actually make a decent living making solo content.

Now you have to be a powerhouse to be able to produce decent stuff and keep up with the algorithm.

No-one can truly predict how the algo will serve new content or different channels to individuals, but I think it was Cuttress who pointed out that you don’t need to “keep up” with the algo with daily uploads like LTT was putting out. Headphones have major battery issues, sometimes mine lasts 15 min while the other lasts a little over an hour. Tried some of the troubleshooting but no resolve yet. Since this is being brought up again. My original thoughts on this:
I'm glad that Linus was finally pushed by the community, and Luke, to offer a written warranty on the backpack. Which was then added to the screwdriver after when it was released. Although I don't think Linus was originally going to offer one for the screwdriver as well. Linus would always say when he thought they were big enough, "we're a real company", paraphrasing what the character Pinocchio said "I'm a real boy". And would chastise other companies when they didn't do things right. He thought that internal company policy of make it right would be enough. But Linus's initial response was just horrible before he finally relented to have a written warranty. And when he did relent, he tried to spin it without offering an apology for his previous behavior. It was some months after that he finally apologized for it all. Now his points of companies offering warranties on products they sell that should have them, could still deny them. But then at least you can go to court about it. Ok, I would like some community feedback here.

If someone used to work for company X (or channel X) at the time an episode of WAN was streamed, but then features in another episode at a later date working for company/channel Y, would you prefer it if they were displayed as channel X or channel Y?

Eg: Wendell used to work at tek syndicate, and was in an episode of WAN whilst at the channel, but now works for Level1Techs, and has featured in an episode whilst there too

so, does Wendell's card get shown as "Level1Techs" or "Tek Syndicate", or do I create a second cast entry and display it as both depending on the episode?

I mean. Personally. I'd take to just audio. Or 360p I know that can leave out important bits to see sometimes. But it conveys enough information while saving a ton of space.
It's a matter of, how much space is this content worth, especially if that content grows with time. Is wan show worth a terabyte+, and more as time passes?

oh this isnt just video

this is video, audio, transcripts (some of them in the several megabytes each), thumbnails, and timestamp files too

this is basically a full media backup for the project in case something goes terribly wrong and I need to quickly reset everything and get all the project rebuilt

the audio alone for the show is clocking in at almost 50GB so far

the transcripts are clocking in at 1.3GB

I catalogue my favorite weekly podcast. With hundreds of episodes and most 4+ hours long. And all related media as well.
I've just learned to stick with the audio for the most of it,even if it loses some visual gags.
And my portable archive of it is 135 gigs. If it were all video, it would easily be a terabyte plus.

But that 135gb includes a show spun off, comics, other media made by them. The main podcast files are 80gb of audio.

Im not just archiving this for me, Im also archiving it so that in future if a file is "corrupted" by youtube's magic, I can upload it to my CDN and deliver an uncorrupted copy via the archive, instead of using YouTube's player, the backup is built on Cloudflare's Stream tech

In an ideal world, I'd be speaking to Dan or luke about adding the CDN as an additional live endpoint in their multicast so that I can just record it directly and have a known good copy, but that is asking for a needle in a haystack

Just too much for me lol. I get there's some value inall the wan shows. I'm a data hoarder. But I'm just not sure they're worth terabytes of storage.

so I did some maths, and if I were to host a backup of every WAN episode ever published as a VOD using Cloudflare's Stream service, it would cost me $300/month before anyone actually watched any of that content
