That is fair that the rep in charge of that response didn't do a good job. The way I view the situation, there is a small issue and the companies are clumsily responding, not prepared for the disproportional backlash to everything. Steve reporting on the facts is fine, but the issue is how he characterizes everything. No, I don't believe that Asus was malicious or any individual was a "scumbag" as he describes. No-one is trying to screw consumers over here. They likely have 1 or 2 people who are assigned to working on a BIOs update and haven't gotten it down to Steve's expectations in the current beta.

Same with the backpack situation, there was nothing wrong with the facts that Steve reported. I agreed with him. However, the way he was characterizing Linus was very unfair.

here's my standpoint Hathos, I'm a small custom PC business who used to use ASUS mobo's for their ease of install and decent features, But I don't want to even think about eating the cost of a $200+ my cost part as that means that I'm not making money on my pc. I don't want to even deal with customers who know just enough about the situation contacting me about every little situation that could happen. I, as of now, will not be using ASUS products until this is resolved.

The set of teams behind what asus is doing is negligence at minimum as they're shifting the result of failure onto the customer. social media made a false statement (team 1), Bios version notes and cpu support lists got changed (team 2) and let's not forget that the media contact team is backing the entire situation up. The teams aren't the ones at fault, however. It's asus management who is.

Anyone presenting the beta bios as a solution was at fault, whether a marketing or support rep from Asus.

I think we should be able to have like... a special place where there nothing but ads, to "bank in" some sort of balance in your account. Then you can watch your contents free from ads until your balance depleted to 0 then ads kicks within the videos again.

I pay as much attention on ads as if I were able to run it in the background as it were shoved into my face in the middle of the video.

So what is the takeaway for Youtube?- Youtube can still deliver the ads, and watchers can still ignore them and use them as background noise.

GOG being drm free doesn't stop a good number of developers, many indie devs even, from putting their games on there. even though that theoretically the games are much easier to pirate. But steams DRM is easily bypassed regardless. So I could pirate a game exclusive to steam fairly easily. But if I were to actually pay for it through steam, then I wouldn't be able to play it

Not necessarily. Remember according to his first video, the slashes aren't real but rather Unicode characters that look exactly like slashes.

So an existing url with slashes would presumably lead you to the right place even if it ends with .zip

But you could use it to still fool people regardless. But I don't believe it should change existing urls

What's wild is I already have seen urls using @ somewhere in them. So even if a url has it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad url

Given these urls also dealt with real slashes

And that's why your GitHub example should be safe standalone. But someone could make a link that looks exactly like it but with Unicode characters instead of slashes to fool people.

Ya,, that again is a problem with URLs and how they're read. Homograph characters should be treated identically. (He made a video a while back about using other characters that are homographic to ones we know to do other bad stuff, so again, this problem exists independent of the .zip domain

Because being real, the .zip problem is a very big issue, and the character issue just makes it a bit worse. It still converts previous text discussing zip files into links, and can still be used fairly maliciously. It shouldn't be accepted as a domain. Fixing the characters would take a lot more work on a lot more people, all web browsers, operating systems (let alone that in updated systems won't see the fix).
Not using the .zip domain is simple when it should've never been a thing in the first place.

Given that nobody would want to use it now regardless given that it's being blocked the world over already by IT teams.

It would make no sense for anyone with legitimate activities and any tech knowledge to want to use it. It's effectively a useless domain to use, if not malicious.
