(i havent watched the video, this is coming from a Canadian who frequently uses both)
Imperial is great if youre measuring something. inches are an intuitive measurement for small things, feet for medium things, yards for large things, and pounds for weight. For me it's very easy to guess how long something is in inches just by looking at it. If you're staying in that realm, it's fantastic and i'll use imperial for fabrication purposes any day.

but God help you if you have to convert units. may He have mercy on your soul if you try to calculate anything with imperial measurements. for engineering or scientific work, metric just clicks together like lego compared to imperial, which is like trying to duct tape rocks together. from looking at old rocket propulsion handbooks and their imperial only formulas, it's frustrating. youre constantly asking yourself if that weird constant is a conversion factor, or the nature of the system. who knows!

As an American and op of this topic, I too use both at work. Imperial Units are still very commonly divided into 10ths in machining to make calculations easier and more user friendly eg. 1.2500" (which adds metrics calculation ease to imperial). this isn't too common in rulers or other sight only measuring devices. Digital Calipers commonly can switch between Imperial decimal, imperial fraction, and metric. It really can depend on the industry which is used, In the aerospace world I used to work in we used Imperial Decimal down to about the Thousanth (.001"), yet my current job when i got it in a custom cabinetry and marketing shop, uses Imperial fraction (like your common man). Yet after about a year working here, we bought a new cnc that ran on metric.

Converting units is easy outside of fractions adding an extra division step. As long as your measurement is expressed in decimal, you just multiply/divide by 25.4 (1" = 25.4mm) its funny to me cuz sometimes when i hear linus or the others talking about a measurement i rough convert it in my head before it shows on screen. Easy mental math rough conversion is 100mm~4".

The simplest way? Don't use companies that datamine you.
The only other way is to containerize everything, not shop online, not talk in any chat apps, use a VPN changing your location for each service, have a different email for each service, use a different device for each service

Basically make sure nothing is similar between two services
