Maybe. The Eufy team, last I heard, is extremely small. That could give them more agility to quickly throw together some improvements, or it could limit them, especially if they don't have the right expertise already at the company. If they had the right talent, this probably wouldn't have happened in the first place, or it wouldn't have been so bad. I'm guessing nobody on the team really understands how to quickly fix this or implement a secure system at all. Time to hire some specialized engineers!

This should have been flagged in the original design review... if such a thing even took place.

Interesting. I interned for them back in like, 2017. The description of those prototypes matches up pretty well to what I remember, although I remember the labels being yellow (I don't think that's an important detail). I won't go into detail (for NDA reasons) but Roombas that have been modified to be development versions easy to spot, even without a label.

Doesn't justify this careless handling of such... personal photos. At the very least they should have blotted out the faces before crowd sourcing like that.
It's especially awkward since the people who participate in that program are usually employees or close family and friends of employees.

US gov via NSA has been milking our data and deprived us of any privacy in the name of national security (a system that is infamously abused) like Santa clause before Christmas. Here's a virsual.

As a result we've become desensitized... And now demands to restrict those same data to others... as if it matter to a zoomer which entity has access.

Games have had a rotten rap since almost the beginning. Pacman and Super Mario Bros were considered Violent at the time. Games will continue to be the scape goat for a problem no one wants to solve.

At the same time, it's kind of horrifying that the majority of Blizzard's development team is R&D as opposed to actual game development. They have more psychologists on staff that observe user patterns to communicate to the smaller development team on the various ways that addiction to their games can be increased.

Portraying games as the end of civilization is certainly wrong, but portraying them as not harmful at all is also not correct...I believe that it boils down to the parenting, but you can't really control how parents parent. You can control what addictive/dangerous substances they can be exposed to.

I don't necessarily think it needs legislation around it, although it did come to mind as one of the most addictive examples of bright colours and money, that does have addiction related legal happenings around it. Regardless of what outcome it leads to, it'll be interesting I think since it'll be a spicy precedent either way.

Neither does WoW, and yet people still go to legitimate psychiatrists and counselors to figure out why they cannot stop playing a game for 20 hours a day, every day...again, not saying it's ALL the game's fault, but it is designed a specific way to hit a specific group of people.

If you've ever seen r/nowow, it's full of broken, pained people, and I definitely don't attribute all of the blame to them, their lives, their friends, and their family. Some of it, yes, but Blizzard knew exactly what they were doing.

Parents are responsible for monitoring what their kids are doing. Just because some parents let their kids use the unrestricted internet doesn’t mean we should ban the internet. Anything that provides dopamine at a low or minimal cost is potentially addictive.

Hence, my argument for identifying specific dangerous games/applications/people and having the government take on the burden of protecting those who can't handle it. Whether that's the TikTok blackout challenge/milk crate challenge, loot boxes and gambling mechanics, or specific YouTubers that are culturally offensive or harmful, legal action probably wouldn't hurt anything.

Their games certainly are designed to provide as much dopamine as possible, that’s their job. It’s a grey area imo of who is at fault, the game designers are just trying to make their game as enjoyable as possible.

Talking to some of the older devs that left Blizzard throughout the last few years, even that's questionable though. The devs want the game to be fun, but the publishers want the game to make money. They specifically took mechanics from the game that allowed you to make lots of progress in a single weekend evening playing for 8 hours and intentionally spread it across time gated daily requirements, forcing you to play 2 hours every day. This was not the developers "fun loving" choice, this was the psychology team communicating to the publishers that having players do something every day is habit forming, which leads to longer term subscriptions.
